Chapter 7: To move or not to move?
Mugi and her father were conversing over the phone...
"A what now?" Mr Kotobuki asked, not sure he heard right."An apartment, Dad," Mugi said, "I'm thinking about how nice it would be to take care of myself in my own place.""Mugi dear," Mr Kotobuki sighed,"You already live in a dorm, and have your friends and chambermaid taking care of you.""I didn't want a chambermaid!" Mugi sighed,"You were the one who insisted!""Well, someone had to take care of you," Mr Kotobuki reasoned."Dad! I'm in college!" Mugi cried,"I can take care of myself!""Sorry, Mugi, I have a buisness call in a minute," Mr Kotobuki said, a phone ringing from his side of the call,"Think about it somemore and we'll talk about this matter eventually. Love you, goodbye!"
Mr Kotobuki hung up.
"Why can't he let me grow up?!" Mugi thought, annoyed.
"You alright Mugi?" Ritsu asked.
Mugi snapped out of her trance. Ritsu, Yui, Mio and Azusa were looking at Mugi curiously.
"Oh, did I miss something?" Mugi asked.
"Nothing much," Mio replied, "I just wanted to know what you think of these lyrics."
Mugi read through Mio's new lyrics and smiled.
"I think this is great!" Mugi grinned, "I can't wait to start on a new song!"
"Mugi, you're too nice," Mio blushed, "The lyrics aren't that good."
"Oh, don't be so humble," Ritsu said, eyes narrowed, "The lyrics are pretty decent compared to your other songs."
"But it's true, these lyrics aren't- wait a minute are you saying my other lyrics are bad!?" Mio snapped.
"I never said that!" Ritsu defended herself.
"You said it was decent compared to my other songs," Mio pouted.
"It's true!" Ritsu scoffed, "I mean come on- remember that one song you sent me during winter?!:
"Oh, that was fine!"
"It was creepy!"
"You just misunderstood it!"
While Ritsu and Mio were bickering, Mugi looked at her phone, her recent call history filled to the brim with calls to her father.
Mugi sighed. Why does her father have to be so busy? He barely has time for her nowadays even during school break.
"I like the song!" Yui piped up.
"Me too," Azusa said, "I can't wait to play the new song!"
"Mugi, you have been looking at me for a while now," Mio said to Mugi, "Is something the matter?"
"Oh, I just wanted to ask something," Mugi replied, blushing a little.
"Can you guys help me be more of a commoner?" Mugi said, sparkly eyed.
"A commoner?" Azusa asked, "Wgat do you mean?"
"I want to be normal!" Mugi burst out.
"You are normal," Yui said.
Mugi shook her head,"No, I want to experience things common."
"Mugi-chan, you live in a dorm with us, buy cheap snacks, I'd say you're pretty normal," Yui said, trying to comfort Mugi.
Mugi sighed, and decided to bring her bandmates to her dorm to show them what she meant.
Since the start of college, Mugi had not allowed anyone into her dorm. Ritsu had theorised there was a personal chambermaid in Mugi's room.
"Ooh, Mugi-chan," Yui said, jumping up and down, "I can't wait to see your dorm!"
"Y-yeah!" Mugi said sheepishly.
"I still stand by my chambermaid theory," Ritsu whispered to Mio.
"Don't be ridiculous," Mio whispered back.
"It's a plausible theory," Ritsu hissed.
"Is not."
"It damn-well is."
"Well we're here," Mugi said, bringing out her key to unlock the door, hands shaking while doing so.
"Please don't be inside, please don't be inside," Mugi thought with all her strength.
The band entered the room to find…
a queen-sized bed, and a woman in a maids uniform dusting the windows.
Mugi's bandmates' jaws dropped.
"Welcome Ojou-sama!" a woman in a maid's outfit greeted, and when she saw Mugi's friends greeted again, "Oh, you must be Ojou-sama's friends, welcome!"
Mugi's bandmates looked around her room in awe.
