First! A warning for this chapter! Large wounds and blood, and a little bit of angst!
Alright! Also I wanted to ask if any of you would be interested in a Good Omens story? It would follow much of the main plot of the show, and I have a few small ideas for it, but I want to know if anyone would be interested before I get to writing it!
And I know this chapter is a little shorter so I'm sorry for that!
But I hope you do all enjoy! Even if its a bit angsty but I'm sort of going off my own experiences with really bad pain and how it affects me mentally and physically, and I know its not the same for everyone, so I know this may be a bit odd.
Thank you all also for the love! From the reviews to the favs/follows, I love you all so much!
Now onto the chapter!
I groan softly as I slowly start to wake, my back and shoulder aching heavily, I stay still for a while, too tired to move, but soon my stomach starts to growl, I sigh softly and slowly open my eyes tiredly, seeing I'm still in our bed, but the Doctor is gone, I frown a little and slowly roll over to face the door, I pause seeing a note on the bedside table.
I very slowly sit up, wincing as it pulls on the wounds, but I gently pick up the note and smile a little 'Rose, I'm sorry I can't be here when you wake up, Ive gone to check up on Martha and make some food for when you're up'
I smile softly and fold the note up and stick it into my pocket before I very slowly manage to stand, holding my breath as the movement was extremely painful, but I get up and I lean on the wall a little, I wince as my arm seems to burn a little, I look down at it to see the clocks hands were spinning rapidly for a few moments before it settles, hour on 3 and minute on 1.
I sigh softly and shake my head 'one more hour gone...'
I carefully pull on my coat, as I was a bit cold but I didn't want to try and pull on a shirt over my head, I quietly head out toward the kitchen, the pain continuing to pulse and radiate from the wounds but I try to ignore it as much as possible, I soon find the kitchen door and I gently pat the wall in a silent thanks before entering, I smile a little seeing the Doctor and Martha at the counter, talking as he makes food.
I clear my throat softly to announce my presence, Martha whirls around and smiles widely seeing me, she rushes over and grabs my hands gently "you're awake! What are you doing up? You should have sent for one of us" she says quickly, making me sit in the chair at the table, I giggle a little and smile up at her softly "I'm alright Martha, it's merely a flesh wound" I say softly.
I hear the Doctor snort in amusement as she rolls her eyes "you are impossible" she jokes, I smile more and nod.
"It's sort of in my job description at this point" I say softly as she heads back to make some tea, I go to lean back in my chair but wince and quickly sit back up straight, a white hot flash of pain spiking at the contact of my back with the chair.
I sigh softly and try to calm my racing heart before my eyes widen, I look up to the Doctor sadly, the music was starting already "looks like it's time for me to leave..." I murmur sadly, the Doctor looks over with wide sad eyes, he comes over and crouches in front of me, taking my hands in his.
"I'm so sorry, I wish there was a way for me to stop this, please be very careful, I think I know where you are going" he says sadly, I nod a little and gently squeeze his hands, smiling a little sadly.
"You be careful as well ok? Both of you" I say seriously, looking to Martha as she watches worriedly, I look back to the Doctor.
"I love you, I'll see you soon, you'll probably see me within a few hours" I smile gently as he smiles sadly, he stands and very gently pulls me to my feet, I gently grip his jacket and he leans down, pulling me into a gentle kiss as the music gets louder and louder, I tighten my grip on him, desperate to not go, deepening the kiss before the music gets overwhelmingly loud and I'm left alone in the dark.
I sigh shakily, dropping my hands and looking around sadly before I look down to my left arm, pulling my sleeve up out of the way to see the new small tattoo of the Lazarus Laboratories logo, I grimace a little before sighing and letting the sleeve fall back into place.
I rub my eyes a little before opening them, I stiffen as I hear talking, I look around to find myself in a small rock formation near a forest, I see a tiny cave entrance in the stones, I frown and slowly make my way over, my eyes widen as I realize where I am.
Four people come up and out of the cave, I jump back and gasp in pain before I realize who they are, Ian, Barbara, Susan and the Doctor look up at my gasp quickly, I sigh in relief and quickly motion for them to follow, before quickly heading into the forest, buttoning up my coat to hide my wounds.
They follow quickly and quietly for now, too afraid of the cavemen to speak for a while before we have to stop, the Doctor leaning against a tree to get his breath back.
"Stop. Just a minute, let me get my..." he says breathlessly, Ian goes up to him quickly "we can't stop here"
"Just a moment" the Doctor says again, I nod a little, hiding my shaking hands in my pockets.
"We can stop for a moment, but we must be gone soon" I say softly, causing them all to look at me, I stiffen a little nervously and meet the Doctors suspicions eyes.
"And how...how did you get here?" He asks, I sigh softly.
"Remember what I told you not too long ago? How I jump around time?" I ask, they all nod, Susan going to stand with her grandfather, I motion for us to continue and I start to walk, hearing them follow as I talk.
