A/N: We are coming in on the home stretch guys. Walking Dead will be back in less than a month :)

Daryl ended up dozing off into a deeper sleep than usual with his wife curled up next to him, but was woken when he felt her shifting to get up. His hold on her tightened to keep her in place, but Kayla placed her hands on his arm and raised her lips to his ear. "My turn for perimeter walk." she told him. "I'll be right back. Promise." Daryl opened his eyes to look at her. "Fine." he groaned as he removed his arm from around her. She leaned down and pressed a kiss to his cheek, making a small smile appear on his face as he closed his eyes again. He heard her stand up and walk away, Jonathan still past out next to him. Even though Daryl knew an early start to the day was always a good thing, he chose to let himself and the little guy sleep in for a bit. It was a late night and an especially frightening one for the boy with keeping the walkers out of the barn. Daryl had to give the kid credit though, he was adapting to the world for what it was pretty well for a lack of better terms.

Once the sun came all the way up in the morning sky, Daryl got up and was tuning his cross bow, Jonathan watching as he did so. The young boy was intrigued by the weapon since he'd only been handling knives for far, his introduction to guns postponed for the time being. Kayla had every intention to teach him, but they didn't have the time or ammo to spare for training. That was something she and Daryl were going to have wait to do.

"Where'd you learn to shoot?" Jonathan asked.

"My brother taught me." Daryl told the boy as he adjusted the bow's tension.

"When can you teach me?"

"Soon little man. Gotta find some better arrows first."

While Daryl and Jonathan were inside, Kayla was outside doing a perimeter walk with Angela to make sure the area was relatively clear of walkers. With their eyes still scanning the surrounding areas and guards still up, the old friends recalled some stories of the world before.

"Remember when we got our first apartment together?" Angela asked as she scanned the woods.

"Place was a shithole." Kayla recalled as she remembered the place. "Stove and fridge barely worked, the carpets were stained beyond recognition, and there was god awful smell coming from I don't even know where."

Angela laughed as did Kayla as they continued their trek. Despite the extremely shitty circumstances, the girls found a way to laugh. Having her friend back meant the world to Kayla. The two of them went through middle and high school together and then college. Neither of them thought they'd ever see each other again and being able to laugh and reminisce with one another again was a luxury they didn't take for granted.

The perimeter walk took about hour and in those thirty minutes since their departure, everything seemed to completely turn around. As they approached the barn, they came through the brush and heard the sounds of a guns being raised and clicked. Both Kayla and Angela immediately raised theirs' as they broke through the tree line. It ended up being Abraham and Glenn. All four immediately lowered their firearms and let out a breath of relief.

"Can't even go on a perimeter walk without this becoming the Eastern front?" Kayla question as she holstered her gun.

"Well once you see what's inside you'll see why we're a little edgy, Doc." Abraham retorted.

Both Kayla and Angela raised eyebrows in curiosity of what Abraham meant by his comment, but he and Glenn explained on the way. They told the girls about Aaron and the safe zone he mentioned that was near D.C. Hearing this made a burst of hope course throughout Kayla's chest at the thought of a safe, secure camp where they could make home. She didn't want to get her hopes up, but she almost couldn't help it.

Upon entering the barn, Kayla watched as all heads turned towards her and the others. When Daryl's eyes landed on her, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. She was safe and sound and walking towards him. Even though after discovering Aaron seemed to be telling the truth about everything, Daryl was still worried there were more people watching and waiting for the group. But she was okay, Angela was okay, and the rest of his family was okay.

She joined him and Jonathan on the ground where they sat, his arm immediately going around her as the group agreed to follow Aaron and whoever the other person he was with back to their camp. Kayla offered Daryl a smile at the possibility of a new home which he returned, placing a kiss on her head a plan to get there began getting discussed.

OOOOO

They got to D.C the next day, everyone feeling the exhaustion hit them the second the Washington Monument came into view. Jonathan was fast asleep in the back of the RV while Kayla read a book on the couch as she laid between Daryl's legs. His arms that were originally tight around her to hold her snug to his frame had gone a little slack, indicating he too had dozed off. She eventually put the book down and closed her eyes as well, not being woken until Maggie shook her arm to tell her they'd arrive. Tilting her head up, Kayla saw Daryl was still asleep.

"Thought you should wake him." Maggie told her, making Kayla smile.

Maggie walked off after that and Kayla rolled over onto her stomach to rest her chin on Daryl's chest. "Hey." She whispered. "Wake up sleepyhead."

Daryl's eyes opened and found his wife's looking back at him with a shine in them. "We're here." She told him. He looked out the window next to him for a moment before glancing back at her.

"Ready?" she asked him which he responded to with a simple nod.

They both got off the couch and walked off the RV with Jonathan in tow. Daryl walked protectively in front of the two as they approached the gates of Alexandria, both eager that his family had a wall to stay safe behind and ready to kill anyone inside who threatened them.

A/N: If you hate this chapter, no need to tell me, this episode had me stumped and I wrote it three different ways before I said fuck it and threw this together. Partly because I really needed to get something to you guys and because I know the Alexandria chapters are going to be a lot of fun to write which are now coming up.

What did you guys think of the premiere? I was so rigid with anxiety and felt like I was going to throw up the entire time. I was sad to be right about Glenn and Abraham's tragic ends which leads me to my next question, do you guys think Daryl is at fault for Glenn's death? Let me know in the review column, I'm interested to see what you guys think. How do you think the rest of the season will unfold? Who else do you think we'll lose this season? Just share your thoughts with me!

Also, thank you all for reading and staying with the story. It means the world to me that you guys love reading this as much as I love writing it. I can't express my gratitude enough.
