BABE.
His phone beeped again. I grit my teeth and watched him walk into the kitchen with an empty cup. I glanced over. Melissa Tiffany, whoever this woman was she has been texting him all day. I've had enough.
"I'm done." I decided, pushing myself off the couch and into our shared bedroom. I grabbed my suitcase from under the bed.
"What did you say, babe?" Troy asked, walking in the room.
"I said I'm done." I snapped. "I'm going to Kelsi's. I'll be back for the rest of my shit tomorrow."
"You're done with what?"
"With you! You're little groupies will be so happy." I pushed past him to grab some clothes out of the dresser behind him. "They wanted me out of the picture since I stepped in."
"What?" His feigned confusion was only fueling my fire. "Come on, babe."
"Don't you dare babe me, Bolton." I hissed at my boyfriend of three years. "When we started talking, I told you that if you wanted out just tell me. I am not going to be made a fool."
"What the hell are you even talking about?" His brows furrowed in frustration.
"Okay, let's talk about that bitch Sharpay telling your whole office that you guys kissed. Two, the fact that whoever Melissa Tiffany is has not stopped texting you all day. Three, the last four out of five days you've snuck off somewhere or are always on your phone." I could feel my emotions bubbling up. I closed my eyes trying to steady myself. "I am not a jealous person. I am not trying to be a crazy girlfriend. I love you, Troy and if you don't want to be with me then stop dragging me along."
His jaw opened then shut. "Sharpay is a psychopath that I helped once with the copier and she has never left me alone since." His face softened. "I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you."
"Yeah, right, Troy."
"What do you want me to do? You want me to quit my job? You want me to get a new number? I can't control other people, Gabriella. Have I ever done anything in our whole relationship to make you think that you're not the only person that matters to me?!"
"It doesn't matter! How you're acting now just proves my point!"
"That doesn't make any sense-" he cut himself off, setting down the cup of water he was holding. "Look, I'll transfer to the Santa Fe office. I'll take the two and a half hour train there and back every day and get to see you for two minutes before we go to bed. I'm turning my phone off and putting it away. I'll be at your beck and call today and every weekend for the rest of our lives." I started feeling guilty as he showed his phone turn being thrown into a drawer by his side of the bed. He got down on his knees. "What else do you want from me, master?" He asked with noted irritation on his face.
"Go to hell." I snapped, grabbing my purse and keys. I pushed past him to walk out the front door.
"No!" I felt two arms wrap around my waist. "No, babe. You do not get to walk away when you started this fight. We're going to finish it."
"You don't get to tell me what to do." I hissed, pushing him away.
He let me go. "Please just stop." He put his hand on the front door. "I'm sorry I've been distracted and I've been making you feel like you're crazy and that I don't love you. I love you more than you can possibly imagine." His blue eyes stared at me hard before they softened. "If you need time, take it."
I closed my eyes, letting out a sigh. "I'll be back later."
His jaw tensed. "See you later." He pushed off the door and walked back to the bedroom.
I flinched as he slammed our bedroom door. I fought the urge to go into the bedroom and walked out the door. I felt the tears well up as I climbed in the car. I tried to wipe the tears as quickly as they fell. I started my car and drove to Kelsi's.
I was so thankful that she was home and always there for me when I needed her. I parked on the street in front of her and Jason's. I ran to the door and let out a shaky breath before I knocked. "Come in!" I opened the door to see Kelsi on the phone. "Yeah, gotta go." She hung up and put her phone down on the counter.
"I'm going crazy."
Kelsi frowned slightly. "Do we need liquor?"
I sighed. "That will only make it worse." I rubbed my forehead before I flopped down on her couch. "I just lost it... I never lose it!"
"Love, you are working full time, an online grad student, raising a man child- you're stressed."
"He's not a man child." I said with a small laugh.
"Look, we all know I'm not Troy Bolton's biggest fan. He's annoying and cocky and I almost had a stroke when you told me you were dating him senior year at U of A. I know I'm totally going to put my foot in my mouth but he loves you."
