Joy

Preparations begin as soon as they receive word of forward progress. Tunnel ceilings shored up. Weapons cleaned and stored. Barracks chiefs informed. Radio manned 24/7. They wait.

Frantic phone calls. Frenetic orders. Every man for himself. The residue from burning documents mixed with smoke from not so distant battles. They wait.

The first sign that the fate of everyone in camp would change forever was the sound of distant rumbling. The ground shook. Men on edge. They wait.

To the relief of all, there was no opposition. Just joy on both sides as the tanks rolled through the front gates.
