I know it has been practically a year since I even thought about touching this story. But, after actually seeing how many of you guys followed and liked this, I'm going to try and start this story up again. I think what happened was I watch way too much of GA and burned myself out of it all together. So, I am going to start slow again, please bare with me. As always R&R, I love what you guys have to say about my stories. Thanks for sticking with me all this time. I won't keep you any longer and let's continue with McKenna, shall we! It has been a few days since Miss. Connor's unfortunate surgery and my encounter with Alex Karev. Ever since then, Alex has been even more annoying. He won't work with me all that much since I had 'stolen' his surgery. I really don't care either way at this point though. My alarm had just gone off five minutes ago, it was going on 5:25 am. I was dreading getting up this morning. Someone, in as someone I mean, Meredith, was being loud someone last night. I'm going to only guess it was, Dr. Shephard.

I went ahead got up, dressed and went downstairs to have a little something to eat before heading out. I was greeted by a tired looking George and Izzie, who were both waiting for the coffee to brew.

"You get any sleep?" George asks.

"Oh, she could oil the bedsprings as a courtesy or at least buy a padded headboard." Izzie said.

"Or even go ahead and ger her room soundproofed at least." I said, rubbing of the sleep out of my eyes.

"So, who's the guy?" George asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. I promised Meredith I wouldn't tell who she was seeing, and I am keeping that promise.

"Oh, jealous?" Izzie teased questioning him as well.

"I'm not jealous."

"Well, I am. But at least I know she'll be having a long day at work."

I was just pouring myself a small glass of orange juice, when I notice Dr. Shephard walking out the front door. Unfortunately for him though, my eyes weren't the only ones that seen him. He didn't notice us staring at him when he walked out. He just casually slips out the front door and closes it behind him.

"Well, at least we know brain surgery isn't his only skill." Izzie comments.

"They can't be… He's our boss." George adds.

I turned around and George was staring at me shocked, while I casually sipped my juice. He squinted his eyes at me, looking at me like he is figuring something out.

"You knew?" He asks. "You knew about them, didn't you?!"

"I only just found out last week." I defended myself.

"Sure, whatever. It's not like you, Meredith and Cristina are just the best of friends." Izzie said, rolling her eyes at me.

"We aren't BEST friends, Izzie. Cristina and I barley have said more than two sentences to each other." I told her snippy.

"Well, if she's not ashamed of it, why is she keeping it a secret?" She asks.

"Maybe she didn't. Maybe it just happened. You know, spontaneously, last night." George said.

Only minutes later, Meredith came into the kitchen.

"Hi. Good morning."

"Morning. Hey, so it sounded like you were having some pretty radical sex last night, all night long. Who was this guy?" Izzie asks, exaggerating.

Meredith gives me a stare of, did you say anything, type of look. I gave her a wide-eyed look and slightly shook my head while sipping on my juice.

"No one you know." Meredith says.

"We're late. Let's go." Izzie said.

We arrive at work twenty minutes later as usual. Cristina pulls up next to us on her motorcycle.

"Yikes, wouldn't want to meet you in a dark alley." Meredith jokes with her.

"Right back at ya."

I was starting to walk towards the hospital with George by my side, when Alex jogged up next to us.

"You run?" I ask him.

"Every day, babe, every day." Alex says, jogging in place.

"Don't call me babe." I tell him sternly.

"Not suffering enough?" Cristina asks, smirking slightly.

"What doesn't kill, makes you stronger."

""Don't go acting all indefatigable. You're dragging like the rest of us. Oh, what is that professional weakness, Dr. Yang?" Alex mocks.

"It's called the flu."

"Yeah."

We all finally make to the locker room, getting ready for the day.

"I'm going to need a major rush to make it through this day. I need a kick-ass surgery." George complains.

"Ohh, you a bad boy last night, George." Alex teased.

"That would be Meredith." Izzie interjects.

"You a bad boy, Meredith?" Alex asks.

"Do tell." Cristina said.

"Nothing to tell." Meredith says.

