A geologist/Undertale fan from our world is transported to the world of Undertale. Being found on the road on the side of a mountain surrounded by trees has no choice but to climb the mountain. After that, well you know how the stories go.
Undertale is owned by Toby Fox. I don't own anything but myself and the idea for the story.
Jesse woke with a start as a cool breeze blew across his face. Blinking, he rolled over trying to fall back asleep to return to the land of dreams. This worked until a rock jabbed his side. HE groaned from the pain of having a surprisingly sharp rock stab him. Standing up he noticed the lack of windows and walls of his dorm room.
"OK, this is interesting. Either I am hallucinating, or I have been isekai." He said sarcastically as he stretched his arms and looked around. Not noticing much, he looked down and noticed his peculiar clothes. Looking down he noted a purple and green sweater (joker colors) and a pair of beige pants.
"I didn't wear this last time I checked. Wait a minute, last I checked I didn't even have this type of clothing." He groaned.
"Ok this is fine, I just got to find civilization nearby.". Having said this, he put a hand to his face to block the sun and took a look around. Traveling over several minutes he eventually came upon a sign in the forest. His blood both chilled and warmed up at the sight. The sign read 'welcome to Mt. Ebott national park.'
"Oh no, oh no. this is both the best and worst place for me to be isekaied. In the world of Undertale I understand the lore but what universe if any am I in and what is stopping one of the many sans from killing me."
"Although this does make me wonder what trait I have. Wait is this post-Chara, pre-Frisk, or post-frisk because depending on the answer I could be in trouble especially if it is post-genocide. `` Having finished his minor breakdown Jesse debated on his choice from her.
"OK, so my current options right now are 1. Go up the mountain and potentially fight my way through the monsters inside to save everyone or die trying. 2. Uuuhhh I could go to the nearby city but I don't have any identification on me so that would be a problem. Crap I only got one choice, don't I? Welp onwards we go."
Having made his decision, he continued on his way up the mountain. He stopped several times due to a lack of not fitness but lack of stamina for this type of exercise. "Man, this mountain is surprisingly steep. 'Huff' how did the kid make it up all this way?"
Taking several hours, the almost out-of-shape adult finally found himself at the cave and more importantly the hole into the underground.
Softly exhaling out of his mouth Jesse swung his arms back and forth. "Ok, ok here is the hole jesse. You can do this just a hidden society of monsters going to attempt to kill you. You can do this. You got thiiiiiiiissssss…" unfortunately he was unable to finish this thought as what appeared to be a root the size of a tree trunk shoved him from behind into the hole.
"FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK"
The 500 ft drop was surprisingly faster than he thought it would be. The fall was both incredibly fast and excruciatingly slow. Slow enough in fact that if he tried hard enough that he could almost identify rocks and minerals in the wall as he fell. It was scant minutes later that he impacted the bottom in thump and cloud of buttercup flowers. If anybody was around at the time spitting would have been one of many sounds heard from the area including cursing, yelling, and a general foul mouth. Several minutes later jesse calmed down. Standing up to his full hit he leaned back and was rewarded with a satisfying series of pops up
"Ok and here we are and first off it's very dark in here. Also, I seem to be saying ok a lot maybe tone that down." taking his first step into the underground. It was on his second step into the underground that he found his first problem also known as a broken ankle.
"Aaaaaaahhhhhhh fuck" is all he could say as he was forced down to the ground from the pain. He continued to groan in pain as tears started to leak from his eyes due to the pain. It was at this moment that the most incredible thing happened to him. It was hard to tell at first, but a warm glow started to appear at his hands which were currently wrapped around his ankle from the pain. The glow continued to grow until a stable emerald glow appeared around his hands. Jesse stared in wonder at this phenomenon. It was seconds later that he saw that his ankle was fully healed.
"Well, I guess I know what my trait is. Kindness huh makes sense, I guess. I do take after my mother in being highly empathetic and all that jazz. I wonder what this does for the timeline. Oh, wait, oh no I don't have determination, so I don't timey wimey powers, double fuck."
"Language my child." a calm motherly tone answered from the shadows of the gate out to the rest of the underground.
Already knowing who it is but not wanting to change anything too drastic "who goes there?" he asked.
"Apologies my child. I am Toriel caretaker of the ruins. I was coming to check up on the flower patch you appear to have fallen on to 1. care for them and 2. to check for fallen children like you."
"Oh hello, Mrs. Toriel. I am Jesse." the shadowy figure giggled as they stepped into the light showing them to be 7 ft, tall goat women. "It is so nice to meet someone with manners, but unfortunately I haven't been married in a very long time." she giggled again.
Jesse looked up at the woman with a questioning look. "Are you ok after that fall my child? I know in the past I had to heal quite a few children after the fall." Jesse looked down at his now healed ankle then looked back to Toriel. "no, I am all good for the time being. I just managed to heal myself "the goat woman clapped her hands together. "Oh, good then just follow my lead and I can lead you into the ruins proper."