"Well, that was months ago for me, more than 6 I think, and I've just jumped back to now, so lets keep going" I say quickly, glad my voice was steadier than I felt, I can't make us slow down.
I look to Ian and Barbara "do you recognize any of this?" I ask seriously, they both look around and Barbara shakes her head desperately "I can't remember" she says disheartened.
"It's alright, we will find our way back, I promise, it just may take some time" I say softy, smiling back at her gently as Ian comforts her.
Around us the night sounds of the forest are unsettling but I shrug it off for now, I couldn't really do anything to protect us right now, besides my foreknowledge so I try to remember what was going to happen next.
We soon have to stop again to breath, I lean my side against a tree shakily as the others talk, remembering seeing this place, I close my eyes shakily, I had started to feel extremely dizzy and sick not long ago, probably from the pain, I close my eyes and try to breath, to calm down.
I look up shakily as I hear Barbara gasp in fear, seeing the others huddled near each other, looking where she was.
"What's the matter?" Ian asks worriedly.
"I don't know. I saw something. Over there in the bushes" she insists shakily.
"Oh, what nonsense" the Doctor dismisses, though he keeps his eyes on the bushes closely, holding Susan to him protectively.
"The bushes moved. I saw them. I saw them! Oh we're never going to get out of this awful place!" Barbara cries "never. Never. Never!"
I sigh softly and slowly stand back upright "what do you think it could have been?" Susan asks quickly as Ian comforts Barbara.
"Sheer nonsense, child. Imagination" the Doctor says, I shake my head, moving to stand a little nearer them.
"She wasn't imagining anything Theta" I say seriously, he sends me a scathing glare, I shake my head again and look to the bushes cautiously.
"Kindly do not call me that again" he says, I look back to him before sighing and nodding softly.
I look to Susan worriedly seeing how cold she is, I sigh and move away from the group a little as another wave of nausea hits me, I try to ignore their bickering as I lean against a tree, trying to not throw up from the pain.
I close my eyes tightly 'breath in. Breath out. Breath in. Breath out' I tell myself over and over, until I hear Barbara suddenly crying, I stand straight and quickly go after them, wincing when I see the dead animal near them, I shiver a little and look around us, looking for where the caveman would be, my heart racing now, adrenaline spiking.
As the others get up and move I quickly follow after them, getting us away from the carcass and the ones following us, we hide quickly and watch as they come into the small clearing we had been in, I quietly lean against the tree as I watch.
My eyes widen when the man is suddenly attacked by a giant creature, I see the others panicking and I lean down painfully, grabbing a rock and chucking it at the creature, hitting it in the head hard and that gives the man enough time to drive his axe into the things head, I make my way over as fast as I can, kneeling next to the man as he writhes in pain, I nearly get hit by the woman at the mans side, I raise my hands quickly as I meet her eyes.
"I am not going to hurt him, I want to help" I say softly, she looks up at the others behind me, fearfully.
"They will not hurt you, none of us want to hurt any of you" I say softly, she looks back to me shakily, holding her sharpened stone high in case she needed to strike, I keep our eyes locked.
"Please, I am a friend, I can help, my friends can as well" I explain, she watches me closely, her hand shaking a little "friend..?" She asks, I nod again.
"yes, we are friends, now I need you to get me some water, water will help his wounds" I explain, she slowly nods and Barbara comes over quickly to help her, the woman leads her off quickly after Ian gives her his handkerchief.
I very carefully move the skins the man wears away from the wounds, my heart racing as I look at them closer, making me feel more sick but I push through it.
As the women return I gently take the water filled cloth and very gently squeeze it onto the wounds before I start to carefully dap and wipe away at the wounds before I start to feel light headed, my back flaring up, I stand shakily and hand the cloth to Ian "keep working please..." I say shakily before moving away as he gets to work, I lean against another tree not too far off.
Closing my eyes in pain before I hear them talking behind me, I try to focus in on the conversation "these people have logic and reason, have they? Can't you see their minds change as rapidly as night and day? She's probably telling the whole tribe at this very moment" The Doctor asks snarkily, I frown and turn back to them, slowly coming back over.
"Doctor, they aren't savages, they are human, like children, scared children, do not be so hateful, I thought Doctor's are supposed to help, and I know you are not a medical Doctor, but your promise, your name, its a promise to help" I say seriously, he meets my eyes, his own a little wide as he watches me cautiously.
"You are but a child, you do not know what you are talking about" he retorts, I frown sadly as I watch him "Doctor, I know exactly what I'm talking about, I know you, better than most, and I'm asking you, fulfill your promise, never be cruel or cowardly, never give up, never give in" I say softly, he glares at me a little before there is a commotion behind us, I look over and frown seeing the others trying to explain to the cave woman that we wanted to help.
I sigh shakily and the Doctor goes over to them, he leans down to pick something up and my eyes widen seeing its a sharp rock, I jump forward, grabbing his arm to stop him quickly as Ian hadn't noticed yet, I glare up at the old man in front of me.