I was clipping on my badge onto my scrubs, facing the other way. I caught Meredith glancing out of the corner of her eye, towards me. I raised my eyebrows at her. I wasn't going to say anything. How does she even know, if we saw him or not?

"That says it all, huh?" Cristina asks, glancing between me and Meredith.

At that moment there was a locker slam. I looked over and wasn't all that surprised to see that it was Izzie. I roll my eyes and shake my head at her.

"Sorry, I have a sex life."

"Don't apologize. Embrace it. Share it. Count me in." Alex says.

I once again rolled my eyes, directly at him though.

"Yeah, next time, just let me know if I need to go to a hotel, so I can get some sleep."

Izzie walks out of the locker room.

"Am I missing something?" Meredith asks.

"You were just little loud." George says, also walking out.

Everyone has left the locker room as I could tell. I walked close to Meredith and told her:

"They, um, they saw Dr. Shephard leave this morning." I told her.

She looked at me shocked and fear. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked out of the locker room. Cristina was waiting for us outside and as soon as, Meredith, walked out she bombed her with questions.

"Do they know it's McDreamy keeping them up all night?"

"Kenna says they seen him walk out this morning. This sucks because, Bailey riding me, I don't need my roommates thinking I'm getting special treatment."

"I don't think you are getting special treatment." I tell her.

We catch up with the others and Dr. Bailey, right away gave us our assignments.

"O'Malley's, Yang, Karev, go on to the clinic."

George looks a different direction and we see Dr. Shephard putting in eyedrops.

"You two, patients are waiting." Dr. Bailey tells us.

We scramble away to the clinic. Alex and Cristina found a patient with who gave himself gunshots wounds, apparently to have cool looking scars. George was able to find a couple with a young daughter who was having a foot twitch uncontrollably.

"Ahh, and you noticed her foot twitching?" George asks the parents.

I was trying to exam the young girl known as, Jamie.

"Come on, Jamie." I smile at her.

The little girl wanted to play with my stethoscope.

"My foot." She tells me.

I smile at her.

"You noticed this about three months ago?" George asks.

"Just a little. We took her to County Hospital, and she got the CT scan, which showed her…" Mrs. Hayes explained.

"Brain abnormality. And the twitching has gotten worse?" I asked them.

"A lot worse," Mr. Hayes started to say. "They just don't have the proper equipment back home figure out what's wrong."

"You did a good thing." George said.

"Show mommy." Jaime said sweetly.

"Yes, your mommy." I told her, looking at her mother.

"Show mommy and daddy."

I smile at her she was still trying to play with my stethoscope.

"Okay, you did a good thing by coming all this way, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes. You sit tight Jamie, okay?" George said.

"We are going to go Dr. Shephard to see you." I smile at the worried parents.

"Shephard." Jaime said.

"Dr. Shephard, okay? He's the brain specialist." George tired, to explained to her.

"Doctor? Is he good, this Dr. Shephard?" Mr. Hayes asks.

"At just about everything." George said, more to himself I noticed.

We walk out of the room, going to hunt down for Shephard.

"Really George?" I ask him.

He just looked at me, without saying anything.

"What, you aren't going to talk to me now?"

"You knew. And you didn't tell me about it." He says.

He stopped walking and faced around to talk to me. I could tell by his eyes he seemed upset about this. We do tell each other everything and I mean everything. But, as of late it seemed that we haven't been doing that. I know though that he hasn't been very truth full about a certain someone too.

"Like I told you guys this morning, I only just found out last week. Meredith made me swear not to tell you guys. Trust me, I wanted to tell you. But you know me, about breaking promises. I REALLY did want to tell you George, really."

George was looking around with hurt, annoyance, and disbelief. He finally looks at me again and nods his head. He turns back around walks ahead and I follow after. We round a few corners, to find Izzie. George runs up to her, I was taking my sweet time. I did hear him ask to see if Izzie had seen Dr. Shephard. I didn't hear what she said though, I only have to guess she said something sly about it though. I finally get close to them, when I do though Izzie gives me an annoying look and a heavy and obvious sigh. I huffed out and shake my head at her. I don't know what her deal is with me, I know my reasonings with her are. I don't know the feeling that she has towards my brother. I just hope my feeling towards her, really isn't, jealousy.

