A Wolf in A Dog Pack
It was a rather quiet day for Sage and Macy, as they trekked down the halls of Plumber's HQ. Training had been a breeze and there hadn't been any meetings for the day. However, the good day soon came to an end.
"Well, well, if it isn't the show-offs," a cadet sneered, as his gang stood behind him. Sage recognized them immediately as the ones that had hurt his Uncle Kuphulu a month ago.
"Well, if it isn't the cadets who have no brains," Sage growled; the hair on the back of his neck standing up as his muscles tensed.
"Didn't you end up getting in trouble for some dumb trick on your own Plumber Magisters?" Macy commented, folding her arms.
"Eh, was worth it to deal with a traitor, thief, and criminal," the leader cackled.
Sage growled. "Hey! Watch it, that's my uncle you're talking about and I don't put up with anyone making fun of my family," he said, sternly, taking a step close to them.
"Oh, are we supposed to be afraid of an orphan weak puppy?"
"Okay, break it up!" Macy nearly shouted, getting between the cadet and Sage. "I am not gonna deal with a situation that involves amateur Plumbers acting like a bunch of Pre-school brats. And trust me, I should know from experience in handling them."
"Oh, this coming from a girl who can't even figure out her own battle suit," another cadet said.
Sage snarled, shifting to wolf form. "Don't. Insult. My. Girlfriend!"
"Allow me, Sage," Macy calmly said, placing a hand on her love's furry shoulder before stepping in front of the cadet. "At least I continue trying to make things right instead of waste time treating people like dirt and have nothing better to do, like you."
"Oh, we're only speaking the truth. Like how Whampire is being held back by that person he calls his lover."
Sage began to see red, his hackles rose up as his fangs were revealed.
"Along with that little...whiny-AHHHH!"
"SNARL!"
Sage snarled angrily, snatching the leader's arm in his teeth. No one insulted his family, especially not his mother or sister.
"SAGE! Let go of him!" Macy shouted.
Sage growled angrily; he was absolutely angry at all these people going off about his family. He had enough.
Reacting fast, Macy wrapped her arms around her Wolf and tried to pull him back plus get his grip off the Cadet.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! GET HIM OFF! GET HIM OFF! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" the cadet yelled and hollered.
"What does it look like I'm doing?! You just HAD to tick him off!" Macy remarked, still pulling Sage back.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?!" Rook shouted, showing up from the commotion. "SAGE, RELEASE!"
Sage let go, but snarled angrily; attempting to lunge forward again.
Macy sighed in relief when her boyfriend finally let go. "It's okay. Everything is okay," she kept telling Sage while petting him to calm down. Then, Macy shot a glare to the cadet and said, "No thanks to you, numskull!"
"Cadets, report. What is going on here?" Rook asked, sternly.
"That wild animal attacked me!" the leader shouted, clutching his arm.
Sage snarled, lunging at him again, only to be held back.
"Because you couldn't shut up about insulting him and his family!" Macy remarked, then faced Rook. "Magister, these cadets were bullying us by saying stuff to get under our skin, as if we're outcasts and don't belong. Even when all of that is nothing but lies."
Rook looked at Macy and Sage. The Revonnahgander stared at Sage. Seeing his nephew so angry was rare, he never attacked anyone to such degree. "What was said, Cadet Monroe?"
"First, he mentioned how Sage's uncle, Kuphulu, was nothing but a thief, criminal, and traitor. Second, called Sage an orphan weak puppy. Third, said how dumb I was in how I can't figure out my own battle suit. And finally, the rest were some personal stuff about Sage's parents and sister. That's when Sage attacked him," Macy explained.
Rook grew angry. "You three, detention block, now."
"But-but sir.."
"Now!" Rook yelled. The cadets quickly left, helping their friend get up and move. Turning to Sage and Macy, Sage still stood on edge. "Sage, I am disappointed."
Sage looked at Rook in shock. "Me!? They were insulting Macy, dad, my mother, your step-sister, and Megan! What was I supposed to do walk away?!"
"Yes, and come tell me. I would have handled it," Rook said, sternly.
Sage stared in disbelief, before snarling and running for the exit.
"Sage, wait!" Macy called out and tried to follow him, really worried.
Sage tore away not looking back.
"Macy, let him go. He is too angry right now," Rook said, holding her back.
"But Sage needs me! I can't just let him go! What if something bad happens to him?!" Macy argued.
"He will not go far. However, I need you to help me understand better about what happened, then we will both go and look for him," Rook said, calmly.
