Season Three will officially begin on this chapter

There are a few types of tired. There one where you are physically tired where you just want to curl up in bed with a warm blanket and soft pillow and drift off into sleep. Then there's the tired where you are tired of something or someone like school or one of your siblings. The Atlanta group was experiencing both of these types. After being on the road for eight months after the farm was overrun, they haven't had good night's sleep in a long time and they were always running and having a sense of fear every time they looked a different direction…something they were tired of doing and feeling.

The group was on another one of the back roads after the roads after they had to flee another neighborhood when a large group of walkers came through. Kayla hopped off of Daryl's motorcycle and the two walked down the others where they were laying out a map on the hood of a car. Kayla and Daryl's relationship has grown closer throughout the months, but have gotten into several fights But they weren't the only ones. Maggie and Glenn fought occasionally, but only because of the stress sitting on their shoulders from the situation.

Kayla was looking at the map with Maggie who she has grown close to over the months when Rick pulled her aside. "Mind checking on Lori?" he asked. Kayla shook her head. "Not at all." She told him before walking over to the car Lori was seated in. She was due in a couple of weeks and Rick was getting anal about making sure Lori was in the best health as possible which was the only form of care he seemed to show her these days. She's been having a few pains and some things that worried Kayla, but they seemed to be no big deal. She's had some late nights with Lori lately and Rick, too who wanted to make sure everything was alright. Ever since the night after the farm, Kayla has looked at Rick in a different light…like he lost a small piece of who he was.

Kayla reached Lori's car and leaned against the door. "How ya feelin' today?" she asked the pregnant mother. Lori looked at her. "Tired." She answered.

"We all are." Kayla replied. "Any nauseas feeling?"

"A little." Lori told her

"Is the baby still kicking?"

"Occasionally…less than before."

Kayla rested her chin on the door and closed her eyes as she let out a breath. "I'll do a small examination when we find a place. Until then make sure you eat enough and drink enough fluids. Rest when you can, too." Kayla said tiredly.

"Kayla I'm sorry I've been keeping you up these past couple of weeks with everything I am. And appreciate everything you've done." Lori apologized.

"It's okay Lori." Kayla assured her. I once had to work a 72-hour shift at the hospital with next to know sleep after a train crash which brought in over a hundred patients. No need to apologize for anything."

Before Lori could answer Kayla went back over to the group where some of the group members left to go refill their water supply while Rick and Daryl prepared to go out to hunt. Rick walked over to Kayla and asked how Lori was. "She's fine, but can't talk a lot more of all the traveling." Kayla told him. Rick just simply nodded before going over and grabbing his rifle. Kayla walked over to Daryl as he pulled back the string of his crossbow and load an arrow in. "Be careful." She told him. He gave her a half smile as he stood up. "Always am." He reminded her. It was her turn to smile.

"I'll be here." she told him, walking over to his bike where her bag was. She waited until he and Rick were in the woods and out of sight before opening up her bag and pulling out the small first aid kit she had. Rolling up her pant leg, she revealed a gash on her calf she got jumping a fence a couple of weeks ago. It needed a couple of stitches, but they didn't have any so she just kept cleaning and bandaging it. She kept it to herself for now since it wasn't that bad and she didn't want any unneeded worry in the others.

About thirty minutes passed with Kayla sitting on the bike with her feet stretched out reading To Kill A Mockingbird which she found in one of the house last week. She was at the part where Scout found the gum in the tree outside the Radley House when the others came back from the creek and Daryl and Rick came back from hunting, a smile on Rick's face.

OOOOO

When the group got to the prison Rick and Daryl had found while out hunting, Rick cut a hole in the fence with bolt cutter to get onto the prison grounds. Kayla and Daryl stood by on the side, ready to kill any walker that got close. The Greene's went through the fence first, followed by Glenn, Lori, Carol, Carl, and T-Dog. "Come on!" Rick said to Kayla and Daryl. Kayla let Daryl go first and she followed, Daryl holding the fence open for her. Rick came through next and then they closed the hole with wire. The group ran ahead to the gate that led into the yard, Kayla staying close to Lori and watching Daryl at the same time as well as the many walkers in the yard only blocked off by a fence.

