It was a tough pregnancy. Lindsay knew that. Her doctor told her to take it slow but how could she when she had a busy job as a police officer. Her doctor had asked her if the father was around, she of course said no, and her smile sank as she saw the look of disgust on that man's face. It was going to be tough but she was determined to do it, to make her little boy proud of her. She, of course, had grown up without a father but her mother had been there for her and she was determined to give this child the love of two parents. It had been a hard labour but with her mother at her side, holding her hand, cheering her on it went great, and when she saw his little blue eyes looking up at her for the first time her heart melted and she had promised from then on that she would do everything in her power to keep him safe.
She watched as he grew up to be a fun loving and spunky child. One who hugged her so tightly when she dropped him off at school. To him being as proud as punch to get a role as the sheep in the school nativity or his breakout role as a shepherd. Her and her mother proudly watched on as he stole the show and showered him with praise when he came off and told him how proud they were of him. She watched as he grew up into a teenager and then an adult with a strong sense of moral justice, always knowing right from wrong and standing up for what he believed in. One who held her just as tightly when her own mother died and cried with her as they both said goodbye together.
She watched as he grew into a young adult who would drop by her work for a chat, a man who would talk to Kate and Steve on the way up to ask her colleagues how they were doing. She watched as he told her of his own aspiration to join the police force which grew with every passing day. Of how he wanted to make a difference in the community and help out people in trouble.
She watched as he turned into a husband and a father. A man who loved and supported his wife and his sons. The best version of the man that he could be. She would watch as he played with them in the garden, happy knowing that he had never turned into his own biological father. That he was a man who was actually there for his children, to care for his children, when they needed love and support. She watched them all play together in the snow with her daughter in law as they were curled up on the couch after Christmas dinner and as she closed her eyes for the last time, she was so proud of the man he had become.
Lindsay Elizabeth Denton died peacefully surrounded by family on the 25th of December 2052.
