Hinata's POV

It's been 3 days since Vanji had left my apartment. After we'd both blown up on each other, I figured she needed the space. I checked my notifications repeatedly throughout the day hoping I'd get some kind of news from her. But.. nothing.

I was packing my things getting ready to head out for my upcoming flight. MSBY was flying out for a match against Argentina and since I hadn't boarded with them I was going to need to fly out tonight to make it in time for practice.

Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing.

Yes!

I rushed over and pick it up.

"Hey babe! I so glad I-" I exclaimed.

"Umm.. Hinata? It's Daichi."

Crap... probably should've checked caller ID.

"Ohhhh.. uh.. sorry Daichi.. I was.. umm.. hey how's it going? Long time no talk," I rambled.

"No worries. I know you pros are busy," he chuckled, "Anyways uh- I know it's kind of out of the blue-"

I interjected, "No, no! I should've made a better effort to stay in touch!"

"Hinata,"

I shut my mouth instantly. His intimidating captain voice still had such an effect on me.

"Sorry.. it's just," he began, "I wish this call was under other circumstances."

"What do you mean?"

"Do you know Vanji Kageyama?" he spoke softly.

"Y-yeah, she's my.. well," I paused.

"Hinata she's.. in the hospital."

I froze, "S-she's.."

"I don't know the full details but one of her teammates from the volleyball club called us from a residence that was hosting a graduation party reporting that they'd found her unconscious and bleeding," Daichi explained.

My body was shaking.

Why didn't she tell me? Why was she all alone? Who would do something like this? Why wasn't I there?

"Hinata, she was raped.."

Kageyama's POV

My aunt had called me completely hysterical. She was in the back of an ambulance sobbing. I could barely put together what she was telling me. One of the third years had found Vanji unconscious during a graduation party and she was headed to the hospital.

I didn't even have much time to react. I was already calling my coach and team manager explaining I needed to be boarding a flight as soon as possible. They were completely understanding and soon I was on a flight home.

I stared out the window and could feel my world in pieces. I'd texted the Karasuno volleyball group to get a better idea of what had happened. Kyo was the one to find Vanji. The scene he described to me was horrific.

The poor kid was so guilt ridden. He had blamed himself for leaving her alone during the party. I begged him not to and thanked him for saving her when he did.

I felt tears prick my eyes. Vanji was always the calm, collected one growing up. She was the rock of our group. Always helping others.

I grit my teeth.

After landing, I rushed to the hospital Vanji was staying in. My aunt was the first to greet me.

I hugged her close, "Can I see her?"

"Tobio.." she sniffled drying her eyes, "I must warn you.. she's sensitive to touch now. Sudden contact causes her to cry out. She's so fearful of any human contact."

I winced and nodded sadly.

I made my way to her room and cautiously peeked my head into the doorway.

"Vanji," I whispered.

"Tobio?" I heard her voice speak up.

She looked so fragile. Her eyes looked so dull, her faint smile she flashed when she saw me. But it appeared so void of life. When I approached her, I saw her flinch slightly.

"Vanji, I can back off.." I offered.

"No!" she suddenly lurched off her bedside and caught my sleeve, holding onto it like a lifeline, "Please.. don't leave."

I kneeled by her bedside and pulled her close. She began sobbing uncontrollably. I held her tight.

"It hurts Tobio.. I can't..." she heaved.

"Don't.. don't you dare," I pleaded, "Don't let this bastard win.."

She clung to me and cried until her voice was hoarse and there was nothing else she could give. The next day was what truly scared me.

Before moving to Miyagi, Vanji and I had a lot of similarities. Her sport came first and foremost. Making friends and connections were especially difficult since she moved around so much. So, her demeanor always appeared standoffish and somewhat cold.

That was until Hinata. The way he was able to bond with others so quickly never ceased to amaze me, though, I would never admit it. When I saw the way he looked at Vanji, I knew. He would be the one to make her smile, truly. She opened up herself to him and soon after the others as well. I'd never seen her so happy.

But, that smile. The one that shone through anything and brought so much joy to the team had completely vanished. She always appeared on guard. Her lips were pursed into a pained frown. Her eyes an empty gaze.

Hinata's POV

I sped the whole way to the hospital and nearly rushed the registration desk. I apologized for startling the nursing staff and pleaded to know which room Vanji was in.

Once I got the information, I bolted towards to elevator. I impatiently stomped my foot on the flooring waiting for her floor. I quickly ran out the doors once they slid open and found her room. I read the door ID label to be sure it was hers. I took a deep breath and stepped in. I was expecting Vanji to be in the bed but instead was met with her mother.

"Oh! Hinata I'm sorry! You startled me." she smiled.

"No, no Mrs. Kageyama, it's my fault. I should've knocked first," I pleaded.

"No matter, it's really good to see you," she pulled me into a hug, "But, honey, aren't you supposed to be at your match? I saw a sports report we'd been watching that said MSBY was playing tomorrow."

"I called my team manager. I explained what had happened and they offered to extend my time off," I stated.

Just like her.. always worrying about others.

"Oh.. you have no idea how much it means to us how much you care for Vanji."

"How.. how is she?" I asked cautiously.

I saw the grin fade from her features.

"She's.."

Suddenly, I heard a commotion down the hallway and screaming. I saw Vanji's mother's eyes widen in horror as she bolted in the direction of the sound. I sped behind he but before I could reach the room she'd run into, two nurses blocked my way.

"Sir! I'm sorry! No one is allowed in but family!"

"But- Vanji!" I gasped.

The shrieks only grew louder. I caught a glimpse of the scene inside. They had her pinned to a bed, holding her steady with their arms and body weight.

"NO!!! NO NO NO!!" she wailed fighting against those holding her down.

I saw Kageyama frantically talking to Vanji begging her to calm down while holding her wrists. Her mother sitting beside her cupping her face pleading her to come back to reality.

I stood frozen. My sunshine, had completely burned out.

She was in so much pain. And there was nothing I could do to help her. If I hadn't let her walk out that day, she wouldn't be suffering. The Kageyama's wouldn't be watching Vanji fall to pieces. This was all my fault.

It felt like the walls were closing in.. everything was too loud. The lights, Vanji's cries..

Without even thinking, I ran. It wasn't until I reached the corner of the street outside I stopped. I panted and couldn't believe how stupid I'd been.

Why would she want to see me? It's my fault she was hurt, I couldn't protect her...

I knew what I needed to do.. I needed to let Vanji heal. And be free from me.