"Mugi-chan!" Yui asked, eyes widening, "Can I lie down on your bed?"
Mugi looked at Yui and reluctantly nodded.
Yui grinned and collapsed on Mugi's bed, sinking into the soft mattress.
"So soft…" Yui murmured.
"Senpai, get off the bed," Azusa scolded.
Yui dragged Azusa into the mattress, which the kohai sank into.
"Sooo comfy," Azusa whispered to no one in particular.
"Ha!" Ritsu said triumphantly to Mio, "Called it!"
"Oh come on now, how was I to know she actually had a maid?" Mio scoffed.
Ritsu grinned at the bassist before jumping into the queen-sized bed.
Mugi was currently covering her face in shame.
"Mugi? Is everything alright?" Mio asked, looking at the blonde, "Mugi?"
"THAT'S IT!" Mugi yelled, pointing at her maid, "You can go back to the mansion, tell my father I do not need these fancy items!"
The other bandmates looked at Mugi in surprise, they had never seen her snap like this before.
"That includes the bed!" Mugi snapped, pointing at the soft bed
"Eek!" Azusa, Ritsu and Yui squeaked, getting off the mattress hastily.
The next day…
Azusa, Yui, Mio and Ritsu helped Mugi carry her expensive items out of campus and into a truck that will deliver said items to her mansion.
"You sure bout' this Mugi?" Ritsu asked.
"Yes!" Mugi huffed in reply, gesturing to the truck driver to leave.
After the truck set off, the band returned to Mugi's dorm, which now only equipped with 3 plastic stools.
"Are you going to get a new bed?" Yui asked, "Maybe an even softer one than before?"
"No," Mugi said, "I will go looking for apartments near the campus!"
"You're leaving?" Azusa asked, "No offence Senpai, but won't you be feeling lonely,"
Mugi widened her eyes, shaking her head, "I will learn to be independent, take care of myself, I don't need my wealth to do so, I need to prove that to my father."
The band then went around town, checking out apartments Mugi may be interested in.
"I assure you, this apartment may be tiny, but it has everything you need and more!" the fifth housing agent they met that day said to them.
"So Mugi," Mio said, "Have you decided?"
Mugi was deep in thought, before smiling, "I will think about it tonight, now shall we go for some tea?"
That night, Mugi finally managed to call her father.
"Yes Dad, I'm very sure of my decision," Mugi said to Mr Kotobuki."Mugi, you don't have to do this to make me think you are independent. I know that you are," Mr Kotobuki said, "Aren't you going to feel lonely? Why move when you have good friends at the campus to take care of you?"
After finishing the call, Mugi sat on a spare mattress she had and thought about what her father said.
Isn't the reason she was so happy about going to college because she was excited to live with friends?
The next day…
"I have an announcement," Mugi said to her bandmates, "I will not be moving away."
"Yay!" Yui whooped, hugging Mugi.
"Why the sudden change of mind?" Ritsu asked.
"Well, my father talked to me and I agree, that living in an apartment would be very lonely," Mugi said.
"Mugi, that hurts," Mio and Ritsu deadpanned.
"Oh, that's not what I mean," Mugi said, "Mio-chan, Ricchan, you two have each other to take care of, so you won't feel lonely."
Mio and Ritsu blushed and turned their faces away from each other.
"So, I'm gonna stay here in the campus!" Mugi grinned, "Where I have many friends to take care of me!"
Her bandmates applauded Mugi's little speech.
"This seems a little extra," Azusa sighed.
"Oho~" Ritsu laughed, "Mugi wasn't the only one worried about being lonely."
Mio smacked Ritsu and scolded,"That was rude! Apologise to Azusa!"
"I didn't say her specifically!" Ritsu retorted.
"It was damn-well implied!" Mio snapped.
"I wonder how my Grandma is doing?" Yui wondered out loud.
"What does that have to do with anything right now?" Azusa sighed.
Mugi giggled at her friends and thought to herself, "This is why I stayed."
