Cocoa
The residents of Barracks two lined up at the stove and patiently waited their turn. LeBeau gingerly filled their mugs with homemade cocoa made with Red Cross chocolate rations and dried milk.
"Careful, it's hot," he warned. The French chef stepped back and watched the men take their first sips of the beverage.
"This is smashing, mate." Newkirk gave his friend a friendly slap on the back.
"Ouch. Burned my tongue," Kinch complained. But his smile told LeBeau all he wanted to know.
Nothing gave LeBeau more pleasure than seeing his customers enjoy his creations; even when using meager rations.
