Chapter 5

Detective Campbell could tell that his next words would either calm Sally or make her worse. He had to be careful with what he said.

"Miss Fields we will do everything we can to find your daughter. There are no suspects at the moment, as it seems like there is no one who would want to hurt either of yourselves or your children. You seem like a normal working couple trying to raise their children and enjoy life. We need to wait until the results come back from the CSI teams and footage from the area. Once we have that and have interviewed the people on your lists then we will have a suspect list."

Sally knew this was true. She didn't even have a suspect in her own mind of who could have done this but it was just another blow to be told that they had no suspects of who took Sarah.

"So what happens now?" She asked as she placed her hand on top of Frank's under the table. He took her hand in response.

"Right now all our teams are working on this case. We are processing the crime scene and the surrounding area. Tomorrow we will have a clearer picture of what happened. Whilst the CSI's are doing this, we will be speaking to everyone on this list to get as much information as possible. In the meantime, you both need to go home and get some rest. This is not going to be an easy process but we will find her. Go home, spend some time with your son, get some rest and then when your ready try and get in touch with people on the lists to inform them that we'll be calling them. Tomorrow we'll inform you of any updates we get in the case. Also do either of you have a picture of your daughter?" Detective Campbell asked them.

Sally had her bag but she didn't have a picture of the twins in yet. She had been meaning to do it as she had recently got a new purse but she kept forgetting to put a picture of the kids back in it. She was about to tell the detective this but Frank let go of her hand and reached into his pocket for his wallet. He took his wallet out of his jacket pocket, opened it and handed a photo of the twins to the officers.

"Please be advised Mr Mooney has handed me a photo of the missing child and her brother." Detective Campbell said as he took the photo from Frank.

"What's the photo for?" Sally asked.

"If we have no leads by tomorrow will alert the local papers and need a picture of your daughter to show what she looks like. I wanted to do it tonight but its policy to wait 24 hours minimum before publishing a news article. What I'm going to do in the meantime is place the photo in every hospital and doctors office in the city."

"Hospital? Do you think someone would harm her?" Sally asked as she took Frank's hand again.

"Not at all Miss Fields but I believe your son is very upset and fussy just now. As a father myself to twins, I know that they can sense when the other one is upset. If your son is upset and fussy, your daughter may be as well and the kidnapper may take her to a medical facility if they are unable to soothe her. It's a long shot but it might just work." Detective Campbell said.

"Yeah that's a good idea." Frank said as squeezed Sally's hand.

"It's a long shot but I want to try it." Detective Campbell replied to them and then he turned back and looked at his notebook. "Now are there any more questions at all?" He asked them again.

"No." Frank said first.

"No." Sally said back.

"Ok. We're done for tonight. Go home and get some rest and we'll in touch tomorrow. Interviewing completed at 7pm, 10th October 2003." Detective Campbell said out loud and then pressed a button on the stereo to stop the recording.

All four them of them got up off of their seats and Detective Campbell shook both of their hands, followed by P.C Grant doing the same. Once done, PC Grant opened the door for Frank and Sally to leave and they left the room and headed for the main door to go home. Once they left the station, Sally stopped and started looking in her bag for her emergency cigarettes, hoping a smoke would help calm her down. She found her lighter but as she kept looking, she realised that all her smokes were gone and she had smoked the last one a couple of days ago. She had meant to stop and get more yesterday while she was out for a walk with the twins but the twins had started to fuss and needed their lunch, so she went straight home instead.

"You need a cig?" Frank asked her as he held up his own packet to her so she could take one. He knew that she would need one after the interview and by the way she was searching in her bag, he knew that she didn't have any left.

"Cheers." Sally replied as she smiled at him and took a cig from the packet. As she took one, she seen that he didn't have many left himself and was about to put hers back but she needed a smoke and he wouldn't have offered her one if he was worried about running out of cigs for himself.

