Mistletoe
Hogan hoped to get Helga under the mistletoe that morning and give her a holiday-sanctioned kiss; then he saw the look on her face. "Anyone hurt?" He asked.
"No. Bombs destroyed part of Hamelburg road and I was late." Even those sympathetic to the Allied cause couldn't help but be resentful of whoever thought this form of retaliation would shorten the war.
"German efficiency will get the machinery of war moving again," she commented in a bitter tone. "And then it will continue." She slammed the drawer of the file cabinet shut so hard, the berries fell off the mistletoe.