"What do you mean?! I told you everything!"
"Macy, listen. I need it in a report. I believe you, and I swear we will go after him," Rook said. "I need you to trust me. Okay?"
The Brunette let out an irritated sigh before looking at Rook, sternly. "Okay,"
Meanwhile, Sage was racing through town in his wolf form; his mind pained from the look in Rook's eyes. Why was he being strict with him?
"Uncle Rook can act angry and protective, but no one else." Sage mumbled under his breath as he slowed down to a walk. "Guess I'll just go home."
From a distance, a man between his thirty and forties saw Sage.
"Oh. Looks like another stray. Better round him up," he said, as he grabbed his dog catcher pole.
Sage sighed. 'Maybe I'll just stay home for a while seems only Dad and Mom want me around,' He thought to himself continuing his slow pace not noticing the man coming up behind him.
'Easy, now. Don't wanna startle him, Earl,' he thought to himself. When he was finally close, Earl used his pole to nab Sage around his neck and held him in place. "Gotcha!"
Sage barked, tossing and turning as he felt the noose tighten on his neck.
'Let me go!' Sage said to himself, as he barked, biting at the pole.
"You're not getting out of this one, Little Doggie. You're coming with me!" Earl responded sternly, he managed to yank plus toss him in a heavy-duty metal cage in the back of his truck.
Sage barked and growled, as the door was slammed shut. 'Oh, just brilliant. Like my day can't get any worse. Huh...guess I'll have to wait and see where I'm going, then call Macy,' he thought, before laying down.
Moments later, Sage was fighting against the Dog Catcher from getting in a kennel with the other dogs.
"Oooh, doggie! Aren't you a fighter!" Earl laughed, trying to steer his new prisoner to his cage.
Sage growled angrily yanking and twisting as he tried to shove the pole into the man. "I'll show you where to stick this pole." Sage growled to himself.
Eventually, Dog Catcher Earl managed to through Sage in the kennel and closed plus locked the door.
"I got to say, you have to be one of the toughest mutts I've ever wrangled," Earl said, moving his wrists a bit from the grip. "Now, you sit tight here. Enjoy while you can,"
Sage growled, lunging at the metal that made Earl back up a couple of steps before leaving.
'Great, just great,' Sage said, looking around the pen for a way to escape.
'So, new guy, where are you from?' a husky Irish voice asked in Sage's head.
Sage looked over, seeing a red border collie looking at him from across the walkway. 'Nowhere really...just wandering around, I guess,'
'Well, I'm Flash. What's your name, then?' Flash asked, wagging his tail.
'Sage,' Sage replied, not really paying attention.
'So, Sage, what breed are you, then?' he asked, in a continuously friendly voice.
'I'm not actually a dog. I'm a Wolfblood…a shape shifter. This is just a disguise for me,' Sage replied.
'Oh, really? Awesome. Well, let me introduce you to the rest of the gang,' Flash said, motioning to the other dogs in the kennels. 'The white German Shepherd is Ghost, the red Golden Retriever is Ranger, and the silver Northern Inuit there is Moonshadow.'
'Forgetting someone, Flash?'
Sage turned his head towards a mixed Black Labrador and Collie female dog. She rested her head on her crossed paws.
'No, I was saving you the best for last,' Flash retorted, before facing Sage. 'That's Bella. She's more of a mutt than a purebred.'
'And I'm fine with that. Thank you very much,' Bella remarked. She looked at Sage with her milky brown eyes. 'So, you're actually part human?'
'Well, yes, in a way,' Sage replied.
'Why were you out there as your dog form and not as a human? Don't you know how dangerous it is as a dog out there in the streets with no collar or home?' Bella asked.
Sage sighed. 'It's a long story.'
'Isn't it always? Every dog has a long story. But I'm guessing for you, coming from a Wolfblood, it has to be something extra special,' Bella remarked.
Sage sighed. 'Some...cadets were making fun of my family and lover. They went too far and I bit the leader. My uncle yelled and scorned me for acting like I did.'
'...I can actually relate to that,' Bella spoke, looking down with her ears drooping. 'I use to have a family. Always loved me, feed me, and looking after me. I especially remember that sweet girl who picked me since I was a pup. She laughed in delight when I first pulled on her braided hair, as if it were rope. We were like best friends. Then, one day, some mean kids were picking on her and I did the same thing as you on the leader of that group. Guess you could say that her father scolded me for doing something like that and threw me out of the house,' Bella nearly let out a small whimper of sadness. 'After that, I never saw my owner again.'
