Final chapter until season five everyone

The next day was spent trying to find more food. Between the group of five there was little food from what Kayla gave to the others that she had in her bag and they only caught a small rabbit in the snares they set out in the morning. Later on they ran into some walkers at one of the train stops and had to flee the scene pretty quick. Carl gave Kayla the silencer for her gun which allowed her to give her bat to Jonathan so he had better protection for himself. For nine years old the kid was a decent size so he was able to manage the size of the bat. Once they had the opportunity she would teach him how to shoot, but for the time being whenever there was a walker problem, Carl and Jonathan stayed close while Kayla, Michonne, and Rick handled the walkers unless there were too many for three people. Kayla couldn't watch Jonathan all the time, which is why she was grateful to have the others with her again.

After fleeing the train stop, the group walked down one of the back roads hoping to find some houses or a store. During the walk, Rick noticed Kayla's silence. Being that she was always a talkative person, he was a bit worried and curious on the silence. He knew she just lost Alex and was separated from Daryl and that was probably what it was, but she hadn't said more than two words since their reunion.

The group found an old car on the road and figured they would camp there for the night. "I'll scout around and see if anything is nearby." Kayla offered. "I'll come with." Rick offered. "Michonne you stay with the boys."

"No problem." Michonne agreed.

"Jonathan you listen to whatever she says." Kayla told Jonathan.

"I will." The young boy responded. After that, Rick and Kayla walked into the woods.

For the first few minutes of looking around, there was a silence between Rick and Kayla before Rick spoke up. "Wanna tell me what's on your mind?" he asked. Kayla looked at him and let out a breath. "I miss my dad." She admitted. "And Daryl. And Glenn and Maggie and Beth."

"Me too." Rick replied. "We'll find them."

"After the prison, I drove around with my dad and Jonathan to where Daryl and Michonne searched before and it was just a dead end. All the places on the backways those two found were crawling with walkers. Then we saw the sign for Terminus. I just keep getting my hopes up. I thought we'd find Daryl and we didn't. I thought we'd make it to Terminus and Alex got bit. I just miss the prison…"

"We all do." Rick replied. "And Daryl is still alive. He's a tough son of a bitch and extremely difficult to kill."

Kayla chuckled as she and Rick turned around to head back to the road. "Finding you…I never thought I would." She said.

"Michonne found Carl and me at a house. Came up to the front door of the house we were in an knocked. Then I saw you on the tracks…I never thought I'd be that fortunate."

Kayla and Rick got back to the road and Carl was setting up the seats in the car for him and Jonathan to sleep in. He was giving the nine year old some survival tips and Kayla smiled at the sight. Michonne had gathered some small pieces of firewood at the treeline and was setting up a small fire. "Gotta cook that rabbit before it goes bad." she said.

That night the five ate rabbit and the last of the energy bars. It wasn't much, but Terminus was only a day's journey away now and even if it wasn't the real deal, there were bound to be a few stores or houses nearby.

Rick and Michonne sat out by the fire after eating and Kayla sat in the car with Carl and Jonathan, Carl lying in the passenger seat and Jonathan in the back with his head in Kayla's lap. "Could you tell me a story?" Jonathan asked.

"You up for a story, Carl?" Kayla said.

"Is it a happy one?" he replied.

"Of course."

"If you want it to be."

"Then yes. Happy story."

Kayla smiled and stroked Jonathan's hair. "Okay." she began. "There once was a little ant colony where a very hard-working and nice inventor ant was always causing problems in the colony. He never meant to make all the other ants' blood pressure sky rocket, but he was only trying to be helpful."

"Isn't this the same thing as A Bug's Life?" Carl questioned.

"Well excuse me for being fresh out of bedtime stories." Kayla defended with a chuckle. Carl laughed and so did Jonathan. "I remember kids in the pediatric ward would have stacks of these books filled with stories that they would have their parents read over and over again." Kayla laughed. The car was filled with soft laughter and for a moment, Kayla wasn't thinking about Daryl or Alex or Terminus. She was listening to the laughter of the two young boys.

The moment was short lived when Kayla looked out the front windshield and saw a man grey hair and beard standing behind Rick with a gun on him and another man with one on Michonne. She immediately reached for her gun when two more men came out from the trees with automatic weapons raised and one more slammed his hand on the window next to her. The three jumped in surprise and the man slammed a knife on the glass.

The man opened the door and grabbed Kayla, pulling her out of the vehicle and throwing her onto the ground. He took her gun and tossed it to the side before picking her up by her hair and throwing her in front of Rick and Michonne. She landed on her stomach, but she pulled herself to the sitting position and was grabbed by one of the men standing off to the side. He put the gun to her head and had a tight grip around her mid-section.

"Shit and I was thinking of turning in for the night on New Year's Eve." The man who had his gun on Rick said. "Now who's gonna count down the ball dropper with me, huh? Ten Mississippi, nine Mississippi, eight Mississippi…"

Then she heard his voice. His voice. "Joe!" he said. Kayla's heart began going a thousand miles a minute as she turned her head and saw him. It was Daryl. It was Daryl. Tears filled her eyes as she drank in the sight of him. He was right there, a few feet away from her. His eyes were glued to her and the sight of someone in the sorry excuse for a group touching his wife and pointing a gun at her head. "Hold up…" Daryl told Joe as he looked back at Rick and Michonne.

