Tia Pepa bends down to hug her son, "Look at you, all grown up." She says, having tears and a cloud form above her.
Felix brushes the cloud away, "Mi Amor, you're going to get him all wet."
Camilo transforms into a smaller version of Felix, "You are making your papa proud." He says in a perfect imitation.
Mirabel smiles, realizing that Camilo is intentionally trying to be funny to distract Antonio from his worries, something that obviously goes over the heads of Pepa and Felix, as she looks at Dolores and nods in understanding and smiles reassuringly, she doesn't know why she wasn't given a gift, but even though she wasn't, she hopes that Antonio gets a gift, but they are prepared for the worst case scenario if that ends up being the case, they all know that she, more than anyone, hopes that Antonio gets his gift and doesn't find himself scorned and ignored. Soon enough, she is standing at the side as Antonio is set up to walk to the door, she wonders what all she had missed in her internal musings and wonders why Antonio isn't moving.
Antonio looks over and reaches a hand out to her with begging eyes.
Mirabel feels nervous, if she walks him to the door and he doesn't get a gift, they'll blame her for it and she whispers, "I can't.." She hopes that he understands why.
Antonio continues to hold his hand out, "I need you."
Mirabel walks over and takes Antonio's hand, she stares ahead, she has made peace with that night a long time ago, or at least, she thought she had, now suddenly, it is like she is back there once again. Many others gasp and some even whisper, "It's the curse." "She's going to ruin the gift ceremony." "Poor kid, doesn't even realize what his cousin will do to him." She smiles at him, "Come on, let's get you to your door." They begin to walk together; Mirabel attempts to drown out the whispers that are continuing allows herself to slip into her memories of that night and the trauma once again.
She vaguely hears her grandmother say the words, "And strengthen our home." She sees Antonio reach toward the door, and it lights up and then a toucan flies over and lands on his shoulder, "Uh huh. Uh huh. I understand you. Of course, they can come." Several animals come out to join them and both Mirabel and her grandmother let out sighs of relief and then she announces, "We have a new gift."
There is cheering and a party begins and soon, Mirabel is watching, sorta stepping back to let Antonio have his big night. She watches as their grandmother bends down and tells him that she knew he could do it and that his gift is just as special, and he is. She finds herself thinking, 'But he didn't do anything, just touched a doorknob.' She feels anger, at hearing her grandmother say that, because it is implying that the reason that she didn't get a gift was because of her and not just the magic deciding not to give her one.
"It is a great night, a perfect night, picture, we need a picture." Alma says suddenly and then the picture is taken before Mirabel can join in.
"Don't be upset or mad at all, don't feel regret or sad at all. Hey, I'm still part of the family Madrigal, I am fine, I'm totally fine, I will stand on the side as you shine. I'm not fine. I'm not fine. I can't move mountains, I can't make flowers bloom, I can't take another night of pity from Isabella and Luisa in their room while waiting on a miracle. I can't heal what's broken or control the morning rain or hurricane. Can't keep down the only slightly hidden pain, waiting on a miracle. Always following along, always wanting more, like I'm still at that door, longing to shine, like all of you shine."
Isabela looks over after the picture was taken and begins to speak, "His gift is the coolest isn't it Mirabel?" She then notices that she is not there and looks around the family and begins to realize that Mirabel wasn't in the picture with them, "Mirabel?" She begins to walk, "I should have been watching out, I should have notice where you were, while everyone celebrated, I should have known, you'd want more. Why weren't you apart of this, why weren't standing there? Why can't you realize that you gave Antonio the strength to get there?" She begins to walk out of the room
"All I need is a chance. All I know is I can't stay on the side. Open your eyes. Open your eyes." "All I need is to say, all I need is for you to see, there ain't no me if they aren't no you, how can you not be a miracle when you see me." "I would move mountains" "For you." "Make new trees and flowers grow. Someone please let me know where do I go, I am waiting on a miracle. I would heal what's broken, show this family something new." "I would give you my gift if I could, knowing you wouldn't limit yourself as I have, you'd make new things and show us all what you can do. Why can't you see that you are the miracle?"
"Oh, I'm ready, I've patient, steadfast, and steady. Bless me now as you blessed all those years ago." Isabela sees her at last and joins in, "See, she's ready. She's been strong, supportive, and steady. Bless her now as you blessed me 15 years ago, when you gave me my baby sister."
"Am I/ Is she, too late for a miracle?"
