Caught Up
I twirled my keys around my finger as I walked up to her doorstep. Gabriella and I have been dating for a while now. She was the most beautiful girl at East High and I was completely lucky. Her dad was the mayor of Albuquerque which was a little intimidating. Most of the guys at my school were too afraid to even talk to her because of it. Since we got paired up in Drama class at the beginning of the year, we've been inseparable.
I just washed my old truck and we were taking a drive tonight. She had a midnight curfew since it was Friday but my parents didn't care when I got home. My dad stays up on the weekends watching old football games on TV. He does photography so he makes his own schedule. My mom, on the other hand, is a lawyer and a good one. Sometimes I wonder how they ever got married, because they are so different. It doesn't matter, as long as they're happy.
I felt a bit anxious as I always do, walking to Gabriella's doorstep to pick her up. I'm not that kind of guy that would make her rush out to me. I want to convey myself as a gentleman, especially to Mayor Montez. I pressed the doorbell and shoved my hands in my pockets, nervously.
"Troy!" Mrs. Montez greeted. "You look very handsome, I love your new haircut."
I let out a breath of relief. Gabriella's mom opened the door, thank god. Her mom loved me, her dad- he's still skeptical. "Thank you, Mrs. Montez. I think your new hair color makes your skin glow."
Mrs. Montez smiled widely. "Thank you, Troy. You're too sweet. Carlos hasn't even noticed I colored my hair."
"The mayor is a busy man. I'm sure he admires your beauty every day."
I saw Gabriella roll her eyes from behind her mother. She shrugged on her jacket. "Stop flirting with my mom, Bolton."
I grinned at the sight of my girl. "You know you're the only Montez woman I have my sights on." I winked at her mom as Gabriella made her way over to me. "Hello, beautiful." I leaned over, kissing her cheek.
She pouted her lips in disappointment. "I'll be back later, Ma. Are you sure you'll be okay by yourself? We could wait with you until dad gets home."
Mrs. Montez smiled. "It's alright, baby. He should be home any minute. I think that's him right there. Thanks for offering. I love you, be safe."
"She's in good hands, Mrs. Montez." I said putting my hands on Gabi's shoulders.
"Love you too mom." I released Gabi so she could kiss her mom goodnight.
I turned when I heard footsteps approach. "Ah, Mr. Bolton." Mayor Montez said when he approached.
"Hello, Mr. Montez. How was your day?" I asked, trying not to cringe.
The Mayor loosened his tie. "Busy, but that's usual. Where are you two headed?"
I looked over at Gabriella and she looked over at me. We didn't know what the night had in store for us. "I don't know, Dad. We don't really have anything planned."
Mr. Montez sighed. "Well, be home by midnight."
"Of course." Gabriella confirmed. "I have my keys and my phone is fully charged."
"That's my girl. Call me if you need me to come pick you up." Mr. Montez said walking past me and greeting his wife with a kiss on the lips.
Gabriella rolled her eyes from beside me. "Let's go Troy."
"Goodnight, Ella, Mr. Bolton."
"Goodnight." I called, giving them a wave as we walked down the stepping stones to my truck parked on the curb.
I opened the door for Gabriella and helped her hop in. After closing the door and walking around, I got in myself. "They're so annoying." Gabriella said with a sigh.
"They're not that bad. Your mom is awesome." I grinned, starting the truck.
She laughed causing a grin to overcome my face. Her laugh was one of my favorite sounds. "You have a crush on my mom."
"It's not my fault she's hot." I shrugged, putting my seatbelt on.
"Gross, Troy." Gabriella punched my shoulder. "I came out of her."
"I'd be a good step dad."
"Just drive before I punch you." Gabriella said, rolling her eyes at me.
I chuckled, putting the truck into gear. "Where do you want to go?"
She sighed. "I don't know. I'm not really hungry and I don't want to sit through a movie." I glanced over at her as she played with her hair. "There's nothing really to do in this boring town."