It took a minute for Sally to light her cig as her hands were shaking with how close to tears she was and how anxious she was feeling but eventually she got it lit. As she took a long draw of her cig, she felt part of her anxiousness slip away and let the smoke fill her lungs. Today had completely broken her. The anxiety, worry and panic of finding out her baby girl was kidnapped combined with the pain of seeing her baby boy so upset was enough to break anyone. Sally didn't know anyone that would want to cause her pain. If she didn't like someone, she didn't spend time with them, unless she had to and she hadn't done anything bad to anyone. She trusted Andie and Elaine with her kids and knew neither of them were responsible. She hoped the police would come back in the morning with either a suspect or something that could lead them to a suspect and get them closer to Sarah. That was tomorrow though and they still had tonight to get through. With the way James was earlier, Sally knew it was going to be a long night but she had Frank. The day she told him she had kept the baby, he had promised he would support her no matter what and he had never broken that promise. Throughout her entire pregnancy and since the second the twins were born he was a devoted dad to them and a loyal partner to her but right now she needed him more than ever to help her. She knew she lashed out when she was upset and angry but didn't always mean it the way it came out. Frank would want to calm her down but so far had kept quiet knowing that she might lash out. Sally was grateful he was being quiet but knew he was there for her and would show him when she was ready to talk or be comforted.

Frank had taken a cig out for himself, lit it and stood next to Sally as they both smoked. There was so much he wanted to say to her to reassure her that they would find Sarah but he knew that she was upset just now. The wrong word or the way it was said could make her lash out at him and the last thing they needed was to argue just now. They had to be strong together to comfort James as well as each other and stay positive that they would find Sarah. He hoped Sally knew he was there for her but he wanted her to make the move to tell him it was ok and she wouldn't lash out. He could see in her eyes just how much this was taking its toll on her but she wouldn't admit it just now but at some point she would break down and he would be there when she was ready. Frank couldn't think of anyone who would want to Sarah or him either. He had distanced himself from Jimmy's world along time ago and no one had bothered him since but if it was Jimmy, why not go after Frank instead of taking his daughter? Sarah was the apple of Frank's eye. Since the day she was born, she had captured his heart and he would never get it back. She could light up a room with her big gummy smile and big blue eyes but every time she smiled at him or reached her arms out to him, his heart skipped a beat. He loved his son more than anything as well but Sarah was daddy's little girl. If Jimmy had done this to draw Frank back into his world, he would get his revenge and get even.

After a few more moments of silence, they both finished their cigs and stomped out the buds on the ground.

"Do you need to stop for more cigs?" Sally asked him as she stomped out her cig.

"No. I'll be alright till tomorrow." Frank replied as he blew out the last of the smoke in his mouth.

It was only part true. He had just enough cigs to last him but he wanted to wait until tomorrow as he had his own enquiries to make as to where Sarah was. He just didn't know if he should tell Sally or not.

"Alright." Sally said she took a deep breath to fight back the tears. "Lets see if Andie's managed to settle James and get him ready for bed." As she spoke she let her hand reach out slightly to him, hoping he would take her hand.

"Yeah let's hope. That sobbing and fussing was horrible." Frank replied as he noticed her hand stretch out, which he gladly took with his own hand.

"Never seen him like that before." Sally said as they started walking back to the car.

"I know. He's normally so smiley and happy. If he's not settled soon, he'll get tired and fall asleep." Frank said as they approached the car.

"I hope so. For us as well." Sally replied as she let go of Frank's hand and walked round to the passenger side of the car.

They opened the car doors, got inside the car and put their seatbelts on. Frank started the engine and they set off for home with the only noise coming from the radio in the car. Sally was trying to prepare herself for all of the questions Andie would have for her about what happened at the police station. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate her concern but it meant reliving the past 2 hours and having to hold back more tears. Sally knew herself that she would breakdown eventually but she wanted to do it once James was settled and it just her and Frank. She just hoped Frank was ready for when it happened.

