Klink "drank the lemonade" and approved Hogan's request. Soon, guards watched as a group of volunteers began their work making skates for the prisoners.
The Canadians—who were already playing hockey with whatever materials they could scrounge up—stared in shock at those prisoners gingerly skating their way across the frozen compound.
Carter, who knew the cold as well as he knew chemistry, was explaining the physics of jumps to Olsen. Others just skated with abandon across the ice.
Hogan brought Klink outside to watch the revelry. "See, Kommandant. I told you this would be a good distraction."
Klink agreed.
a/n: I would say the POWs gingerly making their way across the compound expresses my own frustration at my worthless attempts at skating.
As to the hockey comment. In 2015, my husband and I took a wonderful cruise up to Canada; visiting Quebec and other provinces, towns...I distinctly recall being shown numerous hockey arenas on every single tour! (curling was mentioned as well, but I had to leave that out)