"What? Are you trying to get her in trouble? She's our friend." George said, talking about, Meredith.

"George, this program will make or break our careers. Some of us will make it through, and some of us won't. And that decision depends entirely on recommendations from doctors like Shephard. There is a reason we don't sleep with the attendings." Izzie says outright.

"It's not her fault, okay. It's Shephard's. H's the attending, he should know better. He's taking advantage of her."

"It didn't exactly sound like anything was happening against her will last night."

Izzie finally told us where Dr. Shephard was. He was in OR five, just getting finished with surgery. George decided to go into the scrub and wait for him there, while I stayed out in the hall next to the scrub rom door. An X-ray tech came by me and handed me the scans for Jaime Hayes.

"Here you go Doctor."

"Thank you, Cam."

I see our anesthesiologist walking by us and right away, I could smell alcohol off of him. He walked into the surgery room that was, Dr. Shephard's surgery.

"That would be bourbon." Cam says.

"What?"

"I smelled it too. And he's the best anesthesiologist on the staff. I'll worry when he's too juiced to do his crossword puzzle."

I gave him a knowingly look before he walked away. George comes out with Dr. Shephard a minute later.

"Dr. Shephard, I don't know how much George has told you, but we are on a case of a little girl with what we think have continuous seizure activity in her left foot. But I do have her scans for you."

"Thank you, Dr. O'Malley."

He takes the scans and I smile at him. He takes them out and looks at them.

"How old are these films?" He asks.

"Three months old." George says.

"I need new ones. Her brain could look dramatically different today." Shephard tells us.

"Okay, I'll order new ones for you." I tell him.

"Thank you."

"Doc…" George mumbles.

Shephard gets on the elevator and it closes behind him.

"Hey, did you smell what was on Dr. Taylor?" George asks.

"Yeah, I did. So did Cam, the tech guy. Apparently, this isn't Dr. Taylor's first time doing this either." I tell him.

"Should we tell someone?"

"Who's going to believe us George, we're interns, he's an attending."

"You never know though, we could try."

"Like mom says, always saying or asking something never hurts, right?"

"Exactly."

I went off on my own to grab a snack and water bottle from the vending machines as usual, before heading down to the CT room. I was just telling them about Jamie when I got paged by Dr. Shephard. I make We walk in and Dr. Shephard was already starting to examine Jamie.

"You look like a princess. Do you know you're a princess?" He asks the little girl.

I've notice she was playing with his little pen like flashlight.

"It's not lipstick." She's says.

"It's not lipstick? No, it's not lipstick. Want to do my shoulder. Oh, good."

"And nose?"

I smile at the scene; he was really good with kids. Kind of have to be with this job.

"We're going to find out what's causing these seizures. Does MRI know we're coming down?"

"You said to get a CT." I tell him.

"Now, I'm saying MRI."

"It's available." George jumped in.

"Good." Shephard smiles.

"Doctor, is she going to need surgery?" Mr. Hayes asks.

"I don't know yet."

"It's just that my wife and I, we both work, and I don't know if our insurance…"

"We know it can be very expensive." Mrs. Hayes said for her husband.

"I don't want you to worry about that."

Just as that was happening, Jamie's leg started to twitch again.

"It's a focal, left-side seizure," Dr. Shephard started to explain. "Okay, let's get the diazepam running now, please."

The nurse in the room was quick and gentle to get an IV started with Jamie.

"Tourniquet please. Jamie, here's what we're going to do. We're going to put this on your arm, okay? Isn't that fun? Here, we're going to put that right there, like that. And this is going to feel cold. This is a butterfly,"

He takes the needle from the nurse and pretends like it was a butterfly flying down to her arm.

"Butterfly fly lands right there. Good. Blanket for the butterfly. Good, nicely done."

As soon as the needle goes in, her twitching seems to have stopped seconds after.

"It's amazing stuff, isn't it? Hey, you like spaceships?" He asks Jamie.

"Yeah." Jamie replies.

