Mirabel wakes up in the nursery, she had started sleeping there again after Antonio started sleeping in there, that way she could be there for him in case he had nightmares. Of course, Camilo would at times sleep there instead so that they could have a girl's night in Isabela's room. She smiles, 'Isa has always been there for me. I wonder if I should talk to Abuela about Isa's engagement plan to Mariano. Since Isabela doesn't want to marry him and I know Dolores is into him.' She grabs her bag and gets up, she creates and embroidery and sews her own things, and does the same for Isabela's dresses and Dolores's stuff as well. As Isabela had told her all those years ago, she could be special herself, by developing her own gifts as well, "Make my family proud." She runs downstairs and runs past the picture of their grandfather, "Morning Abuelo." She begins to get to work on setting the kitchen table, little kids are calling out to her, another thing that she is good at or has a 'gift' for, is being good with kids.
"Hey, when is the magic gift happening?"
She smiles, "My cousin's ceremony is tonight." She says as she begins to set the table and she already knows what is coming.
Another kid calls out insisting, "What's his gift?" She smiles at the kid as if the kid somehow thinks that she will magically know the answer.
She shakes her head, "We're going to find out." She informs him, knowing that the kid doesn't realize that they won't simply already know.
"What's your gift?" the third kid calls out and she is still amused by this.
She decides to get a bit snarky, although almost everyone in the village knows that she doesn't have one, she is a bit surprised that the little kids didn't know, "Who's asking?" She asks in her own playful tone
"Us." The kids insist waiting for an answer eagerly.
She rolls her eyes, "Well us, I can't just talk about myself, I'm only part of the amazing Madrigals." She tells them already knowing what is coming next.
"Who are the Amazing Madrigals?" They ask, she knows kids, they have no filter and they say whatever is on their mind, whatever they think of, truthfully, she finds it refreshing, she only pretends to ever be exasperated by them, when the reality is she loves it.
She smiles and then begins, "Ah, you're not going to leave me alone, are you?" She grins, "Casita, help me out, Drawers, Floors, Doors." She says as she moves, the drawers and floors creating a rhythm, while the doors glow brighter.
"There is our home, we got every generation, so full of music, a rhythm of its own design." She knocks on Camilo's door and then she simply butt bumps Dolores's door.
"This is my family a glowing constellation. So many stars and everybody gets to shine."
She opens the door to Isabela's room and Isabela's just getting up and she goes over and hugs her, "Tonight is going to be a bit hard, I know that, are you going to be okay baby sis?" She asks looking at her concern.
Mirabel smiles, "I am not that little girl standing at that door anymore, I've grown, because of you, because of Luisa and Dolores, we are all more than just our gifts. Now, I am explaining to some kids about how or family works, want to help?"
Isabela grins, "A chance to live down my perfect image, thought you'd never ask."
"But let's be clear, Abuela runs this show." Isabela cuts it with her own words, "She's obsessed with how the family's image glows."
Mirabel cuts her off, not wanting to hear the worst in her grandmother, "She led us here so many years ago, And every year our family blessing grows." Isabela cuts in once again, "The blessing should be the kids in the house, but no."
They begin to head out and they are now singing together, "It's just a lot you simply got to know. Welcome to Family Madrigal. The home of family Madrigal, we're on our way, where all the people are fantastical and magical. We're part of family Madrigal."
The three kids surround Isabela and Mirabel excitedly, "Oh my gosh it's them, I can't remember all the gifts, tell us everything, what are your powers? I don't know who is who." The kids say, focusing more on Mirabel than Isabela who is happy to take a back seat because she doesn't have as much patience with kids as Mirabel does. At least, not when they are hyperactive like this.
Mirabel tries to calm them down, "Alright, Alright, relax."
The kids speak up, "It is physically impossible to relax. Just tell us what everyone can do." One kid says, holding a cup of coffee which causes Isabela to feel concern, coffee at that age is surely not good for a kid.
Mirabel takes the cup away, "And that's why coffee is for grown-ups."
Isabela bends down and touches his shoulder, "Yeah little guy, you shouldn't drink coffee at your age, it can hurt you later on in life." She smiles lightly at the kid, she has some maternal instincts from always trying to help Mirabel when she was younger, but isn't one for hyper activeness, since Mirabel was never a hyperactive child.
Mirabel begins to sing once again, "My Tia Pepa, her mood affects the weather." Isabela interrupts once again, "Yeah, she suppresses her emotions every day." Mirabel ignores her, "When she's unhappy, the temperature gets weird. My Tio Bruno." This time, it is the town's people that interrupt, "We don't talk about Bruno." "They say he saw the future." Isabela interrupts, "Got blamed for natural occurrences that came the town's way." "One day they say he disappeared." They sing together, perfectly harmonizing, "Oh, and here's our mom Julietta, here's her deal, the truth is she can heal you with a meal. Her recipe are remedies for real. If you're impressed, imagine how we feel." Their mom stops to kiss them both on the cheek and they both call out in faux embarrassment, "Mom."
They begin to sing in harmony, "Welcome to Family Madrigal, the home of the family Madrigal, I know it all sounds a bit fantastical and magical, we're part of family Madrigal. Two guys fell in love with family Madrigal, now they're part of family Madrigal, Our Tio Felix married Pepa and our dad married Julietta, and that's how Abuela became an Abuela."
Abuela Alma moves with grace and practice poise that commands respect and dignity, although not official or anything, it is like she is the mayor of the city, "We swear to always help those around us, to earn the miracle that somehow found us, the town keeps growing, the world keeps turning, but work and dedication will keep the miracle burning." Isabela is unable to resist, "Easy for you to say when you don't have to lift a finger and just command what we do." "And each new generation must keep the miracle burning."
