A few months passed since the fall of Davoth and the death of the original Doom Slayer. Within that time frame, Zenitsu, Tanjiro, and Kanao reunited with Nezuko and began to renovate the Kamado homestead and refurbish it so it can be used once more. Although Inosuke would like to join them, he set his sights on larger goals, He went on to join the Night Sentinels and is currently learning how to pilot the Atlans which he desperately wishes to tame.

Sagetsu became wealthy with his creation and distribution of nichirin firearms, expanding his audience to the wider world besides the demon slayer corps and cooperating with the government. As a result of this partnership, Sagetsu is given ample funding and resources to improve his craftsmanship with weapons and generate even more efficient tools for the government.

Everyone was looking forward to this particular day, the day where the Doom Slayer would officially be buried. Many citizens across the various worlds gather in Argent D'nur on this fateful day at a memorial built to honor the dead. The Memorial was built within Taras Nabad, in a section of the city that had yet to be rebuilt due to the neverending chaos left behind by the demons. The area was cleared to make room for the memorial to act as a reminder for what was and what will soon be. Out of respect for the Demon Slayer Corps and the fact that Tanjiro Kamado is now the Doom Slayer, the memorial in Taras Nabad was outlined in sakura trees that covered the entire area. The memorial was an artistic collaboration from all of those who were saved by the Doom Slayer, from the ARC personnel on Earth, to members of the Demon Slayer Corps chiming in to help. The memorial was a result of all of their hard work, a way for them to express their gratitude by building the most grand memorial in the Doom Slayer's image. Within the center of the memorial, stood a very tall statue of the Doom Slayer standing on a pedestal. There were two, humongous, parallel lines of people stretching across Taras Nabad, clearing a path for the main event.

The chorus of chatter amongst the hundreds of thousands of citizens attending the event were silenced once Tanjiro began stepping through the open path in-between the two parallel rows of people. Pressed against his side was the damaged helmet of the original Doom Slayer. Meanwhile, he escorted a convoy guarded by Kanao, Zenitsu, Valen, and a few more of Valen's trusted personnel. They guided a Sentinel sarcophagus within them which had the remaining parts of the Flynn's Praetor Suit stored inside. Tanjiro continued walking through the crowd, catching the strange expressions people would make upon seeing the boy leading the way. It was a long, quiet, and arduous walk until they finally approached the statue of the Doom Slayer. The escort group split up as they began guiding the sarcophagus in front of the pedestal which opened up a hatch that had just enough room to insert the sarcophagus and seal it inside.

Valen walked up to a podium set up in front of the statue, with Tanjiro walking next to the King and casually glancing around at the hordes of people who lined up to mourn the death of the Doom Slayer. Valen cleared his throat before speaking into the microphone, "The Doom Slayer… was many things. To the demons, he was a symbol of fear. To the humans, he was your beacon of hope. To the Night Sentinels, he was a brother in arms. And to this boy, he was an idol. Regardless of your stance, the Doom Slayer has left a profound impact on all of us. We are united here, today, because of the Doom Slayer. Though he has passed, his legacy will not be forgotten. The Doom Slayer will continue to exist so long as we continue to believe. As we close the book on this dark period of history, we will be guided into a bright future with the help of the current Doom Slayer who will carry the mantle with him and lead us into a prosperous future!" The crowd began to cheer with the intensity of a thunderstorm, it was one of the loudest things either of them had heard in their life. Tanjiro couldn't help but form a small smile underneath his mask, but quickly made it go away after reminding himself what this event is about.

Valen turns towards Tanjiro, requesting, "Will the Doom Slayer conclude today's proceedings." Tanjiro nodded, walking towards the guarded sarcophagus and staring at the empty praetor suit inside the coffin. The boy furrowed his brows, partially wincing as he held Flynn's helmet in front of him, staring into his reflection bouncing off of the helmet's visor.

This helmet was damaged, tainted by the many years of endless conflict. Now, it can rest. Most people at the memorial don't see the Doom Slayer as a broken man who continued fighting. Instead, they see him as an indestructible force of nature that has no flaws. Flynn was very flawed and spiritually injured. However, his true self began to shine through towards the end of his journey and he sacrificed himself for the betterment of the universe. Though this closes the chapter of Flynn Taggart's story as the Doom Slayer, it was time for Tanjiro to start crafting his story as the Doom Slayer. Tanjiro gently placed the helmet into the sarcophagus, stepping away as he watched the coffin slide into the pedestal before being sealed off to the outside world.

Thus, Flynn Taggart was put to rest at long last. There was a moment of silence to honor the warrior's burial. The crowd remained for several hours, but it eventually dissipated. Tanjiro stood in front of the statue, refusing to take a single step away from it as he stared up at the statue and admired its beauty. He was savoring the image as long as he possibly could. Soon, the sun began to set in Argent D'nur, and the majority of the citizens that had attended the event were returned to their home worlds. Kanao remained by Tanjiro's side the entire time, but she didn't share the same amount of patience that she did. She pointed out, "Tanjiro, I think we should go home now."

