Just a head's up there is a lot of dialogue in this chapter and it's probably going to be a little boring since not a lot happened in this episode.

The next morning Kayla was standing around with Rick and the others while Daryl questioned Randall in the barn. She knew what more was happening in the barn, but tried not to think about it. She was lacing her boots up when Daryl came walking over. She looked at him and immediately noticed his bloody knuckles. A slight frown formed on her face, but she quickly erased it as he approached the group. "Boy there got a gang." Daryl informed them. "Thirty men, got a heavy artillery and aren't looking to make friends…they roll through here our boys are dead and the women are going to wish they were."

"What did you do?" Carol asked, looking at his knuckles.

"We had a little chat." Daryl told her walking over to Kayla.

"No one goes near this guy." Rick told the group.

"Rick, what are you going to do?" Lori asked.

"He's a threat. We have to eliminate the threat." Rick declared.

"You're just going to kill him?" Dale questioned.

"It's settled…I'll do it today."

With that said Rick walked off and Dale followed. Kayla turned towards Daryl and looked at his knuckles. "Come on." She breathed out. "Let me clean your hands." Daryl followed her to her tent and she pulled out her first aid kit. Daryl sat on her cot and she sat next to him, reaching out for his hands. She wiped the blood from them and put a disinfectant on it. "Do you think killing him is the right thing to do?" Daryl asked her. She looked at him. "I think it's a solution." She replied.

"Do you think it's the right thing to do though?" Daryl questioned.

"In my opinion I wish Rick would try to figure something out." Kayla admitted. "He's just a kid. He can't be at least twenty."

"He's a threat."

"I know. But even if the execution is humane…it just doesn't sit right with me."

"Why not?"

Kayla closed up the first aid kit. "Because I dedicated my life to helping people and just killing someone or at least consenting to it in this manor…it just..."

Daryl looked at her as she struggled to find the words. Before she could say anything he put his hand on hers. She looked at him and smiled, turning her hand over to hold his. He gave her a slight smile before standing up with her. "I'm gonna go out to see if I can find anything worth killing for dinner." He told her. "Wanna come?" he offered.

"I would, but I don't need Lori bitching at me again today." Kayla answered. Daryl chuckled. "I'll see you in a little bit then." He said. She nodded and he bent down, placing a soft kiss on her cheek. Kayla felt her cheeks turn red as he stood back up straight and looked at her. He turned and walked out of the tent, leaving Kayla in a very happy mood.

The day passed uneventfully, Dale going around to each group member to try to save Randall's life. When he got to Kayla, she was in the field watching the sun begin to sink into the horizon. Dale came over to her and sat down next to her, watching the sky with her. "I'm with you on this Dale." Kayla said. "He shouldn't be killed. It's just not right that Rick brought him back, not wanting him to die, and then just kill him himself."

"Thank you." Dale said. Kaya looked at him. "No thank you." She said. "For bringing me into this group and just accepting me." Dale put a hand on her shoulder. "There is no thank you needed." He told her. She gave him a smile and then as soon as he arrived, he was gone, off to the house.

Kayla saw Daryl coming up through the field back from his hunt and smiled at the sight of him. She remained seated until he approached her. "You coming?" he asked. "Yeah…" she told him. He held out her hand to him and she accepted it. He pulled her up and the two walked to the house together.

In the house the environment was quiet and unsure. Kayla stayed by Daryl, feeling secure by his side as the discussion began. "So how do we do this?" Glenn asked. "Just take a vote?"

"Does it have to be ananomus?" Andrea questioned.

"How bout majority rules?" Lori suggested.

"Let's just see where everybody stands and then we can talk through the options." Rick said.

"The way I see it there's only one way to move forward." Shane spoke up.

"Killing him…right?" Dale questioned in a hard tone. "Why even take a vote? It's clear which way the winds blowing."

"If people believe we should spare him I wanna know." Rick stated.

"I think we should." Kayla spoke up. Rick turned towards her and everyone's eyes landed on her. "I mean you brought him back. We-we fixed his leg, gave him shelter, and then went off and tortured him and now you just wanna kill him yourself."

"That was before we realized her was a threat." Rick replied.

"Who is we? I don't find him as a threat, Dale doesn't. You have this idea that he is going to come up with some plan that he may not even contemplate let alone attempt."

"Couldn't we continue keeping him prisoner?" Maggie asked, trying to back Kayla up.

"Just another mouth to feed." Daryl interjected

"It may be a lean winter." Hershel added.

"We could ration better." Lori suggested.

"Well e could be an asset." Dale pointed out. "Give him a chance to prove himself."

"We could put him to work." Glen seconded.