The twenty-minute drive home seemed to take forever but they soon arrived back at the flat. Luckily Frank was able to get the same spot as he did this morning and he parked up in front of the entrance door and switched the engine off.

They both got out of the car and Frank locked it once both the doors were closed. He walked around to the passenger side where Sally was standing. He could tell she would be getting ready to relive what they went through at the police station and knew it was bringing her closer to breaking point. He decided to rock the boat to see where Sally's limit was. Frank moved to slip his arm around her waist but Sally was too quick as she seen him coming and moved away from him.

"No. Not now Frank." She said as she turned away from him and slipped her key into the flat entrance. After a few turns the door open and they headed inside towards their flat.

As they walked up the stairs, Sally had done her best not to snap more at Frank than what she had. He had done so well at not saying or doing the wrong thing but now it was like he was forcing her to show emotion. She knew that he meant well but now wasn't the time. When James was asleep and they had done everything they needed to do, then she would talk to him but not now when there was still other things that had to be done.

They reached the landing on their floor of the building and walked around the corner to their flat but as they reached the door, they both let out a heavy sigh. When they got to the door, they could hear that James was still crying.

"It's gonna be long night." Sally said as she placed the key in the flat door.

"Yeah I know." Frank replied as he waited for Sally to open the door.

Sally quickly opened the door and they both went into the flat. Frank closed the door behind them and they both took their shoes off and hung up their jackets. Sally had her shoes and jacket off in record time and went to see how James was. As she walked into the living room and kitchen area she looked for around for Andie or James but couldn't see them. She could hear James crying but he sounded far away meaning Andie was either in the twin's room or the bathroom with James. She was about to go and follow the crying noise but George stood up from behind the kitchen table and jumped when he seen her.

"Geez Sal. Didn't even hear you's come in. You trying to give me a heart attack?" George said.

"Stop playing hide and seek then. What were you doing down there anyway?" Sally asked with a slight smile on her face at scaring George.

"James didn't want to eat his mashed banana or have his bottle. Instead he thought the floor might like it better than he would." George said as put the dishcloth back on the dry rack.

Sally's smile quickly dropped again. James always finished every drop of milk in his bottle and mashed banana was his favourite solid food. If Frank or Sally didn't feed him the banana fast enough or place the bottle in his mouth quickly, the little boy would wave his arms around frantically and make a strange noise to tell his mum or dad that they had to hurry up and feed him. It was another sign that James knew what was going on and was missing his other half.

"I'll try him with another bottle later. Where is he?" Sally asked as Frank walked up beside her.

"Andie went to give him his bath. There was banana all over his face and down his clothes. Poor lad." George said. As he spoke to Sally all he wanted to do was give her a hug but he could tell from her eyes that she was a mess. As if the girl hadn't ben through enough over the years, this now had to happen.

"I'll go see if she needs a hand." Sally replied as she walked towards the bathroom. As Sally moved away, she saw Frank moving to talk to George. Hopefully he would tell him what had happened at the police station so Sally didn't have to relive it.

Just as Sally approached the bathroom door, Andie opened the door and turned to switch the bathroom light off with James on her hip. He was just out of the bath and in his blue sleeping onesie. As she turned back around, Andie jumped slightly as she seen her.

"Hi Sal. Didn't even hear that you were back." Andie said as she closed the bathroom door. Once the door was closed, she turned her attention back to the sobbing baby on her hip. "Look who's back eh?" Andie cooed him.

James had already spotted his mum before Andie pointed her out. "mm mm." His little chubby arms reached out to his mum as he tried to say ma at the same time. They had been trying to get the kids to say mama and dada for a few weeks but so far James could only sound out the letter M and D.

"Come here you." Sally said as she reached out and took James from Andie's arms. As she moved him to her chest, James snuggled into his mum closely and placed his arms around her shoulders, still sobbing the whole time.

"Heard he didn't want his dinner or bottle." Sally said to Andie as she lightly rubbed James's back.

