A/N: This chapter basically follows the anime closely, some chapters will be like that, sorry. And apologizes for this taking long, lots IRL in my way and other projects too. Anywho, hope you enjoy!
Chapter 3 - Perfect Practice
"Hey now, I said I was sorry, didn't I?" All Might shrunk down in the chair, the cold, dead eyes of the mask burrowing into his own while he coughed up blood, causing Yuki to back away. "Hahaha, always works when you need it!"
'That's... a serious problem'
He wiped his mouth, grinning sheepishly. "Look, I know I kept this from you but you know how it is, the more people that knew the harder it be to move around as I am now, especially since not many here know about my condition." He had a point, while Yuki hated him keeping secrets she knew there were far more he had and this was the lesser of the evils. "Now then, how'd it go celebrating your accomplishment with Young Midoriya a while back?"
Yuki's eyes curved happily, giving a thumbs up. "Good, he hasn't got control over my power, it's still alot to handle without real regulation over his power but I gave him a few pointers and he's got the mental image in his head now so no worries, the kid will do fine." All Might was rather laidback about it, since Izuku smashed his arm and legs up the first time, it might not be so easy. "As for you, Young Azuru, I saw that power of yours too, you went above ten percent, didn't you?"
Now it was her turn to be glared at, even with sunken cheeks and dark eyes she felt the cold blue gaze stare back at her. Yuki raised a finger, then brought it down, then made the start of a few hand gestures, then ultimately slumped, nodding shamefully. With that, she earned a soft punch to the forehead, though the mask took the hit it still weighed on her.
"I warned you before about exceeding your limits, you have to cultivate this power of yours slowly, just like Young Midoriya, if you push yourself even to fifty percent it may have some serious side-effects like last time!" He scolded her, but with a sigh, he smiled. "Although you did put on quite the show," Looking back at All Might, he gave her a proud smile. "Keep up the good work!"
With an enthusiastic nod, the two called an end to their chat, it was nearly time for school to start.
The school uniform was alright in Yuki's eyes but she needed some adjustments. So with the time she had and the aid of SIVA, she now wore a short-sleeved blazer with a pair of fingerless gloves and sport shorts hidden under her skirt to stop any perverts from looking under her skirt. After checking it over with All Might he said it wouldn't cause any issues since she was already wearing a mask to begin with, so with that, she walked with confidence.
With a hop and a skip to class, she finally located Class 1-A, and from the looks of it, two people were just at the door. Patting her cheeks under the black fabric of her mask, she prepared for a good impression, can't make a fool of herself, can she? Her skip faltered, who was she kidding? Of course, she's a fool, she wears a mask, even if it was to help her.
"-I admit, as a student you a far superior to me." Now that was a confusing line to pick up on in Yuki's terms, who could - She paused, looking to the guy who called her out due to her mask, then to... Izuku, what was it she missed exactly?
With a tap on the shoulder, Izuku jumped into the class and nearly into the guy. With a short wave, her eyes displayed only kindness toward her friend. Izuku adjusted himself, taking a good look at Yuki before he felt heat slowly rise to his cheeks, why did he check her out!? Sure, she looked really good in a uniform - and his head nearly produced steam.
"Stop it, brain!" He patted his cheeks, even while Yuki looped an arm around his neck, flicking out a note
'Already making a good first impression are we?'
"W-Well, the best I can," Izuku replied, and she released him, giving a salute toward the guy who nearly gave her a panic attack, so, turning the page she held it up to the man
'I'm Azuru Yuki, and you're the one that nearly gave me a panic attack'
He looked ashamed by that. "Right... I am sorry for that, I meant no harm to you of course," Yuki waved passively, patting his shoulder in response
Izuku took the time to explain for her. "Yuki isn't the type to hold it against someone who doesn't know, believe me, I thought it was weird when we first met." She nodded at that, then held a fist out to Izuku which he bumped without hesitation
"Well, I am glad to hear that," He held his hand out, giving Yuki a firm shake. "I am Tenya Iida, please to meet you."
With a wink, Yuki then craned her body around to the curious eyes watching them, so with a page written with bold text, it said. 'Happy to meet all of you, I'm Azuru Yuki, sorry if my mask bothers any of you by the way :)'
"Hey, after what you did back in the mock test I don't mind at all," The guy from the exam, Sero, spoke up with a smile. "In fact it really suits you."
