Kayla was sitting on the steps when she heard a door open followed by fast footsteps and frantic voices. "Open the door!" she heard Rick yell. "It's Hershel!" She hurried down the steps and over to the cell door as Carl unlocked it and came into sight. Rick, Glenn, and Maggie were all pushing Hershel in on a metal table and Kayla saw the blood. "Get him on the bed!" Rick ordered. Kayla rushed in and helped Rick lift Hershel on to the bed. "What the hell happened?" she asked upon seeing Hershel's cut off limb. "He got bit." Rick answered as they moved him onto the bed.

Everyone moved out of the way so Kayla could get through and she removed the towels from the stump to find more bleeding. "We need bandages!" She told the others, covering it back up.

"We used everything we had." Glenn reminded her.

"Well get more, anything!" Kayla replied.

Kayla examined the wound when Rick crouched down next to her. "DO you think you can stabilize him?" he asked.

"I need to keep his leg elevated. Get some pillows!" Kayla called out.

"He's already bled through the sheets." Maggie pointed out.

"Don't you burn the wound to clot the blood? I could start a fire." Glenn suggested.

"No the shock could kill him! And it won't stop all the arteries from bleeding. We need to dress it and keep it dressed so it will heal on its own." Kayla informed him.

As Kayla wrapped the wound in towels Carl brought and put pillows under it she looked around and didn't see Daryl. "Where-Where's Daryl?" she asked Rick as she kept pressure on the wound. "Where is he?"

Just then the sound of unfamiliar voices filled the air. "Who's that?" Lori asked. "Prisoners. Survivors. Daryl is out there dealing with it. Everyone just stay put." Rick told the group before going out to the scene. Kayla's heart dropped for a moment but then she calmed herself down. Daryl was alright and only in the next room.

OOOOO

It was a while before Kayla managed to slow down the bleeding in Hershel's leg to almost nothing. She smiled to herself when she heard the door open. "Carol can you take over for a minute? I need to see what's going on." Kayla asked.

"Of course." Carol replied. Kayla showed her where to put her hands and what to do before stepping out of the cell. "Rick." She said walking over to him.

"How is he?" Rick asked her.

"The bleeding stopped and we have in wrapped with towels." Kayla informed him. "Where's Daryl?"

"He's fine…out with the prisoners."

"Can I go see him? Just for a minute."

"I don't want anyone else near them Kayla."

"I know and I understand but just for a second. I mean it's Daryl. Please."

Rick looked at her for a minute before nodding. "Come with me." he said. Kayla followed him out to the other part of the cell block as he explained that they were going to try to clear a cell block for the prisoners. In the other room, Kayla saw Daryl's back and smiled, but it quickly disappeared when she saw the prisoners. But it wasn't the one with red hair and a mustache or the very large dark-skinned man with a black beard. And it wasn't the small, scrawny, dark-skinned man or the Hispanic man with long-ish black hair and beard. Hell it wasn't the other dark skinned man who had an innocent look on his face that made Kayla's heart drop. It was the man with slicked back brown hair with grey in it that matched his stubble and dark blue eyes.

"Kayla?" the man asked, taking a step forward. Daryl quickly raised his crossbow at the man and told him to stop. The man raised his hands and looked at Kayla. "Kayla is that really you?" he asked.

"Kayla who is he?" Rick questioned. She swallowed the lump in her throat and opened her mouth to speak. "His name is Alex Wilmington..." Kayla explained. "He's my father…"

Rick looked at Kayla in surprise and so did Daryl. Then the two looked at Alex. Kayla looked at Daryl for a moment before Alex spoke up. "Would you mind if my daughter and I had a word outside?" he asked.

"I am not your daughter." Kayla snapped at him, trying to push away the tears that were threatening to make an appearance. "And as far as anything is concerned you are not my father either."

"Can we please just talk?" Alex asked. Rick pulled Kayla aside and looked at her. "I need you to get back inside to Hershel and deal with that. Too much is going on right now for this to be happening too." Rick told her.