That's when they heard footsteps approaching them from behind. They turned to see a young man with short, black hair step next to them. He had familiar looking pink-eyelashes and several black tattoos marked on his body. The man spoke, his voice was also familiar, "Beautiful, isn't it? Honestly, I never thought I'd be here to see the burial of the Hellwalker. It's strange how life works sometimes, wouldn't you agree, Slayer?"

Tanjiro raised his eyebrows once he figured out who the man next to him was. Akaza smirked, placing a comforting hand on the boy's shoulder and patting it several times as he commented, "No use getting all hung up on the past, am I right? At least, that's what you taught me. You're the Doom Slayer now, so start acting like it." The young man backed off, giving a thumbs up before he started to walk away and announce, "That's all I wanted to say, couldn't help but notice you looking mopey the entire time."

Tanjiro raised his voice for the former demon to hear, "Wait, Akaza! What do you plan on doing now?"

The young man stopped, shrugging his shoulders before turning to face the boy one last time and explained, "I dunno. I'm still trying to figure that out. But, y'know what?… Maybe starting my own dojo doesn't sound so bad. Heh, I might just do that. I think my family would like that for me, to follow in my master's footsteps. Now that I'm not immortal anymore, gotta pass on my legacy one way or another."

"Sounds good to me, Akaza. Take care of yourself."

"Likewise, Tanjiro. I know we really started off on the wrong foot, but I never thanked you for giving me a second chance. I can't sweep what I've done under the rug, but I can, at least, start to make amends. Besides, anytime you're looking to learn from someone with literal centuries worth of combat experience under his belt, you know who to find."

"Now you're talking like a smug old man."

"Says the whiny teenager of a Hellwalker" They chuckled at each other's comments before waving goodbye towards each other. Akaza merged into the crowd that was leaving the scene, leaving the area scarily vacant. Zenitsu ran up next to Tanjiro to inform him:

"Hey, Tanjiro, I'll be heading back to the house! Nezuko said she saw some piece of furniture she'd like to bring into the home, so I'm going to head back and help her move it. Feel free to drop by and help! I'll see you back at the house!" Zenitsu waved goodbye to his friend as well, merging into the fleeting crowd as well to leave Tanjiro and Kanao alone in the memorial.

Kanao's fingers intertwined with Tanjiro's as she said to him, "Let's go home." Tanjiro nodded in agreement as the couple turned around to head back home alongside Zenitsu. As they began walking back in the other direction, they were intercepted by King Valen who had a smirk on his face as he commented:

"Leaving so soon?"

Tanjiro answered, "Yeah, can't stay here forever. I got things to do."

"Agreed. However, before you leave, there's a few things I'd like to give you."

"Oh?"

Valen whistled into the air, remaining silent for a couple seconds until they heard a draconic roar in the distance followed up by intense wing flaps. Tanjiro saw a Sentinel Dragon swoop over them before landing next to the King, lowering its head upon touching the ground. It was the same dragon that belonged to Flynn which also aided Tanjiro in getting to Davoth's position in-time to stop him. Valen petted the dragon before explaining, "First off, I would like to give you the dragon of the Doom Slayer. This belongs to Flynn, ofcourse. However, the dragon has a strong imprint on you and has accepted you as its new master."

Tanjiro walked up to the creature, caressing its head which made the dragon squirm with joy. The boy immediately understood the dragon's fondness for him and thanked Valen for the gift. However, that wasn't all.

"That's not all. I would like you two to follow me." Valen spoke into his wrist communicator for the person on the other end to open a portal for him. After a few seconds, the dimensional rift opened up to reveal the destination they would be taken to. Without hesitation, Valen stepped inside, gesturing for the couple to follow behind him. They did so, stepping through after Valen. Tanjiro's eyes widened upon stepping into the Doom Fortress, now filled to the brim with energy as it was operational once more.

The boy was at a loss for words, he stumbled as he tried to ask, "W-what? H-how?! You managed to get the Doom Fortress up and running again?!"

"It wasn't easy. This, too, was a collaborative effort between us Sentinels and the members of the ARC. We worked together to create a sustainable energy core that could power the ship for quite some time. It was costly, but it's worth it. It's time we restored what rightfully belongs to you, Doom Slayer."

"S-so… this is for me?"

"No, it's been yours, it never stopped being yours. All we did was make it operational once more, we haven't touched anything else, it's the same as it always has been. So, with that aside, welcome home, Slayer."