"Don't you even dare" I snap dangerously, he glares back down at me, shoving me off, making me stumble and my back hits a tree, I cry out in pain, sinking to my hands and knees as I gasp, shaking and trying to not pass out as my vision fades in and out.
I hear the others bickering before there is a hand on my arm, I flinch away and look up quickly only to see the worried eyes of Susan, I sigh shakily and she helps me sit up worriedly, I glare at the Doctor as he helps move the man onto the stretcher they made.
"Are you alright?" Susan asks worriedly, I nod a little and try to smile at her, not wanting her to worry but she only looks more concerned "you're white as a sheet" she says softly, I sigh and very slowly stand, Susan helping me up.
"Let's just get back home" I murmur softly, she nods and goes to help the others as we head off back toward the Tardis, I trail behind a little, stumbling a few times and having to stop more often than the others, until I can only hear them far off.
I stand and continue on shakily, my head pounding painfully to add to the mounting pain.
My eyes widen as I soon get close enough to see the group surrounded by cavemen again, I hide behind a tree quickly, trying to stay quiet, my heart racing, I see they are forced to go back to the tribe, I slowly follow, trying to stay out of sight as best I can, I get back in time to see the tribe driving out the bad man who had tried to take over the tribe.
I sigh shakily and the group is soon returned to the cave of skulls, I shake my head again before moving around the hill to the other end of the cave, being careful and quiet to not get the cavemen's attention.
I frown seeing the back entrance being guarded as well now, I stay hidden behind the trees as I watch nervously.
'They should be making fire now...' my eyes widen as I see someone knock out the guard and sneak inside, I grab a largish stick and quickly go to the small mouth of the cave.
My eyes widen as I see the men fighting inside, I jump down and drop the stick, nearly falling to my knees in the process, quickly going to the group and gently grabbing Susans shoulder, she looks back in fear before relaxing as she sees its only me, we look back to the fight, I shiver a little watching the violence.
As the winner grabs a large stone from the ground I quickly force Susan to look to me, covering her so she can't see as the stone hits the losers head, killing him instantly, I sigh shakily as Susan clings to my jacket tightly.
I jump hearing the tribe outside yelling, I frown as Ian gives the leader the fire and they fight for a moment before the leader leaves, I let Susan go nervously and we listen closely to the sounds outside, we soon hear them calming down and the others make another fire to keep warm, I move to the wall away from the others, trying to ignore the angry eyes of the Time Lord.
I try to ignore as they talk amongst themselves, closing my eyes tiredly and slowly falling asleep there against the wall, not realizing the sand and dirt beneath me were starting to get covered in blood from my wounds.
However I soon wake up and see the leader of the tribe talking with them, I shake my head and frown, wincing as I stretch out my back a little as the others come up with a plan, I keep my distance as they work, knowing I have very little help I can offer, but as soon as the plan is set up we hide, I slowly get to my feet and the cavemen come into the cave, screaming and gasping in fear at the five burning skulls on the ground, we make a run for it then.
I manage to keep up for a ways as we run back toward the Tardis, but its not long before I start to lag behind, my energy drained and starting to feel extremely sick and dizzy again.
I start to lose sight of the others in front of me and soon I'm stumbling along by myself, nearly falling every few feet, I start to feel hopeless 'the Doctor won't wait for me, they have probably already gone...'
I gasp in fear as I'm grabbed, I look up and sigh in relief, as Susan had come back for me, I smile shakily at her and she quickly helps me the rest of the way, out of the forest and into the desert, we get into the Tardis and the doors close behind us.
"Susan, never do something so stupid again!" The Doctor calls angrily, I sigh and lean against the wall as the others get us flying quickly, I shakily slide down the wall, my vision going in and out before I start to lose the battle, blood soaking the floor beneath me, I can feel someone shaking me but I cant muster the energy to stay awake, slipping into unconsciousness.
I gasp shakily as I wake up, hard ground under me, pressing painfully into my back, I whimper in pain and slowly roll onto my side only to feel dirt and gravel under me, I shakily open my eyes and look around, frowning as I see I'm outside in the country.
I very slowly sit up, looking behind me to see the entrance to some sort of underground building, a large concrete tube used as the main entrance with a gate and guards in front of it, as well as many huge pipes going inside as well along the walls, I stumble to my feet, not realizing my jacket was now dripping in blood.
I stumble toward the guards, my vision fuzzing in and out every now and then, but I push on 'they can help...they have to...'
I get closer and one of the guards cautiously comes up to me "I'm sorry miss, this is a restricted area" he says, I nod shakily.
"I can tell...but I need help, please..." I plead shakily, gripping onto his arm as I nearly fall over, he looks me over quickly, noticing how white I am, and then the blood stained coat wrapped tightly around me.
The next few minutes is a haze, I'm brought inside and laid down on a couch in a small staff room, one of the men leaving and the other stays, trying to keep me awake.
I look up at him shakily as he makes me sit up "we need to see where you're bleeding from, let me take off your coat" he says but I shake my head quickly.