"Yeah, he loves me and the crazy bitch at his office and all the girls who don't leave him alone. One of them texted him twenty three times today. I counted. He replied to each one of them! It's only noon!"
Kelsi sighed. "Take a deep breath." I let out a shaky one, trying to repress my emotions. "Good…"
"You're so lucky. You have Jason, who loves you like the goddess you are. He wants to marry you; you're planning a life together."
"Do you remember the week before he proposed? Jason went AWOL."
"Yeah… Why did he do that? You almost killed him."
Kelsi shrugged. "I almost did. He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for me. He didn't even tell you because you would have told me."
"What?! No I wouldn't have!"
"You definitely would have, but its okay." I huffed and she cracked a smile. "Look, all I know is that he loves you. Gabriella, only you. He, I'm sure is very hurt and confused right now. I think you should work it out with him and then we can drink okay?"
I frowned. "You're always on my side. Why are you on his side?" Kelsi glanced away. "Was Troy the one you were talking to when I walked in?"
"He just wanted to make sure you were okay."
I groaned in frustration. I put one of her throw pillows over my face and slid back on the couch. Why were relationships so hard? Why was I feeling so jealous all of a sudden? Why did the thought of losing him hurt so deeply?
"You know what? Let's do something mind numbing. Let's get manicures and then we can go to Taco Bell or something. My treat."
I lifted the pillow off my face. "Okay. Taco Bell sounds nice."
She reached her hands out to help me up. I grabbed my purse and we walked to her car. I zoned out as we drove to the salon. I listened to Kelsi talk about school and her kids and Jason the whole ride there. She was a middle school band teacher. She loved music and surprisingly teenagers. The combo was a perfect fit.
I got serviced on the opposite side of the salon to Kelsi so I took the opportunity to turn my brain off. I chose a nice cool blue gel color for my nails for winter that was fast approaching.
Kelsi paid for our nails and I was more than ready to go home and lay in my bed. I turned down Taco Bell and we headed back to Kelsi's. I hopped in my car after a quick hug and drove back to my apartment.
I opened the door to see Troy sitting at the table staring at the wall. I closed the door softly behind me. He caught me when I walked past him. "Troy…"
"Babe, I know you don't want to talk but I need to ask you three things and I'll leave you be."
I shifted as he released me from his soft grasp. "Okay."
"Do you still want to be with me or am I going to wake up to an empty bed tomorrow?"
His eyes were so dark with emotion; it made me swallow the lump in my throat. "I want to be with you. I wouldn't be this upset all day if I didn't."
"Do you trust me?" I tilted my head, watching him. "I'm only asking because I want to take you to dinner and I don't want to fight with you. I want to make up for my lack of attention and get a chance to explain myself."
"I don't really want to go out tonight. I'd rather just stay in and cry."
"On any other day, I would be all for that. Just please, babe, trust me. Let me take you out."
I sighed, looking away from him. "What time do I have to be ready?"
"6:15. Nothing too fancy but not too casual, okay?"
I simply nodded and checked the time. It was almost 2 and I had two hours to nap before I had to start getting ready. I walked in the bedroom and closed the door behind me. I climbed in my bed and slid under the covers.
I stared at the ceiling as I heard him shuffle around. I couldn't help it but I rolled over and opened his bedside drawer softly. His phone was still there and it was shut off. I felt a little better. I took a deep breath and got up. My mind wouldn't stop racing and I couldn't even lie in bed peacefully.
I anxiously ripped the bedding off of the bed. I took the pillow cases off the pillows and set them on my dresser. I went into the hall closet and grabbed a fresh set of sheets. Troy looked at me curiously as I walked by him. I started with the fitted sheet, making sure it was tightly tucked under the mattress. I grabbed a flat sheet, waving over the bed until it lay in the perfect position. I took my time to smooth down the sheet and tucking it tightly under the mattress.
"Do you want me to take this?"
Troy's voice startled me, causing me to flinch. "I can take care of it." I managed to say. He looked at me before he nodded and went back into the living room.