"We're not letting him walk around." Rick stated.

"Put an escort on him." Maggie suggested.

"Who wants to volunteer for that duty?" Shane questioned.

"I will." Dale volunteered.

"I don't think anyone should be walking around with this guy." Rick pointed out.

"He's right, I wouldn't feel safe unless he was tied up." Lori agreed.

"We can't exactly put chains around his ankles and sentence him to hard labor." Andrea added.

"Look," Shane said. "Say we let him join us, right and maybe he's helpful maybe he's nice and we let our guard down and he runs off and brings back his thirty men."

"So the solution is to kill him for a crime he may never even attempt?" Dale questioned. "If we do this we're saying there's no hope. Rule of law is dead there is no civilization."

"Oh my God." Shane sighed.

"Shane." Kayla said in a sharp tone.

"Could you drive him further out?" Hershel asked. "Leave him like you planned?"

"You barely came back this time." Lori reminded Rick. "There are walkers, you could break down, you could get lost…"

"You could get ambushed." Daryl added.

"We should not put out own people at risk." Glenn stated.

"If you would go through with it, how would you do it?" Patricia asked. "Would he suffer?"

"We could hang him right?" Shane exampled. "Snap his neck."

"I thought about it…shooting would be more humane."

"What about the body?" T-Dog asked.

"HOLD ON!" Dale interrupted. "You're talking about it like it's already decided!"

"You've been talking all day." Daryl reminded him. "Going around circles, wanna go around circles again?"

"THIS IS A YOUNG MAN'S LIFE! And it is worth more than a five minute conversation!" Dale exclaimed.

"Rick the only reason he shot at you was because you killed his men first." "Kayla reminded Rick.

"We told them they drew on us." Rick told her.

"And how do they know that was the truth?" Kayla questioned. "Even though it is, they didn't know that."

"How are better than those people we're so afraid of?" Dale added.

A silence fell before Shane spoke again. "We all know what needs to be done." He said.

At the end of the conversation, it was decided Randall would die. Only Dale, Kayla, and even Andrea who later agreed with Dale were on board with sparing Randall which wasn't enough. Dale left the house in tears, saying the group was broken. Kayla followed Dale outside and stopped him in the front yard. "Dale!" she called out. He stopped and turned towards her. She rushed over and stood in front of him. "I know that didn't go the way you wanted it to and I'm sorry…" she apologized. Dale met her eyes and put his hands on her shoulders. "You have nothing to apologize for." He told her before walking off.

Later that night Kayla sat by the fire wishing Daryl was there with her, but he was in the barn with Rick and Shane to execute Randall. The day's events had her tired and worn out so all she really wanted to do was go to sleep. She awaited the single gunshot that would signal the Randall would be dead…just like that. But it never came. Instead Rick and Shane came back over with Carl who was sent to Rick and Lori's tent. Rick announced Randall would remain in custody which Kayla was glad to hear. "I'll go find Dale." Andrea said. "I'll come with you." Kayla offered. Andrea looked at her for a moment before nodding. Kayla didn't want any bad blood between them and figured they should start off fresh.

The two walked towards the RV in quiet before Kayla spoke up. "Look Andrea I know you don't like me, but can we just put what happened behind us?" Kayla asked. Andrea looked at her for a moment before nodding. Just then a loud scream echoed. "What was that?" Andrea asked.

"It sounded like Dale." Kayla said worriedly. With that Andrea took off towards the field with Kayla following close behind. They burst through the gate leading into the main field when they heard Rick's yell. "Kayla!" he yelled. "We need Kayla!" Kayla ran faster and she and Andrea approached the group in the field where they found Dale on the ground with his stomach torn open. Her jaw dropped at the sight and knelt down next to him. She examined his stomach and tears filled her eyes. "We have to get him back to the house!" Rick yelled. Kayla looked at Dale's eyes and shook her head. "He won't make the trip…" she said.

"You and Hershel will have to do the operation here then, Glenn go back to the house-" Rick began, but Kayla cut him off. "Rick." She said. "His small intestine is completely ripped open and so is his stomach and liver…" Tears were filling her eyes as she shook her head. Glenn, Andrea, and Lori were all crying and Kayla fell back, leaning on her palms as her own tears fell. Dale gasped and cried in pain as he laid there. "He's suffering…" Andrea said. "Do something."

Rick unholstered his gun and aimed it at Dale's head, but couldn't pull the trigger. That's when Daryl stepped over and took the gun from Rick. Kayla watched at Daryl knelt down and aimed the gun at Dale's head. "Sorry brother." Daryl said to Dale before pulling the trigger.