"No, no I'm ok, I just need to find someone..." I mumble shakily, rubbing my eyes to try and wake up more.
He sighs "Miss, you're bleeding, badly, let us help you" he insists, I shake my head again and look to him a little afraid.
"No...please, just wait, I don't know where or when I am...I have to find my friend" I plead, he frowns more worriedly.
"You don't know..?" He asks
I nod shakily "I know I'm in the UK by your accent...but nothing else" I say softly, looking down at my hands shakily to see a bit of mud and blood on them.
"Miss, what year do you think it is?" He asks, I look up to him again and glance around nervously, trying to date the furniture and clothing but my mind feels too fuzzy, I shake my head again.
"I don't know...are we past the 60s?" I ask, he nods softly and I relax a little.
He stands and goes to grab me a glass of water before returning and handing it to me, I thank him shakily and take a few sips, glancing around again and again.
I look to the officer again "where am I? I know in the UK but really, where? What is this building used for?" I ask softly, he looks a little nervous now as he watches me.
"This is the control center for our space missions" he says, I frown now as I watch him, taking a moment for my brain to process the information, the blood loss not helping matters.
I set the glass down shakily before I dropped it "has an older man come here? He goes around with a woman with orange-ish hair, he drives a yellow car" I explain hopefully, he nods quickly.
"Yes, I believe he has been here multiple times, I believe he is out right now" I nod shakily before the door opens, the places doctor runs in, seeing the blood all over me he has me remove my jacket, I look back to the men nervously though I knew I had to have help, the doctor helps me remove it only to gasp, seeing the bandages completely soaked through, I am laid down on my stomach on the couch and I start to zone in and out.
Trying to ignore the searing pain as the bandages are removed, the doctor gets to work, I whimper in pain as he starts to stitch up the larger areas of the wound, the pain making me nearly pass out multiple times as they didn't have enough time to use any numbing agents besides topical ones.
It takes a while before he finishes, then he cleans the blood away carefully, I whimper again and grip the cushion under me, gritting my teeth and clenching my eyes closed.
As the doctor gets to covering the wounds with gauze he speaks "how did you get these Miss? These wounds are bad, you could have died had you not gotten help in time" he says worriedly, I sigh shakily, keeping my eyes closed as I answer.
"I was attacked...and dropped here" I explain softly, he seems to pause for a moment.
"who attacked you? And some of these look fresher than others, and it seems the largest was recently ripped open again from a violent movement" he says, I frown shakily and nod.
"Yes...some are about a day old...the others are new from the last few hours" I murmur shakily, trying to even out my breathing, not wanting to throw up or pass out again.
"Miss, who did this to you? Surely they cannot be far away, perhaps we can get the police to track them down" he says, I shake my head "they are so far away...they won't be caught for many many years" I say shakily.
He sighs softly and carefully wraps the wounds back up as they had been before, gently making me sit up so he could work "is there anyone we can contact for you? Any family or friends?" He asks, I nod shakily before stopping and frowning.
"Wait...what has happened today?" I ask softly, the doctor had let the soldiers back inside and they all look at me confused.
I look up to them quickly "has a spaceship been brought in, a capsule I mean?" I ask softly, the guards nod and I sigh softly, rubbing my forehead as I think "ok...I need to stay out of the way then...is there possibly a way to get me to Cardiff?"
The doctor shakes his head "no, not right now, what about this man you know who is here? The guard told me a friend of yours is here" he asks, I shake my head quickly.
"No! No he cannot know I am here" I say seriously, the men all look confused and slightly nervous now, I look down quickly "he cannot know I am here, he needs to focus on his mission" I say seriously, watching as my hands shake badly in my lap, the doctor sighs softly.
"Miss, even if he is a little busy we must inform him, you need to be taken to the nearest hospital as soon as possible, you have lost so much blood it's a miracle you are awake" he says, I shake my head again and look up at them with wide eyes, my heart sinking.
'I'm not human...what would human blood do to me...?'
I shakily stand "no, you must take me to UNIT's headquarters, I can get help there, but I cannot go to a hospital...please" I plead, one of the men grabs my arm gently to help me stay standing, I lean against him a little shakily, closing my eyes and just breathing for a moment before the doctor makes me sit back down.
"Miss...goodness what is your name? Forgive me, I forgot to ask" the doctor says, I sigh softly and shake my head but manage a small smile "I'm Rose...sorry I never said" I say softly, he watches me curiously.
"No last name?" He asks, I hesitate but shake my head softly 'I can't use Smith yet, not around him when he's this young'
"No...no family so no family name" I say softly, he slowly nods, looking a little suspicious now though.
"Are you a United Kingdom's citizen?" He asks, I hesitate before shaking my head softly, starting to get really nervous now.
"no...I'm not...I'm not really a citizen of anywhere...more so just a traveler..." I say nervously, knowing with my wounds and blood loss I couldn't run very far if I had to.
