Hey Everyone! I am almost done with season three! Only a few more episodes! Woo Hoo! And this is going to be a Daryl centric episode. I am going to right it with Kayla, too, but wanted to see how it would be if I wrote from Daryl's third person point of view so please review of what you think!

OOOOO

Daryl was leaning against the tree waiting up for Merle to finish taking a piss. He was trying to talk Merle into going to scavenge some houses or hook fish at a creek, but Merle shot everything down. "I think you're just trying to beat me back to that road, man." Merle assumed. "Get me over to that prison."

"We got shelter." Daryl explained. "Food…pot to piss in might not be a bad idea."

"For you maybe." Merle retorted. "Ain't gonna be no damn party for me."

"Everyone will get used to each other."

"They're all dead. Makes no difference."

"How can you be so sure?" Daryl questioned, his mind immediately going to Kayla. He remembered exactly what he told himself after the farm. He promised to keep her safe. And now he broke his own promise. Plus he left her without a second word when he told her he'd be back. "Right now, he's probably holding a house warming party." Merle said. breaking Daryl's thoughts. "Where he's gonna bury what's left of your pals. Let's hook some fish."

OOOOO

When Kayla didn't join the others for breakfast or talk about what was going on with the Governor, no one bothered her. Beth came to check on her and asked if she wanted anything, but she declined any offers. Alex left her earlier that morning to take watch and talk with Glenn which Kayla didn't mind. She eventually pulled herself out of her bed that she once shared with Daryl and made her way over to Maggie's cell. Ever since she and Glenn got back she has been distant and she and Glenn have been tense.

"Room for one more?" Kayla asked. Maggie nodded and lifted up the blanket for her to crawl in. Kayla did, and laid down next to Maggie. "Guys suck." Kayla breathed out.

"Agreed." Maggie replied.

Kayla let out a breath and closed her eyes. "I should get up and try not to think about it." she said. "I wouldn't disagree with you if you laid in bed with me all day." Maggie told her. Kayla looked at her. "I know. But I can't just sulk over Daryl forever. Bad shit happens and we deal with it…I mean have you looked outside?" Maggie smiled. "Yeah I have. And there's a spot here in bed if you wanna continue to sulk." She let Kaya know. Kayla smiled and got up. "See you later Maggie." With that much said, Kayla left the cell and went to join the others.

OOOOO

Back in the woods Daryl and Merle were walking towards the creek when Merle sparked up a conversation. "So who was the Chinese kid talking about?" Merle questioned. "Heard him say something about some girl named Kayla." Daryl stopped for a moment before continuing to walk. "She showed up on the highway when we were leaving Atlanta." Daryl explained. "Was on the farm with us and been with us ever since."

"Why'd Glenn feel the need to bring er' up in a match to keep you from walking away?" Merle asked.

"She and I got close." Was all Daryl said.

"Close as friends or as in I could've had a sister-in-law?"

"Don't matter."

"Ooh, did my little brother get some action while I was gone."

"I ain't talking about this."

Daryl marched ahead and told Merle they must have been near the Yellow Jacket River. "You know I may have lost my hand, but you lost your sense of direction little brother." Merle told Daryl. "We ain't gone anywhere near Yellow Jacket."

"Yeah, we'll see." Daryl retorted.

"Whadda ya wanna bet?"

"I'm not bettin' nothing. It's just a body of water…why' everything gotta be a competition with you?"

"Woah take an easy little brother. Just tryna have a little fun here. No need to get your little panties in a bundle."

Just then a cry echoed across the woods. "You hear that?" Daryl asked. "Yeah…wild animals gettin' wild." Merle answered.

"It's a baby." Daryl told him. Merle scoffed. "Oh come on. Why don't you piss in my ear and tell me it's raining, too." He snorted. "That there is the sound of a couple of 'coons making love sweet love, you know what I mean?"

Daryl rushed past Merle and towards the edge of the woods to look up and find people struggling against a large group of walkers. "Hey! Jump!" Merle yelled to them and followed with a laugh. Daryl looked at him and then rushed up to the bridge with Merle following behind. "What?" he questioned. "Hey man I ain't wasting my bullets on a couple of strangers who never cooked me a meal. That's my policy. You'd be wise to adapt, brother." Daryl just ignored him and rushed towards the bridge.

