When Kayla began to wake up, it seemed to happen all at once. As the consciousness came to her, her head was foggy until everything came back to her. Daryl was gone. The thought made her jump a little, wanting to go out and look for him as soon as she could to bring him back. He could be hurt or in trouble…or worse. The thought was enough to make her head hurt. A life without Daryl would be so incredibly difficult. After all the time that's gone by, imagining the days without him was hard to contemplate. His smart comments, flushed red cheeks wen he'd get embarrassed, tough exterior and soft interior…he was irreplaceable.

She went to sit up with a jolt, but a hand kept her to the floor and another covered her mouth. Her eyes adjusted and she saw Angela sitting right next to her, fear filling her irises. "Stay quiet." she mouthed to Kayla whom nodded in response, completely confused at what was going on. That was until she heard a very familiar voice. One that made her ice run cold and heart fall to her stomach.

"I guess you know we're here." the voice said. Garrett.

Sitting up, Kayla looked around and saw Gabriel sitting in the corner clutching a crucifix while Carl stood at the door with his gun raised. Eugene and Rosita were sitting by the window with one another as Tyreese sat with Bob. One look at Bob and Kayla's whole body froze. He was covered in sweat with a blanket over the lower half of his body and there was blood covering the back of his neck. Did he get bit? Has she been out for hours? Days? What was going on?

Judith was lying in a basket by Carl with Jonathan next to her, making sure she didn't start to fuss. Angela helped Kayla sit up as Garret spoke again, listing the people who were still in the church that led to Kayla wondering where the others were. How long was she out?

"Carl…Judith…" Garret went on. "Kayla…John. And I am really hurt, Angela. We took you in and this is how you repay us. By joining the enemy. The ones who murdered the majority of us."

The second it left Garret's mouth, all eyes were on Kayla and Angela. Anger and shock were present in everyone's eyes, but they all knew it wasn't the time or place to react to the new information. As Kayla's eyes went to Angela, she saw her best friend with her eyes closed and tears streaming down her cheeks. It was clear that Angela was as terrified of them as the rest were. Kayla was sure Angela was telling the truth before, but now it was even more clear that Angela didn't want to be at Terminus at all.

"Rick and the others walked out…with a lot of your guns." Garret continued, causing everyone to look away from Kayla and Angela and back at the door. Rick and the others left? Why? What the actual shit was going on?

Garret continued his taunting, telling the group members to just come out while they could. The sound of a shotgun being cocked made Kayla's heart start beating like a drum in her chest. She didn't want to die. Not now, not like this. She didn't endure and survive everything she had up until this point to die at the hands of a stupid cannibal with no concept of what a decent haircut was.

As the footsteps approached the only door blocking the Terminus people from the group, Kayla felt her hands begin to shake with no way to stop it. Her gun was still holstered on her hip, but they were outgunned and most likely outnumbered in this situation. And Kayla wasn't about to make any stupid decisions. Sure she may have been able to take out one of them, two if she was lucky, but the odds weren't in her and the groups' favor at all.

Right when she thought the situation couldn't get any more worse, the sound of a wailing baby echoed through the room. Kayla immediately looked in the direction of Judith where Johnathan and Carl were making quick work of settling her down. The footsteps approached again and Kayla pulled her knees into her chest as Angela's hands gripped her arm in a tight hold. The two of them watched the door as the footsteps stopped, Garret's voice making them more and more terrified with every syllable. Was this really going to be the end? Would Kayla really die before knowing what happened to Daryl? Where was Rick? And Glenn and Maggie?

Then two silenced shots rang through the air followed by a third. That's when Kayla could make out Rick's voice telling the Terminus people to lower their guns. His voice, one that Kayla had come to know so well since they've met, sounded absolutely frightening. She could make out the sounds of footsteps entering the church and guns being set on the floor. She guessed the footsteps belonged to the others of her group. Kayla did her best to make-out Garret's words as he spoke to Rick, telling him Terminus was once a place of sanctuary that saved people but how it ended a long time ago.

"You let us go and we will never cross paths again… I promise." Garret told Rick.

Part of Kayla believed Garret, but the other part wanted to see him and the rest of his clan punished for what they did. Not just to her group, but all the other innocent people they murdered and made a meal out of. This kind of world created the worst of good people. The world before had murders and rapists, but after the turn the best kind of people became evil. In the world before, Garret probably led a normal life with a normal job. He might have had a girlfriend and watched football on Sundays with his brother. But this world turned him into something awful and now he was going to suffer the repercussions

Rick heard none of Garret and all Kayla could hear was, "Besides…I already made you a promise." Before the screaming and sounds of killing filled the church. The screams were silenced quickly with the fatal blows of blades and the stocks of guns, causing Kayla to first cringe at the sounds but feel relieved that with the deaths, her groups would be safe.