"No he just wore it instead. At least he's bathed and ready for bed." Andie said. As she looked at Sally, she wanted to know what had happened at the station but she also knew how hard it would be for Sally to tell her all the details again. As she looked up, she seen that Frank was deep in conversation with George and knew Frank was telling George what had happened.

"He didn't want cuddles from auntie Andie or uncle George. Only wants Mummy and Daddy. I'll let you get him settled." Andie said to Sally as she walked over to where the men where talking in the kitchen.

Sally didn't answer Andie. She was just focused on her baby boy and trying to calm him. He was still snuggled to her chest as she rubbed his back and swayed lightly on her feet. As she tried to soothe James, she could hear Frank telling George and Andie what happened at the police station. She felt so relieved at not having to go through the whole story again and make her mind start racing again for potential kidnappers.

After what felt like an eternity, James stopped sobbing. He was still whimpering and fussy but it was better than sobbing and crying. Sally carefully moved him to her hip so she could see his face.

"There's my boy. Where's that big smile?" Sally cooed to him as she wiped away the tears from his cheeks and tickled his cheek. Normally that would make James smile and laugh but today Sally got no reaction from him. Instead James swatted his mum's finger away from his face. She would give anything for James to smile at her. He was always a happy and smiley boy and every time he or Sarah smiled or laughed it melted Sally's heart. When James did cry it was never for long or even a loud cry, just a whimper. The little boy on her hip whimpering with a petted lip and fussing was truly not himself.

"Let's see if your daddy can get a smile out of you." Sally said as she turned around and walked to where the other three were. As much as she wanted to focus on James, it would be rude to ignore George and Andie and not thank them again.

Frank, Andie and George had moved into the living room and were sitting on the couches deep in conversation. As Sally walking into the room, George noticed her first. "Finally got him calmed down eh?" He asked her as Sally went to sit down on the blue couch.

"Just about. He's still upset but he'll settle on his own." Sally replied as she went to sit down next to Frank. Just as she sat down and was about to sit James on her lap, James let out a big cry and started sobbing again. Sally sighed and stood up again to settle him but as soon as she stood up and put James was back on her hip, he stopped crying and went back to his whimpering.

"Ok looks like I'm standing." Sally signed as James started fussing again.

"I'll take him Sal." Frank said as he stood up off the couch.

He moved over to Sally and reached his arms out to take James from Sally. James didn't protest when Frank took him from her arms and snuggled into his dads arms, still whimpering and fussing. Sally waited a few seconds just to be sure that James wouldn't cry again, which he didn't and she went and sat on the couch.

"Thanks again for watching him, even though he cried the whole time." Sally said to George and Andie as she sat down.

"Anytime Sal. Poor lad's just not right. Missing his sister and who knows what he heard or saw in the flat." Andie said as she gave Sally a slight smile. "It's not anything special but I made chicken salad for you both. The last thing you'll want to do tonight is cook."

"You're a life saver. Cooking is the last thing I wanna do tonight," Sally said with a hint of a smile and relief as another thing was taken off her list of things to do.

"Don't worry about the blue watch lads Sal." George said. "We'll call them and tell what happened. Give them a heads up about the coppers calling them tomorrow as well."

The help from her friends and the relief of not having to tell people over and over again that her daughter was missing almost pushed Sally to breaking point. For the first time she wasn't alone and having to deal with a difficult situation. She had great friends to help her.

"Thank you." Sally said as she fought back her tears.

"Anytime." Andie said and then she turned back to George. "We better be heading home now." Andie said as they both stood up off the couch.

"You don't need to leave now that we're home." Frank said as he readjusted James to his other hip as he continued to whimper and fuss.

"It's fine. You's have had a long day and it looks like you could be in for a long night with Mr Grumpy over here. We'll head and let you's get him settled." Andie replied as she tickled James's cheek. Again the little boy didn't laugh or smile but snuggled in closer to his dad.

"We'll walk you's out." Sally said as she got off the couch.