Sage sighed. 'I mean, don't get me wrong, I know why he scolded me and I know I was in the wrong, but...what could I have done? I mean, seriously.'
'Join the club. Even I'm not sure why my owner didn't stop her dad from kicking me out for what I was trying to protect,' Bella replied, still not better.
Sage laid down, looking at the gate. 'Have you ever thought about having another family?'
'Sometimes. But I'm worried I'll just drive them away, like my last family. So, what's the point?' Bella answered.
Sage gave a compassionate smile. 'I think all of you would be great family dogs. You couldn't push anyone away.'
'You really think so?' Flash asked, as all the other dogs looked at him.
Sage nodded. 'I do. In fact, give me a chance to make a call and we all may have a family soon.'
Ghost looked at Sage curiously. 'A call?'
Sage closed his eyes and focused. 'Macy? Mace...can you hear me?'
Back in Plumber HQ, Macy was walking around feeling sad about her love. Just then, she felt a connection from a familiar voice that made her stop in her tracks.
'Sage!? Is that you? Yeah, I hear ya, loud and clear!' Macy thought. 'What's wrong?'
'Well...I'm kind of in a bit of a pickle,' Sage said, sounding embarrassed.
'What do you mean? Aren't you home? Where are you?' Macy asked, in concern.
'Oh Mace I was so angry that I ran out of the base. I thought it would be better to burn off my anger than ride home...and well I got caught by the dog catcher." Sage continued. If Macy had been able to see him she would of seen Sage covering his muzzle with his front paws in embarrassment.
"WHAT?!" she shouted out loud, still using her connection but when back to her telepathic messaging. 'Oh, I knew I shouldn't have left you alone! Remind me to give Rook a real kick in the shin for this,' she thought in anger, her fists and teeth clenched super tight.
Sage shook his head. 'No, don't,' Sage paused for a moment. 'Uncle Rook was right...I..I screwed up, Mace. If I had just ignored it and left to talk to him, I wouldn't be in this mess to begin with.'
Macy calmed down before speaking. '...Okay, fine. But I swear, if I get held back again by him or from anyone else again for letting you go on situations like this, there's gonna be some serious shin kicking. Maybe some hits on places that shouldn't be mentioned,' she replied, cracking her knuckles.
Sage chuckled. 'I think this will be the last time. Oh, before you come and grab my mind making a call to my Aunt Rachel and Mom? I need you to ask them something for me.'
'Not at all. I'll be sure to call them asap. What do you want to ask them?'
Sage chuckled. 'Ask them if they would mind having a few more four-legged family members at home.'
'I'll be sure to tell them just that. Hang in there, buddy. I'll be sure to bring the calvary as soon as possible,' Macy thought. 'Oh! And before I forget, which dog pound are you located being held captive?'
Sage smiled before chuckling. 'Staybrook West Shelter. Just drive safe, okay? I don't need your mom on my back, as well.'
'Oh, please. It's not my mom you should be worried about on stuff like this. But, yeah, I'm on my way,'
'Okay, see you soon,' Sage said, before the connection was cut. He opened his eyes and looked at the others. 'Soon, we'll all be home safe and sound.'
Few moments later, Macy arrived at the shelter towards the front desk where Earl was reading a Dog Catcher Tool catalog.
"Why, hello there, miss. Welcome to Staybrook West Shelter. How may I be of assistance?" Earl replied, lowering the magazine.
"Hi, sir. I'm looking for my dog, Streets. He wandered off the backyard sometime today and I've been looking everywhere for him," Macy said, doing her best on acting worried.
"Lost dog, eh? He wouldn't happen to be some kind of big husky that looks like a wolf, would he?" Earl asked, rubbing his chin.
Macy nodded. "That's the one,"
"Yep. I think I might know where he is. Follow me," Earl said, standing up and leading Macy to the back where the other dogs were located.
Sage looked up, having heard Macy's voice. Deciding to play the act, he barked and whimpered, pawing at the gate as Macy came into view. Carefully, he pressed his muzzle through the gaps and nuzzled her hand.
"There you are, Streets. You had me worried sick. I told my little brother not to leave the gate open. That slacking scamp," Macy replied, placing her hands on Sage's face.
"Found him wandering around the streets of town. I just assumed he was another stray like the rest," Earl explained. "Guess that would explain why I didn't find any tags on him. My mistake, miss."
"It's cool. You were just doing your job," Macy said. "Now, could you please release him?"