"You do? Okay, should we take Captain O'Malley, my first lieutenant, to the spaceship MRI. Let's go."

I look over at George, smiling as he was being called a Captain. We went to the CT room instead and got Jamie prepped and ready. We told her she was playing a game and she had to keep completely still for the shuttle to run. Also, she could a lollipop after. I walked into the scanning room and seen that Dr. Shephard was smiling at me.

"You have a natural with kids." He tells me.

"Thanks. You too."

Scan was starting. It only took about five minutes for it to load up.

"IT's called Rasmussen's Encephalitis," Shephard explained. "What it amounts to is that this side of her brain,"

Points to that part of her brain that was half dark.

"This part's all healthy, working perfectly. This black part of the brain, this… all of that, or dying. The conditioning has gotten radically worse since her CT scans are from three months ago. Left untreated, the disease will kill her."

"How soon?" Mrs. Hayes asked.

"Too soon."

"So, is there a cure?" The father asks.

"The treatment requires the diseased portion of her brain be removed and sealed off. See, eventually, the spinal fluid ill fill the cavity."

"R-Remove? But, I mean, that's…"

"Half her brain, yes."

"Half her brain. That… seems impossible." Mrs. Hayes said, worryingly.

"Her age makes it possible. Her brain's not fully, developed, so the remaining neurons will compensate for the loss."

Mrs. Hayes runs out of the room and George follows after her. I remain in the room

"But will she be normal?" The young father asks.

Jamie is being rolled out of the gurney and Mr. Hayes goes to stand by his daughter and wife. Dr. Shephard and I follow suit.

"There are risks to any surgery. And this is, you know, a major one. But if we're successful, Jamie could walk out of this hospital in a couple weeks, go on to live a relatively normal life. Look, I know this, you know, a major one. But if we're successful, Jamie could walk out of this hospital in a couple weeks, go on to live a relatively normal like. Look, I know this is a lot to digest. The important thing to remember is that we can save her life."

"Thank you." Mrs. Hayes says.

"Dr. O'Malley?"

"Yes? What?" We both said.

George was sounding more irritated though. I had to really restrain myself from rolling my eyes.

"I'm sorry to bother you, George."

He turns to me.

"McKenna, if the parent's consent I thought you'd like to scrub in on the hemispherectomy. Are you in, or not?"

"In, totally in." I tell him.

"Good." He walks away.

I am smiling from ear to ear. I finally get into a neurosurgery. Looking over at George still smiling, he was looking at me in disbelief.

"What?"

"Really?"

"What? You've been having problems with the guy all day. You could do something wrong in there, because you are too busy hating on our attending."

With that being said. I left him standing there looking shocked of what I just told him.

"Hey, guys."

I was walking down the halls. Oh, I should say, I was more skipping down the halls. I was so excited for this surgery. I see Meredith and Cristina while doing this.

"Guess what?" I ask them.

"What?" Meredith asks, looking nauseous.

"Why are you so happy?" Cristina asks.

"I am operating on a three-year-old little girl, who is getting half of her brain taking out. Well it was going to go to George, but he is still angry with Shephard… Is she okay?" I pointed towards Meredith.

"Get out! I will kill for that." Cristina said.

"Are you okay, Mer?"

"Mhm." She continues to eat her cookie.

"Why does George hate him so much?"

"You know, I have no idea myself."

"Do you think they know about Derek and Meredith."

"I know that they know," I leaned over to her. "They seen him leaving this morning."

She raised her eyebrow at me. I seen that George and Izzie were walking towards us now.

"What are you guys talking about?" Izzie asks.

"Kenna is probably bragging about how she stolen my surgery." George mocked.

"I know you aren't mad at me, George. You usually say my full name when you're mad at me."

I smiled at him he smiles back.

"We were just talking about how you saw Dr. Shephard leave this morning."

"How crazy do you think it is?" Izzie asks.

"Eh, it's whatever for me. I've known for a while now." Cristina said, not really caring.

"You knew?" George and Izzie asks, shocked and frustrated.

"It's been going on for, like ever."

