The town gasps and people frown, and whispers begin to spread as Alma looks at the candle in concern and at Mirabel. This was supposed to be simple; Mirabel would grab the door, it would light up and shine for a minute, but then suddenly, it would reveal what her gift was. Only that didn't happen, the door had just disappeared.

The townspeople are whispering to each other, they have questions, "What happening? Is the magic dying?"

Isabela looks concerned, not over the magic or the townspeople whispering, but for her sister, and she glances at Luisa in silent communication, 'We have to do something about this.'

Luisa nods in agreement and then frowns slightly, 'But what?'

Isabela smiles lightly, "I got this. Dolores, let's have a sleep over in my room with Mirabel tonight to help cheer her up, what do you say?"

Dolores whispers, talking softly, "I say, sure, we need to help Mirabel. Of course, in a strange way, this is a good thing, we just have to convince Mirabel of that."

The townspeople continue to whisper, some even wondering if Mirabel is a Madrigal or not.

Isabela can feel her anger build up inside her and she says through clinched teeth, "Dolores, cover your ears." She warns her, not wanting to cause her more pain than what she is going to experience anyway. After she sees Dolores comply in doing so, she yells out, "Everybody shut up! You know what, none of this really matters, this is now a family affair, not an event of celebration for the town to be with, so everybody just get out right now! Quit whispering these stupid false things simply because something didn't happen! Did it ever occur to any of you people that we could hear what you are saying?! Did you ever wonder that we, especially Mirabel, would know what you mean?! Did you ever stop to think on how you'd make a five-year-old feel?! It was here in this house that Mama gave birth to Mirabel! I came in to hold her right after she was born. I would swore to always love and protect her from anything and everything! As I already said, get out!" No one moves, all to shocked to hear this eleven-year-old yelling at them, "Casita!" The house comes alive and begin to push the people out the door and Isabela rushes up the stairs and hugs Mirabel, "Don't believe it baby sister, don't believe it, not for a second."

Mirabel, who was shocked and disappointed and then in awe once her sister started yelling and making a scene and then doing something so unlike her, she feels a sense of warmth and safety wash over her and she also feels a sense of joy, feeling for perhaps the first time in her life, how deep her sister's love for her runs and she begins to cry, her tears soaking the front of Isabela's dress, who picks up the five year old and carries her to her room.

Isabela gently puts Mirabel down on her bed and gives her a kiss on the forehead and smiles lightly, "You know, there was nothing that you did or didn't do. So don't go thinking that this was your fault or anything, it was just something that had happened. It also could be that you are already so wonderful, you don't need a gift to prove it."

Mirabel rubs her eyes, "But, I wanted to do something special, to be able to stand out and make the family proud."

Isabela ruffles her hair gently, "Sweetie, you make the family proud, just by being who you are, or at least, you make me and Luisa proud. Our real gift was not being able to grow roses or lift buildings. Our real gift came to us when I was six and when Luisa was four. Our gift was you Mirabel, our baby sister. Never let anyone make you feel any less than you are simply because you don't have some magic power okay?"

Mirabel looks at her and hugs Isabela once again, "Isa, will we always be best friends?"

Isabela smiles and looks at her, "Of course baby sister. Oh wait, there was something that I was going to give you, after your gift ceremony. Despite it not working, I still want you to have it." She takes off a necklace and smiles and reaches over and gently starts to put it on her.

Mirabel looks at her, "Come on, I can't take this, it's yours."

Isabela looks at her, "It was mine, mine to give away and now it is yours baby sis."

Soon Luisa and Dolores come in, already dressed in their pjs and they've also raided the kitchen bringing soda and snacks and pillows and other things for the sleepover. Isabela changes into her pjs and has Casita bring Mirabel's pj to them and helps her out of her dress and into her pj's and smiles lightly at her. While the sleepover is going on with the standard usual thing, gossiping and all of that. A feeling of closeness for Dolores that she had never necessarily had with her cousins before tonight, she speaks up, "My gift can feel like a curse at times, no, I mean it, it really can, it's something that I can't turn off and it gives me a headache almost constantly once people are all talking at once. I just wish that I could block them out, make them all shut up. I am glad that my room is soundproof, it gives me like a major break from all the constant noise and hearing things that I don't want to hear or even shouldn't hear." She tells Mirabel gently, wanting her to see that there is a downside to having a gift.

Luisa looks at her, "And super strength, all the chores I have to do, it is exhausting. Our grandmother believes that we need to constantly use our gifts to earn the miracle, but I don't know if I really believe that I mean after all, we didn't ask for them, I'd be fine without having one and just being a normal nine-year-old. You may not feel like it now, but you are lucky little sis, you really are."

Isabela smiles, "She is right baby sister, you get to grow and discover who you are as a person and not have some magic power overwhelm and define you to others. You can do and be whatever you want to be, in a way, the real gift was given tonight, and that gift was not being burden by a magical gift and being free." She takes her over to a mirror, "What do you see?"

Mirabel looks in the mirror, "I see me, and my wonderful sisters and awesome cousin around me." She smiles lightly, "No, the real gift is that you three decided to be here to support me."

Not long after that, Mirabel, who was worn out, falls asleep snuggled up to Isabela on her bed.

Luisa looks over at Isabela, "I hope you know that tomorrow, mom and dad are probably going to have to ground you or something to appease grandmother, she wasn't happy with your outburst."

Isabela frowns before smiling, "Frankly, I don't care a bit on if they ground me for a week or a month. I almost wish that I had said some bad words to at least have earned the grounding, but there are children present, so it is perhaps a good thing that I didn't."

Luisa can't help but giggle, "Isa, so what are we going to do about Mirabel, I mean, we can't just let her stay in the nursery."

Isabela looks down at her sleeping little sister, "I'd be more than happy to have her as a roommate, but I don't want to make it always seem like I am flaunting my gift in front of her." She focuses and has the flowers disappear, "They will grow back in a few hours, it is the magic and not me that is keeping them here."

Luisa smiles, "We will talk to mom and dad tomorrow, who knows, maybe we can ask Casita for help here."

Isabela smiles, "Maybe…" She thinks to herself, 'But maybe Mirabel will have to be the one to ask Casita for help with this one. Of course, if it doesn't happen, as I said, I'd love to have you as a roommate baby sister. We will all face what is coming tomorrow together. We'll stand together, I won't abandoned you.'

Although they didn't know it yet, that night had changed the entire fate of the family and the future that they would face.