George walked over to Frank and James. He gave Frank a reassuring pat on the arm and rubbed James's hand. George followed Andie to the entrance room where the door was with Sally behind them and Frank following her.

"If you need anything or get any updates we're just a phone call away." George said as he opened the flat over while Andie grabbed her bag.

"We will mate." Frank replied to him.

"If there's any news on Elaine as well, let us know." Andie said as she went to leave with George.

Sally had forgotten about Elaine, as she had been more concerned as to where Sarah was. She was concerned about Elaine and hoped she was ok but she might still be unconscious. She would wait for Adam to call them with the updates as they had their own long night ahead of them.

"We will. See you later." Sally replied.

"Bye." Andie and George both shouted as they closed the door and headed back to their home.

Sally put the latch on door once it was closed. Once the door was locked, she turned around and followed Frank back into the living room. They both looked at James who looked as miserable as they felt.

"Come on mate, let's get you to bed." Frank said as he rubbed his son's back.

"Not yet. I want to see if he'll have a bottle first." Sally replied as she turned and walked into the kitchen.

"Sal, it's after 8. It's way past his bedtime and he probably hasn't slept this afternoon." Frank said as he wiped away a tear from James's cheek.

"I know that but who knows when he was last fed as well. The fuller his belly is, the longer he sleeps for as well." Sally replied as she was making a bottle for James.

Frank knew she was right as well but James hadn't taken his bottle from Andie and he may not take it from him or Sally either. It was worth a try but Frank didn't think he'd take it. He was missing his twin and he wouldn't be right until she was back with him. The sooner James was sleeping, the sooner he could get Sally to let her guard down as well. While Sally was making the bottle up, Frank decided to sit down on the couch again to see what would happen. Just as he sat down and adjusted James to sit on his lap, the little boy started to whimper louder and then turned into small cries.

Frank lay sat back against the couch so he wasn't sitting up straight and snuggled his son to his chest. "I know its hard son but we'll find your sister." Frank cooed to James.

James gave a few more sobs then returned to his whimpering as Frank kept rubbing his back.

Sally walked back into the living room and seemed surprised that Frank had managed to sit down and James wasn't crying.

"How did you manage that?" Sally asked as she sat down beside Frank.

"No idea but it worked." Frank replied.

"That's all that matters. Here." Sally said as she passed Frank a bottle of milk. "Let's see if he takes this."

"Cheers." Frank said as he took the bottle from Sally. He sat up slightly and adjusted James again so he was cradling him in his arms.

He moved the bottle to place it in son's mouth but James seen the bottle coming and squirmed out the way. Frank pulled the bottle back and let James stop squirming. He tried a few more times again but each time James had other plans and dodged the bottle. Frank and Sally let out a heavy sigh but Frank had a plan. He moved his hand with the bottle in it so the bottle was near James's face but he didn't try and put it in his mouth. When James fussed again and opened his mouth to make noises, Frank quickly placed the bottle in his son's mouth, without forcing it and titled the bottle up so a few drops of milk landed on James's tongue. Once the bottle was in, James looked like he was about to try and get the bottle out of his mouth but once he tasted the milk, he realised how hungry he was. He starting drinking from the bottle and relaxed his dad's arms, while both Frank and Sally let out a relieved sigh.

"Nicely done. See he was hungry." Sally said as she stroked the little tuffs of hair on James's head as the little boy greedily drank from his bottle.

"Thanks. Should he drink the whole thing if he wants to?" Frank asked.

"Yeah he can. I think if you tried to take the bottle away from him, he'd be more upset than before." Sally replied with a smile. Her little boy was finally quiet and he was doing one of his favourite activities. Eating.

Frank smiled back at her, happy to see James quiet and eating as well.

Within record time James had finished every drop of milk in the bottle and Frank removed it from his mouth. As he sat James up to burp him, the little boy looked drunk on milk but he was not fussing or whimpering. As Frank sat James up, Sally had grabbed one of the burping rags and placed it over her shoulder.

