For a while, Kayla sat with Jonathan and the other kids in the one cell block while Daryl talked with Rick and the bodies were cleared from outside. She was feeling better and knew that after today, she would probably be able to get back into her routine of things. But it was nice to just be relaxing at the moment. The cell block was quiet overall except for the soft voices of the kids and Kayla was holding baby Judith in her arms. The baby was awake, but dozing off in the warmth and comfort of Kayla's arms. The sight of the baby made Kayla wonder if she would have been a good mother if the world didn't end. She didn't think of kids a lot before, hell she barely dated before the world went to shit. She and Angela, her roommate, best friend, and co-worker, occasionally went on double dates together but nothing serious came out of it. The thought of having her own baby was enough to make a small smile appear on her face.

As Kayla held Judith, Jonathan talked with Lizzie and Mika about kid things. Looking at all three of them together reminded Kayla that they were all orphans with no blood family left in this world. Her smile faded, but then she remembered that now, everyone had a new family. And in Kayla's case, she was fortunate. She had Daryl, the prison residents, and Rick and the other group members that were around before the prison became a sanctuary. She also had built a relationship with her father which is something she never imagined herself doing until a few months ago.

About an hour passed since Kayla came into the Cell Block with Jonathan when there was a loud, booming sound from outside that seemed to shake the walls. Kayla instinctively covered Judith more with her body and looked at the kids. "Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah." The three answered in usion.

Kayla stood up and put Judith in her crib. "Kayla what was that?" Lizzie asked.

"I'm not sure sweetie." Kayla answered truthfully. "I'm gonna go find out. You guys stay here with Judith."

"You're leaving us?" Mika questioned.

Kayla knelt down in front of her. "I'll be right back, okay?" she reassured Mika. The girl nodded and Kayla then rushed outside.

Once she was outside, Kayla ran towards the gate just as Daryl, Tyreese and Rick did. Kayla saw Bob, Sasha, Maggie, Alex, and Beth behind the one wall looking at something, but Kayla couldn't get a good visual from her position. She ran towards them and Daryl reached out to her. "Are you alright?" he asked. Kayla took his hand and nodded. They rushed up to the gate and looked out past the field towards the fence when Kayla saw it. There were cars lined up in front of the one gate with a huge tank right in the center. "Rick!" a voice called out. Kayla's stomach dropped. "Come down here. We need to talk." She knew that voice. It was the Governor. And he was here, with a tank, and more people. Their nightmare had just become a reality.

Kayla tightened her hand around that was interlocked with Daryl's and put her other hand on his arm, wrapping her hand around his bicep. She was scared…terrified in fact and right now she didn't want to be farther than a foot away from Daryl.

"It's not up to me!" Rick yelled to the Governor. "There's a council now! They run this place."

"Is Hershel on the council?" The Governor asked. On that cue, one of his people pulled Hershel out of the car next to them. Maggie covered her mouth in shock. "What about Michonne? Is she on the council too?" Another person pulled Michonne out of the car and brought her over to where Hershel was. The two of them now were kneeling on the ground in front of the tank. "I don't make decisions anymore!" Rick told the Governor.

"You're making the decisions today Rick." The Governor replied. "Come down here and let's have that talk."

After a few conflicted moments, Rick looked at Daryl who gave him a nod, silently telling him to go. Rick turned to Carl and put a hand on his son's shoulder and shared a moment with him while Kayla and Daryl opened the gate so he could walk down. Kayla gave Rick a quick glance and put a hand on his shoulder as he walked by her. She didn't have to say anything, Rick already knew.

Kayla closed up the gate while Daryl walked over to the others. "We can't take em' all on." He said. Go through the admin building through the woods like were planned. We ain't got the numbers no more. When was the last time someone checked the stash on the bus?"

"The day before we hit the big spot." Sasha told him. "If we were low on rations then, we're lower now."

"We'll manage. Things go South everyone head for that bus. Let everyone know."

"What if everyone doesn't know where to go when things go South?" Tyreese questioned. "How long do we wait?"

"As long as we can."

Alex stepped closer to his daughter as Daryl went over to get the barrel of guns they had by the gate. He wheeled the thing of guns closer to the others and began passing them out. Kayla took the automatic weapon from Daryl and checked the rounds in it. "I'm gonna go tell the kids to get to the bus." Kayla whispered to Alex. He looked at her. "I'll be back in a minute. If something happens and I don't get on the bus, get out of here and I will find you."

Before Alex could respond, Kayla walked back to the cell block where she left the kids and told them they had to leave. "What's going on?" Lizzie asked.

"I'll explain later, but we have to get you and everyone else on the bus to leave." Kayla told the three kids while picking Judith up out of her crib and placing her in the car carrier. She fastened the seatbelt on it and then picked up the diaper bag, shoving diapers and formula into it. She handed the bag to Jonathan and the baby carrier to Lizzie. "You guys go with the other kids and get on the bus with the adults." Kaya instructed them. "You go straight there and don't stop for anything, do you understand me?"

"Are you coming with us?" Jonathan asked her.

"I have to go help the others, but I will be on the bus." Kayla assured him with a forced smile. "But you get on that bus, alright?"

Kayla told them to go out the side door and then rushed back outside to where she left her dad and the others. Daryl was off to the one side fence with Carl and she was about to go over there when Alex caught her arm. She looked at him and saw the plead in his eyes. She stood next to him and looked out at tank where the Governor was just jumping down off of. Someone handed him a sword, Michonne's Katana to be exact, and held it to Hershel's neck. Kayla covered her mouth to stifle a gasp. Maggie let out a cry and Beth consoled her. Why? Why did this have to happen?

Minutes passed and they felt like hours for Kayla. Hershel was down there on his knees with a blade to his throat. The man who saved Carl's life and nearly lost his life trying to make the prison a safe place for the group and his daughters. The man who risked his life to help others. He knew what he was risking, but he also knew what he was risking it for.

When the Governor slowly moved the sword away from Hershel, Kayla felt a tug at her heart. What did Rick say? She couldn't hear from this distance, but whatever it was, it seemed to have an impact on the Governor. Her hand dropped from her mouth down to her side and watched in fear and hope as the sword moved farther and farther from Hershel. Then in a blink of an eye, a split second, the Governor swung the sword towards Hershel's neck, cutting his head halfway off his neck.