"We can just find somewhere to sit and talk?" I suggested.
"That sounds good. We can watch the airplanes take off!" Gabriella said excitedly, sitting up. "Oh, I know exactly where to go."
"Sounds good to me. Just tell me where to go." I said as I pulled up to a stop light.
"Go like you're going to the airport and I'll lead you from there." She grinned excitedly, scooting over towards me. She moved her arm under mine, kicking her feet to the side of the bench seat like she always does. Her fingertips grazed my palm and danced around mine before connecting our hands.
I drove like this the twenty minutes it took to get to the airport. I was excited to just have a low key night, and spend quality time with my girl. She looked around and pointed to the right. "Turn right here?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's a right then keep going for a little while." She instructed me.
I followed her directions to a dark road. "Where are you taking me, babe?" I asked, looking around.
"Don't worry about it." She said with a kiss that rang in my ear. "Turn left up here."
"Alright." I said, going with it. We zoomed along the road, past a fence into an open field. "I don't think we're supposed to be here, Gabi. I'm pretty sure there was a no trespassing sign."
"Don't worry about it, Bolton. Just park." She told me.
I shook my head, straightening out my truck before coming to a stop. I put the truck in park and turned off the lights. She grinned excitedly and popped open the door. I shook my head and got out, stepping into the warm night. Gabriella was already pulling down the tailgate and hopping up to take a seat.
"What's gotten into you? Did you have three cups of coffee again?" I asked, walking over to her. I stood in between her legs, placing my hands on her thighs.
She shook her head with a smile. "No, I'm just really happy. I'm happy to be here with you, Bolton. It's almost graduation then after that we'll be going off to college. I'm really happy to have these moments with you before we go off to college."
"You're my best friend." I admitted to her. "I know I have the guys but we talk and we hang out and I feel that you know more about me in the year that we hung out then my best friend from kindergarten knows about me."
She wrapped her arms around my neck. "You're my best friend too, Bolton. I never thought you'd get me through senior year." She played with the hair on the back of my neck. "I'm glad you did. I kind of like you, Bolton."
I laughed. "I kind of like you too, Montez." I leaned in to meet her lips with the greeting kiss she expected on her porch. My hands caress her thighs before moving towards her butt. I pulled her close to me, deepening the kiss.
She pulled away, putting her hand on my chest. "Look!" I hopped onto the tailgate, sitting next to her as she pointed to the airplane taking off nearby. "Isn't it amazing?"
"It is." I agreed. "I love airplanes."
"You should be a pilot." She said with a grin. "You'd look very cute in the uniform."
"You say I look cute in everything."
"It's true. You look good in everything. It's like you're not even human, you look good all the time." She said, looking over at me.
I smiled. "You look beautiful in everything."
"You just say that because I let you touch my boobs." She said, with a teasing smile. She pulled her knees up to her chest, getting comfortable.
"Not true." I said, laughing. "Touching your boobs is great, but you are honestly beautiful all of the time." My eyes gazed over her face. "Even when you aren't wearing make-up and you're curled up in sweatpants."
"You're too sweet, Bolton." She smiled, looking over at me. She stared at me for a minute before she sighed. "I can't believe you like me sometimes."
I looked at her as if she were crazy. "You can't believe that I like you? Are you kidding?" I asked. I knew she was serious but that was an incredulous statement. "Every guy at East High is infatuated with you, Gabriella Montez. They're just more afraid of your dad to do anything about it."
She sighed. "He drives me crazy, Troy."
"I know." I said, reaching over for her hand. "He only does what he does because he loves you. He probably doesn't want you to go to college. He wants you to be his little girl forever."
"I'm not little anymore. I'm going to move out and get married and have a family of my own eventually. He just needs to loosen the strings and back off. Do you know how bad I wish I could tell him that? I can't. There is no talking to him. He's the only one that is allowed to talk and it makes me want to rip my hair out." She ranted, grabbing my hand. "You're the only boyfriend that I've ever had and what is there to say about that? He scares away the pizza boy when we order in. It's ridiculous. I don't know why you put up with him."
