Gumdrops
The residents of Barracks two stared at the pile. Some men licked their lips while others shifted impatiently.
Finally, it was the most popular man in the hut who spoke.
"We'll divide them up evenly. That's how my wife would want it."
It took the highest ranking member of the group to stem the tide of volunteers.
"No filching." Hogan's order kept the crowd frozen in place. "Go ahead." He nodded.
They let the man complete his important task. No one ever asked Schultz where his wife got the ingredients to make gumdrops. But they were grateful for the gesture.