She bowed to that comically, with one of the girls waving her over, a girl with straight, short purplish-black hair and earphone jacks apart of her actual ears, she grinned toward her. "Got you a seat here, unless you want 'that' to get in the way?" The girl pointed to the right, and Yuki felt her eyes flatten, the unstable volcano itself was coming toward her
Izuku was going to jump in to help her but a small peace sign from her was all he needed, even if he was still unsure.
"Hey, Mute, looks like I won our little bet, guess that makes me better than you!" Bakugo yelled triumphantly, only to blink in surprise, Yuki just gave him a pat on the head and walked over to the free seat next to the girl, it only made him explode. "Don't you ignore me!"
'I'm sorry, what did you say? I was ignoring you' Her note burned in Bakugo's hand, his anger rising at her smug attitude. Again, another appeared while several of the students around her tried not to laugh at how much of a joke she made of the ill-tempered Bakugo. 'Sure, you won, but it was just a bit of fun on my end, in the end, it changes nothing, you're still a jerk, so...'
Putting the note down Yuki pulled up a portion of her mask, revealing her mouth that smiled back, then she stuck her tongue out at him. That sent those that watched into a state of laughter while she slipped it back down. However, Bakugo's rage only grew with a fury that burned in his eyes.
"One thing you and Deku have in common... you both don't know when to-!"
"If you're just here to make friends then you can pack up your stuff now." Someone with a monotone voice broke the tension, Bakugo looked toward the door with the rest of the class, Yuki peered up from her chair, eyes dilating at the sight outside the classroom
"What is that thing!?"
What | Is | That?
"Welcome to UA's Hero Course..." A large, yellow sleeping bag replied with a grizzled face sticking out of it with long, black hair. The man just pulled out a carton of something and drank it while lying perpendicular to the floor. He stood up, unzipping the bag and stepping out. "It took you all eight seconds before you shut up, that's not gonna work. Time is precious, rational students would understand that."
Turning to address the class all he spoke with a drained look in his eyes. "Hello, I'm Shota Aizawa, your teacher."
That brought the class to a freeze, even Yuki was surprised, blinking several times.
"Talk about weird." The girl from before whispered, and Yuki nodded, sitting back down with a shrug. "Any idea who he is?" Yuki raised a finger, then just shrugged again
"Right, let's get to it, put these on and head outside." He displayed our P.E uniform, but all that did was raise more questions, although he didn't seem in the mood to answer anything
Everyone was now in the yard, completely missing the orientation ceremony but from what All Might told Yuki the teachers had rein over how they run their classes, so long as it sticks to the guidelines and regulations, from Mr. Aizawa's expression it was hard to tell what he had planned for them. What he did have in mind caught everyone by the tail.
"WHAT? A QUIRK ASSESSMENT TEST!?"
"But orientation, we're gonna miss it?" The girl, Ochaco Uraraka pointed out, and yet Mr. Aizawa had no regard for the event
"If you really want to make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies." He answered, turning to us with a device in his hand. "Here at UA we're not tethered to traditions, that means I get to run my class however I see fit. You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives, but you never got to use your Quirks in physical exams before." He displayed someone's numbers for everyone as an example, they were average, really good too but not anything special
"The country still likes to pretend that we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational, one day the Ministry of Education will learn." With that being said, he made an example of this with Bakugo, allowing him to throw a softball that usually landed him around 76 meters, now, he could use his Quirk to enhance this, brining up a score of over 700, surprising quite a number of people
It started to click with Yuki, if this relied on Quirks then above everyone else here... her eyes drifted to Izuku, seeing him stiffen at the explanation while watching Bakugo walk back smugly. Everyone started to get hyped up by the idea, and yet Yuki wasn't smiling, something about it all had her body tremble a bit.
"Hey, what's up?" The girl from before, Jiro, who was actually pretty cool in Yuki's eyes caught her uncertainty. With a single motion of a thumb she brought it across her throat, simply put, they were dead
"So this looks fun... huh?" Mr. Aizawa made his move, and Jiro caught on to what Yuki meant by her action, it was clear that this wasn't simply out of the goodwill of a teacher, this was a hard lesson of life and they were all the pieces of the game. "You have three years here to become a hero, you think it's all going to be games and playtime?"