"Can I talk to Daryl for a minute? Away from them?" Kayla asked as she looked at the prisoners. Rick motioned for Daryl to come over and he did. Rick walked over to T-Dog and left Daryl with Kayla. She pulled him farther away from the others and looked at him. "Look I don't know why the hell he is here and what the hell is going on, but-" Kayla began to say but Daryl cut her off by putting his hands on the sides of her face. "Calm down for one." He told her.

"Look if something happens while you're gone-" She began again.

"We'll all be fine." Daryl assured her. Kayla nodded and Daryl kissed her forehead before dropping his hands from her face. "Now go fix up Hershel's leg." He told her with a half-smile. Kayla smiled back at him before turning around and going back into the other room.

OOOOO

Kayla was wrapping Hershel's leg in gauze wraps that Carl got from the infirmary…by himself which Lori was not happy about. Carol was outside with Glenn and Maggie and Beth were talking in another cell. Carl was up in his cell and Lori was the only other person with Kayla next to Hershel's bed. The leg was wrapped and he was still unconscious, but he was stable which was enough for now.

For a while Kayla thought about her father and how he was here in the prison. She didn't want anything to do with him after everything he had done to her and she didn't know what he was doing in prison either. He had a history of violence and substance abuse which could always lead to the worst possible kinds of things. Right now Kayla was worried for the safety of Rick, T-Dog, and Daryl since they were in the other cell block with him and the other prisoners.

When her mind had finally had enough and couldn't take any more of the overthinking Kayla leaned against the wall and closed her eyes. She was able to drift off for a few minutes after Maggie and the others returned to the cell, but she was woken up soon when Hershel stopped breathing.

Beth shook her awake in tears and told her to do something. Kayla walked over and checked his pulse and listened for a heartbeat. "Lori you need to do CPR." Kayla told Lori.

"What?" Lori questioned. "You can't do it?"

"I can do it, but you need to learn how to do these things, too. If you can't I'll take over but if I die, you all need to know how to do these things." Kayla explained.

Lori looked at her for a moment before starting chest compressions. "Do them about five to ten times and then give him some air." Kayla instructed.

Lori did as Kayla said and Kayla was by her side by the whole time. Lori was doing great until Hershel grabbed the back of her head and held her head in place, causing alarm in everyone. Kayla pulled Lori away and looked at Hershel who was successfully revived. Lori and everyone was in shock, including Carl who had a gun pointed at Hershel, fearing that he had come back as a walker.

"That's normal in patients who receive CPR." Kayla told them. "They come back delirious and confused…scared. It's happened to me before. But Lori…you saved his life." Lori looked at Kayla still shaken up from what happened, but gave her a smile as well.

OOOOO

Kayla was lying down on her and Daryl's bed on the perch when she heard the door to the cell block open. She sat up and saw Rick, Daryl, and T-Dog all enter. Kayla smiled and walked down the stairs to Daryl. She joined him at Hershel's cell where he put an arm around her and kissed her head.

"Did everything go alright?" Kayla asked.

"Alex and two others are in the cell block. The other three didn't make it." Daryl informed her, leaving out the gory details. "How'd everything go here?"

"Hershel stopped breathing. Lori gave him CPR and brought him back."

Kayla and Daryl looked at Hershel and the others when the old man began to wake up. Kayla stood up straight and watched his eyes, seeing them look his normal color. A smile spread across everyone's face as Hershel took Rick's hand and he showed signs of stability. It didn't last long because he fell asleep again soon afterwards.

Everyone retired to bed except for Glenn, Maggie, and Beth who stated with Hershel and Lori and Rick who went outside. Daryl was lying on the mattress as Kayla took her boots off and got ready to get some sleep.

"Wanna talk about it?" Daryl asked her, regarding Alex.

"Nope." She answered setting her boots down. "There is nothing to talk about. He isn't family, he isn't anything to me. He is just someone who lives in another cell block. My family is right here in this cell block." She laid back and pulled the blankets over her before resting her head on Daryl's chest. He wrapped an arm around her and kissed her head. "Nothing to me at all." She told him.