I let out a breath before I smoothed down the sheet again. "I found the quilt that you've been looking for. I remember when J and Kels came over a couple months ago you let them use it. I offered to do laundry and I didn't put it back in the spot you normally keep it. It was in the back of the closet and it kind of had a musty smell so I washed it again." He brought the white quilt in and put it next to the pillow cases. "I'm sorry I didn't put it back where you like to keep them."
I swallowed thickly as he passed by me again. "Thank you for finding it." I picked up the quilt and ran my fingers along it. It was a simple white quilt but I loved it. It was the first one we bought together when we moved in two and a half years ago. I covered the sheet with it just before putting a second flat sheet over it.
I thought I was neurotic for making the bed so particularly but Troy always loved it. He said it made it feel like he was sleeping at a hotel. He wanted me to teach him my ways so he could do it perfectly for me. He usually makes his side of the bed every morning unless he is late.
I moved on to the pillows, covering them in cases and placing them in a specific order on the bed. Troy only had one but I had three so I evened it out and he would hand over my third pillow every night. I put the little decor pillow in the middle and stared at the bed.
My phone rang loudly from my purse. I grabbed it and it was Troy's dad. I answered it before it stopped ringing. "Hello?"
"Hey, Gabs. Sorry to bug, I was trying to call Troy but his phone is off, can I chat with him?"
"Um, of course, Jack… let me grab him." I walked over to Troy who was still sitting at the table, staring at the wall. "It's your dad…" I held the phone out for him. He looked from the phone to me before he took it from my hand.
"Hey, Dad…. yeah, I know my phones off." Troy sighed. "People kept bothering me so I turned it off… well you got a hold of me, didn't you?!" Troy snapped.
I walked away to grab the dirty sheets and put it in the washing machine. I walked back towards the living room and Troy was walking over to me. He handed me my phone. "Thank you… is everything okay?"
"Yeah, they're fine. He had his appointment yesterday about his hip and he's freaking out because he thinks he is already old and decrepit." He looked at the phone in my hand. "I think he was just freaked out because my phone was off."
"You can turn it back on."
His eyes shot to me. "And have you more pissed off at me? I don't think so." I blinked at him. "I bought something for you the other day. You don't have to wear them but I thought you'd like it."
He walked away and walked back with a small blue Tiffany's box. I frowned as he placed it in my hand. "Troy? What's this?"
"Open it."
I looked at him and he just gave me a small smile. I opened the box. It was earrings. I shut the box quickly. "Are you joking?"
"Yeah, I'm joking. Give them back so I can return them to the store."
I narrowed my eyes at him which caused his smile to grow. Even when I'm pissed off, he still made me want to kiss him endlessly. "What? Why would you buy me these?"
"Babe, open the box and look at them."
"I saw them."
"They're not going anywhere. They're yours forever." I didn't move and he sighed. He reached his hand out. "Okay then, Give me the box."
I pulled it close to me, protectively. "No, they're mine."
He chuckled. "Then look." I opened the box again. Two beautiful aquamarine gems were at the end of the studs. They were breathtaking. "I saw these in the darker blue… the tanzanite. I knew this was your favorite color, so I wanted to get you your favorite color."
"They're beautiful, Troy." I said honestly. I looked at the stones and how they sparkled perfectly in the box. "This isn't my favorite color… but it's pretty close."
He frowned. "Really? Is it the darker blue? I don't think it was turquoise."
I gave him a small smile. "I don't think they make gemstones in my favorite color. Take this aquamarine and add a little light gray and it would be the perfect color." He looked confused as he looked down at the gems. "That's the color of your eyes."
His head shot up to look at me. "What?"
"That's my favorite color. Blue-ish Gray, the color of your eyes." His hand reached out to stroke my face gently. "I'm sorry for being so crazy. I don't deserve these."
"Babe, you deserve these and so much more that I can't wait to give you. I can't apologize enough to convey how sorry I am for not being present lately." He licked his lips and sighed. "You work so hard at school and at work and you still find time to listen to me bitch about work and cook me dinner most of the time. This is just a small token of my appreciation that I haven't been showing you."
"I'm sorry, too." I said softly, taking a step closer to him to lean my forehead against his. "I didn't mean to just snap like that and then leave… it wasn't fair to you. I love you."
