Ever since he was young, Sapnap was told about soulmates.
He would sit in wonder as his mother spun tales of magic and beauty, explaining how everyone would have a soulmate
"What's it feel like when you meet them mama?" Sapnap asks, legs crossed and eyes wide with wonder as his mother explains to him for probably the thousandth time what soulmates are and how she met hers.
"It's hard to explain, darling, but you'll know when you meet them," she explains kindly, also for the thousandth time.
Sapnap nods, face scrunched as he tries to understand what his mother means.
He looks at his own wrist, no words written along it and frowns.
"What if I don't have a soulmate?"
His mother looks at his wrist and explains that he's too young for the words to appear yet and he nods once again, getting distracted by his father walking in. He pulls on his hand, wanting to see the pretty cursive writing on his father's wrist, finding it the most beautiful thing in the world.
At 20 years old, Sapnap had long stopped believing he'd find a soulmate.
When he turned 10 and didn't receive any words, his heart had been crushed. He distinctly remembered his mother trying to explain to him that it was possible that his soulmate hadn't been born yet and that 10 years wasn't too big an age difference.
Now, with no words on his wrist, he just believes he doesn't have a soulmate. Even if they were born now, 10 years might not be too big a difference, but 20 surely is.
Sapnap wasn't too beat up about it now after having searched it up, and giving up. There were a few cases of people not having soulmates, those who were aromantic, but he found that didn't apply to him and was unsure why he didn't have any marks.
He's genuinely happy for his friends when they find theirs, but occasionally a spike of jealousy will flood through him, especially when it comes to Karl and Quackity.
Karl and Quackity have each other, which he is happy for them of course, but they both share another soulmate, the second set of words on their wrist matching.
Sapnap finds it incredibly unfair that, not only have they met in person when that's all he's been trying to do for a while, they have two soulmates while he was unfortunate enough not to have even one.
He was feeling a little jealous when he landed in North Carolina, the two of them meeting him at the airport since he was going to be staying at their house for the duration of his stay, so he didn't really say a word to them, merely hugging them and falling asleep in the car and then in his bed once he gets to the house.
His second day is a lot more eventful with him participating in Mr. Beast's Tag game for $100,000. The entirety of his day was devoted to asking Mr. Beast questions about how the challenge would go and then proceeding to run from the crew as they searched for him.
He was so focused on the tag game, his mind wasn't anywhere near the topic of soulmates, especially when the cameramen had been so close to him and Jimmy had nearly found him.
If it hadn't been for Karl being such a dork, Sapnap would have lost.
In the end, he was incredibly grateful to have been invited to participate, especially when he won and was able to surprise Dream with the money, planning on spoiling his housemate, and Patches of course, especially since he had no one else to spend it on.
After the recording is over, Sapnap, a lot more energized than he had been the day prior, runs over to Karl and Quackity, two of his best friends, and hugs them, all of them cheering excitedly.
He might stay in North Caroline longer now that he can buy a plane ticket back whenever and he doesn't really have any plans anytime soon.
Karl and Quackity clap him on the back in congratulations and Sapnap can only shake his head, a large grin on his face.
"My god, you two are the biggest of idiots."
Both boys immediately stop chanting his name and Sapnap's heart sinks.
Did he say something wrong? Did he offend one of them? Were they mad at him for something?
Just as he's about to ask why they are acting so strange, they both roll up their sleeves, the massive hoodies making it a little difficult and what he sees causes his breath to hitch.
Scrawled along both of their wrists are the words he'd just said.
"That's not possible though," he murmurs.
"Why not?" Karl asks, almost sounding offended.
"Because I don't have a soulmate," Sapnap mutters.
"Doesn't every-" Quackity starts.
"No. I-I never have and I've always been so incredibly jealous because you've both have two and I always thought it incredibly unfair because I don't have one," Sapnap starts, rolling his sleeve up to show them his wrists, completely blank and confirming that even after the odd tingle and similar handwritten words, these two weren't his soulmates.
"That is weird," Karl starts, "But you did feel that right?"
"The weird tingle, like electricity?"
"Yeah. That what it felt like when Karl and I first met," Quackity explained.
"It's the mark of a soulmate," Karl said.
"But how does that make any sense?" he asked, completely confused.
"Because you don't always need a mark to tell you that someone is supposed to be with you for the rest of your life," Karl started.
"But,"
"Look. Chris is married, right? He didn't have words when he met his wife. She had his words in his handwriting and he had nothing. When they got together, over time, the words started to form and it turned out that his wrist wasn't the first thing she'd ever said to him, but the first meaningful thing she'd ever said.
"These things can vary from person to person. Not everyone is the same, so what's to say that soulmarks will be the same for everyone?" Karl explains.
"The only thing that matters is that you belong with us. I don't care if the words never appear to prove it. I love you, Sapnap, and I would be the happiest man alive, if you'd join Karl and I." Quackity explains, uncharacteristically cheesy.
"I'd be the happiest man alive," Karl interjected before Sapnap could even get a word out.
Sapnap watched the two bicker back and forth and decided that he didn't care either, if the words never showed up. These two idiots would be the best thing to ever happen to him and he found that it really didn't matter if they were truly his soulmates or not, they were going to be his.