They look between themselves before one of the guards leaves, I look up shakily, my heart sinking nervously as the doctor goes to make a call, I shakily make it to my feet, but the other guard comes over and tries to make me sit back down, I step back away from him quickly, trying to stay upright.
"Don't...please, I need to go, I must get to either Cardiff or UNIT headquarters now, I can get help at both places, I must go" I say seriously, backing away toward the door shakily.
The doctor looks over and suddenly yells "grab her! Do not let her go!" I make a break for the doors, pain shooting through my whole body but I try to push through it, shoving through the door and making a run for the exit, seeing daylight but I'm grabbed, I scream and try to fight off the guard only to be shoved into a wall, I yelp in pain and stare up at the man in fear, my hands shaking badly again.
"Please! I just want to go home, I don't want to interrupt the Doctors work, and I just want to go and rest" I plead shakily.
The guard pulls his gun and holds it up to keep me there, I whimper shakily and hold my hands to my chest shakily, keeping my eyes on his gun.
"I'm sorry miss but you must come back, we have a few questions to ask you" he says seriously, I shake my head again.
"I can't answer anything until this is all over, I have to wait for the Doctor, its what I'm here for, but he must not be interrupted, his work is very very important, and if he sees I'm here it could mess things up!" I say seriously, my voice cracking shakily, I see behind the man a blue van with a white top drive by, my eyes widen, remembering this part.
I shove the gun away as fast as I can and make a run after the van, seeing the UNIT men at the gate ahead starting to let it through "stop! Stop the van!" I yell as loud as I can, continuing to run as fast as I can while shouting, but the van gets through and the guard catches up, grabbing me and pulling me to a stop.
"Stop this nonsense! Come back" he snaps angrily, I glare up at him angrily "that van just drove off with my friend!" I snap before heading back down the tunnel, farther inside, the guard follows quickly with his gun still held up, I lean against the wall after a minute, getting a wave of dizziness, I rub my eyes shakily and look to the guard seriously.
"Miss, you have to come back, we want to ask you more questions" he says, I shake my head quickly and glare at him, shoving the barrel of the gun away again.
"No, I am going to go and speak with the Brigadier, I know he is inside, and also, the gun isn't going to help you, it will only make me angrier" I snap before continuing on, the guard watched confused for a moment before he sighs, putting his gun away and coming to my side, leading me inside the center.
My adrenaline levels start to drop and my exhaustion hits me hard, I have to lean on the guard for support as he gets me inside, we enter the control room to see a man in uniform yelling at the Brigadier and the control center head man, I glare at the uniformed man as I'm helped to the railing above them.
"You're being deliberately unhelpful, Brigadier" the man snaps "I intent to have this Doctor investigated"
I smirk a little at that, leaning heavily on the railing "I think you will find nothing on him sir, though I don't doubt you will still check, now leave these men alone to get along with their work, you are being unhelpful and a hindrance" I tell him seriously.
Both other men look to me confused before the Brigadier smiles seeing its me, I smile down at him then look back to the General I think he is?
"We shall have to find him before you can investigate anyways" I say, trying to look casual in my leaning, glad I had put my coat back on, even if it was blood stained on the back, from the front it looked a little more normal.
The man glares up at me "who are you? And Brigadier, the sooner you find him the better. If he has any explanation to offer as to what that object is, we need to know it at once. Contact me as soon as you find him" he snaps, seeming to just ignore me now as he goes to walk off, the control center man is leaning casually back in his chair as he speaks.
"General? How did the Security Council meeting in Geneva go?" He asks.
"Complete waste of time. They're still debating"
"And what do you think they should do?" Asks the first man again.
"Arm every available missile with atomic warheads and blast that thing out of our skies" the General snaps.
"Isn't that a bit extreme?" I nod in agreement and watch the General.
"It's our moral duty" the General snaps, I raise my eyebrow.
"Is it really sir? Because I think you have got it wrong, it is not anyone's moral duty to kill other beings, you just want war" I snap.
The General glares up at me "get her out of here" he snaps before storming off, as soon as he's gone I slouch against the railing shakily, my whole body shaking now from the pain that I had been hiding, Alastair looks back up to me and his eyes widen a little to see how sick I look.
He quickly comes up the stairs worriedly "Rose, what the devil has happened to you?" He asks worriedly, I smile shakily up at him.
"Just that, the devil happened to me, but I'll be ok, I'm all stitched up now, I want to help" I explain but the guard behind me steps forward quickly.
"I'm sorry sir, we were just trying to get her to go to the hospital, she has lost too much blood and she can barely stay conscious" he explains, Alistair looks back to me quickly "how long have you been here?" He asks me seriously, I grimace a little.
"Maybe an hour...?" I murmur, he frowns more "why didn't you come to see me right away?" He asks quickly.
"Because I didn't know if I was early or late, and if I was early I didn't want the Doctor seeing me" I say seriously, he frowns more at that.
"Why don't you want him to see you?" He asks, I sigh softly "because he would want to help me, it would distract him, and I can't do that" I explain.