He pressed his lips against my forehead. "I love you more, babe and I'm sorry that my actions haven't been showing that."
I put the earrings down before I wrapped my arms around him. "I know you love me… it's just the thought of you deciding to love someone else just kills me. I don't think I could handle it."
"You have my whole heart." Troy promised. His hands snaked around my waist. His face burrowed into my neck. He pressed a soft kiss to my neck before he stood up. He leaned down to kiss my lips slowly. I hummed against his mouth before pulling away slowly. Troy stroked my cheek with his thumb gently.
"Where are we going for dinner?"
He chuckled. "The new restaurant by the mall. Is that okay? It's Italian."
"That sounds amazing. I love pasta."
"I know you do, babe." He held me close to him. "Let's get ready for dinner. Do you want to shower with me? Save our planet, conserve some water."
I cracked a smile. "I think we waste just as much water together because the showers are extra long." I leaned up to press a quick kiss to his mouth. He pulled me just a little closer to him.
"We'll be quick."
I hummed in disbelief. He picked me up anyway and walked us to the bathroom. The shower was surprisingly quick despite me getting a little too caught in the moment.
I took my time to towel dry. I picked out something nice to wear before I changed. I started blow drying my curls as I worked some product in them. I put on light makeup before putting my new earrings in my ear. I studied the blue box and fought myself to not Google how much something like this cost.
"Troy…"
"Yes, babe?" He asked, still in his towel. He walked in the room and over to the closet.
"How much did this cost?"
He started laughing. "Babe, you know I'm not going to tell you."
"You only say that when you spend a ridiculous amount of money."
He turned to look at me and smiled. "Wow, they look absolutely beautiful on you." I made a face at him and he chuckled again. "All I'm going to say for now is that I got a good deal on them."
I smirked at him. "You know I can always just Google them and get an estimated price."
He narrowed his eyes at me. "Don't you dare."
"I can."
"Gabriella." He started to walk toward me.
"Just tell me."
He chuckled, leaning down to plant a firm kiss on my lips. "You're so fucking stubborn." I frowned. "It's one of my favorite things about you."
"Apparently I can't keep a secret either." He smiled and I huffed.
"Babe, when you get excited you have to tell the whole world. Another one of my favorite things about you." He stroked my face with his thumbs. "Let's finish getting ready."
He pulled away and winked before he dropped his towel. I watched him get dressed with items he laid out on the bed. I'd never seen Troy so in his head before. His lips would twitch as he mouthed something to himself. I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.
He finally caught me looking at him. "Get dressed, babe."
"Okay, I'm going." I got up and searched through my closet for something nice to wear. I pulled out a Navy blue dress and zipped it up my body. I stepped out to look in the mirror. I hoped I didn't look too business casual.
"Wow."
"Hm?" I hummed to look at Troy. He was glancing over me. "What?"
"Nothing… you look wow."
I frowned. "Does it look like I'm going to work? Or like a bridesmaid? Because if it does I want to change."
"Don't! It's perfect." He gave me a half smile. "I just hope I look half as good as you do."
"Please. All eyes are on you wherever we go, Troy."
He laughed out loud. "You realize that's only because I'm standing next to you."
"Yeah, right."
He walked back over to me with a serious look on his face. "You are the most beautiful person in the room, in every room we stand in. And it's not just because you have the body of a temptress." He suddenly chuckled. "You know how you and Kels always talk about horoscopes and auras and crystals and all that other hippie dippy shit. Your- I can't believe I'm saying this- your energy just brightens the room babe."
"I knew you listened to us." I couldn't help but laugh. He was my favorite person in the whole world. I pressed the palm of my hand to his chest. "You have the same energy. Even Kelsi admits it's powerful, especially together."
He placed his hand on mine and pulled it up to my lips. He kissed my knuckles gently. "I love you."
My heart warmed. I didn't even want to go out anymore. I just wanted to talk to him. I wanted to dedicate more time to him because I am my best self when I'm with him. Well- except for this morning when I was a jealous disaster.
I bit my bottom lip. "The sooner we leave the sooner we come back…" I trailed off suggestively.
