Chapter 6: Writer's Block

"Finally!" Yui said, exiting the department of education lecture room with Akira, "The week is over and I can relax!"

"Hey, you aren't forgetting our butt ton of homework right?" Akira deadpanned.

Yui opened her mouth to reply, but put her finger on her chin and looked at the sky.

"H-homework.." Yui said, thinking, "Wait, we have homework Akira-chan?!"

Akira stared at Yui in disbelief.

Azusa had finished her classes for the day, so she headed to the cafeteria. After purchasing her meal, Azusa went to look for a table.

"Azusa~ over here!" Jun called, waving at the pig tailed girl.

"Jun, thank goodness, I thought I wouldn't be able to find a seat," Azusa said.

The two friends relayed how their week went as they ate.

"This is nonsence!" Jun complained, dropping her utensils on the table, "The lessons are so damn long and the homework is too much!"

"Jun…" Azusa said, looking at her friend properly for the first time in a week,"...WOAH!"

"What," Jun asked.

"You look… different," Azusa said, staring Jun up and down.

Jun, who now has her hair untied and was now bespectacled, blushed, "Yeah, yeah I look horrible, you don't have to rub it in!"

"H-horrible?" Azusa said,"No, you look fine, almost kinda cute."

"Kya!! Azusa you perv," Jun said, her face red.

"I'm complimenting you!" Azusa snapped.

"Hi guys!" Ui greeted her friends, sitting down on the seat next to Azusa.

Ui looked and Jun and gasped.

"Jun-chan! You look so adorable!" Ui said, petting Jun's head.

"Aw, thank you Ui, just wanted to try a different style," Jun said, appreciatively.

"What's with the different reaction?" Azusa said, narrowing her eyes.

"It's different when you say it Azusa," Jun said thoughtfully,"When Ui says it, she gives a mother kind of vibe, but when you say it, it's like a pervy old man kind of vibe."

"Why you little-" Azusa growled pinching Jun's cheeks.

"Azunyan!" Azusa heard behind her back.

Azusa released Jun and braced for impact, but the glomping she expected didn't happen.

"Uh, Yui-senpai?" Azusa asked, turning to Akira and Yui.

"Aren't you going to get your Azunyan recharge onee-chan?" Ui asked Yui.

"Is that what it's called?" Akira asked, sitting down next to Jun, "Well, I told Yui here to restrain herself in public."

"Oh?" Azusa said, looking slightly disappointed,"Thank you Akira-senpai.."

Yui smiled at Azusa from her seat, twitching a bit.

"Yeah!" Yui said,"I'll be more mature this year!"

"That's great to know onee-chan!" Ui praised her big sister, petting her on the head.

"Jun-chan, you look so pretty!" Yui said, focusing on Jun's new appearence.

"Yeah, I like your new look Suzuki-san," Akira nodded.

"Aw you guys," Jun blushed.

"WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO'S TREATED DIFFERENT," Azusa snapped grabbing both sides of Jun's cheeks.

"Owwww!" Jun said, trying to pry Azusa's hands off her.

"By the way Azusa-chan," Akira said,"Have you settled the matter of the club fee?"

"Huh?" Azusa said, loosening her grip on Jun,"There's a membership fee?"

At Ritsu and Mio's apartment…

"Ritsu! I'm home!" Mio said, opening the door.

When Mio heard no answer, she put her bags down and went into their bedroom.

Ritsu was fast asleep on her bed, showing no signs of energy.

"She's really tuckered out," Mio thought.

"Ritsu, wake up," Mio shook her roommate,"we have to go to the club room soon.

"5 more minutes…" Ritsu snored.

"What are you, a grade schooler?" Mio sighed,"I bought yakisoba-"

Ritsu sat straight up and headed to the dining table and began feasting on her fried noodles.

"Ahhhh, I feel so hungry!" Ritsu said, smacking her lips.

"I told you not to do all your homework at once," Mio sighed,"How late did you stay up?"

"5am in the morning," Ritsu said,"It's worth it though, I'm now homework free!"

"Sure, clear the plates and let's head for practice," Mio brushed her off.

The drummer and bassist walked out of their apartment and along the sidewalk towards the campus.

"How was school today," Ritsu asked the bassist.

"It was fine," Mio said, "Though, when I realised there was practice later, I wanted to write a new song, alas, I have trouble on what to write."

"The Department of Japanese really changed your manner of speaking," Ritsu noted ,"Alas? Who says that in a sentence in this age?!"

Mio ignored Ritsu's statement,"The point is, if I don't write new songs for our band, we would be stuck with our performing older songs!"

"And that's a problem?" Ritsu asked,"Our music's fine."

"I'm not talking about the music," Mio pouted.

"Well, yeah," Ritsu laughed,"Your lyrics are something else."

SMACK*

"I didn't say it was bad!" Ritsu said, massaging her head where Mio smacked her.

"Yeah, right," Mio said,"this writer's block of mine is starting to get annoying."

"Then, let's go to the mall tomorrow!" Ritsu said, "Maybe you can find some inspiration then!"

"You just want to go to the mall," Mio pointed out.

"True, but come on, even you need to rest your mind with your friends!" Ritsu said.

"Well, I don't think I have a choice, do I?" Mio sighed.

"No, you don't," Ritsu said as they arrived at the club room.

"Mio-chan! Ricchan!" Yui greeted the two who entered the room.

Mugi and Azusa looked at the bassist and drummer, and greeted them as well.

"Yui! Mugi! Other one!" Ritsu greeted the other three.

"Haha, very funny Ritsu-senpai," Azusa gritted through her teeth.

"Let's begin, shall we?" Mugi asked.

"Let's play all our songs!" Yui said.