He shakes his head and he nods to the guard "thank you, I will take it from here, would you send for one of my men to come here?" He asks, the guard nods and runs off, I frown a little nervously now and look up at Alistair.
"We have to find the Doctor, don't worry about me" I say quickly, he rolls his eyes.
"Rose, you've known me long enough I am not going to do that, we need to get you to the hospital, as soon as possible, if the doctor said you've lost too much blood then we need to take care of that" he says, I shake my head quickly.
"No! No Alistair you can't" I say quickly, my heart racing again as I look up at him fearfully, he frowns, seeing my genuine fear.
"Rose, if you are that injured then we must help you" he says, I shake my head quickly.
"No, only the Doctor can help me, I..." I hesitate, glancing to the other man in the room nervously before looking back to Alistair, deciding it didn't matter at the moment to hide.
"I am not human Alistair, not anymore, we don't know what human blood would do to me" I say seriously, ignoring the shocked look from the other man, Alistair sighs softly.
"Then what am I to do? We don't have any other way to help you" he says worriedly, seeing the amount of blood on my coat and now my pants.
I sigh softly "Alistair pease...just work on finding the Doctor, if I need help I will ask, I promise, but I'm ok for right now, the human doctor here has bandaged and stitched me up for now, so I should be ok for a while, just get him home" I plead softly, he nods slowly and sighs.
"Alright, then I will be sending you back to HQ, it will be safest for you there, you should be able to get into the Tardis?" He asks, I nod softly.
"I will yes, thank you, and please be very careful" I say softly, he nods and one of his men comes, leading me away carefully and out to one of their cars, I'm helped in before we drive off, I glance back behind us and frown as I watch the tunnel disappear behind us, I sigh softly and lean back tiredly, exhaustion taking over again and I'm soon asleep in the car.
Once we arrive at HQ I am woken up and I stumble inside tiredly, going to the Doctors lab, I hesitate as I see the Tardis, smiling tiredly at her before I grab a piece of paper, writing a note for when the Doctor returned before I head inside.
I smile sadly and pat the console tiredly as she hums worriedly around me "I'm ok...for now, I just want to sleep...but I'm not going to until the Doctor returns and I know he's ok" I say softly, she hums loudly again and I head off to my room slowly, glad she moved it to right outside the console room, I get inside and shakily take off the coat, letting it hit the ground uncaringly as the movement of my shoulders was more painful than I expected.
I gasp and shakily sit down on my bed, wincing and trying to let the pain pass, once it seems to relax a little I stand slowly and manage to change into a pair of basketball shorts, wanting to be comfortable while I rested, and a button up shirt that was a little too big on me, but it was perfect for now, as I didn't need help putting it on.
I sigh softly before groaning as my stomach growls hungrily, I shake my head and slowly pull on a robe and head toward the kitchen, everything aching and the pressing of the clothes over the bandaged wounds was uncomfortable.
I get into the kitchen and can't help but smile a little seeing a plate of food already made on the table, with both pain meds and my medication sitting next to it with a glass of water, I gently pat the wall softly.
"Thank you Sexy...I think I would have passed out if I tried to make anything" I murmur before slowly sinking into my chair, taking the meds before I eat as fast as I could, not wanting a wave of nausea to hit while I ate, and also wanting to get to sleep faster.
Once I finish I slowly stand, heading back toward my room before I hear quick footsteps, I pause and look behind me down the hallway only to see the Doctor coming around the corner, his cape flowing out behind him.
I sigh in relief to see him alright, smiling a little but I frown seeing how worried he looks "Doctor? Are you alright?" I ask worriedly as he comes up to me, grabbing my upper arms very gently.
"Rose, are you alright? the Brigadier said you were injured, and badly, what happened? Was it the guards?" He asks quickly, moving one hand up to cup my cheek softly, I stare up into his wide worried eyes before smiling a little, I shake my head softly, gently gripping his arms.
"No, it wasn't anyone here, I'm ok" I say softly but he narrows his eyes at me, tightening his grip on my arms.
"Do not lie to me Rose" he snaps, I frown a little before sighing softly, looking down.
"I'm...I'm in a lot of pain...I was attacked and got hit by...something, on my back, it ripped through my whole back basically...then I was also thrown against a hard surface...twice...I lost a lot of blood..." I admit, not looking up to meet his eyes, my hands shaking just slightly as they grip onto his jacket sleeves, he sighs softly and leans down, gently kissing the top of my head.
"Come to the sickbay with me, we can get it sorted" he says, gently taking my hand and starting off, I smile a little and follow, moving slowly and being very careful to not move my shoulder too much, he keeps a tight hold on my hand but he moves slow so as to not push me much.
Once we get to the medical bay he carefully helps me up onto the bed and goes to grab something, I take off my robe carefully, hissing in pain at the movements before relaxing as much as I can, watching the Doctor nervously.
He comes back over with a scanner, looking down at its small screen as he speaks "why did you not come and get me when you arrived? The Brigadier tells me you have been here for a good few hours now" he looks up at me.