Tanjiro stepped forward, looking around and observing the architecture of the Doom Fortress. It was still in pristine condition, nothing had changed since he last saw it many months ago. He excitedly turned towards Valen, thanking him, profusely, for his act of kindness. Valen smiled, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder as he explained, "No need to thank me, we're the ones thanking you. It's all yours now, Tanjiro. If you ever need help getting things to work, don't hesitate to contact me or one of the numerous operators who understand how to make this work."

Valen stepped back through the portal, leaving Tanjiro and Kanao in the Doom Fortress. Kanao was slightly intimidated by the design of the Fortress, but it was another home for Tanjiro. Kanao hesitantly asked, "So, what're you going to do now, Tanjiro? Do you plan on moving out of the house and living here?"

Tanjiro answered, "Yeah… It's the right thing to do, I'll be able to do more good here. You don't have to stay if you don't want to, it's entirely your choice. I won't make that decision for you."

"You already know my answer."

"I do. We're home, Kanao. This is where I want to settle down with you. Hopefully, Nezuko doesn't get too upset at me for this, but I'm sure she'll understand."

Several years later…

Tanjiro's eyes cracked open to see the familiar ceiling of the room he and Kanao shared inside of the Doom Fortress. He sat up in his bed, letting the cold air of the ventilation system infiltrate his body because he was shirtless. The room they chose to reside in was Flynn's old room. The bedroom had been redecorated to accommodate for all of their new furniture and belongings while a few of Flynn's personal belongings remained with some being relocated elsewhere in the Doom Fortress. However, there was nothing in front of the window, giving Tanjiro the chance to see the Earth in all of its beauty, unobscured by anything. He turned towards the right to see his fiance, Kanao, quietly snoring as she lay on her side, oblivious to the fact that her husband just woke up. Tanjiro couldn't really go back to sleep, so he figured he might as well get up and start his day.

Tanjiro had grown much taller over the years, his voice becoming naturally deeper in the process. His hair was much shorter than it used to be, having to cut it at the sides while only trimming the top. He put on the rest of his clothing and went up towards the top floor of the Doom Fortress where he did most of his work. Tanjiro had organized all of Flynn's workstations together, creating a small area where Tanjiro would make all of the necessary modifications to his suit. He sat down on Flynn's gaming chair, leaning over one of the benches while studying the contents of a textbook he was reading. Sprawled around him, on the array of benches surrounding him, were a variety of scrap parts, tools, and several stacks of textbooks. Tanjiro had spent a significant amount of time over the years studying engineering, mathematics, science, and everything Flynn knew so he could operate, efficiently, on the field. The boy had, in front of him, a grappling hook modification, exactly like Flynn's. The boy was flipping back and forth between pages of the book, muttering various formulas underneath his breath as he placed the tiny parts of the grappling hook modification together. He let out a deep breath, looking forward to seeing the figurines of both Flynn and Xernex standing next to one another, fists connecting while their other fists were raised in the air. They were positioned so it would look like they were fist-bumping one another. Tanjiro smiled underneath his mask upon seeing this before returning his attention to his creation.

After putting the final part in place, Tanjiro attached the modification to his prosthetic left arm which has also been modified over the years, upgraded to be much sleeker and durable than before so it wasn't as clunky as it used to be. After inserting the grappling hook, Tanjiro pointed his left arm towards the wall and fired the grappling hook. It shot out and attached to the wall successfully. He cheered upon seeing his hard work and numerous hours of studying pay off. That's when he began receiving a notification from his communicator, alerting him that someone was trying to call him. Tanjiro reached over, answering the call as he waited for the other side to speak. It was Valen, who informed, "Slayer, we're going to need your assistance with an op we're running. Get ready."

Tanjiro answered, cheerfully, "Got it." before ending the call. Tanjiro reached over to the stereo system controls of the Doom Fortress, inserting a CD into the jukebox which began playing one of Flynn's various metal albums that he left behind. Tanjiro began turning up the volume of the song before racing towards his Praetor X which was being hung up next to all of his benches. Tanjiro put most of the armor on, quickly, before racing towards the portal controls of the ship and inserting the coordinates to Argent D'nur so he could meet up with Valen.

Tanjiro reached down next to his mask which had been heavily modified. Though Xernex's mask was still in-tact, it had been transformed into a helmet which heavily resembled that of Flynn's praetor suit. It was a hybrid between Xernex's mask and Flynn's helmet, now sporting silver linings, a blood-red visor, and a blue fire-pattern that stretched across the top left corner of the helmet to match Tanjiro's head scar. He placed the helmet over his head and was fed statistical information about the suit's operating levels through his HUD display. Tanjiro attached Xernex's axe onto his belt before reaching over to grab a shotgun that was lying on the table. As soon as the portal gateway had formed, the dimension rift opened up in front of it. The Doom Slayer raised his Shotgun before pumping the weapon and jumping into the portal.
