Author's Note: My anxiety attacks have been frequent and unrelenting, so I'm sorry I disappeared. Here's an old story, because I still miss writing.

around and around we go
Gently, the Ferris wheel moved.
It was a chilly winter night, but all of the bright lights strung on the barren trees below distracted her from the cold. More importantly, though, it also allowed her to forget that she was not alone inside the cabin. The stillness of the air allowed her thoughts to wander, to play out all of the scenarios that could happen once either one of them found the courage to speak first.
No matter the scene, no matter the lines she rehearsed in her head, somehow she could see nothing but an unhappy ending just waiting for her by the end of the night. Perhaps it was just as well, she tried to convince herself.
Without her realizing it, the Ferris wheel made one full rotation before the silence in the cabin was finally broken.
"Kagome," he called for her, his voice sounding so soft and far away in the winter night air. She turned to face him, seeing his warm breath in the air. She waited for him to continue to speak, but it seemed he had nothing else to say for he stood there in silence, his unreadable eyes were slowly boring holes into her.
She fidgeted. She was nervous, but she still mustered up the courage to speak. "S-so where do we go from here?" she asked. There was a nervous twist in her stomach, her mind was already preparing several different responses to his answer.
He remained silent. She waited, but still he refused to speak.
She huffed to herself, starting to turn away. "We can just as easily go back to being strangers." She was the one speaking, but she wondered why the words stung as soon as they left her mouth. "It'll be nice. Not to be reminded of the past." She couldn't stop the words from coming out now. She wasn't even sure anymore who she was trying to convince or hurt. "Things can return to normal now. No more arguing, no more reminiscing about ghosts and fairy tales, no more—"
Her eyes widened when she felt a strong grip on her arm, roughly pulling her back until she fell against Sesshoumaru's chest. Gently, he turned her around, his eyes still looking deeply into hers.
"No more…no more…"
Slowly, he inched closer to her face until his lips lingered over hers.
"You," she said softly, her warm breath ghosted against his lips, beckoning him to come closer. Not even a second after the word had left her mouth did she feel his lips on top of hers, soft yet firm, resolute in his answer to her.
Still, she wondered why this scene seemed just as sad as the farewells she had pictured. Perhaps deep down, she knew they were both just trying to put off the inevitable, if only for one more night.
