In was several days after Daryl and Kayla went on their run and the night Kayla kissed Daryl. She left the top of the RV with only a few words hanging in the air to explain her actions, leaving Daryl completely dumbstruck. He kept replaying what she said over and over in his head, trying to find a way to figure her out. That was just was in case I die tomorrow. Daryl understood what she meant, but didn't know why she kissed him. She nearly killed in the hours prior to kissing him, but he wasn't the type of guy girls wanted. He was a neglected and damaged person who was a survivor well before the apocalypse but then again…so was she.

It was the day Rick and Shane were planning to take Randall away which meant Daryl had the day to talk to her. He's been avoiding her as much as possible by going hunting as much as he could and retiring to his space quickly. It was actually harder than he thought because she was nice company. She didn't pry or talk too much and her quiet presence was comfortable. It wasn't awkward or weird…but instead it was almost relaxing.

It was a little after noon and Shane and Rick had already left with Randall. Kayla was returning to the camp after checking in on Beth who was getting better and having a conversation with Maggie who Kayla was becoming close with. Daryl watched her as she walked back to the camp, glancing his way for a moment, giving him a smile, and then going up to talk to Dale. The two have become pretty close since she joined the group and were always in a conversation with one another. Daryl knew he couldn't avoid her forever, but didn't know how to approach her. But thankfully she took care of that part when he saw her come down from the RV after about ten minutes.

She came over to him and Daryl took in her appearance. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and she was dressed in skinny jeans with a red buttoned up long sleeved shirt that matched her black boots. She stopped in front of him and he looked up at her. "I have to take those stitches out now." She said. "If they're in any in any longer you could get an infection." Daryl stood up and nodded. She motioned for him to follow her to her tent. He followed her and when they reached the tent, she opened the flap and led him inside. It was clean, her cot made and a book resting on the bed side table next to the mini clock and bottle of water that contained the Cherokee Rose he had given her. He looked at it for a moment seeing that it was in the midst of wilting, yet she still kept it.

"You can lie down there while I get the kit." Kayla told him fishing through her bag for the first aid kit. Daryl didn't say anything, but instead just unbuttoned his shirt and laid down. She turned his way with the first aid kit and pulled out a pair of scissors. "Do the wounds hurt at all?" she asked kneeling down next to him.

"No." Daryl answered simply.

"They look fine, just need to take the stitches out." Kayla replied.

Kayla angled the scissors at his side and snipped the stitches carefully. Then she pulled the strings from his skin. Daryl watched her as she did so and studied her face which was focused at the same time it was relaxed. "Any pain?" she asked. He shook his head. She got the rest of the stitches out and cleaned the wound before placing a bandage on it. "I have to take the ones out on your head too." She said. Daryl nodded and sat up. She pushed his hair out of the way and looked directly at where the stitches were, mindful not to cut him. Daryl's eyes were on her again and tried to think of what to say, but he was tongue tied. He felt her pulling the stitches from his head and realized he was losing time. "Kayla…" he said quietly and unsurely. "Hm?" she sounded.

"What was that night about on the RV?" Daryl asked. She looked at him and he could see the blush forming on her cheeks. She looked back at his head and shook hers. "I like you." She told him. "And I didn't want to die having regrets. If I died that day, I lived without taking that risk." Daryl looked at her for a moment, waiting for her to continue. She let out a breath as she cleaned his head. "It's not like I'm asking for a relationship or anything, but I just wanted to make sure you knew how I felt about you…" she finished. Daryl didn't know what to say. He liked her. He knew that, but he wasn't sure if he wanted a relationship in this world. Getting so close to someone and that constant fear and possibility that they could be gone the next day was always there. He could tell her that, but he didn't want to. He liked her and she took a chance with him so why shouldn't he take a chance with her.

"I'm not good at this kind of thing…" he finally said. Kayla chuckled and looked at him. "I kind of figured that…neither am I." she admitted. "It took A LOT to kiss you. Daryl half smiled, but it quickly faded. "I've never been good at relationships. Hell I've never really been in one…" he informed her.

"Same here and I'm not asking for a relationship, I just wanted you to know." Kayla reminded him as she closed up the first aid kit. "But do you want one?" Daryl asked. She looked at him. "I wouldn't object to one." She told him. Daryl stood up and buttoned up his shirt. "Look I like you too. You're the only one around here who gets why I am the way I am. But I never had a real relationship so don't expect much." He told her.

"Most of the time I don't expect a lot because in the end I just get let down." Kayla replied with a sadder tone. Daryl gave her a long look before answering. "I will do my absolute best not to let you down." he assured her. She gave him a slight smile which he returned. "Wanna take a walk?" he offered. She nodded and followed him out of her tent.

Daryl and Kayla walked the edge of the property and went around the perimeter of the main yard. "So what was your life like before the world went to shit?" Daryl asked. "Normal." Kayla answered. "I worked pretty crazy hours, but had a normal life. Went to work, spent time with my group of friends…I had a normal life."

"When did you take off from your dad?" Daryl asked, looking her way.

"The second I turned eighteen." Kayla answered. "Packed my shit and drove from Mississippi to Georgia with Angela. She was my closest friend since I was ten…we both worked out asses off in school and got scholarships to a college in the state where we studied to become EMTs….what about you?"

"Me and my brother worked construction together and I had a job at a mechanics garage too. Not much to me really." Daryl answered.

"Did you take off from your parents?" Kayla asked.

"Yeah when I was seventeen…never looked back."

"Neither did I."

A silence fell for a few minutes before Kayla spoke up again. "What do you miss most about your life? I mean before all this?" she asked.

"My brother." Daryl told her leaving out the details. "How bout you?"

"Angela." Kayla answered. "She was my first and longest friend. Now I don't even know if she's alive out somewhere."

The two continued walking for a while before the sound of a car coming up the drive caught their attention and Shane and Rick stepped out. They watched as they went around to the trunk and pull Randall out. "They brought him back…" Kayla sighed.

"Wonder why." Daryl added before leading her back to the house.

At the house Shane was putting Randall into the barn when Daryl and Kayla arrived. Kayla instantly noticed the blood on Rick's face as Lori and Andrea came over. "What the hell happened?" Lori asked worriedly. "We ran into some walkers, we're fine though." "Rick assured his wife.

"What about Randall?" Andrea asked.

"He knows Maggie apparently." Rick explained as Shane walked over. "We couldn't take the risk so we brought him back. We'll figure something out tomorrow."

"Let me get you cleaned up." Kayla said looking at the blood.

"Kayla where have you been all afternoon?" Lori asked. Kayla looked at her. "I was with Daryl in the yards."

"She's fine, Hershel took care of it, but Beth slit her wrists. We needed you." Lori explained.

"I am so sorry." Kayla apologized. "I checked on her earlier and she seemed fine."

"Just make sure you're nearby in case something else happened." Lori concluded walking off.

Kayla led Shane and Rick to the house to clean them up, giving Daryl a smile as she walked off.