Kayla slowly pulled Angela up with her, holding her friend's hand and leading her outside of the office as the rest of the group left the office. It was a blood bath in the church, dead bodies with bashed in heads and slashed torsos on the ground. It looked like Carrie's prom. Kayla kept Angela by her side as the group crowded together in the area, all heads turning to the two women.

"You." Rick said in a dangerously low growl his eyes landed on Angela.

"Rick!" Kayla said sternly. "Listen to me."

"There's nothing you can say. She probably was the one who led them to us!"

Rick raised his gun at Angela who was still hidden behind Kayla.

"God damn it Rick put your gun down and listen to me!"

Rick took his eyes off of Angela and looked at Kayla. "She wasn't with them." Kayla said. "Was she at Terminus? Yes. Was she a prisoner? No, but they found her. They found her half dead a few miles from Terminus and they saved her. She was planning getting out of there before she was put in the same spot we were."

"And you think because she told you that it's the truth?" Rick questioned, his gun still raised.

"Yes."

Kayla felt Angela shaking behind her, but Kayla did not let her stance falter once. She wasn't going to let Angela die. "I believe her because she was as terrified of these people as we were when they walked into this building. You kill her, you kill me Rick."

Everyone was watching the situation unfold, waiting to see what Rick did. He and Kayla were met in an intense stare down, but Rick's sheet of red finally began coming down from his line of vision so he could finally see clearly. He saw the desperation in Kayla's eyes as she defended her friend who had a look of terror on her face.

"It's the truth, Rick." Angela managed to stutter out. "I promise…I wouldn't lie about this… I-I didn't do the things they did…they just gave me a roof over my head I swear to God. And I would never put your family in danger. I swear…I swear."

The next moments were the most suspenseful of Kayla's life, but after Rick holstered his gun she was able to take a breath again. Her hold on Angela loosened when she saw Rick approach her and Angela. "If you try anything, ever." Rick warned Angela. "I will kill you without a second thought." He turned his head to Kayla. "And you." he hissed. "I didn't take you as a liar."

"We were going to tell you." Kayla replied.

"When?"

"You accepted Tara who was on the other side of the fence when the Governor attacked the prison. You were able to do that because you knew she didn't want to be there. Angela didn't want to be at Terminus the same way Tara didn't want to be with the Governor."

Rick finally backed off upon hearing that, allowing Kayla to really breathe this time. She looked around and saw some looking at her with sympathy like Maggie and Tyreese, but most of the looks were angry. There was fury in Sasha's irises and Michonne looked pretty pissed, too, but in that moment Kayla couldn't have cared less. Angela was safe.

OOOOO

Bob died the next morning at seven-fifty. Sasha was with him and Tyreese did the last part to spare his sister of it. Everyone in the group was able to say their good-byes to Bob, Kayla's fairly brief since she never really got a chance to know him. She remembered giving him an examination when he first arrived at the prison to determine how good of health he was in and they shared a few moments after that, but not many. Besides, Kayla wanted to make sure Sasha got all the time she needed with him before his time came.

Sasha wasn't happy with Kayla at all. She believed Angela led the Terminus people to the group and it was her fault that Bob was dead. Her and Kayla's. Even though Sasha didn't say it directly, Kayla knew that it was what the woman was thinking by the way she glared daggers.

For the rest of the morning, Kayla sat in the dirt by the trees, watching the woods in hopes Daryl would emerge. According to Bob, Garret said he and Carol drove off somewhere. Now there were even more questions flooding Kayla's head. Why'd they drive off? When would they be back? Were they safe? Where'd they go? And the list went on. Her husband was gone and she was just left sitting in the dirt waiting for his return.

The only time Kayla got up was to say good-bye to Glenn and Maggie. They were departing with Abraham and his crew to Washington D.C where the group would eventually reunite with them upon Daryl and Carol's return. The situation left Kayla unhappy, but it was a compromise that was made while Kayla was out. Turns out she'd been passes out for the better part of an hour or so and missed quite a bit.

"I hate you for leaving." Kayla told Maggie. "I didn't want to have the group split again."

"I know but it won't be for long. We'll see each other soon." Maggie replied, her southern accent making the response even sadder to Kayla's ears.

The two women wrapped their arms around one another tightly. Since the farm, they were each other's go to girls for relationship issues and troubles. So many Greene's have already been lost…Kayla didn't want to lose another. "Stay safe." she told her friend. "You too." Maggie replied as she let go.