He finally smiled, but nothing comforting came from it. "Idiots. Today you will compete in eight tests to gauge your potential, the person in last has none and will be expelled immediately."
"WHAT!?" Everyone felt it, the weight now on their shoulders. Yuki wasn't so unsure of herself but Izuku was already singled out as she feared, he looked terrified, but there was nothing she could do to help him if she did it may end poorly
"I'm sorry... but if I help you in any way..." Yuki's thoughts froze, gulping at the last few words. "You'll die."
"Like I said I get to decide how this class runs," Mr. Aizawa lifted his hair, showing off his toothy grin and beady eyes. "Understand? If you got a problem you can head home right now." Yuki's eyes narrowed, hands balling up, even so, she won't fail now, for the people who got her this far she can't fail too
"You can't send one of us home! We just got here, even if it wasn't the first day that's not fair!" Ochaco argued, and yet not a single eye was batted from Mr. Aizawa
"And you think natural disasters are? Are power-hungry villains, hmm? Are catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is filled with unfairness, its a hero's job to combat that unfairness, if you want to be a hero you have to push yourself to the brink. For three years UA will throw one terrible hardship after another, so go beyond, plus ultra style." Yuki could understand his methods, this wasn't a simple case of a bad teacher, he knew the risks and was willing to push all of them, tooth and nail, to live through these expectations, to smash the unfair world... the very thing she desired to shatter most
With a taunt, he grinned. "Show its no mistake you're here." And so it began
The first was s fifty-meter sprint. It was Yuki and a boy with white and red hair, while not really talking Yuki prepared herself. With her body tensed she harnessed her power, feeling SIVA flow into her body.
SIVA | Enhance | Five Percent
With a bang the two kicked off the ground, the boy using ice to cover his track and make it first, but a mere inch behind him Yuki followed, her feet leaving rough scores in the ground while shattering the ice.
"5.15 Seconds!" The robot exclaimed, it wasn't much but to gain that speed in a heartbeat did help in the long run, after all, she has run across buildings before
Next was a grip test, with compression of over 150 pounds, Yuki had given more than enough against those without strength in their Quirks. But out the corner of her eye she saw Izuku struggling without his Quirk, he was trying but it was obvious control wasn't within his grasp yet.
"Nice score, you look like us and yet you pulled off a score like that!?" A bubbly, pink girl, Mina spoke up with surprise, looking down at her own number, pouting. "All I got was a big fat 54..."
"Heh, still better than me." Jiro held her own hand up casually, displaying the 50 on her's. Then she played with her earphone jacks. "Not much I can do in terms of strength with these, anything to do with vibration and sound I'm a knock-out."
'That's true. But all your Quirks are amazing, you just have to learn to master all you can, that's all :)' With that, they both smiled
A standing long-jump. With no effort, Yuki hurdled herself over the sand, grazing the edge with a slight wobble but stuck the landing. Izuku... hit the ground, but he made a very good distance so that was still better than nothing. Izuku was watching Yuki, trying to mimic her simplistic moves in order to gain an advantage.
"She's giving it her all just like the rest, but she's probably worried about me," Izuku shook his head, frowning with a determined face. "I can't let her worry, I can still do this!"
Repeated side-steps. This one had Yuki in a bind, she had never done such complex maneuvering from side to side, usually only jumping once every few seconds so her score wasn't great since she hit the dirt, the strength behind her legs was too much to constantly fall back on. But it was a good score none-the-less.
The dreaded ball throw was next. Ochaco threw the ball... it got higher... and higher... wow.
Yuki blinked, then Aizawa displayed the score, making her eyes nearly bulge through the lights and glass.
Error | Error | Error
"INFINITY!?"
"How's that even possible!?" Yuki had to agree with the electric boy, it was ridiculous, even for a Quirk, Yuki was next to last, that being Izuku himself. Yuki braced her body, folding her arms with a tense stance as the energy around her started to buzz more clearly in the air, exciting murmurs from the class
SIVA | Enhance | Twelve Percent
Her entire right hand radiated with heat, the red strikes of lightning dancing around her arm while her right eye turned a deep shade of scarlet. The fingers turned to black metal claws, clutching the ball tighter as her muscle fibers reinforced. Cracking her neck she took a step back, then, with a powerful stomp her body craned forward again, the ball overclocked with energy as red particles danced alongside the ball as it left her hand with a sonic boom of red wind, hurdling the ball far through the air to the point no naked eye could track.