He grinned. "I'll finish getting ready."
By the time I finished putting on my shoes, he was dressed and ready to go. He patted his jacket pockets for his keys and wallet. His eyes widened just before he rushed into his closet. I gave myself a once over before walking into the living room for my purse essentials.
"Ready to go, babe?" He asked, messing with his hair again as he walked into the room.
"Yup." I picked up a small clutch and stuck my essentials in it. I put it around my body and walked over to him.
He slid his fingers between mine before he led me out the door. He opened the door to his truck for me and helped me inside. He walked around to the driver's side and climbed in himself. The truck roared to life just before he backed out of one of our assigned spaces.
"After dinner, can we go to our spot?"
I turned to look at him. "Our spot?" I tried to rack my brain to think of the exact place he was thinking of. "The hot air balloon field?"
He grinned. "Yup."
"The last time we tried to go, we almost got arrested for trespassing, Troy."
He chuckled. "It will be different this time, I promise"
"Your laugh says the complete opposite."
"Please?"
I felt exhausted from the day but I would go anywhere with him. "Okay… as long as we're in bed by 10."
"Deal."
We pulled up to the restaurant, climbing out of the truck. I wrapped my hand around his elbow and followed him into the nice restaurant. The food smelled amazing and the atmosphere was perfect for a nice dinner.
He kissed my cheek as he pulled out my chair. I took a seat and flipped through the menu. I asked for water when the waiter took our drink order and skimmed through the menu again. I decided on a seafood pasta dish and sipped on my water while Troy scanned the menu.
"You'll probably like the picatta risotto." I suggested.
"You're probably right. I was going to get meatballs."
A small smile crept on my face. "Of course you were and six sides of garlic bread."
He chuckled lightly. "Well how else am I going to make a meatball sandwich?" The smile on my face seemed to fade as I thought about work. "What's on your mind, babe?"
I licked my lips. "I just… after today, I'm going to cut my hours at work. Having money is nice but I feel like time is more important. I'll have more time to study and more time to be with you. Like… really be with you and talk and not just about work or school."
"If that's what you want to do babe, I'm more than happy to pick up more of the slack around our finances. I want a better position at work and eventually buy a house for us to grow in."
"You still think about our future after I went all crazy girlfriend on you today."
He reached over for my hand. "It's all I thought about all day today… it's what I think about most days. What our kids are going to look like… if they're going to have your curly brown hair and my blue eyes. If they're going to be wild like me or calm like you." Troy squeezed my fingers. "It's weird because I've never thought about this with anyone but it's all I think about with you. The good, the bad, the jealous, the annoying, the nights when our kids all get the flu at the same time and our house is just a revolving door of poop, vomit, Tylenol, and laundry."
"Baby, that's disgusting." My face scrunched in disgust.
"Isn't it sick that I can't wait for all of it? And I get to do it with you."
"I love that you think about our future and our cute little fat future babies. I'm sorry for being so insecure about us. It really wasn't warranted and I feel like a raging bitch."
"I appreciate your apology. I forgive you and I would be the same exact way. I know there will be one day where one guy has the balls to get too close to you and I will be all of the emotions."
The waiter returned and took our order. We chatted for a while about his dad and his health. We planned to go see him tomorrow. Dinner was delicious and I ate every bit of it not quite realizing how hungry I actually was.
We got back into the truck and drove out to the little field where they fly hot air balloons. We drove out here on our first date and he asked me to be his girlfriend laying out here under the stars. I've never said yes to anything so fast.
He reached back and pulled out a blanket as we parked. We climbed out and went to the middle of the field. "You cold, babe?"
"Only a little." He handed me the blanket while he took his jacket off. I laid out the blanket nicely for us to sit. He handed over his jacket. "Thanks baby."
We took a seat and I looked up at the stars. It really wasn't cold but the slight breeze gave me goose bumps. I shrugged his warm jacket on and wrapped it around me.
"Today has been crazy." He said after a moment.
"I ruined one of the only days where we can spend the whole day together."
"Today isn't ruined, babe." He chuckled lightly. "We're going to remember this day forever."