Glenn appeared and Kayla hugged him next. "Don't die." she told him, making the Korean chuckle as he hugged her. He'd always been someone she could go to for help since Glenn had always been that kind of guy. "I won't if you won't." he told her. The two separated and shared a look. "He'll come back." Glenn told her. "I know that much." Kayla nodded once with a small smile as Glenn and Maggie turned to go to the bus. She believed Daryl was alive-he was strong and capable, but all her reassurance was thrown out the window when she remembered how one wrong move could result in his death.

Once Glenn and Maggie departed, Kayla spent a while more watching the woods before getting something to eat with the others. She felt so incomplete without Daryl with her, like a piece of her was missing. All she wanted was him back. Back where she knew he was safe and unharmed. A huge part of her had those feelings, but another small part was furious that he just drove off with not telling anyone. There obviously had to be a valid reason, but that didn't stop anger from rising in Kayla just a tad.

After eating and checking on Jonathan who spent most of the day catching up on some sleep, Kayla sat on the front steps of the church waiting for Daryl. Carl came out and sat with her for a bit, entertaining her with a few games of Go Fish and conversation to get her mind off of things. It made Kayla see the teenager in Carl again and made her smile. "He'll be back." Carl told her. "He isn't that easy to kill."

The comment made Kayla chuckle. "That is true." she agreed.

"I wish I could say something to make you feel better."

"You're making me feel better by really sucking at Go Fish."

The two laughed and played ten rounds of Go Fish before Rick called Carl inside. Kayla looked at Rick from where she sat and he met her eyes. They haven't spoken since the incident last night and Kayla didn't know what to say. She didn't like lying, but she knew Rick would have reacted the way he did if she told him the truth too soon. Unfortunately she was unable to avoid a gun in her friend's face, but at least the truth was finally out. Rick just needed time

Angela also came out and sat with her for a bit, the two reminiscing about the old world and the things they missed.

"So why Daryl?" Angela asked after a while. "How'd you two end up with one another?"

Kayla chuckled. "The first time I got a good look at him, he was already looking at me." she told her friend. "And when I saw that and saw him, a tiny piece of me just knew somehow someway we'd be each other's."

Angela smiled and sat with her friend until the sun went down so she could go and get to bed early. Reliving her first memory of Daryl at the Greene farm caused Kayla's smile to go away for the night. Michonne came out and took watch with Kayla who had barely moved from her spot all day in hopes Daryl would come out of the tree line.

"How's Jonathan?" Kayla asked Michonne as she sat down with her katana.

"He ate with Carl and went back to sleep." Michonne told her.

"Is he doing alright? I only checked on him a couple of times."

"I think he'll be just fine."

Kayla smiled and looked back at the woods. The air was getting cool and the sky darker as night took over Georgia. You could hear some of the nocturnal creatures emerging from their burrows and hiding spots to go hunt for food. Owls were hooting and critters were scurrying, but there was still an awkward silence among Michonne and Kayla.

"I don't like being lied to." Michonne eventually said. "I don't like the group being lied to."

Kayla turned to look at Michonne. "You saw him after we got out. He was…fuming. Had I said anything too soon he'd of just…"

"I get that, but I'm still pissed."

Kayla chuckled. "I get it. I'd be pissed too I guess. But are we good? I'd rather not have too many people hating me right now."

Michonne smiled. "Yeah. We're good."

The two women enjoyed each other's company after that. The beginning of the night was uneventful of walkers but after about an hour, there was a rustling in the brush. Michonne and Kayla instantly stood up, Michonne pulling out her katana and Kayla her gun. The approached the tree line quietly together, but Michonne took point. Kayla stayed behind a couple of feet to create some distance if a real problem unfolded.

Michonne went from having her sword raised ready to kill to lowering it once she saw something Kayla could not. "What is it?" Kayla whispered, her pistol still raised. Michonne turned her body, allowing Kayla to see what Michonne did which turned out to be Daryl. He stepped out of the brush and Kayla felt her heart stop at the sight of him as she lowered her gun. As he got out of the trees, his eyes met hers.

"I'm so sorry." he said as he approached her. He felt so guilty that he with Carol without telling anyone, especially Kayla. The guilt ate at him the entire time he was gone, but when he saw the car that took Beth he had to act on the chance of finding her. In that moment though, Kayla didn't care. She didn't care that he left without telling her or anyone because he was standing right there in front of her again alive. She holstered her pistol and met him halfway, wrapping her arms around him. His arms immediately were around her in response, holding her as tight as he could. She buried her face in the crook where his shoulder met his neck as he pressed his cheek to her hair. He lifted her off the ground a little in the tight embrace as he took her in. She was alive and safe which is all that mattered to him in the moment.

"Where'd you go?" he heard her ask as she pulled away to look at him. He set her down and went to speak when rustling leaves sounded again causing the two of them and Michonne to turn. "He's a friendly." Daryl said as an unfamiliar dark skinned teenager emerged from the woods.