It touched down, but far outside of the yard. Flicking the device around, the class gasped. Over 1000 meters, flicking SIVA off Yuki flexed her fingers and walked back to the class, Jiro giving her a thumbs up
"Impressive throw." Hearing this made her bashful, so she held up a note
'Thank you... with mine being an enhancing Quirk this sort of test is up my alley, though I guess for people like you and Izuku it could be tough' This made her blink, looking to Izuku who watched nervously from the sidelines
"Why, I thought his was a Quirk like yours?" Yuki shook her head, flip-flopping her hand
'It is but he can't control it, when he uses it the feedback breaks his bones, so he's been stressed out this whole time...' Yuki's note, followed by her saddened eyes gave Jiro the answer she needed, Yuki was worried he'd be expelled. So with a pat to the back, Jiro grinned
"No worries, If he made it past the exam then he's got something up his sleeve right?" Slowly, Yuki nodded. "Then don't worry, he'll pull it off."
Yuki really hopped so too, Mr. Aizawa is going to single him out, and that made her worry even more, but she had to have faith in Izuku, he isn't a person to back down, even with an unstable Quirk.
He looked lost in thought, maybe trying to psych himself up, or maybe he knew that if he didn't give it his all it would be over. Izuku took his stance, the reddish-purple lines coursed over his arm, and just then, a flash of red caught in Yuki's eye. The ball left his hand, only landing 46 meters away, and his face plummeted. Yuki saw it, his Quirk activated and yet...
"What gives? I swore I activated it just now?" He looked down at his hand, completely lost while Yuki's eyes widened
"Oh crap, I forgot who Mr. Aizawa was!" Her head turned, seeing the binds of his scarf floating through the air, eyes a bright red through his wavy locks. "The Eraser Hero!"
"I erased your Quirk, the judges for this exam were not rational enough." Eraser Head spoke in a deep, irritated voice. "Someone like you should never be allowed to enroll at this school."
"-Those goggles, I know you! You can erase a person's Quirk just by looking at them. You're the Eraser Hero, Eraser Head!" He was right to panic now since he was powerless, even Yuki wouldn't know how SIVA would react to his Quirk given her's... interesting development
"You're not ready, you don't have control over your power." Mr. Aizawa continued to berate Izuku. "Were you planning to break your bones again? Rely on someone else to save your useless body?"
"No, that's not what I was trying to do-!" His binds reached out, ensnaring Izuku and dragging him forward and nearly out of earshot of Yuki his voice getting lower
"No matter what your intentions are, you would be nothing more than a liability in battle, you have the same reckless passion of another overzealous hero I know, one who saved a thousand people by himself and became a legend," Mr. Aizawa berated both Izuku and All Might, while the rest couldn't hear them Yuki, on the other hand, felt her blood boil, bad, vile images splicing into her thoughts
Sorry, kid, but at this point in your life, you haven't developed any of the key signs for a Quirk
Her teeth ground under her mask, a hand drawing blood.
It's okay sweetie, I promise, everything will be alright
Yuki could feel her vision blur, static in her head caused her feet to start moving forward, anger seeping into her stomach.
In your condition, you might not ever walk again, let alone use one arm. I'm sorry
Mr. Aizawa continued to glare down at Izuku, binds locking him in place. "-Even with that drive, you're worthless if you can only throw a single punch before breaking down. I'm sorry Midoriya, but with your power, there is no way you can become a hero."
*Snatch*
Izuku was upset, both at himself and how hurtful Mr. Aizawa's words were to him, it was as if everything he thought never mattered after obtaining a Quirk came surfacing back. He couldn't control his Quirk, but even so, he couldn't just be told to give up, not after coming so far to be All Might's successor. And yet, he wasn't alone in that uphill battle.
Izuku stared in surprise while Mr. Aizawa's red gaze locked with Yuki's equally firm glare, the mask radiating with scarlet while her bleeding hand pulled back on the dense fabric binding Izuku, her hand trembled with fury, her eyes narrowed back at the teacher while the class watched, unable to hear them.
