Author's Note: After watching S2-E06: Monster, which made me favor Lucifer all the more as I found him even more relatable than I already did, I was inspired to write this 'missing scene' that is based on one of my favorite songs by Linkin Park. Although, I listened to a beautiful piano cover of it by Nicholas Wells on YT instead of the original while I was writing this fic, which I recommend checking out in order to help set the mood of this story if you're not already familiar with the song One More Light.

Also, I've only watched that episode once, which was a while ago, and I haven't finished watching the rest of the series yet, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes such as little details or canonical stuff that might be wrong in this story, which I intended to be as accurate and canon-compliant as I could make it.

After checking in on Trixie and Maze, who were both sleeping soundly on the couch after what appeared to be a very successful day of trick-or-treating, Chloe quietly left the house and made her way over to Lux, having regretted not staying by Lucifer's side when he so clearly needed help.

It was nearing midnight when she arrived at the nightclub, which was unusually dark and empty for that time of night as if its owner had closed it early and gone out. Considering how Lucifer had basically begged for death by taunting that sniper to shoot him just a few hours ago, Chloe dearly hoped that it was a good sign that he had taken her advice to go talk to somebody and not a bad sign that he had done something else.

Not knowing what she would find, Chloe hesitantly entered the main area of Lux, which was lit up by only a few lights on the ceiling that shone down brilliantly like stars on a cloudless night. A relieved sigh escaped from her lips when she heard who could only be Lucifer passionately playing the piano before she saw him sitting at the instrument, his coat nowhere to be seen. His only companion was an opened bottle of alcohol that sat in front of him atop the piano, which she was certain that he'd described as being half-empty at the moment.

Resting her bare hands on the cold guardrail, Chloe silently watched him from the top of the staircase as his fingers danced desperately on the ebony and ivory keys, playing a song that she didn't recognize. Whatever it was, it was as emotional as Lucifer himself appeared to be, which surprised Chloe as she had never seen him with his walls so far down. It was as if a wrecking ball had been taken to them and he had not only abandoned all hope of rebuilding them but was taking a sledgehammer to the ones still standing.

Ever since he drunkenly showed up at that zombie wedding looking like some poor animal that a cat had dragged in after torturing it for only God knows how long, Lucifer had been acting concerningly strange to the point that even Dan was starting to worry about him. Chloe didn't know the reason for it, but she figured that something very serious must have happened in order to turn the carefree man into a shadow of himself... or perhaps reveal his true self? Had his usual devil-may-care attitude just been a facade to hide the obviously troubled man that she now saw?

A tear made its way down her face when Lucifer started to sing, his usually confident voice that was now cracking left no doubt in Chloe's mind that tears were sliding down his own cheeks as well. After watching him howl out the somber lyrics for a couple of minutes, Chloe slowly descended the staircase, her footsteps drowned out by the sound of the piano as Lucifer reached the instrumental part of the song. She made her way through a warzone of empty bottles and broken glasses that sparkled on the floor, going unnoticed until she gently placed a hand on his trembling shoulder.

Lucifer made a startled jump, inhaling sharply as he stopped playing and turned his head towards her hand. He muttered a single word that she could have sworn was brother as he looked up at her, the hopeful expression on his unshaven face disappearing as quickly as it appeared when he realized who it wasn't, which shattered her heart into almost as many pieces as his own seemed to be in. Taking a seat beside him, Chloe wiped away one of the tears from beneath his eyes, which reflected the same kind of pain that she often saw in the mirror when she was alone at home with only reminders of what, or rather, who she once always had, but couldn't keep forever.

Understanding now what had happened to Lucifer, what he had lost and how he probably blamed himself for it even if it wasn't his fault, she gave him a small, comforting smile as she moved her hand up and combed it through his disheveled hair, just like her father used to do when she was upset, before she pulled her hand away. Taking ahold of one of his hands that had fallen to his lap and were now clenched into fists, Chloe gave it a gentle squeeze as she guided it back to the keys before her eyes flickered up towards him in a silent plea for him to continue. Lucifer hesitated for a moment as he watched her with wide, glistening eyes before he gave her a weak smile in return and turned his attention back onto the piano in front of them.

After Lucifer finished playing the instrumental, Chloe let him take the lead as their voices joined together to sing the final chorus of the song, the pain of losing a family member flowing freely from their lips and eyes as they did so. When the song came to an end and they took turns softly repeating the last two words, ones that she never thought they would say to each other, Chloe wrapped an arm around Lucifer's back as she gently laid her head on his shoulder, mindful of the scars hidden beneath his wrinkled shirt. While he rested his arms on the tear-soaked piano keys and allowed himself to fully break down, she watched one of the lights above them go out, leaving their small world a little bit darker, before she closed her wet eyes and tightened her embrace.

Chloe didn't know how long they sat together like that until Lucifer finally started building his walls back up and silently fled to his home above, but it didn't matter. She would have sat with him like that in this cold, dark place for as long as it took to let him know that he wasn't dealing with that kind of pain alone, that somebody cared about him. Judging by the thankful smile that had flickered across his face like a shooting star before he left her sitting alone at the piano with the half-full bottle of alcohol, Chloe was certain that Lucifer knew that now.

The End.