I frown a little and look down "because you had work to do to save those alien ambassadors, and I can wait, I wasn't in mortal danger" I say softly but I can feel him watching me closely.
"We do not know if you were in mortal danger yet, you should have come to get me" he says seriously, I frown a little and shake my head "I would have just been a hinderance, and I'm alive, there shouldn't be a problem here" I murmur softly.
I stiffen as he comes closer, gently gripping my chin and making me look up into his eyes, I hold my breath, seeing the overwhelming worry and fear in his eyes.
"Rose..." he sighs softly, his shoulders slumping a little sadly, I frown worriedly as I watch him "My dear, do not talk like that, you are never a hinderance, if you were hurt I would help you, you are my first priority on this planet" he says softly, I stiffen and shake my head a little.
"Doctor thats a problem, your first priority should be to keep this planet safe, I am not worth risking everyone here" I say softly, he drops his hand from my face and walks around to stand behind me, muttering something softly, something I'm positive he didn't mean for me to hear "you are to me" causing me to blush heavily, I face straight forward shakily.
He very gently presses the scanner to the back of my neck, pressing a button as it seems to scan over my back, I stay stiff, my heart racing but I try and calm down, not wanting to let him know I heard him, I gulp shakily as he stays silent behind me.
"Is...is it bad?" I ask softly, trying to change the subject quickly.
He doesn't answer my question when he speaks "what gave you all of this? Or who?" He asks worriedly, I shiver a little, keeping my eyes on the floor in front of me.
"Things I can't tell you about..." I reply softly, he scoffs suddenly.
"Enough with this spoiler rubbish, tell me what happened Rose" he says seriously, I shake my head again.
"I can't, I'm sorry, but it's your future, all I can tell you is I wasn't poisoned or bitten by something venomous, so nothing is in my bloodstream except maybe a bit of dirt from the wound..." I murmur softly.
He shakes his head and sets the scanner down on the bed next to me "let me see the wounds" he says seriously, I shiver a little and my nerves start to return, I shake my head softly.
"No, really I'm ok, the on sight doctor took care of it for me, he stitched and bandaged me up" I say nervously
He scoffs again "Rose, that is primitive human technology, let me see" he insists, I give in, shakily unbuttoning my shirt and whimpering as I try to pull it off, it gets stuck on the bandages and I have to stop and breath shakily, until I feel him very gently pulling it off my arms, making sure to get it off with as little pain to me as possible, now I'm just in my shorts, sports bra and the bandages, I blush a little and look down quickly, grimacing seeing my stomach sticking out and my sides muffin topping a little, as well as the rolls along my sides and front in my sitting position.
'Great...now he has to see this...ugh...I really need to work out more...'
I zone back in to pain, gasping and flinching away from the Doctors touch as he had tried to get the bandages off, he frowns as I breath shakily.
"I have to take them off to get a better look, I'm sorry, I have some numbing agents but I must remove this first, then I can numb you up, provided your body reacts to them well" he explains, I nod shakily and take a deep breath in before holding my breath, I hold my hands up a little in front of me, pushing hard on a pressure point between my thumb and forefinger to ignore the pain in my back as he gets the rest of the large bandage off.
I gasp as its off, shivering a little as the cool air hits my back, I close my eyes tightly as he looks over my back, knowing it probably looked like a mess.
He tosses the old bandages away and comes over to stand in front of me, I look up at him nervously as he speaks "I'm going to need you to lay down, I want to do a few more quick scans then I can get to fixing it properly" he says softly, I nod shakily and look down quickly, he frowns softly and seems to get an idea, he comes closer and holds both of his hands up toward my forehead, but he stops a few inches away as I look up at him nervously.
"I can put you to sleep without the worry of you not waking up" he explains, I nod a little and sigh shakily "ok...just...yeah" I murmur, my hands shaking worse now from fear and the pain mixed.
He seems to see how scared I am and he gently cups my face with both his hands, I look up at him confused and he smiles gently down at me "I will be careful, you won't feel anything, I promise, you will just be sore when you wake up" he says softly, I nod a little nervously and he softly kisses my forehead, I close my eyes at the contact before he moves his hands up to my temples.
"When you wake up, I want to have a talk with you" he says softly before everything goes dark, I slump forward and the Doctor lays me down and gets to work quickly.
In what feels like no time I start to wake up, wincing as my whole back ached, I try to spread out a little under the blankets, not wanting to stretch out the wound anymore, but I stop as I feel something, I look up a little confused, my vision blurry but I can make out someone sitting in a chair next to the bed, a hand holding onto mine tightly.
I rub my eyes with my free hand and focus back on him, he seems to be asleep, clutching onto my hand tightly, I smile a little tiredly and relax, laying my head back down on my pillow tiredly, glancing around to see I'm back in my own room.
I close my eyes and sigh, wincing as the large movement of my chest caused a bit of pain in my back, I shiver a little and gently tighten my hold on the Doctor's hand before relaxing again and closing my eyes tiredly, starting to just doze off, wanting to get a little more rest.