The kids interrupt once again in confusion, "Wait, who's the sister and who's the cousin? There is so many people, how do you keep them all straight?"
Mirabel smiles in amusement and then begins to sing, "So many kids in our house, now let's turn the sound up, you know why? I think it's time for a grandkid roundup." Isabela looks amused, "Seriously, Grandkid roundup, that was the best you could do?" She asks; however she doesn't know what she herself would say in this situation.
Mirabel ignores her sister's playful teasing, "Cousin Dolores can hear a pin drop." "Yeah and also every bad word you say." "Camilo shapeshifts." "Tries to get seconds that way. Antonio gets his gift today."
Mirabel has Isa move to the side, "My older sisters Isabela and Luisa. One strong, one graceful, perfect in every way." The town's people call out Isabela's name, "Grows the flowers and the town goes wild, she trapped in being the perfect golden child. And Luisa super strong, the beauty and the brawn do no wrong. Now you know Family Madrigal, that's life in family Madrigal, That's life in Family Madrigal, where all the people are fantastical and magical, that who we are in family Madrigal. Adios."
One of the kids stops her before she can leave, "But what's your gift."
She bends down, this is hard to explain to little kids to where they understand it, "Well my little friend, I wasn't given a magical gift like the rest of my family. I got something better, I got a choice, to learn the skills that I have, to be who I want to be, Isa is stuck trying to be perfect because of the gift that she has, Luisa is stuck doing a lot of hard work all the time because of the gift that she has. I was given a gift that my sisters would trade their gifts for in a heartbeat, freedom. Unlike them, I am not a slave to a single magical gift, I was capable of growing and learning and developing talents all my own." She smiles, "My gift is that I am just like the rest of you."
She begins to head home, leaving the kids behind and the delivery man arrives and gives her the not special special. She scoffs, and she is also told to tell Antonio good luck and that last gift ceremony was a bummer, the last one being hers that didn't work. She frowns, she isn't saying a word to her sweet little cousin, he is already scared that it won't work. They had been sorta preparing Camilo to help him the way that her older sisters and Dolores had helped her all those years ago. She walks into the house, carrying the stuff while thinking to herself, 'It's got to work, for his sake, I need it to work.' She notices that Pepa is freaking out and messing up the flowers.
Isabela comes from the second floor, "Did someone say flowers?" She swings down on a vine and makes the flowers bloom and then she uses the vines to help Mirabel carry the stuff, "A little sisterly advice, you don't have to carry all of that one at a time." She tells her playfully.
Mirabel smiles and response back, "Thanks Isa, oh and a little sisterly advice to you as well, you wouldn't always be stuck playing the role of the perfect golden child if you just let yourself just be from time to time and not be perfect." She tells her playfully.
Isabela sighs, "I know, I know, god, it's exhausting, after Antonio gets his gift and everything, can we have a sleepover just you and me, I need to talk to my baby sister."
Mirabel hugs her, "I'm here for you, you know that."
Isabela returns the hug, "I know, now go on, go and get to work yourself, set up the surprise and maybe find Antonio and give him some encouragement." She lets go of Mirabel and looks at her, "You made yourself as amazing as the rest of us by developing your own skills, all without a gift, Antonio can do that too if the worst happens. You know that, don't you?"
Mirabel shakes her head, "We need him to get his gift, if he doesn't, Abuela will find a way to blame me. I am sure of that, then what, who knows? She may kick me out of the house."
Isabela eyes darkens and vines wrap around Mirabel as she pulls her back into a forceful hug, holding her there with the vines, "That is happening over my dead body, and don't you dare ever think about leaving like Uncle Bruno did either, do you hear me? You are not allowed to leave us; you are not allowed to leave me. I need you here."
Mirabel manages to fight off her own tears, it has nothing to do with the tightness of the vines, even now her sister maintains perfect control over her plants and keeps them from hurting her, just hearing how much her big sister needs her here for her. "I promise sis, I am not going anywhere."
Isabela smiles, "Good." She kisses her forehead, "Now come on, we all have stuff to do and go find Antonio. He needs your help."
Mirabel walks toward the nursery, knowing that is where he will be at, he is underneath the bed and she holds the present down, "Everyone is looking for you…this present will self-destruct if you don't take it in 3…2…" A little hand reaches out to take it before she says one and she climbs beneath the bed and lays on her stomach next to her, "Nervous?"
Antonio looks at her, "What if it doesn't work?" He whispers, nervous at the idea.
Mirabel looks at her favorite baby cousin, "Well, if that happened, then I'd guess the two of us will stay in the nursery and I will get you all to myself and you can help me in the plan for the giftless to lead the family and prove that the giftless can be as special as important as the gifted." She smiles and then she begins to tell him, "But don't worry, you are getting to get your special gift and your door and it will be so cool. I know it." She tells him to reassure him.
Antonio frowns, "I wish you could have a door."
Mirabel smiles, "You don't have to worry about any of that, because I have an amazing house, an amazing family, especially my sisters, and if you ever feel alone or scared, you don't have to stay in your new room, you can always come to me, it doesn't matter if I am sleeping here or in Isa's room or anywhere else. My arms are always open for my little buddy." She pulls him into a hug, "But alas, I will miss having the world's best little roomie. Now come on, open your present."
Antonio opens his gift to reveal a skillfully made stuffed leopard, "Wow."
Mirabel smiles, "I know you are an animal guy, so when you moved into your cool new room and slept at night, you'd always have something to snuggle with." She smiles and then Casita brings the clock over to them, revealing that it is time to go, "Welp, show time little buddy. Sorry, I got to get one last squeeze." She pulls him into another hug.