"I only do it for you." I said honestly. "You're worth it, one hundred percent."
She smiled at me, leaning over to kiss my lips. "And that is why I'm your girlfriend, Bolton."
I laughed. "It has nothing to do with my good looks and the abs?"
"Those are a perk." She said with a teasing smile. I watched her slide off the tailgate. "I wish we brought the radio." She twirled around in the grass growing out of the earth.
"You can still dance." I said, watching her spin. She was so beautiful. Her long brown hair flew in the air, dropping down to her dark leather jacket once she stopped.
"I think you should dance with me." She said, grinning, reaching her hands out toward me.
"I'm fine where I am." I said, shaking my head.
She pouted. "Come on Bolton. You're going to have to dance with me at Prom. You better practice with me now."
"Hey, who said I was taking you to prom?" I asked as she pulled me off the tailgate.
Gabriella quirked her eyebrow at me. "If you're not taking your girlfriend, who are you taking?"
"Sharpay Evans is kind of cute." I joked with a straight face.
"If you like mean, bossy, rude, spoiled girls." Gabriella said sweetly.
"I do." I said with a laugh. "But I think if I ask the Mayor's daughter to Prom, I think I have a chance."
"She's too good for you." Gabriella grinned, wrapping her arms around my waist.
I pulled her close. "That is true." I looked at my girl and studied her brown eyes. There was another plane taking off overhead. The loud woosh of the airplane filled our ears along with the faint sound of sirens. Gabriella took her focus off me to look up at the airplane.
"I wonder where that one is headed." She asked quietly, playing with the back of my shirt.
"Could be anywhere." I said, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando, New York, London, Paris."
"I want to go to Sweden." She said randomly, looking up at me.
"I'm sure it's cold as shit." I said with a laugh. "But if you want to go, then I will be more than happy to freeze my balls off with you."
She laughed, shaking her head. "Thanks, you're so sweet."
I grinned, kissing her lips slowly. "I know." She released me to start spinning again and I took a seat back on the tailgate.
She stopped once she heard the whoop, whoop of the cop cars that pulled up to the truck. "Fuck." She muttered, looking back at me.
I stood up. "It's okay." I assured.
"Don't move." A police officer said, getting out of the first cop car that pulled up. "You're trespassing on private property."
"We were just watching the planes take off." I spoke up. "We didn't know we couldn't be out here, honestly."
"There was a clear no trespassing sign on the fence." The second officer said.
"Do you have any weapons on you?" The first officer asked.
"Weapons?" Gabriella spoke up. "He just told you we were watching airplanes. Can't two kids just have a calm night watching airplanes in the middle of a field? At least we're not doing drugs, or drinking. You know while you're here there are kids younger than we are that are getting into worse things? We are two innocent kids."
I smirked, leaning against the truck. I loved watching my girl get fired up. "What is your name, miss?"
"Gabriella, officer." She said with a sweet smile. "I go to East High, I'm the valedictorian. You can come watch my speech. We graduate in a couple weeks."
"It's true." I chipped in.
"If you just let us go, we'll be on our way and we will never come back." She said, sweetly.
"I would but you are trespassing. I'm going to have to take you both in." The first officer said.
"Take us in?" Gabriella said, shaking her head. I watched her nostrils flare as the fire started again. "Do you know who my father is? He can get you fired in two seconds. My father is the Mayor of Albuquerque. My father and I are very close. He will take action. He's the best mayor this town has had in fifty years!"
"Cuff the boy, Benson." The first officer said.
"I didn't do anything!" I said, looking over at the both of them.
"Just cooperate kid, it'll be easier for the both of us." Benson said. "Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
I sighed, turning around and placing my hands behind my back. "You can't arrest him! He didn't do anything!" Gabriella said, groaning in frustration. "Look, officer Coon, what can I do to smooth this all out?"