"Right let's get you burped and bedded." Sally said as she took James from Frank and placed him on her chest with his head over her shoulder to burp him.

"Thanks I was needing a leak." Frank said a smile as he got off the couch and headed for the bathroom.

Sally had to smile at his words. Even in their toughest situation he could still make her smile and she loved him for it. She started to softly rub James back to start with but no noise came out of him. She rubbed his back a little harder and James let out a massive burp.

"There you go." Sally said. She kept rubbing his back with the same pressure and James got all of the wind out of his little tummy.

After a few moments of patting his back and no more burps were coming out, Sally knew he was done. She checked that there was no sick on the rag, which there wasn't, tossed it on the arm of the couch and moved James to cuddle him to her chest. For as strong as Sally had been over the past few hours, the one thing she couldn't handle was putting James to bed and seeing Sarah's empty crib. Every time that she went into the twins room, she was always greeted by two babies but tonight there was only going to be one baby. It was another knife in the chest. Each crib should have held a sleeping baby right now but only one crib would be full tonight. It may bother Frank as well but he was stronger than her just now.

As she looked down at James, he still looked liked he was drunk on milk but it looked like he was going to start whimpering again. He was just tired now and needed to sleep.

"Mummy loves you so much but only daddy is putting you to bed tonight. Try and sleep and I'll see you in the morning" Sally cooed to him as she lifted him and kissed his chubby cheek.

"Mm Mm." James sounded in response.

"All settled?" Frank asked as he walked back in the living room.

"Just about. The sooner he sleeps the better." Sally replied. "Frank I can't face seeing that empty crib in there where Sarah should be. Can you take him to bed please?" She said as she looked up from James to face Frank.

Frank knew that Sally would struggle with seeing an empty crib in the twin's room but he didn't think it would bother her enough not to put James to bed. Unless they were on nightshift or out for the night, they always put the twins to sleep together. For Sally not to be able to put James to his bed it showed how much she was struggling.

"Course." Frank said as he bent down to Sally and took James from her. The effects of the milk were wearing off and James was starting to whimper again.

"Come on son. Let's get you to bed." Frank cooed to his son as he walked out of the living room and towards the twin's room with James in his arms.

Sally took a deep breath and pushed herself off the couch. She felt bad for not taking James to bed but she couldn't handle seeing Sarah's empty crib. It would be another knife to the chest. She headed to the kitchen to get the chicken salads out the fridge. She wasn't hungry but she knew she had to eat something to keep her energy up. She went to the fridge and took the salads out and placed them on the kitchen table. As she went to get cutlery she could hear James's whimpering getting louder and it sounded like he could cry again. Just as Sally placed the cutlery on the table, she heard Frank close the twin's bedroom door.

"He get upset when you put him down?" Sally asked as she sat down.

"Yeah but he'll settle down again soon." Frank said as he sat down as well.

Frank and Sally we're not the kind of parents who jumped to every cry that their kids made but let them self soothe first and it worked. If Sarah or James went to bed tired and cranky they did whimper or cry for a few moments but then they quickly fell asleep. They we're giving James extra attention tonight as he was so upset and unsettled but they knew after a few moments he would calm down and fall sleep.

"Hope so." Sally said as she took a mouthful of chicken salad.

As she ate she didn't feel hungry and was forcing it down her throat but she needed the energy so she kept eating. Frank ate his salad as well but unlike Sally he was starving and happily tucked into his dinner. They both ate in silence as they were both exhausted and both wanted to go to bed as well. The only noise that could be heard was James crying which was getting louder by the minute.

"That's been 20 minutes. He's got to fall asleep soon." Sally said as put her cutlery down on her empty plate.

"Yeah. I hate this. Just never seen him like this before." Frank said as he stood up and picked up his plate.

"If he hasn't stopped in 10 minutes, go through and see him will you," Sally asked as Frank walked up beside her.

"Sure." Frank replied as he collected Sally's plate and went to wash them.