I made a face to myself. "Sure."
We didn't talk for a moment. We just looked up at the sky. The quiet was nice; the distant sound of tires on gravel was an added bonus. Tory sighed. "I can't believe we're just tiny specs in the universe."
"It's wild, isn't it?"
He hummed quietly in response. He sat up and looked around before reaching in his pocket. "I wanna show you something."
"What is it?" I asked, sitting up.
"I got you something else." I frowned. "I know you might think I'm going overboard with the gifts but this isn't just any old gift."
"No?"
"Nope." He let out a shaking breath. "Wow, I didn't know I'd be this nervous." He shifted to his knees. "I still can't believe fate let us be the only two seniors in business ethics and it sat you right next to me. You changed the world I thought I had figured out. I thought I was just stuck being the basketball douche forever."
A small smile formed on my face. I remember vividly Kelsi calling him that on multiple occasions. "You weren't a douche."
"Not after I met you, babe." He reached over for my hand. "You always saw through all the bullshit and you let me kiss you on our first date. I promised to let you know if I wanted out but that, being without you, is the last thing I want to do."
I sat up so I could kiss his lips gently. "I love you, Troy. You never have to be without me."
He pushed my hair behind my ear with his finger. "I am so happy to hear you say that. I can't promise I won't fuck up sometimes but I want to be the best man I can possibly be for you, babe." He pulled a small blue box from his pocket and opened it with shaking hands. He pulled a smaller box out and lifted the lid to reveal a ring. The ring got blurry as my eyes welled up with tears. "Babe, I love you and I can't wait to plan our lives together. Will-"
"Yes!" I cut him off with a wide grin.
"-you marry me?" His laugh made my heart beat faster. "You didn't even let me finish!"
"I don't care! The answer is yes." I held out my hand and he lifted the ring from the box and slid it on my finger.
He leaned down to kiss my lips gently. "Do you like it?"
"Baby, I love it. You could have given me a high-five and I would have agreed to marry you." I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed his mouth slowly. "I have to call my mom. I have to call your mom. I have to call Kelsi."
"No you don't." I heard my best friend say from behind me.
I gasped, moving to stand up. "Troy! Kelsi, you sneaky bitch!" Kelsi and Jason walked out from behind Troy's truck.
"We got some awesome pictures of you as the sun set but most of the proposal is in night vision." Kelsi said with a wide grin.
"We're both getting married!" I squealed excitedly, rushing over to hug my best friend.
"Thank you guys, again for doing this." Troy said, walking over to them behind me.
"Don't say I've never done anything nice for you Bolton." Kelsi joked wrapping her arms around me. I squeezed her tightly before moving on to Jason.
"Congrats Gabs."
"Thank you!" I squeezed him tightly before looking over at my man. He had his hand out to Kelsi. She slapped it down and gave him a hug. "Wow, I've never seen you get along before. I love it. I'm going to cry."
Kelsi laughed, pushing him away. "It happened and we're never going to talk about it again."
My future husband reached out to me and I put my hand in his. He pulled me gently, holding my waist as I stood in front of him. I leaned against him, standing on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
"On that note, we're out of here." Jason said with a laugh. "Come on, Kels."
"Have a good night, I'll call you tomorrow." Kelsi said, waving us off. She turned to walk away with Jason. His hand came down and slapped her ass playfully. I could hear her curse and giggle as she took his hand.
I felt my favorite set of lips touch my neck. "Are you ready to go home, babe?"
I felt my eyes tear up again. I couldn't believe I was engaged to the man of my dreams. "You really want to marry me after everything I put you through today?"
He smiled as he stroked my cheek. "I've never wanted anything more but to spend the rest of my life with you, Gabriella Montez." I leaned up to kiss his lips gently. He hummed as he pulled away. "Let's go home and go to bed."
"You're tired too?" I asked, reaching for his hand.
"Exhausted." I frowned. He kissed my hands and gave me a wink.
He let my hands go to pick up the blanket and shook it out. He folded it carefully and held it under his arm. He reached for my hand again. We walked the couple steps to the truck. He threw the blanket in the back and climbed in himself.
