When Rick finally consoled himself he was sitting on his knees staring blankly into space. Daryl was trying to get him to respond, but nothing was working. Maggie handed the baby over to Carl and Kayla finally came to her own senses after what happened in the tombs and nearly getting bit by the walker that fell on her. "Let me see the baby." She said. Carl brought the crying baby over to Kayla who took the baby into her arms carefully. "What're we gonna feed it? Daryl asked. "We got anything a baby can eat?"

Kayla looked the baby over and saw she was just about perfect. "The good thing is she looks healthy. But she needs formula and soon or she survive past tomorrow." she told Daryl. "Nope. No way not her." Daryl said. We ain't losing no one else I'm going on a run." He stated, slinging his crossbow onto his back.

"I'll back you." Maggie told him.

"I'll go to." Glenn added.

"Okay think where we're going." Daryl replied. He turned away and said something to Beth as Kayla remained focused on the baby. She tried to get her to stop crying, but nothing was going to work. Carl looked at her with a curious look which Kayla saw. "Why don't you hold her?" she suggested.

"Maybe later…" Carl said. Kayla looked at him and saw his face change to a more saddened expression. Kayla continued to try to lull the baby when Daryl's voice caught her attention again.

"You three get the fence!" Daryl told Alex, Axel, and Oscar. "Too many pile up we got ourselves a problem. Glenn, Maggie, vamanos!"

Just then Kayla saw Rick get up and grab the axe lying on the ground. He turned and headed off into the cell block, an angered expression on his face. "Rick!" Maggie called out, trying to stop him. But he didn't stop. He kept going.

"Get the gate!" Daryl yelled. "Come on we're gonna lose the light!"

Kayla went over to Beth and handed her the baby. "I'm gonna get the gate. Oscar come with me!" she called out as she rushed over to the gate. She unlocked it and Oscar pulled it open all the way before rushing down to the other two gates with Kayla.

Kayla opened the first gate and Oscar opened the second just as Daryl rode down on the motorcycle with Maggie. He stopped next to Kayla and looked at her. "Hold things down here with Glenn while we're gone." He told her. "Got it." Kayla said. She leaned over and kissed his cheek before stepping back to let him drive off. Oscar shut the gate and Kayla watched as Daryl drove down the road away from the person…fear and worry filling her entire body.

Kayla and Oscar closed the gates and then began walking back up towards the cell block where the others were. "You know Alex really wants to make things right." Oscar said. "Ever since I met him he always talked about how awful he felt for what he did to you." Kayla didn't say anything. "I get why you wouldn't want anything to do with him, but try at least talking to him."

"Why should I?" Kayla questioned as she stopped walking. "He doesn't deserve it." Oscar turned towards her. "After you left when you were eighteen he got help because he realized what he did. He lost you and he lost his wife. His alcoholism got worse and he got hooked on pain killers. Then he saw you in the news or some shit. Something about you saving a little girl's life or something?" Kayla thought back to that day. She was with Angela at a beach when a little girl got sucked out into the current. The lifeguard didn't notice so she swam out and brought the little girl to shore where she had to give her CPR for a minute. The event landed her in the newspaper and on the news too.

"After Alex saw that he saw what kind of person you turned into, he cleaned himself up and got help. Turns out he struggled from depression and bipolar disorder after your mom died. He went into rehab, got clean, and was going to come and find you to try to make things right with you in Georgia. He was here for about a week when he got thrown in here for two months after he got into a fight with some guy. I forget who he said it was, but he got a longer sentence because of his previous charges in the past. He was about to get out when shit hit the fan." Oscar explained to Kayla.

Kayla let all the words sink in as she and Oscar walked back to the cell block. She could understand what happened after Alex lost his wife, but did he have to take it out on her and abuse her like he did? Now that she knew he suffered from depression and bipolar disorder she saw more of his side of the situation, but he still hurt her…immensely. She let out a breath as they approached the cell block and saw him dragging bodies into a pile. Beth and Hershel were sitting with Carl at the table off to the side, the little baby in Beth's arms asleep. Kayla smiled and then saw Glenn start digging graves for the ones they lost. "Oscar would you and Axel mind checking the perimeter and then helping Glenn down there?" she asked. "Of course." He replied, walking off to Axel. Kayla walked over to where Alex was and started helping with the bodies.