OOOOO

Back at the prison Kayla was up in the one walkway between cell blocks with Alex setting up barriers. It was quiet for a while before Alex spoke up. "Kayla," he said. She looked at him. "I'm sorry. What he did was wrong. And I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better. But I don't think there's a section in the handbook of how to help your daughter deal with her boyfriend's departure in the apocalypse." Kayla chuckled. "See there's that smile." Alex pointed out. "Just keep you head up babygirl. I'm gonna head down and get more metal sheets."

"Okay." Kayla said as Alex disappeared into the stairwell. She put up a few more small barriers that you could duck behind when she saw the others out in the courtyard. She smiled when she saw Axel and Carol and then Alex came into her line of vision. He was walking towards the pile of scrap metal when a gunshot rang out. Then Alex fell to the ground and blood began to pool around him. "DAD!" Kayla screamed. Bullets began to hit around where she was and she quick ran inside and downstairs. She grabbed her gun and sprinted over to her dad. She saw it was his shoulder bleeding.

"Oh thank God." She said as she helped him up. As she turned around with him she saw Axel go down. Kayla ducked and led Alex over to cover when a shot went out and a bullet hit her in the leg. She instantly collapsed, but Alex caught her. "Come on." He said dragging her to cover.

Once behind a wall, Kayla sat down with her back against the wall. She looked and saw she got hit in her left thigh and there wasn't an exit wound which meant the bullet was lodged in her leg. "Let me see your shoulder." Kayla said. Alex pulled his shirt to the side and let Kayla see and she was relieved to see the bullet went straight through and it was only a little more than a flesh wound. "You should eb fine, just need some stitches." Kayla told him of the gunfire.

"What about you?" he asked.

"Someone is gonna have to dig a bullet out of my leg." Kayla replied as she put pressure on where she was bleeding when the gunshots stopped. Both Alex and Kayla looked at the field and heard the sound of a car. Then a van came breaking through the front gates and stopped in the middle of the field. A few moments passed before the back gate dropped and almost a dozen walkers spilled out. Kayla gasped and watched as Glenn returned and Michonne sliced her way through the walkers. Alex waited until the trucks outside the fences drove off before helping Kayla up and helping her over to the others, an arm around her waist for support and one of hers around his shoulders. Kayla looked out and saw Rick still outside the fences along with two other people, one of them she recognized as Daryl causing anger to arise in her.

OOOOO

When Daryl, Rick, and Merle got back into the cell block, Daryl immediately noticed the blood trail on the floor. He rushed into where the cells were and found Alex sitting Kayla down on the bed as Hershel took out the medical supplies. Then he noticed her bleeding leg and right away knew she got shot. He went to step in, but Kayla objected. "Get out." She said. "Just get out." Daryl looked at her with sad eyes. "Kayla can ex-" he began, but she cut him off. "I don't wanna hear it, Daryl. I really don't. So just get out."

"Daryl." Alex said sternly. Daryl looked at him with cold eyes before turning and leaving the block, passing Rick on his way to stand by the now locked off cell area to keep Merle locked in the eating area. He set his crossbow and backpack down as he slid to the floor and listened to Kayla tell Hershel and Maggie what to do to get the bullet. They located where the bullet was she told them to make an incision and get the bullet out. She had Maggie put a cloth in her mouth because in was going to be excruciating for Kayla and she was going to scream. Maggie did as she said and Hershel waited a few moments before starting the process.

Despite the cloth in her mouth, Daryl could heat Kayla's pain filled scream. It lasted for a while until Hershel finished and Kayla passed out from how painful it was, leaving Daryl with tears in his eyes as he picked his head up. Merle noticed this and looked at his brother in surprise, but didn't say anything. He watched as his brother ran a hand through his hair and took a fistful of hair behind his head. Right there Merle knew Kayla was more than just some girl he was in a group with and more than just some girl he was with. He knew it was more than that.