As Frank was washing the plates, Sally grabbed a cloth and wiped the table as James's loud cries to continue to fill the flat. Just as Sally put down the cloth near the sink, James let out a big scream and she knew they couldn't wait any longer. Without saying anything Frank walked back into the kids room to check on their son. Sally heard him talking to James but he kept crying. Sally quickly wiped a tear away from her eye, at the screams of her of son. He had never made a noise like that before and it was heart breaking but if James was acting like his, was Sarah as well? At least James had his mummy and daddy to comfort him.

As she wiped the tear away, she looked up to see Frank coming out of the room with James in his arms who was crying his heart out. "Dd Dd" James cried as his dad held him.

"We're in for a long night Sal." Frank said as he bounced his son and rubbed his back but the little boy continued to cry.

For the next three hours Sally and Frank took it in turns to comfort James as he continued to whimper and fuss. Frank had tried multiple times to put him back in his crib when it seemed like he had stopped but each time James started crying again and fussing more. Both of them were exhausted and just wanted to sleep themselves but James had other ideas. The little boy was overtired and was missing his twin sister who he had never been apart from and did everything with. The good thing for Frank and Sally was that James was happy to be passed between his mum and dad instead of preferring one parent to the other, so it gave them a small break when they swapped.

It was now 11:30pm and Frank had had James for the last 30 minutes with the little boy still whimpering.

"Time to swap Sal." Frank said as he handed James to Sally who was sat next to him on the couch.

"Come on sweetie." Sally said as she took James and hugged him to her chest.

Sally rubbed his back for a few moments and James almost stopped his whimpering again. When this happened over the last 3 hours, this is when Frank would try and put him in his crib but it hadn't worked. As she kept rubbing his back, she had an idea that might work. When James was close to them that was when he stopped whimpering but when he wasn't with them he cried again. She carefully got up with James still snuggled to her chest and walked out of the living room.

"Where you going?" Frank asked as she stood up off the couch.

"I got an idea. Come to our room in 10 minutes." Sally told him as she walked to her and Frank's room.

"Ok." Frank replied as he yawned and stretching his arms above his head.

Sally walked into her and Frank's room and turned on the big main light and let her eyes adjust to the light. She then walked up to her side of the bed, bent across the bed and placed James in the middle of the bed. Once she placed him on the bed, he started to cry.

"Oi. Oi." Sally said to him as she lay down on the bed on her side so her head was beside James. "Mummy's right here, now settle down."

Once he saw that Sally wasn't going anywhere, he stopped crying and whimpering slightly instead. Sally gently tickled and stroked his chubby arm as this usually soothed him. Tonight was no except as when Sally did this, James stopped whimpering and fussing and lay still on the bed but didn't take his eyes of his mum. She continued to rub and tickle his arm and after a few moments James was struggling to keep his eyes open but he eventually gave up fighting and he finally fell asleep. Sally was so relieved she could have cried.

"Have I gone deaf?" Frank asked as he walked into their bedroom.

"No he's just asleep." Sally replied as she continued to rub and tickle James's arm to be sure he was asleep.

"Finally." Frank said as he walked over to his side of the bed and observed his sleeping son knowing he had to move him.

Very carefully he slipped his hands under James and scooped him up to cradle him in his arms. Luckily James was in such a deep sleep that he didn't wake up when he was moved. Frank quietly left the room to take James back to his crib in his own room.

Once Frank was gone, Sally could have happily fallen asleep but it wouldn't be comfy to sleep in her jeans and jumper. She pushed herself off the bed and got changed into her night vest top and bed shorts that she wore to bed. Once she was changed, she walked over to the window and went to close the bedroom blinds. As she was closing the blinds, she paused when it was half closed and looked out into the city lights. Her little girl was out there somewhere, scared and with people she didn't know.

