Things Happen (5th revised version; Batherine)
Summary: Set in 2x19 "S**t Happens." When they get separated, can Kat save his life when Bass falls into the hole?
It was a beautiful day, as Bass and a human Kat went their separate ways, looking for Miles. They weren't certain which direction Miles had gone after emptying his gun, so they'd separated from one another.
After a while, Kat saw Bass approaching her.
"You couldn't find anything?" she inquired of him.
"Yeah. I reached a dead end. You?"
"I found his jacket, but nothing else. And I'm not a vampire anymore. I can't follow any scents, much less his. Any ideas?" she replied, standing by a hill his jacket was on.
"We should go up. If he's hurt or needs shelter, he'd go up. That's what I'd do," he replied, before going up the hill and walking through what looked like a used to be cemetery. There were very little headstones, though.
Kat picked up the jacket, before finally following Bass. Since she was a distance away, she wasn't close enough to help him. She could only rush over to the hole Bass fell in.
When she reached the hole, she saw him on his side, wood on him partly. It looked like he also wasn't awake.
"Bass!" she called, trying to wake him up, as she thought of a way to get to him in the hole. He didn't wake up yet though, and there wasn't anything she could use. So, when she saw that he didn't wake up, she used the bank part of the hole to get down there with him. Then, when she'd gotten into the hole, she took the wood off him and knelt at his side. "Bass, I need you to wake up," she said, a hand on him, as she assessed as to whether or not he was injured from the fall. She needed him awake, because she couldn't get him out of the hole by herself, so she needed him to help her get him out.
A few minutes later, he finally woke up to see her at his side.
"Katherine," he said.
"It's me. Let's get you out of here," she replied. Then, after telling him that, she noticed an injury to his side, but close to his abdomen. It looked like maybe a piece of wood had stabbed into him a little, but it wasn't in him. She knew it couldn't have been done when she'd removed the wood on top of him, though.
He began to get up, which she helped him do. Then she helped him and herself get out of the hole. Then, once they were both out of the hole, she used her jacket to tie around his wound, before they both finally spoke.
"Let's get you back to town and tended to. I'll come back on my own and find Miles. You know I can take care of myself," she told him.
"You're right. Let's go," he replied.
Once he'd been tended to in the town they were staying in, she went back out to go find Miles, which she found a few hours later and got him back to town and also tended to. So, everyone survived yet another day.