"Of course, little miss," Earl got the keys and opened the cage. "You're free to go, buddy. Your owner is here to take you home."
Sage barked, leaping at Macy and licking her face with his tail wagging a mile a minute.
Macy laughed. "I missed you, too, Streets."
"Anything else, miss? Or is that all?" Earl asked.
Sage looked at Macy. 'Ask if any of the other dogs have been spoken for. That your boyfriend was looking for a good dog or dogs.'
"Mmhmm. Actually, sir., I've been thinking. Are any of these dogs reserved for adopting?" Macy questioned.
"Well, no one has asked for nor picked up a single one of them. But that doesn't mean I'm giving up looking for good owners that require good homes for them," Earl answered in honesty. "You interested in adopting one of them?"
"Oh, not me. I already have Streets. But my boyfriend, however, is looking for some good dog or dogs, such as these sweeties," Macy smiled.
"In that case, why don't you bring him and his parents here so that they can pick whoever they want?" Earl suggested, glad to hear someone is interested in adopting one of these dogs.
Believe me, they're not going anywhere and could definitely use some comfort,"
"You got it, Mister. And thanks again for finding my dog," Macy said, shaking Earl's hand before leaving.
"No problem at all. Just remember to have a collar on him at all times so that this doesn't happen again," Earl spoke up, waving goodbye.
Sage smirked. 'Wonder what he would have said if he had seen my collar? Figures, the one day it would come in handy is the one day I forget it.'
Once she and Sage were out and somewhere private, Macy knelt down and hugged him. "I am so glad you're okay,"
Sage leaned into her. "Sorry I ran off like an idiot. Uncle Rook was right to scorn me, I was just too much of a hot head to realize it."
"It's fine. I'm just relieved you weren't captured or tormented by some evil super villain we know," Macy smirked.
"Well, what did my folks say?" Sage asked, licking under her chin.
"They said they would be coming here and see what dogs you had in mind. Should be coming any minute now," Macy giggled from the lick that tickled a little.
"Do you think five would be too many?" Sage asked, doing the act again.
"You tell me. You're the one who lives in a home that fits nearly a hundred beings," Macy remarked.
A little while later, Whampire and Sasha showed up with Megan and, surprisingly, Rachel and Uncle Rook. Thankfully, the male aliens were in disguises to be in the appearance of regular human guys. Giving a small sigh, Sage got up and shifted to move to his Uncle Rook.
"You...you were right, Uncle Rook. I'm sorry," Sage apologized.
Rook smiled, before pulling Sage into a hug. "I am sorry for being as stern as I was. I am just glad you are alright. Those cadets have been stripped of their positions. If they cannot play nice, then they cannot play at all."
"That's a relief. Because if those cadets continued...Well, I think Sage knows what I would do. Right, Wolf Boy?" Macy replied, placing her hands on her hips confidently.
Sage chuckled. "Yeah, I think the bite I did would have been small, compared to the damage she would do."
"Sage, what's this about adopting some dogs?" Sasha asked, curiously.
"Mom, I want to give the dogs in there a chance. I promise they won't be trouble and they'll be extra security for the mansion, as well. Please?" Sage asked, looking at his mother and aunt.
"Well…all right," Rachel said, with a smile.
"I've seen some of the dogs there. They looked very cool," Macy replied.
Smiling, Macy and Sage, along with his parents, went inside to find Earl with his magazine again.
"Hello, sir," Sage said with a smile.
"Why, hello there. I take it that you're the boyfriend a certain short brunette mentioned about?" Earl replied.
Sage smirked. "Yep, and I'm here looking for some good dogs for the home."
"Well, if you follow me to the back, I'll show you," Earl said, standing up and leading them to the other dogs.
Sage then played the part of looking and petting each of the dogs; giving them each of them some kind words and pats, before walking over to his family.
"I can't decide. They're all so wonderful. Mom, you don't think it would be possible to...?" Sage asked, giving her a wink.
Sasha laughed. "Well, we always say 'the more the merrier', but you're going to be in charge of them."
Sage nodded. "Oh, I doubt they'll be any trouble."
"You actually want all five of them?! I'm actually surprised. Well, as long as they're being taken good care, I don't see why not," Earl replied.
"Macy, can you help me unlatch them?" Sage asked, unlatching the kennels.
"You got it, Sage," Macy smiled, helping her boyfriend out.
