AN: Hey guys! Happy New Year! This chapter is where things are picking up, and at this point, this story will be deviating from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This will slowly start to shift to Captain America: Civil War, just a bit. I'm not really at a loss, but at the same time I am, but I did have this idea for a while. If this goes the way I plan for this to go, this will also lead into Infinity War sometime down the line, but not very extensively where the Avengers will be mentioned or have a major role. Just the effects on Bella and Bucky.
I know that Civil War takes place two years after this, with Age of Ultron in between, but I'm condensing the timeline. It will be 6 months in between.
Also, to those who follow my Foreign story, I finally saw Venom 2 and will be continuing that as well. I need to do some recon on some of my stories, either re-start them or decide if I am going to try and pick them up. I'll let you guys know.
What stories would you guys like to see finished or even revised? That would give me a start. Neutral Zone is still in the works, I already have a chapter semi-finished, as well as The Rabbit Hole, still working on that one.
The day had finally come. Fury had called it time. It was time to move in on Pierce. Steve had gathered everyone to debrief, including Bella, even though she had no intention of fighting. As much as Bucky had trained her, she didn't want to compromise the mission. She and Bucky knew that should things go South, having the knowledge of her existence, and what she could do, was not a very good idea.
Bella would stay behind at base with Maria, covering everything from the Homefront in terms of making sure that this place would become non-existent including everyone in it. Steve was standing at the head of the table with Fury as he gave everyone their orders. "We stay off comms. Sam and Bucky will work on disabling the heli-carriers, implanting the chips, while Natasha and I wok our way through agents and get to Pierce before he can start the project. Stopping him from setting the heli-carriers off are the most important, and we will have HYDRA and STIRKE agents coming at us from every angle. As of today, we will have enemies from all sides," Steve didn't bother with looking at Bucky and Bella as they were one of the most wanted people in the world. They were at the center of the death of two retired CIA members. The government wanted them bad.
"With that being said, we go our separate ways after this. Bella and Maria will clean up here, and we act like we don't know each other. Clear enough?" There were silent nods and Fury nodded. "Which one is the one that shot that missile in Sam's apartment?" Bucky asks, his face darkening for just a moment. "Brock Rumlow," Fury answers, raising a brow.
"He's mine," Everyone looked around the table, nodding to each other. "We leave out in 10," Bella waited for Bucky, taking a good look at him, memorizing him in this moment. As everyone cleared out, she held out her hand, and he took it, stepping close to her. "Be careful," She whispers, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I will. When this is done, we should get that house you were talking about…" He caresses her cheek, smiling softly at her.
Her eyes gleamed in surprise and then adoration. They both knew that they were it for one another. She saved him from never ending torture, giving him an opportunity to fight for his life. He saved her from himself. From death that stalked the night. Bella was about to say something but is interrupted by Fury. "Ms. Swan, may I have a word?" Bella looks over Bucky's shoulder, nodding. She places a kiss on is cheek and walks around to follow Fury.
"Yes sir?" They walk down a series of corridors, and Fury leads her to a room where there was a large television that showed her another live feed of her family. "As you already know, this place will not exist, and not even one of us will be returning here. You and Maria will leave on a jet. I have given you a new set of identities, new passport, new name, new life. You will need these things in order to save your family. There is a property in a remote part of Florida, where you can do whatever you please. SHIELD will no longer be available to you, or anyone else. It has been compromised,"
He hands her a manilla folder, and she takes it, seeing exactly what her said was in it. Her name was Bethany Johnson, 27. She had black hair, thank God, and green eyes. She was an upcoming painter, sold her own few pieces of artwork, and lived alone.
That last bit caught her attention, and she realized that Bucky didn't have one. "Where's…" She starts, but Fury just gazes at her as she looks up to meet his eye. "He can't be hidden. You are not a part of my team, and I cannot tell you what to do, but I am giving you a chance to save your family. You will have access to weapons that SHIELD had been working on to destroy Cold One's. You can kill them. You must understand what is going to happen. Those people, including myself will be seen as enemies and threats to the United States of America. You as well. You are wanted for the death of CIA agents. You will most likely be put in the RAFT. Also, HYRDA will not stop. They will do what they can to eliminate the threat. Right now, that threat is you. Barnes. The decision is yours,"
Of course it was.
After Fury bids her good luck, Bella races down the corridor to find Bucky before he leaves. She finds him in their room, grabbing his duffle. "Bucky?" Bella calls out to him, and he turns to her, his face emotionless. His eyes soften as they land on her. He opens his mouth to say something, but she's rushing to him, and he barely manages to catch her. She crashes her lips to his passionately, holding her arms around his neck. "I love you. So much," She murmurs against his lips as they part ways to breathe.
He's looking at her now, brow furrowing. "Fury set me up with a passport, everything. Somewhere in Florida. I wanted you to know, so that…." She knew 10 minutes were up when she heard someone step into the room. "I'll find you," He promises, bending to kiss her lips for what he didn't know would be the last time in a long while.