"So, both of you knew this whole time?" Izzie asks, still shocked.

"Oh, no, she only just found out last week."

"Told you."

I gave the, I told you look, and Izzie just gave me a smug look.

"This still sucks that, neither of you, didn't tell us." George complains.

"Ooh, you're a gossip, huh?" Cristina asks.

"I am not!"

"I am." Izzie says.

I slightly shake head.

"Kenna, you do realize that Shephard, is going into surgery with no sleep? Not very responsible."

"Why are you so concerned about him? I thought you didn't care about him?"

"I think he is jealous because, he isn't up all night having sex. Plus being able to have sex all night isn't about being responsible."

"No, it's about sex all night. I can't believe you're not more pissed off about this, you of all people." Izzie says.

"Well, she works hard all day. She's good at her job," Cristina stands up for Meredith. "Why should you care how she unwinds? I mean, you like to bake all night. Some people like to drink. Or read. Others like an occasional screaming orgasms."

Just after she said the, Alex walks up to us. He looks at Cristina.

"You look like you need to be spoon-fed."

"You look like Alex."

"Yeah, about drinking, Dr. Taylor, the anesthesiologist…"

He nods to where Dr Taylor was standing nearby us.

"Do you think he drinks?" George asks us.

"I smelt it too." I confirmed for him.

"I said, whatever gets through the day." Cristina said.

"I mean, here, at work. Earlier, I thought I smelled… Do you think? I mean, his patients trust that… SO I should say something right?"

"It's a can of worms, George. Weren't we talking about sex, anyway?"

"Doofus." George mumbles.

I had to keep a laugh in, coming out as a sniggers. George went and got us snacks while we got to do our charts. I was just eating an apple and drinking orange Gatorade. About twenty minutes later, I was paged by, Dr. Shephard.

"Alright, got to go. Wish me luck." I smiled, packing my things.

"Hey, don't forget, if Dr. Taylor is in the OR to mention about the, uh…"

"I understand George."

"I appreciate this. The chance to scrub in on this kind of procedure is, well…. Yeah, I appreciate it."

I tell Dr. Shephard. We were just going to get scrubbed in, he was just helping Jamie getting put under.

"Here you go. Triple espresso, not too bad."

"Oh, I love you, seriously." Shephard told her.

"Ah, coffee, where would medicine be without it, huh?" Dr. Taylor laughed.

A nurse handed Dr. Shephard a coffee.

"I hope you have a new crossword, Taylor. We're going to be here a while."

"Never go without. Big day for you, kid. Congrats." Dr. Taylor says towards me.

I smiled at him. I remembered what George and I smelled this morning and what he asked me to say now. I sighed I really didn't want to say anything. I had a feeling I would get kicked out of the OR. But this was a three-year-old girl on the table we were talking about here. I turned to Dr. Shephard, a lump forming in my throat now. Jamie was asleep now and he starts to walk towards the scrub room.

"What?" He asks me.

"Do you smell….?" I ask nervously.

"Smell what? I have a mask."

"I'm sorry, really. "Dr. Taylor, but I have to ask. Have you been drinking?"

"I beg your pardon?"

"What?" Dr. Shephard asks.

"I smell alcohol."

"Where the hell do you get of accusing me of something like that?" Dr. Taylor yelled.

"McKenna, you're out of line."

"There are rules. You know, there are rules for a reason. There is a two-year-old-girl on this table. You shouldn't take advantage of someone else's vulnerability."

"Look, I don't need some punk inter telling me what's at stake here. Get her out here, Shephard," He looks towards me and then at Shephard. "Shephard?"

"I'm sorry, McKenna you're out."

I give him a you're kidding me look, which he wasn't happy about that. I took off my mask and left the room. I walked around the halls a little to cool down. I wasn't angry, I was more upset than anything. I know what I have smelled this morning. I know I was right. Dr. Taylor is in the wrong of being in that OR right now. Letting out a breath, I went back to that OR. Not inside, just to watch from the gallery. I got there and I see that George was with Shephard now. I guess he got into this surgery after all. I made myself comfortable inside the gallery, after turning the speaker on.