"All of em?!" Ritsu cried.

"What are we waiting for?" Azusa sighed.

An hour later… at Yui's dorm..

"That was exhausting," Yui panted,"Who's idea was it to practise ALL our songs?!"

Ritsu stared at Yui, "Her name starts with "Y", has a "U" in it and ends with "I", gave her guitar a nickname and enjoys cakes a bit too much."

"Oh right," Yui smiled sheepishly.

"Cakes anyone?" Mugi arrived with packets of cakes and some tea.

The drummer and the two guitarists happily accepted the desert while the bassist refused, sitting in a corner with her notebook.

The keyboardist, being her usual intuitive self, sat down next to Mio.

"Something up Mio-chan?" Mugi asked, looking at the scribbles on Mio's notebook.

"Oh, nothing much, other than the fact that I'm having a writer's block at the moment," Mio sighed,"Listening and playing all our songs made me want to write up something new for the first time since High School."

"Oh?" Mugi said,"So that's the reason why you were cringing so much during practise."

By now, the other three band members were interested in the conversation.

"Well, yeah," Mio said," 'Ballpoint Pen'?! 'Curry, then Rice'?! How the hell did I come up with such lyrics?!"

"They're cute," Mugi reassured.

"Sure, but I want my lyrics to sound more mature now," Mio said.

"It's alright Mio-chan!" Yui said, grabbing Mio's arm,"You're lyrics are cute! Just like you!"

Mio blushed,"That's what I'm trying to avoid now, I'm moving away from 'moe'."

Ritsu snickered and whispered to Azusa,"It's just a phase, she'll get over this and continue writing sappy songs."

"I HEARD THAT RITSU," Mio yelled, throwing a packet of cake at Ritsu's forehead.

"Maybe what you need is inspiration," Azusa said to Mio,"More often than not, that's what lyricists with writer's block need."

"Yeah, we figured that much out," Ritsu said, getting up while rubbing her forehead,"Which is why… we're going have fun at the mall tomorrow!"

Yui's eyes glowed in excitement as she and Ritsu jumped up and down happily.

Mio glared at Ritsu.

"A-and hopefully give Mio inspiration," Ritsu stammered.

"Maybe that's it," Mugi said to Mio while Ritsu and Yui were fooling around, "You're tired and you need to put your mind at rest."

Mio smiled at the blonde and thought,"Maybe I do need to catch a break."

The next day, the Houkago Tea Time members met up at the mall, and started the trip with the music store.

"Look Azunyan!" Yui called to Azusa,"These guitars are so shiny!"

Azusa looked at the guitars on display and thought of her own Muttan. The guitars on display looked so shint maybe she should get a new guitar soon?

"You know senpai?" Azusa said with a hand on her chin,"I may get a new guitar soon."

"You-you are going to cheat on Muttan?!" Yui gasped

"W-what are you saying?!" Azusa cried,"Anyway, I'm just considering buying a new guitar, I didn't say I will!"

"Considering?!" Yui huffed, "You should apologise to Muttan when you see him!"

"What a rowdy bunch," Ritsu laughed next to Mio and Mugi.

"What are you doing here?" Mio asked,"I would think you would be having fun with them."

"Oh, I just wanted to see how I could help with your lyrics," Ritsu grinned.

"Oh? How?" Mio asked, narrowing her eyes.

"Dunno! Have fun angst-ing," Ritsu laughed, walking away.

"Grr that Ritsu," Mio said through gritted teeth."

"Now, now Mio-chan," Mugi soothed Mio,

"Let's start with keywords for the song lyrics."

"Right," Mio nodded, writing down 'Music Store' on her notepad.

"Let's go karaoke," Yui said, upon seeing a karoke place at the mall.

"I can't sing well," Azusa said sheepishly.

"Ohoho, Jun sent me a video of you last year performing in front of the first-years," Ritsu snickered,"It was hilarious."

Azusa blushed and made a mental note to get revenge on Jun later on.

Mio opened her notebook once again and wrote: Karoke.

After the mall trip was over, Mugi, Azusa and Yui went back to the campus.

Before heading to ber dorm, Azusa decided to take a quick trip to Jun's dorm

"Oh your back Azusa?" Jun said, opening the door to face the pigtailed guitarist, "Azusa?"

"Suzuki, did you send Ritsu-senpai a video of me singing?" Azusa turned to Jun, her eyes blocked by her hair.

"Oh ehehe," Jun smiled sheepishly.

"And why didn't you tell me you recorded the damn thing?" Azusa asked, a deadly calmness radiating from her voice.

"I can expla- owwww!!" Jun helped as Azusa grabbed both of her cheeks and pulled as hard as she could.

"So milady," Ritsu teased as she and Mio stepped into the elevator, "Did you manage to clear that writer's block of yours?"

Mio looked at her roommate.

"As it turns out, darling," Mio retorted, "I did."

Mio showed Ritsu the keywords she had written down: Music Store, Karaoke, Clothes, Dining, Arcade.

"Mio, dear, I don't think the others would agree to playing a 10 second song," Ritsu mocked.

"Baka, these are the keywords I will use for the song," Mio sighed,"I have the title in my head already, 'Catch a Break'."

Ritsu looked at her best friend,"Not bad, but from the looks of the keywords, still looks like a 'moe' song to me."

Mio nodded, "Ah well, it's the first song I'm writing in almost a year, I'll get into the more mature lyrics eventually."

"Eventually…" Ritsu said, making a thoughtful face,"So like never then?"

Mio slapped Ritsu's arm, "Haha, very funny."

"Just, kidding," Ritsu grinned, "I know you are able to write something that you like, so don't give up."

"Thanks Ritsu," Mio smiled as the two friends entered their apartment.