"What do you think you're doing? Protecting him when you clearly see it too, his Quirk destroys his body," His pitch never rose but it was like daggers to their skin, and yet Yuki never relented, holding up a new note for him to read
'Let my best friend go. Teacher or not I won't let one of the reasons I'm standing here be pushed around because someone thinks he knows him'
Their staring contest lasted a good few seconds, with Izuku sweating nervously. With a blink, the bind floated back around Mr. Aizawa's neck, hair flopping back to normal too. He undid the binding and pushed Izuku back into Yuki's arms, her glare finally settling down.
"I've returned your impractical Quirk, take your final throw... hurry up and get it over with." With that he walked away, leaving Izuku with his head down in defeat, while Yuki tapped his face, their gazes locked while she made sure he was okay, but it was clear he had no clue what to do
"Thanks... but he's right, with my Quirk the way it is I... don't really have any other options," Her grip on his shoulders tightened, and with a soft tap of her knuckle to his forehead he snapped out of this trance
'I have faith in you, win or lose give it your all'
It wasn't much in the way of actual advice, but the words meant alot to keep his spirit high, she knew he had a fire burning in his eyes still, he just had to let it out himself. To wield a Quirk of such intense power was a burden, but if given time she knew Izuku would become a powerhouse.
Izuku bore his teeth, eyes the size of pins with a firm grip on the ball. "I have to try something! I'll take a page from Yuki, I'll copy her for now!" He craned his arm back, energy flowing into his arm and into his hand. Yuki was sure it was - She stepped forward slightly, mouth ajar
"No way!" His energy was dissipating, but not completely, the ball was leaving his hand, and yet a small, radiant source of One for All resonated in his index finger. "Just like me! Heh, not bad, Izuku!"
At the last possible point of contact, Izuku fired off his Quirk with a 'SMASH', the shockwave blazing through the air in several rings of wind, the ball soaring through the sky and back onto the other end of the pitch. Despite the obvious blowback, he turned, clenching his fist with only a single, broken finger, surprising Aizawa so much that he grinned, with Yuki trying not to look at him smugly.
"Mr. Aizawa... you see, I'm still standing." It was unbearable but Izuku bit his tongue and rolled with the punches as usual
"This kid...!"
It took everyone by storm, Yuki would have been ready to applaud him if not for SIVA going off in her eyes.
Warning | Threat-Level | Dumb
She knew this warning from before! Small explosions went off, and Bakugo raced off from the crowd toward Izuku with murder written in his eyes. "Hey, Deku you bastard, tell me how you did that or you're dead!"
Infusing her body with SIVA Yuki pushed off her left foot, soaring past the gap between her and the now paralyzed with fear, Izuku, his hair even stood up higher than normal. Stomping down on the ground, Yuki turned to Bakugo with her fists ready to knock Bakugo on his ass. Then she blinked, seeing the bindings trap Bakugo and disable his Quirk.
Too bad it gave him serious dry eye, Aizawa's Quirk was amazing.
The rest of the exams went off without a hitch, although Bakugo's glare never faltered, in the end they were tired but anxious for the results.
"Alright, time to give you your results, I ranked you all from best-to-worst, you should all have a clear understanding of your position now." It was time and it made Yuki's stomach twist, she knew she couldn't be last but... Izuku...
Compassion | Unclear | Illogical
That was true, to anyone they may think they were a couple or something, but the truth of the matter was simple to her. Izuku, a boy without a Quirk and given nothing but grief for it, and offered the same hand she was given. He was her with a voice, with a passion voiced without restraint. Izuku was the only person in the world that understood her so well without knowing her past at all. It's why she wanted him to grow stronger beside her because she had a best friend that she couldn't live without now.
The scores came alive, and from the start, it was clear as rain.
Yuki ranked Fourth.
Izuku Ranked Twentieth.
"I passed..."
"I failed..."
The scores vanished. "And I was lying no one's going home." Silent rang over them all, most with eyes frozen in place, mouths agape. He set them all up. With a cheeky grin, he answered their burning hatred. "That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests."
"WHAT!?"