Her life was finally in a good place. She had Frank, two beautiful babies, a great work family and great friends. Why or who would want to take her innocent baby girl? If someone had done it to get revenge on Sally, she didn't know anyone that hated her that much. In past she had known people who hated her but she had cut those people out of her life, as there was no point in keeping contact with people who hated her. In the back of her mind, she wondered if it was someone from Frank's past that had done this. Frank had cut almost all ties to Jimmy when she told him she was still pregnant and promised her he wouldn't beat anyone up for money. She trusted him and so far he hadn't broken that promise but had Jimmy done this to drag Frank back into his game. Whoever had done this; it wasn't the police they had to worry about but facing Sally when she found out who took Sarah. Her eyes were tearing up again thinking of Sarah.

As she was staring out into the city, she didn't hear Frank coming back into the room and walked up behind her.

"Sal, did you hear me?" Frank asked from behind her.

"No I was miles away." Sally said, as the tears were about to fall down her face.

"It's just us now. Talk to me." Frank said hoping she would open up to him. As he spoke, he gently placed his arms around Sally's waist. As he did this, it was the push that Sally needed.

She gave into her emotions and let the tears escape from her eyes and run down her face. As the tears fell, she turned around in Frank's arms and they both hugged each other. They didn't say anything for a few moments but just held each other to comfort each other.

"She's only a baby. Who would want to take a baby from their family?" Sally asked him as her tears fell on his shoulder.

"I don't know Sal but we will find her." Frank said as he held her tightly to him.

"What if she's acting like James and won't settle. James has us but Sarah doesn't. She needs to be with her mum, dad and brother." Sally replied to him.

"I know. We can only hope that whoever has her is looking after her until we get her back." Frank said as tears welled up in his own eyes.

Sally didn't reply but let out a heavy sigh. It was the only comfort she had just now that whoever had Sarah would be good to her and look after her until she was back with her family.

They both stayed silent for a few more moments holding each other.

"Let's get some sleep. Tomorrow is gonna be another long day." Frank said breaking the silence.

"Yeah. Just gonna go to the bathroom." Sally said as she left Frank's arms and gave him a weak smile.

Frank gave her a weak smile as well as she left their room and headed to the bathroom. Once she left, he finished closing the blinds and got ready for bed as well. Just as he was about to climb into bed, he checked James's baby monitor to check he was still sleeping. The monitor lit up green to show there was noise and the sound of James's heavy breathing filling the room. Normally it was Sally that did the night shift with the twins if they woke up but tonight he would do it. Hopefully James would sleep right through the night due to the stress of the day's events. Once he was happy that James was still sleeping, is eyes shifted to the second baby monitor, which had no lights on it or noise coming from this. Knowing that the silent monitor would torment Sally, he walked over to her side of the bed, unplugged the cable at the back and moved the monitor over to his side of the bed. He didn't like seeing the empty monitor either but it would be another blow to Sally to see it on her side of the bed.

Once he placed the monitor on his side table, he turned on his sidelight on the table, climbed into bed and got settled just as Sally walked back into their room. She left the bedroom door ajar, turned the main bedroom light off and climbed into her side of the bed. As she got settled into bed, Sally did notice that the second baby monitor was missing. It was strange to only have one baby monitor giving out noise but it wasn't as bad as seeing two baby monitors with only one making noises. Sally turned around and moved into Frank's awaiting arms, snuggling into his chest.

"Thank you." Sally said to him.

"Anytime." Frank said. He didn't need to ask what she meant. He knew what she was saying it for.

He leaned down and kissed her on the lips. Once they parted, Sally moved back in and gave him another kiss.

"Let's try and get some sleep." Frank said.

Frank let go of Sally so he could turn around and switch the bedside table light off, turning the room into darkness. Sally had turned around to face her bedside table so she could keep an eye on the baby monitor, even though it would be Frank that would get up to see James if he woke up. She felt Frank's arms go back around her but unlike this morning, she didn't fall asleep in seconds.

She wouldn't sleep properly until Sarah was back where she belonged but first they had to find her.

To be continued.