My seatbelt clicked into place before I rested my left hand on his thigh. "Damn, babe, that ring looks so good on you."
"It's so beautiful." I lifted my fingers to look at it again.
He started the truck and it roared to life. He shifted into drive and turned around to make his way out of the field. Once we got to the main road, his hand made his way to my thigh. My skin must have been cold; he rubbed it gently, warming it with his hand before turning the heater on.
He lifted my hand to his mouth and kissed my knuckles. We stopped at a red light and I turned to see him looking over at me. "What? Is my makeup running?"
"No, babe, you're perfect." He looked back at the light and continued driving, focusing on the road.
Troy played with my fingers as he drove, turning into our apartment complex. He parked and turned to look at me again. "I want to tell you about Melissa." Melissa? Melissa who? I must have made a face. "No, no, it's not like that."
"Melissa, the girl texting you all morning?"
"Yes." He said softly. "I bought your ring and earrings from Tiffany's, the jeweler. She was my sales consultant."
I blinked at him. Melissa Tiffany, made sense. "Why was she texting you all morning?"
"I told her that I was planning on proposing yesterday but we kind of fell asleep at 8:30 last night. She wanted to see how it went. I told her it didn't happen. She asked if I had a backup plan. I told her I didn't. She told me about the restaurant. I thought it would be a nice touch but I didn't want to put you on the spot in public with people around. Then you started getting mad at me. And I told her you were pissed off. Then she sent me something else but I didn't read it because you left."
My heart sank to my stomach. I felt like such a bitch. I rubbed my forehead. "God Troy. I'm the worst. Are you sure you want to marry me?"
He chuckled. "You're not the worst. You didn't know. I wanted to surprise you. I love you and like I told you before, I have never been more sure of anything in my life."
I pouted at him. He kissed my forehead. "I'm sorry."
"I know you are babe. Let's go get in bed."
"You don't have to tell me twice." I unbuckled and slid out of the truck. It was really starting to get cold now. I wrapped myself tighter in Troy's jacket. I climbed up the stairs quickly and waited by the door for Troy.
He locked the truck with a beep of his remote and found the house key as he climbed up the stairs. He opened the door and held it open for me. He shut the door behind him, locking it. I turned the thermostat on and went into Troy's closet to hang his jacket. I kicked off my shoes and put them in my closet. I grabbed a pair of leggings and a shirt before going into the bathroom to clean up the mess I made earlier.
After taking a minute to put my makeup back into place, I washed it off my face. I brushed my teeth and changed into comfy clothes. I threw my hair up into a bun as I walked out of the bathroom. I tossed my dress in the hamper before I folded back the covers of our bed and took my pillow back from his side.
Troy was already changed into a pair of shorts and was going through his phone. He put it on the charger across the room. "Ready for the lights off?"
"Yes, please." I climbed into bed. He switched the lights off and climbed in the bed. He stretched before he laid back. I turned to face him. I wiggled my way into his embrace, resting my head against his chest.
He slid his arm under me, kissing the top of my head. "Melissa said she can't wait to meet you."
"Would it be weird if I bought her a thank you gift?"
"I mean, she's just doing her job. I think she would appreciate it regardless." I hummed, kissing his chest. My finger stroked down his abdomen before settling on his hip. "Babe."
"Yeah?" I looked up at him to see him the best I could in the dark.
"Can you promise to tell me if I'm doing something that's bothering you? I don't ever want you to be that upset as you were today."
I bit my bottom lip. "I'm sorry that it got that far. It wasn't fair of me to think that you could read my mind and just know what's going on inside of it."
"I would never do something purposefully when I knew it upset you, Babe."
"I promise to work on being better at communicating my true feelings."
His thumb rubbed down my back. "And I promise to put my phone down and make more time for us."
"I love you, Basketball Douche."
Troy laughed out loud, leaning over to lay me back and put his weight on top of me. He kissed my lips firmly. I held on to the back of his head to keep his lips on mine. I felt his grin as he pulled away. "I love you most, babe."
Don't forget to review! :)