"Some shit show, huh?" she said as she grabbed one of the dead walkers by its ankles. Alex looked at her and nodded. "I can't believe it." he said. "The dead walking around…how did this happen?"

"Not sure. An outbreak of the virus happened a little less than a year ago and it went bad real fast." Kayla explained as she and Alex drug the bodies to the pile. "I got the hell out of where I was and was going to try for Atlanta, but the city was overrun with walkers by the time I got halfway there so I just bounced around place to place until I met the group on a highway. We stayed on Hershel's farm for a bit, but a herd of walkers came through and we were on the road until we found the prison."

"I came to Georgia to make things right with you if you were wondering. But after a little brawl with a past friend I got my ass thrown in here for two months. Looks like the world ended before I could get out."

"Oscar told me." Kayla told him as she dropped the body into the pile. "He told me everything. And it's going to take a while for me to get past what you did to me. In fact I don't think I will ever be able to get past it. I can't forgive you because you made my life hell for a long time. But I am willing to…try to have some kind of relationship with you…" Alex looked at Kayla and smiled. "I know you can't forgive me. I understand because I wouldn't either. Blaming you for what happened to your mother and taking my frustration out on you was wrong and immoral. I can't forgive myself for what I did to you. But just saying you're willing to try with me has been the best news I have heard in a long time." Kayla chuckled. "Let's get these bodies together and then I have to go see how the baby is." She told Alex. He nodded and the two continued to pile the bodies up.

OOOOO

Later that night, Kayla was sitting with Carl and Hershel as Carl held his wailing baby sister while Glenn, Alex, Axel, and Oscar remained out at the gate as they awaited Daryl and Maggie's return. Kayla was trying to sing a lullaby for the baby, and it worked for a while but it was obvious she was hungry. Then she heard the door open and Daryl and Maggie came walking in. "How's she doin'?" Daryl asked walking over.

"She's hungry." Carl said as he handed Daryl the crying baby. "Shh." Daryl sounded as he took the baby into his arms. Her crying actually toned down a bit as Daryl held her, but didn't stop completely. Just then Glenn and the others came in and Alex sat down next to Kayla. Daryl looked at him for a moment, but refocused his attention on the baby. Beth handed him a bottle full of formula which Daryl began feeding the baby. "Come on." He said. "Come on." Kayla smiled at the sight with Daryl holding the baby, thinking it was the single sweetest things she's ever seen. "She got a name yet?" daryl asked Carl.

"No, not yet." He said. "I was thinking maybe Sophia? Carol, too. And Andrea, Amy, Jacqui, Patricia…or maybe…Lori…I don't know." Carl turned away and Kayla looked at him with sadness in her eyes. He has lost too much for being just a kid.

"Huh, you like that?" Daryl's voice said. "You like that? Huh Little Asskicker?" Kayla chuckled. "Right? That's a good name, right? Little Asskicker…you like that? You like that sweetheart?"

OOOOO

After Little Asskicker finally fell asleep, everyone turned in for the night even though Rick wasn't back yet. They agreed to go and look for him if he wasn't back in the morning, but until then they all decided to get some rest. Kayla was kicking her shoes off when Daryl sat up from the mattress to be level with her. "So what's the deal with Alex?" he asked. "Whadda ya mean?" Kayla asked as she pulled set her shoes to the side. "You just seem…comfortable with him." Daryl pointed out. "You know he doesn't have to stay in here right. We can find another place for him or-"

"Daryl." Kayla cut him off as she turned to face him. "It's fine. I can't just pretend he isn't here."

She laid back and closed her eyes as Daryl looked at her. "Don't give me that look Dixon." She said as she opened her eyes again. "Can you just please lay down with me and go to sleep? It's been a really long day." She said. Daryl laid down in his spot next to her and put an arm around her. She moved closer to him and closed her eyes again. "I'm glad you're safe." She whispered to him. "Same to you." He replied before placing a kiss on the top of her head and closing his eyes.