All of a sudden, what appears to be like a piece of a pot from a plant has fallen and both Mirabel and Isabela cautiously approach it and Mirabel kneels down and picks it up, only to cut her hand as a piece broke off, "Oww."
Isabela quickly grabs Mirabel's hand and starts to examine the cut on it, "Mirabel, you got to be more careful baby sis."
Mirabel notices the floor begins to shake, "Casita?" She asks it, as she is able to communicate with the house unlike any other except for their grandmother.
The cracks begin to form and travel and the two sisters quickly follow the cracks, wondering what is going on and they frown, worried, scared to death even, they watch as the cracks form and travel across the floor, along the wall, behind their abeulo Prado picture, along the roof and walls and the doors that glow begin to blink. They watch as the cracks travel along the wall up to the candle and the candle begins to flicker as if it could go out.
Isabela, for a second, feel a sense of hope, beneath her gift, which she feels most of the time is more of a curse, because she is forced to be perfect.
Mirabel feels a sense of fear, because she knows that her grandmother will find a way to blame her for this. She begins to run to tell the others, to warn them, while Isabela remains out by the candle.
Isabela whispers, "Come on, go out forever, disappear, free me from this cursed perfect life that has been thrust on me. I want to be able to marry for love, not to make this family happy." She sighs sadly however as the cracks begin to disappear and the candle goes back to burning brightly. She sees Mirabel down below, trying to tell everyone what happened and then their grandmother brush it off and they go back to celebrating, she scoffs at the fact that their grandmother believes that Mirabel is just making it up, she watches as their mom takes Mirabel to the kitchen to talk to her and to also heal her cut hand. Her mom will come from a well meaning place, but will not necessarily believe her either, or rather, she'd believe that she believed that what she saw was real. She walks down to the kitchen and watches and listens, "I healed your hand with my love for my daughter, with her wonderful brain, big heart, cool glasses." She smiles lightly, their mother does love them all.
Mirabel pushes back against their mother's affection, "I know what I saw."
Julietta looks at her little girl, "Sweetie, my brother Bruno lost his way in this family, I wouldn't want the same to happen to you."
Isabela speaks up, "That is because everyone treated Tio Bruno like a curse, when in reality, his vision was either a result of what would happen naturally or a warning that if one doesn't choose to change things that they would happen. It was easier for people to let things happen than it was to change what caused them to happen and then blame Tio Bruno. Even Abuela and Tia Pepa feel that way about Tio Bruno."
Julietta looks at her daughter, "Isa, when your Tio Bruno disappeared, your Tia Pepa was inconsolable for weeks. She loves him, your Abuela love him. I love him, we all love him. Pepa has just convinced herself that she hates him because it is easier than crying everyday over him, but if he came back tomorrow and we both ran over to hug him, Pepa would get there before I would, no matter if we were the same distance or if I was faster, she would get there first."
Mirabel looks at Isa, "Sis, tell mom what you saw."
Isabela sighs, "Mirabel was telling the truth, and you know what, I wish that it did go out. I wish the magic would disappear and if it is dying, I'd shake the hand of whoever is causing it and if somehow Mirabel is the cause of it, I'd hug her for it."
Julietta looks at her, "Sweetie, I know life in this family isn't easy and that having these gifts can be taxing on you and everything, remember, my magical gift is widely used too, I know how it feels to someday be overwhelmed, but…"
Isabela feels her frustration boil over, "But you got to marry for love!" She looks down, because Mirabel is always with her, she doesn't always try to deny who she is deep down, below the surface, so she lets her true feelings out, maybe sometimes more than she should because of everything that is going on.
Julietta frowns, "What do you mean marry for love sweetie?"
Isabela sighs, "I don't love Marino, okay? Yes, he is a nice man, and he would treat me well, however, I don't love him. I don't have feelings for him. Not like that, if anything, I can feel a form of friendship for him at most."
Julietta looks at her two girls, "Okay, both of you go on to bed, I will begin to work on fixing things with your grandmother tomorrow. We can fix this, as long as we are honest with each other." She goes over and hugs them both, "I love you, and Isa, I am so proud that you've stood by your sister so much all these years."
Isabela hugs her mom back, "She stood by me, I wouldn't be brave enough to admit the truth if not for her, I wouldn't allow myself to feel what I feel if she didn't help me and stand by me and let me be real."
After that, Mirabel and Isabela both begin to head toward Mirabel's room, this time, Isabela just wants a taste of normal and Isabela wraps her arms around Mirabel and thinks to herself, 'I stand by you, no matter what, my baby sister, my little miracle.'