Hesitantly He followed her into the ruins proper. Walking forward jesse was instantly entranced by the aesthetic around him but also more importantly by the rocks that are used to make the brickwork. "Woah, hey Ms. Toriel do you know what they used to make the bricks here." Toriel giggled and answered back "no, unfortunately but I do know that they are made in part with, oh what's the word um, ah it was made with ultracite for its durability and lightweight allowing the ruins to last well over 2000 years to this date."
Jesse could only grin at that. He had never heard of ultracite well except for some video games but he was excited to learn about new rocks and minerals all the same. Looking around for anything else of interest he was sad to note the lack of the save point that is so common in this game. Finishing his assessment, he turns to Toriel the two enter the ruins. After several minutes of walking, they eventually came to a room with six buttons arranged in a 2-1-2-1 pattern. Toriel turned to him. "Please allow me to educate you on how the ruins work. You see the ruins are full of puzzles. one-part diversions and one part door keys. You must solve them if you wish to proceed to the next room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them."
Jesse was confused for a sec that the quote sounded right but he felt like it had a more formal speech than what she had just said. Shrugging to himself he continued with the puzzle. First reading the sign as to not raise suspicion then solve the puzzle.
Toriel beamed with pride then walked forward leading him into the next room. "There is a series of switches needed for you to proceed from this room. Don't worry I have marked all of the switches such that you can find them easily. I shall be waiting for you at the end." having said her piece she turns on her heel and walks away stopping right be for the spikes looking expectantly at you.
Giving a soft sigh jesse strides forward and flips the two switches hearing a thunk as the spikes retreat into the floor. Humming to himself he walks forward finally getting a good look at Toriel other than goat women. She was as stated before around 7 ft tall. She was wearing a purple robe showing that he was at least in the classic universe. She is covered in fur with no shoes and her face looks distinctly kind with a pair of glasses on her face (picture by LeoKatana). Finally arriving she gestures you into the next room. The first thing Jesse saw was the training dummy in the now-famous dummy room for which the start of all pacifist runs truly start.
"As a human living in the underground monsters may attack you to gain your soul. You will need to be prepared for this scenario. However, don't worry the process is rather simple. When you encounter a monster that wishes for conflict then you will enter a fight. When you enter this fight try to strike up a conversation in the hope that you can dissuade them. Go ahead and try it out with the dummy over there." she pointed to the training dummy on the far side of the wall.
Jesse approached the dummy when a sound occurred, and his soul was pulled from his body. Jesse was confused because the battle music was distinctly familiar but not to Undertale but her sister game Deltarune. Shrugging his shoulders Jesse went through the menu options currently available. There were the standard fight, act, items, and mercy buttons so jesse just went through the different menus instead. It was upon coming to his act options that he found some changes. On top of the check option and the talk option, there was now a heal button and a pacify button as well.
'The hell aren't those from Deltarune, not Undertale. I also don't remember being Ralsei so why do I have the pacify command.'
Jesse moved out of the action button and finally noticed a bar at the bottom of the screen. Looking at it rather intensely the bar light up showing on the left side TP0%.
'So, I do have TP which is interesting as that is a Deltarune thing, but I guess that makes sense because Frisk never had any magical abilities.' shrugging once again he entered the act menu and used talk on the dummy. On instinct, he pointed out with his finger at the dummy (kris pointing stance) "hey there buddy how is you doing today" there was no response. He heard a clapping sound behind him as Toriel spoke up for the first time during the battle. "Having now pacified the dummy you can now take the spare action on them." Jesse jolted or tried to jolt back from the comment. 'Wasn't the spare option advised from some froggit later on.' he frowned at that thought 'I really must be changing the timeline more than I expected if she is giving me that advice now.
Moving over to the mercy menu he also now noticed the inclusion of a defend button. Frowning once again and then taking the spare option against the dummy. A screen appeared in front of him telling him success and that he earned 0 XP and 0 GP. He finished turning around to Toriel.
Toriel looked quite proud of what he did and once again gestured over to him to follow her lead as they both exited the room. Looking over at the women Jesse tried to make some conversation
"So, what does that symbol on your robes mean." Toriel giggled and got a sly look in her eyes "oh my so eager to look at my chest are we." Jesse immediately blushed and tried to deny that he was doing such a thing. She giggled again and waved him off "I was just teasing you, but this symbol is called the delta rune. It has had many meanings over the years but currently, it is supposed to realize the angel that shall come from above and save monsters from life under this mountain."
Jesse looked contemplative but inwards was glad that it had the same meaning as in the game. Shaking his knowing that their angel will come but he was not at least he didn't think so. Continuing through the next room they arrived at the spiked floor room and Toriel guided him through the trap. They walked their way into the long hallway when Toriel turned to him. "Jesse, usually I try to teach the fallen child some independence here by leaving them but from the look of you, you already have this skill." Toriel then turned and beckoned Jesse to follow her.
It was a several-second walk to reach the end where Toriel stopped and turned. Reaching into her robe she pulls out an old cell phone.