After falling asleep again I only wake up when I feel movement, I glance up tiredly to see the Doctor standing quietly trying to not wake me, I smile softly "thank you" I murmur softly, he looks down quickly, a bit surprised before smiling softly and sitting on the edge of the bed, he softly strokes my hair.
"How are you feeling, my dear?" He asks softly, I relax more and sigh softly.
"Exhausted and sore, but better, I don't feel so sick or faint" I say softly, he nods and smiles gently.
"Good. Good, I'm glad, do you want to try and eat something?" He asks, I pause as I think for a few moments, before shaking my head softly,
"I am hungry but I don't want to try and eat yet, then I'd have to move and I'd rather stay here for now" I say softly.
He nods again as he watches me before he speaks again.
"Now, I want to talk about yesterday" he says softly, I frown a little and sigh softly "I don't ever want you to hide away, especially if you are injured, you should not have waited" he says seriously "I want you to promise me you will always come and find me when you arrive, no matter what is happening" he continues.
I sigh again and wince as I very slowly move onto my side a little, looking up at him and smiling a little sadly "I can't promise that, you had to take care of the threat fast, if I had come to find you, you would have stopped to help me, but if you had stopped the earth would have been in danger, it's my job to help you, not get in the way of saving people" I say softly.
He shakes his head, meeting my eyes seriously "and it is my job to ensure you are safe, I made a promise long ago, a promise to keep you safe, and that is my first priority, the humans can save themselves most of the time with a little bit of help, I am not going to let them get in the way if you are hurt" he insists, I smile a little more and shake my head a little.
"Then we seem to be at an inpass, because if the time is important, I am not going to get in the way of that" I say softly, he shakes his head again and stands in frustration.
"Rose, you cannot just go around ignoring your own injuries for the sake of others, because one day you will do so and when you find me it will be too late..." he says, his back to me and his voice trailing off.
I frown a little as I watch him, my heart sinking "I can, and I will continue to, I am not important here, I shouldn't even be here, but I'm here anyways, so I will help where I can, and stay out of the way when I can't" I say softly.
"No! You will tell me when you are hurt, you will tell me when you need help" he suddenly snaps, I flinch and wince before he whirls around, looking down at me seriously.
"I want you to promise me, right now, that you will always tell me when you are hurt or need me" he says seriously, coming back closer to the bed, I watch him with slightly wide eyes, I hadn't expected him to care so much, or really worry about me this much.
I sigh softly "Doctor, I can't promise that...I'm sorry but if I promised that people could die, or get hurt, and I can't let people get hurt because of me, I'm not worth others lives, and I will always put other priorities first, the humans need you, they always have and always will, and I'm not going to stop you from helping them, or anyone else who needs you" I say softly, looking away, not being able to meet his eyes.
I hear rustling and I flinch in surprise as he is suddenly crouching next to the bed, looking at my face closely and he softly cups my cheek, I look up quickly to him, stiff and nervous as his eyes soften and suddenly look...sad, so terribly sad, I frown more.
"Rose, I cannot lose you" he murmurs softly, his voice raw with emotion as he looks deep into my eyes, like he's looking into my very being "I cannot lose my best friend, the person who has helped me through everything, has helped save my life, and hundreds of others, you are always there when I need you, let me be there for you" he pleads, I look away, trying to not let him see the tears filling my eyes, but I knew he could anyways, his thumb softly stroking over my cheek.
"But what if someone dies because of me...? What if we lose a fight because of me, or something horrible happens because of me..? I don't want that to ever happen" I murmur, he gently makes me look at him again.
"No one will die because of you, you yourself have told me, because you are here you have been able to save people that would have died in the future you see" he explains softly "and you have saved my life, more times than I can count, your knowledge and intuition has saved me, and others in the past, and I do not doubt it will save me in the future, I know you think you are a burden, but you are not, you never have been" he says, I have to blink away tears again as I watch him.
The honesty in his eyes was stunning, I have to just stare at him for a few moments as I try to process this all, before I realize I wouldn't win this, I sigh softly, closing my eyes and leaning into his hand a little, my heart racing a little faster "ok...I'll try, when I get hurt, I promise I will tell, unless it will slow you down, but any other time I will tell you" I say softly, it felt...odd, being so vulnerable in front of someone.
I hear him sigh softly and when I open my eyes again he's smiling softly down at me, still softly cupping my cheek with one hand "good girl, but remember this, please, I will always do everything I can to help you, no matter where or when" he says again, I nod a little and instinctively lean more into his hand, closing my eyes again tiredly, my exhaustion starting to hit me now.
He softly kisses my forehead before he stands, carefully pulling the blankets up over me "rest, I will be back in a while to check on you" he says softly, I nod a little, eyes still closed.
"Ok...be careful" I murmur tiredly as I start to doze off, not hearing as he quietly leaves, turning the dim lights all off to let me really rest.