"You're stopping me at eight, Daryl." Joe told Daryl.

"Just hold up."

"This is the guy who killed Lou so we have nothing to talk about." The man holding Kayla said.

"The thing about nowadays is we got nothing but time. Speak your peace, Daryl." Joe retorted.

"These people… you're gonna let them go." Daryl told Joe, looking back at Kayla again. All he wanted was to punch the guy who had his hands on her and pull her into his arms and never let go. But Rick and Michonne had guns to their heads, too and he had to save all of them one way or another. "These are good people."

"I think Lou would disagree with you on that." Joe replied. "All of course I have to speak for him because your friend here strangled him in a bathroom."

"You want blood." Daryl pointed out as he set his crossbow down. "I get it…take it from me man."

"Daryl don't!" Kayla cried as she fought against the man's grip, but he held her tighter. Daryl turned around to look at Kayla. "No you don't there sweetie." He said lowly as he ran a hand up and gripped her chest. She fought against his grip, but he was too strong.

"We got ourselves a fighter here." he growled in her ear. "I like it."

"Let her go." Daryl warned the man dangerously before turning back to Joe. "All of them."

"This man killed our friend. And you say he's good people. See that right there…that's a lie." Joe said. "It's a lie!"

The man holding onto Kayla threw her aside as the other man bashed the butt of his gun in on Daryl's stomach. "Daryl!" Kayla screamed as the two men drug him aside towards the car. "Teach him fellas, teach him all the way!" Joe taunted.

Kayla got up and ran over to them and tried pulling them off of him, but ended up getting an elbow to the face. She fell back onto the ground and then felt herself being picked up again. He pinned her arms behind her back and forced her to watch as Daryl was beat by the other man. "You watching sweetheart?" the man asked as he held her in a painful grip. The other man punched Daryl in the face and threw him into the car, causing him to fall to the hard ground. Kayla fought against the grip when Carl and Jonathan were pulled out of the car by the fifth man.

"Let them go!" Kayla begged. Then man holding her secured one arm tightly around her waist and used the other to unzip her jacket. Oh no…please no… she thought. His large hand slipped under her shirt and up to her chest. "Man you're going to be a lot of fun…" he hissed. She closed her eyes in fear when a gunshot went off. Looking over, she saw Joe clutching his nose as Rick stood up. Rick threw a punch across the piece of shit's face, but the man swung back and knocked Rick to the ground.

Daryl was on the ground and had another punch sent across his face when Kayla felt the man's hand leave her shirt. Looking down, she saw he had a knife on his waistband. She could grab it. She just had to be quick and wait for the right moment. That moment was when Rick sunk his teeth into Joe's jugular and literally rip his throat out. The second it happened, Kayla brought her elbow up and hit the man in the face before grabbing his knife. He stumbled back and she kicked him onto his ass before walking over and jamming the knife into his chest. She heard another gunshot and then another so by the time she stood up there was one man left alive. Turning around she saw Daryl leaning against the car as he stood and she rushed over to him. He took all but two steps from the car before she was in his arms. He held her as tight as his arms allowed him and buried his face in the crook of her neck.

Kayla's arms were tight around his torso and her face was hidden in his chest. "Daryl…" she cried, tears running down her cheeks. "It's okay…" he told her. "You're okay…I'm here, I'm here, I'm here…" She pulled back and looked at him, putting her hands on the sides of his face and then sliding them to the hair on the back of his head. "You're alive…" she said as she pulled him closer. "So are you." He replied.

Not even thinking about it, Kayla closed the distance between them and pressed her mouth to his. He returned the kiss immediately, clutching her jacket and pulling her even closer into his frame. After the prison and after losing Beth, Daryl really lost hope of ever finding her. But she was alive and in his arms where she belonged.

OOOOO

That night Kayla fell asleep curled up next to Daryl by the car. Once she was in a deep enough sleep he picked her up bridal style and put her in the car so she'd be more comfortable. Carl was asleep in Michonne's lap and Jonathan was in the very back row of seats fast asleep. Daryl pulled a blanket over her and kissed her head. He had her back.

The following morning the group followed the train tracks, Rick and Michonne leading the way with Carl and Jonathan in the middle and Daryl and Kayla in the back. Daryl had his arm around her shoulders and she had one arm hook around his waist. Her head was rested on his shoulder for a bit and he pressed his lips to her hair. "You need a shower…" he teased. Kayla chuckled. "Says you." She replied as she picked her head up to look at him. He had a black eye and a few cuts on his face, but other than that he wasn't too banged up. He really could take a beating. She leaned up and kissed his face, right on the marks he got from last night. "I love you…" he said. She smiled. "I love you more." Kayla kissed him gently before resting her head on his shoulder again.

They arrived at Terminus a little but before sundown and instead of following the train tracks directly to it, they found the fence that wrapped around it and entered through the side. Once they looked around it, they climbed over it with Kayla going last and Daryl helping her down on the other side. They worked their way through the area and found the entrance to a building where an older woman was broadcasting a radio message. She was telling people how to find Terminus.

