The Next Day

Sitting on the dock, Courtney sighed as she watched Noah continue to read his book. This is stupid. How am I supposed to win the bet when he won't even talk to me? She cleared her throat, but Noah did not respond to that. So, she started to wave her hands in front of Noah's face.

"Hello? Earth to Noah," said Courtney.

Noah read the last part of his sentence before putting down his book and raising an eye brow at Courtney. "What?"

"Oh, nothing," Courtney started off innocently. "Just that we have a bet to win," she shouted angrily.

Noah rolled his eyes. "Calm down. It's just a bet. Besides, he's not even around right now."

"I can see that he's not around right now," said Courtney who was starting to lose her patience. "Which means that we should be making a strategy of what we're going to do to win this bet. So, tell me, what are you going to do?"

"You want me to get into character now?" She nodded her head. "Fine then." He cleared his throat. "OH LOOK AT MY AWESOME GIRLFRIEND! LOOK AT HOW CUTE WE ARE! OMG LIFE WITHOUT HER IS JUST MEANINGLESS! LET US FLAUNT OUR RELATIONSHIP TO EVERYONE EVEN THOUGH NOBODY CARES!"

Courtney's mouth dropped open. He could not be serious. "What the heck was that!"

"What? You said to get into character. That's how couples at my school acted. Always flaunting about their relationship and how they were going to be together forever when in reality they only lasted for a few weeks. It's nauseating really."

She rolled her eyes. If she wanted to win this bet, she had to train Noah and fast. "Let's take a different approach on this." She looked over at Noah who had his face buried in his book again. Growling, she took the book and flung it.

"What the heck?"

"Look," she shouted. "I don't care whether or not you want to win this bet. I need to win. And that means that I will do whatever it takes to win. Got it?" Noah got wide eyed and nodded his head. "Good, now try again and be serious this time."

Noah looked nervously at Courtney before grabbing her hand. So far so good, thought Courtney. "So... Uh... Nice weather today," Noah stammered out.

...And there it went.

She pulled her hand away from Noah and glared at him. "You're useless! How am I supposed to make Duncan jealous when you can't even talk to me!"

Noah rolled his eyes. "Sorry that I never found relationships to be of any importance to me. I still think you can win this thing though."

"And why is that?"

Noah smirked. "Are you really that oblivious? That juvie drools over you more than my dog does to a piece of meat. He would probably get jealous just by seeing you even glance at me."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Well, if I'm not mistaken, I think that that's him over there at cabin glaring at us."

Courtney smirked. "I'm so winning this."

Duncan observed Noah and Courtney by the docks. He felt his blood boil when Courtney sat, held hands, or did anything with Noah.

Maybe it's nothing...

"Hey, do you think that Noah and Courtney have a thing," Geoff asked Duncan.

Duncan growled. Yeah, that nerd's dead.