"Here you go, my child. I do not know if you had a cellphone, but the fall probably broke it and if not cellphones from the surface don't work down here due to the barrier. You are welcome to explore the ruins now as we are past the most dangerous traps and I encourage you to talk to some of the residents. You are of course also welcome to join me on going home if you so wish." listening carefully to goat mom Jesse nodded then looked her in the eyes. "I would like to explore a little more if that is ok?" jesse told her. She smiled at him and answered, "of course just try to be careful." with that she turns and walks away leaving Jesse to his thoughts
'So, this has gone relatively close to the game minus the ridiculous amount of trust Toriel has given me. Next up if I remember correctly is the yellow spare frog and the candy room' nodding to himself Jesse walked into the next room seeing a froggit and a doorway into another room. Walking towards the froggit he crouches down to talk to it. "Ribbit, ribbit rib ribbit" Jesse sighs. 'Of course, how could I think that I would suddenly know how to speak to him.' Jesse nods at the froggit then stands up heading into the candy room. Walking forward he grabs two candies putting them in his pocket and then turns around. Walking out of the room and around the corner, he arrives at the first of three-leaf traps. Walking forward he grimaced not a fan of drops, especially ones he can't see the bottom on. Taking a deep breath jesse steeped forward and fell through the cover.
Landing with a thump Jesse stood up and brushed himself of as he walked to the other side of the room and climbed up the rightmost shoot. Arriving at the top Jesse continued his journey coming into the first rock room. Seeing the sign to the side Jesse walked over to read the iconic sign. "Three out of four gray rocks recommend you push them." chuckling to himself Jesse then walks over to the rock and before pushing he squats low to observe the rock. 'Hmm based on the crystal sizes and the different combinations of Plagioclase, biotite, and quartz this appears to be diorite. Can't quite tell if it is some sub-variant of diorite but like my teacher said cookies and cream.'
Standing up Jesse gives the rock a push with his foot causing the button to depress and open the way forward. Jesse walks forward without problem arriving in the next room. Arriving at number 2 of the leaf trap he scratches his head as he tries to remember the trap. Walking towards the wall stopping a good couple of inches away he steps forward onto solid ground. Jesse smiles at this as he continues to follow the path he remembered. Trouble only started when he got to the sign. 'Fuuuck I know I go down from the sign, but do I go all the way down or do I stop halfway.' shrugging to himself Jesse starts to walk to the other side of the room stopping in the middle. Turning towards the exit door he stepped forward.
"Fuuuuuuuuuuck" Jesse yelled as he fell through the leaves to the ground below. Picking himself up Jesse looked at the floor and groaned seeing the error of his way literally via leaves on the ground. Patting himself down Jesse turned around and walked towards the only way out.
Finding himself once again on the top-level he followed his original path only changing his path to follow the route below to the exit. Muttering profanities to himself as he enters the next room.
Taking a deep breath and letting it out to calm down Jesse walked forward towards the trio of rocks ahead. Approaching the first rock Jesse squats down to inspect the rock as he did earlier. 'Hmm, vesicular so it is extrusive which is interesting because of where we are. The dark red color lends me to believe scoria for this particular rock, huh nice.' jesse gives the rock a push causing it to depress its button.
Approaching the second rock Jesse squats down to get a better look. 'hmm this rock appears to have some garnet in it judging by the red spots in it. The rock is a very nice specimen of metamorphism based on the foliation in it. This is a very nice gneiss. (pronounced nice). Standing up and giving it a shove just the first rock the rock depresses the button leaving only one. Finally approaching the last rock but the most outspoken. Squatting down Jesse took a moment to analyze the rock. The rock was a nice shade of green and looked to be made of grains of sands molded together.
"Hey pardner what do you think you are doing just staring." Jesse heard from the rock. Standing up in shock Jesse looks back down at the rock. "sorry Mr. rock I was just admiring the minerals that make up your body. "
"Not going to lie pardner that's a little creepy." the rock responded. Jolting once again Jesse looked away. "Sorry, I got caught up in the moment," Jesse replied
"It's alright pardner I couldn't care less but others might." the rock replied with what jesse guessed was his best representation of a shrug
Having gotten over his awkward feeling Jesse turned back to the peridotite rock and smiled. "Mr. rock I hate to ask this, but do you think you can move over and sit on that button for a while?" the rock seems to hum to himself and then relents. "Alright pardner, I could do that for you." having said his word the rock slides over and depresses the button allowing the spikes to fall. Taking careful steps towards the spikes Jesse was one step from the spikes when they shot back up. Clutching his chest from the almost heart attack jesse turned back to the rocks only to see the last rock had moved back to his starting spot. "Umm, do you think that you can stay on the button? The rock sighed somehow and went back to the button lowering the spikes. "Man, pardner you are giving me a workout here. Jesse crossed over the spikes this time without issue. Sighing he looks towards the next room hopeful and dreading the next encounter
Napstablook.