Once they took a quick glance around, Rick made their presence known. "Hello." He said. "Hello." The other people who were on the other side of the room making posters and directions to the place turned to face them.

"Well I bet Albert is on perimeter watch." one of the younger men said as he tossed a pencil onto the desk and walked over. "You hear to rob us?"

"No." Rick answered. "We wanted to see you before you saw us."

"Makes sense. Normally we do this where the tracks meet…Welcome to Terminus. I'm Garrett. Looks like you've been on the road a good bit."

"We have. I'm Rick. That's Carl, Daryl, Kayla, Jonathan, and Michonne."

Garrett gave everyone a wave. "You're nervous I get it, we were all the same way. We came here for sanctuary. Is that what you're here for?"

"Yes."

"Good. You found it. Hey Alex! This isn't as pretty as the front, we got nothing to hide but the welcome wagon is a whole lot nicer." Another man who Kayla presumed was Alex approached. She tensed at the use of her father's name. "Alex can answer a few questions, but first we need to see everybody's weapons…if you could just lay them down in front of you."

Rick looked at the others before agreeing as he unholstered his gun and laid it down. Kayla took her gun out and laid in on the floor a long with her knife. Once everyone's weapons were on the floor the five were patted down, Daryl keeping an eye on Kayla after what happened last night.

After the pat down they had their weapons returned to them and they were guided outside where several people were eating and an older woman was cooking meat on a grill. Daryl put his arm around Kayla again protectively as they walked with Jonathan standing close to the two. Once outside, Kayla looked around and immediately noticed a woman wearing a poncho. Daryl's poncho. Looking back at the grill, she saw Rick's hard glare. Her hand immediately went to her holster which was the right thing to do because Rick whacked the plate out of Terminus Alex's hands and put a gun to his head as he held a watch up. The watch that Hershel gave Glenn. Kayla immediately raised her gun and Daryl raised his crossbow, Carl following the crowd and pulling out his gun.

"Where the hell you get this watch?" Rick demanded as Kayla took in her surroundings. There was a sniper on the roof and everyone sitting at the tables had a gun raised at this point. They should have known. For a place that "takes in everyone" there were barely any people around.

Rick asked again where Alex got the watch and he said he got it off a dead walker. "What about the riot gear? That poncho?" Rick questioned.

"Got the riot gear off a dead cop." A voice said. It was Garrett ."Got the poncho off a clothes line…Rick what do you want?"

"Where are our people?"

"You didn't answer the question."

After Garrett said that, the gunfire began to go off. Kayla grabbed Jonathan and pulled him behind her as she fired off a few rounds, taking out several Terminus residents very easily. Daryl grabbed her arm and pulled her with him, her hand grabbing Jonathan in the process. They ran towards the exit, but the snipers on the roofs were boxing them in by firing at the ground in front of them. Kayla raised her gun and shot two snipers as they ran which helped them out, but it wasn't enough. They ran another direction, but the snipers did the same thing again and again to lead them where they wanted them to go which was the fence they entered at. At the fence, there were Terminus guards lined up with guns.

The group stopped dead in their tracks and Daryl pulled Kayla close to him. He refused to lose her again. "Drop your weapons now!" Garrett shouted. After a few moments the group laid their weapons on the ground. "Ring leader to your left. The train car, go." Garrett ordered. "You do what we say and the boy goes with you or he dies and you end up in there anyway."

Rick turned and walked towards the train car. "Now the archer." Kayla looked at Daryl. She nodded. "Go." She whispered. "If you want her to live I suggest you do what we say." Daryl shot Garrett a look before placing a kiss on Kayla's forehead and following after Rick. "Now the Samurai." Michonne followed after Daryl. "Now the sharp shooter." Kayla looked at Jonathan and Carl before walking towards the train car. "Stand at the door. Ring Leader, Archer, Samurai, Sharp Shooter, in that order." Daryl turned and watched as Kayla approached cautiously before taking her place behind Michonne. "Go kids." Carl and Jonathan walked towards the train cars slowly, Jonathan looking at Kayla for help, but there was nothing she could do.

"Ring Leader open the door and go inside."

"I'll go in with my son." Rick replied.

"Don't make us kill him now."

Rick stepped up and opened the door, stepping inside. Daryl followed and then Michonne and Kayla. Daryl pulled Kayla into his chest as soon as she was inside and he wrapped his arms around her. She hugged him back when Carl and Jonathan stepped in. Kayla pulled away from Daryl and reached for Jonathan who rushed into her arms. She held him to her when she saw other people coming out of the shadows…it was Glenna and Maggie and some unfamiliar faces. "Rick?" Glenn said.

"You're here." Kayla replied.

"They're our friends." Maggie told them when they saw the looks on their faces when they saw the new people. "They helped save us."

"Now their friends of ours." Daryl said as he slipped an arm around Kayla's waist.

"Forever how long that'll be." The man with red hair interjected.

"No…" Rick said. "When they find out they're gonna feel stupid."

"Find out what?"

A short silence fell before Rick answered. "They're screwing with the wrong people."