With that, he's grabbing his bag, his hand passing along hers in passing. Steve spares her a glance, and she sighs. "Take care of him," She whispers. Steve nods, before disappearing. Bella bites her lip, sending a silent prayer.
When Bella stepped off the jet with her things, she was met with a small cabin. It was small, simple, obscure, and in the middle of fucking nowhere. She looked back at Maria, who just nodded at her. "Good luck," With that, the jet door closes, her hair flying wildly as the jet took off. She sighs, and looks around, seeing as she was completely alone and surrounded by nothing.
After exploring the grounds, she finally stepped foot into the house. It was equipped with a small kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, and a small room that held equipment purely for intel purposes. The first thing she did was turn it on. Fury wasn't kidding. Everything Bella needed to catch these sons of bitches, was right at her fingertips. While Bucky was helping save the world from super agents and government infiltrators, Bella could save the world from unknown threats like these, starting with Edward fucking Cullen.
He was the bane of her existence now. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't be here, granted she'd have never met Bucky, but she was on the run because of him. He was stalking her family. He was stalking her. She knew it. He was haunting her dreams. He was the reason she had to be here, looking out for him. For them.
So she went to work. The system built into the cabin had the word STARK etched on the side. She wondered if that would be a problem but would use said hero's tech. Bella had access to everything she wanted to know about the Cullen's. Fury had provided her access with only a short amount of database to work with, but it was enough. It gave her something to do, to keep her mind from the fight that was probably taking place.
As she kept an eye on her family at night, she used the day to make this place her home. She made a note of what she needed. The fridge was stocked for at least a month, and she had enough clothes to supply her for a week. She moved the furniture around to her liking, kept an ear out for her surroundings. There was a flat screen television that worked, and it had access to the news.
She kept it on, listening for the moment things would go to shit. She had faith that Captain America would do what was right, even if the world thought wrong. She also knew that Bucky would do the same. If she didn't even know where she was or how to contact him, she didn't know how he planned to find her. As far as she knew, Bella Swan didn't exist anymore.
Yes, she had become curious as to what would happen if she looked herself up in that database Fury had set up for her. She found nothing. She looked up Bucky and found his whole life story up until the point where he was 'MIA'. No one had connected that he was the long-lost soldier that Captain America fought with during the war. Well, no one outside of HYDRA and the team that Steve recruited.
That was a good thing. Maybe the outcome wouldn't be so bad.
She had to keep hope however.
She found that a landline was all she had as a mode of communication, and on the inside of the cradle, the was a sticker with a number attached. On it was a small note: This is the only number you are able to contact. Burn me. Bella did as instructed after memorizing the number. She dialed the number, and it rang twice before a voice answered. One she didn't recognize. "What do you need?" It asked, and Bella's brows furrowed. "What?" She questions.
The voice simply repeated the question. "You have 10 seconds, or we will terminate contact. What. Do. You. Need." Bella swallows. "Transportation," She replies. The line is silent for the moment. "There will be a truck dropped off in the morning. Please do not call again until 48 hours. We will not speak again. In the truck you will find money, first aid, and a present from…l" The line goes dead, and Bella can her beeping on the other end. "Please hang up or this will self-destruct in 3…2…" Bella hurriedly places the cradle back on the hook.
For the first night in a long while, Bella slept alone.
Like promised, a truck was waiting. With her…present, which just so happened to be a dog. Bella was wary at first, but the dog hopped out of the bed of the truck, happily wagging its tail, tongue rolled out and panting. Bella squatted down to the dog's level and saw a collar. The symbol was one she had seen at the underground base. The dog sniffed at her, and Bella just smiled. At least she had company.
"Do you have a name?" She asks softly, and the dog tilts its head confused. It was then that Bella catches the slip of something in the collar. It was a piece of paper.
This is Hank. He is yours. Burn this.
Bella meets the dogs big, brown eyes. "Hank," She murmurs, and the dog starts to happily pant again. Bella pets it's furry head. It was a German Shepherd. It was very big, bigger than she thought they were, but he was sweet. With Hank came the basic necessities to have and own a dog. First aid like the man on the phone said, a map, and a black credit card with her name on it. There was also a collar for Hank, one with a note that said to destroy the other one. Bella did as the instructions told, and Hank followed her inside, sniffing around.
She got Hank set up with his food and water bowls as well as a doggy bed. She then went to look at all the weapons that Fury and Maria had supplied her with. It wasn't a full arsenal, but she recognized a few that Bucky had taught her. She went about loading them up, gathering a feel of them. The ones she knew how to use, she stashed them at different places of the cabin. One under her bed, well she rigged that one, something she learned from Charlie. It was on the right side of the bed so that she could grab it if need be. She also slipped a 9mm under her pillow.
