I tugged at my skirt. Yachi had really outdone herself with her fashion choice for me this evening. I loved my white and plaid contrasting skirt and black crop top she had picked. But, it definitely was a lot more fitted than my usual attire. I couldn't help but fidget and tug the rust-colored orange bomber jacket over my arms in attempt to cover the goosebumps that littered my bare arms.
We both strode over to the building across the neighborhood where the event was taking place. It looked like a regular house on the exterior. But, once we walked in, it looked like an eclectic maze on the inside. It turned out Akiteru's friend had renovated the building to become a literal interactive art display. The walls were covered by faux greenery and neon lettering in one room and in the next a hallway of mirrors. With each room, a new wonder was inside.
At some point, I hadn't realized Yachi and I had gotten separated. My eyes began darting looking for her in the darkness of the room I had just entered. This room was lit only by projectors that were portraying images of the constellations and the Milky Way. It was so hard to maintain my focus on the issue at hand when the sight before me was so beautiful. I was so busy staring at the projections that I hadn't paid attention to where I was going. I felt myself collide into a sturdy wall.. or so I thought.
I tumbled to the ground and squinted into the darkness.
"Vanji?" a familiar voice spoke.
"O-ow.. Hinata?" I groaned painfully.
"H-hey!" he exclaimed hurrying over to help me up, "Are you ok?"
"Heh.. I'm fine," I lied embarrassingly.
"You gotta be careful baby," he chuckled.
As Hinata helped me up, I noticed he seemed a little off. Especially his scent. It almost smelled like he'd been drinking. I looked up and noticed Hinata's usually sharp eyes were glassy and had trouble focusing.
"Hinata.. are you.. drunk?" I huffed.
"Me? No.. I just had like..." he hiccuped, "Two beers."
Oh god... not only did he drink.. he was a lightweight.
He leaned into my chest and started pulling me into a tight grip.
"H-Hinata can't breathe.." I squeaked gripping his forearm.
"O-oh I'm sorry!" he went to pull backward and stumbled and ended up pulling us both down. I landed on top of his chest and heard his breath get knocked out of his lungs upon impact.
"Hinata!" I yelped, "Idiot, are you okay?"
He burst into a giggling mess. I couldn't help but be confused by his odd behavior. First the distancing, now, he's a buzzed train wreck at a graduation party.
"Hinata!" I scolded, "You're being crazy."
"Ohh I'm being crazy NOW?" he snapped suddenly, "But, my whole moving across the world doesn't seem to bother you? But me having a good time does?"
"What the hell does that even mean?" I hissed.
"Vanji I'm leaving! And you don't even seem to care!" he shouted angrily.
"The hell?! I don't care?!!" I scoffed, "Hinata, I've been literally so upset I've been forgetting to eat and can't sleep because the thought of losing you hurts too much to bear! I love you too damn much to watch you go!"
We both sat stunned at the outburst of my confession. Then, I felt my tears begin to overflow. All the emotions I had been wanting to share with him, came like waves. Hinata had sat up and pulled me into his arms. I began sobbing uncontrollably:
"Why do you have to leave? Why?" I cried pounding my fists against his chest, "I don't want you to go..."
I felt like I sounded like a greedy toddler. That I was being selfish. But, I needed him to know how angry I was with him. Nonetheless, he held onto me tight. Through my sobs, I could feel his breath hitch and his own tears begin to drip onto the top of my hair. When I would try to look up at his face, he'd pull me tighter into his chest.
We were both heartbroken and we both needed to know how the other felt.
After we both seems to have calmed down, Hinata carefully released me and I looked up at him. His eyes were puffy and his cheeks rosy. I sniffled and smiled.
"You're such a crybaby," I teased.
"Heh.. you're one to talk," he chuckled.
"Hinata.. if Brazil is where you need to be, I will support you. No matter what," I said my voice trembling.
"Baby," he sighed, "It kills me the thought of leaving.. but, I need to try. I won't know what I can accomplish in volleyball unless I do this. But, don't think for even a second that means this doesn't hurt me any less."
I leaned forward and pressed my forehead against his. His warm breath tickled my nose and cheeks.
"Then, I guess I'll just have to become your biggest fan then huh?" I grinned.
"What? You aren't already?!" he seemed offended.
"Nah... I think I'm more of a fan of Tsukishima," I winked.
"Aw anyone but Tsukishima babe!!" he pleaded.
I heard laughter from the other side of the room. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi must have walked him a few moments earlier.
"Dude... that must sting!" Tsukishima bellowed.
"Oh shut up Tsukishima!" I giggled, "I could take you on any day!"
"Ohhh is that a bet Miss Manager?" Tsukishima sneered, "Put your money where your mouth is. We just finished setting up the volleyball net outside."
"You're on!" Hinata and I shouted.