"I thought the rest of you figured that out, I'm sorry I guess I should have said something." A taller girl with a spiky ponytail apologized plainly, with Yuki going up to her with burning eyes, falling to her knees with stress while holding up a note on fire
'I WAS READY TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?'
Later that day...
"Ugh, I'm so tired..." Izuku was completely drained from being fixed up that he didn't even mind leaning against Yuki for support, although, she'd appreciate it if he didn't lean on her chest, but it didn't really matter, he wasn't paying attention at all. "Thanks, Yuki... sorry for making you worry all day too..."
With a click of her tongue and a pat on Izuku's head, she thanked him. 'No sweat. Really did have me worried but I told you I had faith in you, it's funny, you really do analyze people, huh?'
He finally perked up, raising his head with a bashful smile. "Well yeah, I like keeping records of heroes and there Quirks so... that meant you too." That made her smile, even if only her eyes expressed it. Then it dawned on him. "Wait, what is your Quirk?" Now it was Yuki's turn to look bashful. "I know it enhances your body but that's all I know, but what is it?"
With a flick, another note was placed in his hands. 'Later, I promise. My Quirk is... different.'
Before another line of questions could occur, a hand tapped the back of Izuku's shoulder. "Oh, hey there, Iida."
Iida stood there, stern as ever. "How's the broken finger doing?"
"Oh, it's doing fine thanks to Recovery Girl," Even Izuku couldn't hide the grimacing factor of that Quirk, even Yuki found it awkward for her leg and arm
Overall the three went about their walk with Iida expression concern for Mr. Aizawa's methods but he ultimately let it go, it was a strange way to govern a class, but after the training, Yuki went through with All Might for years she didn't really mind, it was more due to the fact Izuku was targetted for his lack of control, but the look on his face was enough to keep her worries low.
"Hey, wait up you three!" They turned, seeing Ochaco running up to meet them, of course, Izuku got flustered and Yuki's knowing look and taunting wasn't helping
"Please don't?" She shook her head, poking at his side with an arm around his neck. "I'm begging you, I can't handle anymore, my world's all over the place!"
'You're cute when you're flustered', Yuki teased, seeing his face burn brighter
"You're the infinity girl." Iida pointed out, with said 'Infinity girl' putting a hand on her chest
"I'm Ochaco Uraraka," Opening her eyes she pointed between them. "Let's see, you're Tenya Iida, Azuru Yuki, and Deku, right? Midoriya?"
That almost made Izuku fall over and Yuki herself but in a fit of silent laughter. It was an insult but Izuku told her not to worry about it, so now it was funny how she thought that was his name from how Bakugo reacted. "I have to admit, I didn't expect your girlfriend to jump in like that, you looked ready to throw down!"
Now it was Yuki's turn to turn red under her mask while Izuku all but stopped functioning. With a shake of her head, she put an arm around Izuku and held out the note. 'Cute as that statement is, we're not together, we've been friends for about a few months now, even helped to train him up myself'. FYI, his name is Izuku Midoriya, Bakugo is a jerk and calls him that to mock him'
"That's rather unsportsmanlike." Iida murmured, with Yuki rolling her eyes in agreement
"Right, hehe, sorry!" She was forgiven for being too sweet. "Anyway, I like Deku, it would make a great hero name! Plus I think it's kind of cute." Ochaco just hit the nail and Yuki raised her hands in defeat
'You've done it now'
"Deku it is!" Izuku was a great guy but his weakness was girls, who knew?
"Just like that?" Iida blurted out, trying to understand while Yuki simply put a hand on his shoulder, giving him a solemn stare. He was lost, and Iida had to realize that soon before he fell into a rabbit hole too. "But... weren't you saying... that it was an insult?"
He turned away in shame, face on fire from all the words spoken. "M-My whole world is upside down, hehehe..." It was sad to watch him fall
Yuki raised a white flag for him too. The day came to a close with an uncountable amount of events.
To Be Continued...
Lots for this one and after next week's chapter we'll get the first significant battle between Deku and Bakugo, with a battle from Yuki too, for now, some slice of life. I hope you enjoyed, seeya in the next perfected chapter!
Next Chapter: The Perfect Lie
Izuku invites Yuki over for the afternoon and from there she finally reveals to him the secret of her Quirk. Of SIVA.