She hid most smaller weapons behind the pillows of the couch, kept bigger ones behind doors, windowsills, and most of the knives she had were kept with her. She even found that with that room came with motion trackers, but sadly no cameras. It gave her a satellite image of doorways and windows. Despite that, she still decided to set her own traps, specifically the one Bucky used. She had them placed at the front and back door. Afraid that Hawk would hurt himself, she tentatively led him to them, and he just sniffed, hopping over it. She grinned. "Good boy," He licks her hand, and brushes against her. She found that he was very smart and was very observant.
Once she felt like she had the place secure, she cooked her a meal and sat on the couch in front of the tv, flipping between channels.
On her third day, Bella saw the news she had been waiting for. There was Natasha Romanoff on the tv, speaking with the Senate subcommittee. Fury was in the wind, as was Bucky. Steve and Sam were on damage control. As she was watching, she pauses as her name is mentioned.
There is one person you didn't mention Agent. Isabella Swan. She is responsible for the murder of two retired CIAs. Where is she in all this? She was spotted a few months ago on multiple traffic cameras traveling with this…Winter Soldier as you call him. How can you be sure she isn't a threat?
Bella waits with bated breath as Natasha's face held nothing. "Sir, I have no idea who you are talking about, however, if I did and this Isabella Swan did exist, she was just collateral damage in all this. An innocent woman, a victim of Pierce," Bella holds her breath as the camera is panned back to the man she didn't care to know. He looks straight into the camera, and Bella shivers. "Nobody is innocent Agent Romanoff. She will be found,"
Bella cuts off the television. Hawk whines and rubs against her. "Yeah I know," She murmurs, fingers going through his fur.
Washington D.C.
"Do you know where she is?" Steve murmurs to Natasha. She shakes her head, watching the people from across the street. "Do you know where he is?" She questions, and Steve shakes his head. "They could be together," She murmurs. Steve shakes his head. "No. Not yet. I know Bucky. It's too dangerous. He'll find her like he said. I'm assuming Fury had something to do with why she was so well hidden," Natasha just hums.
"What now?" She asks, looking up at him. "Stark wants us to go to Sokovia, that scepter Loki had is being used on humans for experimental purposes. We handle this like we handle anything else,"
1 Month Later
On top a hill, Bella looks through a scope, one eye closed as she follows the target with precise movement. His sickly pale complexion made her skin crawl, and as she's about to pull the trigger, he faces her, eyes narrowed. Bella holds her breath as they make eye contact. He couldn't see her….could he?
He suddenly shakes his head as if to clear it before getting into a silver Volvo. His car is now obscured by traveling people in cars. "Dammit," She murmurs. Edward was the hardest to track. She had found him in Miami, strange as that was, with a small woman. She hadn't a clue why they were there. She did know however that her mother wasn't far away from Miami. Just a good 45 minutes at best.
She tried to track his car, but he disappeared out of sight from traffic cameras.
She grabs her MK22, packing it up, the wind blowing through her hair.
Bucky knew now wasn't the time. For starters, he didn't know where to start. Where to look in Florida. Her mother would be the safest bet, but then again, he knew she wouldn't put her mother in jeopardy.
As much as he hated it, he had to wait it out. He had too many people at his back, and he'd be damned if he led them straight to her. He looks at the news as even a month later, they were still wanted fugitives. They believed she held a larger part than she actually did. One of the HYDRA agents had captured footage of her fighting and then him joining back in Oregon. They were fluid, and he was proud to admit that she moved almost as well as he did.
Two Months Later
The windows were down, Hawk in the passenger seat with his head out the window. The truck she's in flies down the country road, as she takes a much-needed drive to catch some air. The situation was now hitting her. She was alone, no Bucky, no secret agents, not even killers. She was going kind of stir crazy at the cabin, and she had to get some air.
Hawk was happy to be out and about, as wandering the yard became boring. She heard that the Avengers had taken down some robot or another, and as great as that was, the government was getting involved.
The Sokovia accords.
She hadn't been paying much attention, but she gathered that the higher ups wanted to call the shots. Private organizations like S.H.I.E.L.D and The Avengers were no longer able to work independently. Bella didn't really have much of a say, but as a citizen in a world where things just happen, she'd rather know that the people were given interest before decisions were made on who were in need of saving more or which high threats were being monitored. As she drove, she absentmindedly rubbed at her chest. She could feel as though a piece of herself was missing.
She had made the conclusion that Bucky wouldn't risk putting her in danger. So, once she got rid of these vampires, she would find him. They were in this together. Even while apart.
AN: I'm thinking it's best to keep these roughly at around 3K-4K words. It's easier for me without putting too much where I feel I can't go anymore as well as keeping a nice pace.
I can also write out two of these at once and upload lol
How would you guys feel if I created an OC for Twilight? Instead of the usual characters, or even the crossover characters, create my own, but keep Bella?
See ya! Oh, chapter 10 is in the works now, and I might have it uploaded by tonight