When they got to the gate and the first guard tower, Rick looked around at the yard as did everyone else. "It's perfect." He commented. "We can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We can take the field by tonight."

"How do we shut the gate?" Hershel questioned.

"I'll do it…you guys cover me." Glenn volunteered.

"No…suicide run." Maggie said in-between breaths.

"I'm the fastest."

"No, you Maggie, Beth, and Kayla draw as many as you can over there…pop em' through the fence." Rick instructed. Daryl head back to the other tower. Carol, you've become a pretty good shot. Take your time we don't have a lot of ammo to waste. Hershel, you and Carl take this tower. I'll run for the gate." Kayla, Beth, Glenn, and Maggie went over to the fence along with T-Dog while the others took their position. They attracted the walkers over to them by yelling and banging on the fence. Kayla raised her weapon, which was an old pipe sharpened into a point. She jammed it through every walker that came close enough and watched as Rick ran through the field to the gate. He closed and locked it and then took to the guard tower right by the fence. She smiled at his success and heard Daryl's voice yell out. "Light it up!" She pulled out her gun and aimed at the walkers through the fence, shooting them until the last one fell.

After the field was clear, Kayla and the others walked over to the yard and walked into it, taking in all the space they had. A smile spread across Kayla's face as she heard all the others yell in happiness from their success. Kayla holstered her gun and laughed just as a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist and spun her around. She laughed harder as Daryl set her down and put an arm across her shoulders while placing a kiss on her temple. She leaned against his shoulder as they walked towards the tower Rick was in and for the first time for a long time, she felt as if they found a place to stay.

OOOOO

Later that night, Daryl was walking back from his watch with Carol following when he saw Kayla half asleep on her blanket. She had her eyes closed, but Daryl knew when she was really out…she couldn't sleep unless he was with her. No matter how sleep deprived she was she needed him there which Daryl didn't mind at all.

He walked over to her blanket and gently touched her shoulder, causing her to open her eyes right away. "Hey." She said tiredly. "Hey." He replied with a smile. Kayla sat up and made room for Daryl, allowing him to sit on the blanket with her. She sat between his legs and laid back against his chest, Beth and Maggie's singing and Daryl's heartbeat soothing her into what soon would be a deep, relaxing, sleep, but then the singing stopped and Rick's voice replaced the quiet.

"Better all turn in." he said quietly. "I'll take watch over there. Got a big day tomorrow."

"Whadda ya mean?" Glenn asked.

"Look I know we're all exhausted…this was a great win. But we gotta push just a little bit more. Most of the walkers are dressed as guards and prisoners. Looks like this place fell pretty early. It could mean the supplies may still be intact. They have an infirmary. Commissary."

"An armory." Daryl interjected.

"That would be off the prison itself, but not too far away." Rick confirmed. "The warden's office will have information on the location. Weapons, food, medicine…this place could be a gold mine.

"We're dangerously low on ammo." Hershel reminded Rick. "We'd run out before we made a dent."

"That's why we gotta go in there…hand to hand. After all we've been through…we can handle it, I know it." A silence fell before Rick looked around and then down at Carl. "These assholes don't stand a chance." He said to Carl. Carl smiled and then Rick left to take his watch, Lori following behind after a few moments.

Everyone else in the group began to lie down and get ready for bed, including Daryl and Kayla. Daryl laid down with one arm behind his head with Kayla lying next to him, her head on his chest. Daryl put his free arm around her and held her close which was something that still surprised him. How comfortable he was with Kayla was something he's never felt before. He always told himself it was because she was just as damaged as he was, but he knew there was more to it than what first came to mind. Instead of thriving on it, he closed his eyes and drifted off quickly into a well deserved sleep.