"We'll encounter the anterior artery." George asks.

"Yes, so we're going to need to, uh…"

Dr. Shephard stopped, looking towards, Jamie's face.

"The branches of the artery need to be coagulated and divided." George continues, obviously not noticing what Shephard seen.

"You know, Taylor, her anesthesia's awful light," There was no response from Taylor. "Come on, Taylor, s-she's waking up."

"Dr. Taylor? He's asleep!" George realizes.

"Taylor! Dr. Taylor!" Shephard yelled.

I stood up, so I was right. I crossed my arms. We…were…right. I breathed in, trying to calm myself down.

"Huh? Oh, God, sorry. Sorry, I'm on it. My bad, Shephard." Dr. Taylor stumbles.

He sits up right and adjusts the anesthesia.

"She was right, wasn't she?"

"AW, I nodded off. Come on."

"Yeah, whatever you got to get through the day, right?"

"Steph, get me some coffee." Dr. Taylor asks.

"Yes, doctor."

"I'll be fine. It won't happen again."

"Yeah, not in here, it won't. Uh, Steph, call Dr. Pennington. Hopkins take over until she gets here. Get out here and get it together."

It took another hour, but the surgery was flawless. I really wish I was in that surgery though. I was just getting out of the gallery room when I almost ran into Dr. Shephard. I know his first name from Meredith and all. But it'll be weird to call him Derek.

"Let me explain." He starts.

"It's fine." I tell him.

"No, there is a code among doctors. We're not supposed to ask each other questions, not within the of his hospital."

"I know, I was out of line."

"No, you weren't. I was. I was out of line. Somebody should have taken responsibility. It should have been the guy the cutting. It should have been me. You didn't deserve what happened to you today. You did the right thing code or no code."

He extends his hand out for me. I smile down at it and take his hand.

"You and the others saw me leave this morning, didn't you?" He asks, suddenly.

"Oh, that was you?"

"Hmm. I'm not using her. And I don't favor her."

"I wasn't thinking that all sir."

"I know the others are. Could you tell them that for me, please?"

"Yes, of course."

We both were walking away, I turned back around.

"Derek,"

He turns around, giving me a weird look.

"I know sorry, that was weird coming from me too. But I should warn you about Cristina. If you do hurt Meredith, it's her you should worry about the most."

He looks down for a second and looks back up at me with a satisfying look. I was able to grab another small snack, before sitting down to finish my charts.

"Hey,"

I looked up to see Alex, handing his charts over to the nurse next to me known as, Alice. I was trying to learn the nurse's names. I learned that if you are nice to the nurses, they are nice back. So, that will be my goal around here. I only looked up at him, not talking to him.

"I heard that you showed Taylor off int the OR today, badass."

I continued to write in the chart.

"Come on. You can't keep ignoring me for the rest of our stay here."

"I can if I can and when I can."

"Look, what can I do to make it up to you?"

I sighed, slammed my chart shut and looked up at then.

"If you can promise me to stop sleeping around with everyone that you lay your eyes on. Then maybe, just maybe, I'll give you another chance."

"Pff, you are kidding me, right?"

"Say no more."

With that, I hand my chart to Alice, and walked away. I know he will NEVER stop sleeping around. I just wanted it to hear it from him, to try at least. I got ready to leave and headed home. I got home and I heard laughter from the kitchen. I tried to go straight upstairs, but was intercepted, by Izzie.

"Hey, do you… are you okay?" She asks.

"Not really."

"Do you want to drink with us?"

I thought about it and to be honest, what the hell, right?

"Sure, why not." I smiled.

I might have been kicked out of OR today and embarrassed in front of our colleagues. At least in the end, I was right and got an attending apologized to me. The only thing that was the back of my mind and making me guilty was, Alex. Something about that man just made me, ugh, I don't know. I do know is that I DO NOT like him like boyfriend materially, just like he was a really good friend or something. I just wanted him to change, that's all. And I know that people can't change over-night, but if he could only just try. For now, I am going to enjoy some champagne with my roommates and get drunk tonight.