Once all the kennels became opened, Sage gave a loud whistle. "Come on, everyone, let's go home," he said, earning a massive literal dog pile of tongues and tail wags.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! GUYS STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!" Sage laughed, as he was licked.
Macy chuckled at the scene. "Now, I know where the expression 'release the hounds' comes from,"
Sage smiled, as he sat up and got a mischievous idea in his head. "You know, Macy, I just figured out another one."
"And what's that?" Macy asked, unaware of what Sage was planning.
"SICK HER, BOYS!" Sage called, getting his friends to pounce Macy and begin the lick attack.
"EEEEEEEAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! SAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAGE!" Macy scream laughed, feeling the dogs lick all over her face and neck
As Sage was enjoying the show, he noticed that Bella wasn't getting in on the action. She seemed a bit troubled and shy.
Kneeling down, Sage stroked her neck. "What's wrong. Bella?"
'This whole thing...it nearly reminds me of my first owner. I'm not sure if I feel ready going over this cycle again,' Bella thought, looking down sadly.
"Bella, you were protecting your own..." Sage paused, as a thought came to mind. "Bella, what was the name of your girl?"
'I think it was Mackenzie or Margaret. It's been a long time since I thought of her. Why?'
Sage looked at Macy, for a moment, before taking a deep breath. "Was her name Macy Monroe? Her father was a police captain," he asked, calmly.
Bella's eyes went wide, along with her ears perking up, when she heard the name. 'Macy Monroe...Yes, I think that's what she's called!'
Sage stood up and called off the other dogs, who had been nuzzling Macy. "Mace...when you were a kid, did you have a dog that bit a bully?"
Macy thought about that, for a minute. "Actually...yeah! I use to play with her a lot and first found her when she pulled my hair," she answered, suddenly realizing something. "Wait, how did you know about that? I never told anyone."
Sage smiled. "Call for that dog, like you used to."
"Why?" Macy asked, totally confused.
"Mace, just trust me. Call her," Sage pushed a little more.
"Uh, okay..." Macy took deep breath, a little reluctant about doing this. "Bella! Here girl! Here girl!"
Perking up and wagging her tail, Bella barked in response and rushed to Macy. Followed by pouncing on top of the Brunette with a few quick doggie kisses all over her.
'It's you! It really is you!' Bella thought in happiness, still licking and waging her tail.
Sage chuckled. "Macy Monroe, let me introduce you to an old friend: Bella, your first dog."
After the doggie kisses, Macy could not believe her eyes and ears. Sudden memories flooded through her mind about Bella. She was so surprised that tears came down her eyes. "Bella...I don't...I...I thought I might never see you again..." Macy managed to say and hugged her dog, still crying. "I missed you..."
Sage smiled, before kneeling beside them and petting Bella. "I take it you want her back?"
"Are you kidding me?! Of course! I've been looking for her since she disappeared!" Macy exclaimed, drying some of her tears off her face. "Even dad and Bishop did everything to help find Bella! We looked nearly the whole city in hopes she turned up!"
'They...what?' Bella looked at Macy, in surprise. The female mutt thought that they didn't care about her anymore.
Sage looked at Bella. 'Apparently, Macy's father and best friend were looking for you for a long time. Macy was devastated when she found you were gone. Bella, she wants you to go home with her.'
"Bella, when my dad kicked you out of the house, he felt bad and slowly realized you were just looking out for me. But, by the time he found out, you were already gone and blamed himself for doing it. Even worse, dad hated seeing me this unhappy," Macy explained, petting her lost dog. "We were afraid that you were already taken...or worse."
"Bella, Macy wants to take you to the place you were always meant to be. Her home, eating in the kitchen, sleeping on her bed at night, and playing around in the yard. She wants to take you, Bella, home," Sage emphasized, by giving her a little nudge to Macy.
'I think I already got the message...And I'm more than happy to be back to my long-lost family!' Bella thought. She responded by letting out another bark and licking Macy's face, neck, and ears.
"Hahahahahahahaha! I love you, too, Bella!" Macy giggled.
Sage chuckled, before looking at the four dogs looking pleadingly at him. Giving a smile, Sage knelt down giving each a pat.
"Come on, pups, lets go home," Sage said, patting his leg.
A few days later Sage and Macy stood outside throwing tennis balls for their pups; smiling at the thought of how a wolf had led them to both new and old family members.
Bella was inspired by my pet dog. Although I lost her around my sophomore year in High School, I still keep the memory of her alive. Especially when doing this story. I'm hoping to show her more again very soon.
Hope you all enjoy this story, and no flames please.