"Just cooperate Ms. Montez." Officer coon said, "Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
Gabriella shook her head and did as she was told. I was being guided into the first cop car. I turned my head to look for Gabriella. They were bringing her over to me, well the cop car I was sitting in. I shifted uncomfortably, these cuffs are on tight. I scoot over as they guided Gabriella in. She moved her feet inside and smile up at the officers. "Do you have a light? I'm dying for a cigarette."
I burst out laughing, shaking my head. Officer Coon huffed and shut the door briskly. "Well this sucks." I looked over at Gabriella. "Your dad is going to kill me." I sighed.
"No he is not." Gabriella shook her head. "He'll kill me first. It was my idea."
"I drove you here." I reasoned. "Your dad doesn't like me anyway."
"My dad doesn't like anybody. He's an ass." Gabriella laughed. "I love him though. I'm happy that I'm here with you."
"You don't regret this?" I asked, turning slightly so I could see her face.
"No way." She grinned widely. "How many people can say they got arrested with their boyfriends for trespassing? They're going to let us go. Do you regret this?"
"Not at all." I grinned. "You're my favorite human being, Gabriella Montez."
She kissed my lips slowly. "You're mine, Bolton."
"I won't get to see you unless we're at school." I said with a frown.
"I'll sneak out." She said with a shrug. "He can't keep me away."
"I'll come break into your house." I joked with a laugh. She leaned against me as I looked out the window. "What do you think they're saying?"
"Coon probably wants a donut." She laughed. "I'm real hungry, Benson. Let these kids go so we can get a cheese steak down at Monroe's." She deepened her voice to pretend to talk for Officer Coon. "A Cheesy double-triple will hit the spot."
I laughed. "We should get something sweet after this. I want a cookie."
"We should just make a run for it." She said with a shrug. "They're not even paying attention."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "You're crazy, Montez. They'll really take us to jail then. Your dad will murder me and shoot off my balls."
"No he won't. We can do it!" Gabriella's eyes beamed with excitement as she turned to grab the door handle with her cuffed hands. "Shit, this hurts."
I laughed as I watched her. "Baby, don't hurt yourself."
She sighed, leaning against me again. "I want to go to the snow."
"Like, where? Colorado?" I asked, wishing I could stroke her hair instead of just awkwardly leaning against each other.
"Sure, I've never been there. Have you?"
"Once, a couple years ago. My dad thought it would be a good idea to go up there for New Years. We got snowed in and I had to climb out of a window just to dig out our door."
Gabriella laughed. "That must have been cold."
"It was freezing. I think that's the year I got pneumonia."
"Poor baby." She pouted kissing my cheek.
"It's okay." I nuzzled my nose against her cheek causing her to giggle. "We should go back to my house unless we they let us go after 11. I'll have to speed to your house then."
"I think if that happens, you can park around the corner. You can climb up my balcony and sneak in so we can make out." She said, glancing down at my lips.
"I like that idea." I said with a small smirk.
She licked her lips then strained her neck to look at the clock in the car. "They sure are taking their sweet little time, aren't they?"
"It's okay. This is like, extreme dating." I laughed.
"Date with your hands behind your back." She said, wiggling to get more comfortable. "I'm going to have marks on my wrists when I'm done. I'm going to have to hide them from my dad. I think I have make up in my purse in the truck."
"You can put make up on me too."
Gabriella laughed. "Like full face make up?"
"No!" I said shaking my head. "Do you want your boyfriend to look like a drag queen?"
She giggled, biting her lip. "No, you'd make a very pretty girl though. Would you let me do that to you one day?"
"If you really wanted to." I said honestly. "You'd have to wipe it all off though."
She grinned. "Deal."
"If they'd hurry up, we could go get some dessert."
"Is food all you think about?" She asked, looking over at me.
I smiled at my girl. "Food, and you, of course."
"You think you're so smooth, Bolton."
" I am, and you love it." I stole a quick kiss.
"I do." She smiled at me.
"Okay, get out, we're letting you go." Officer Coon said as he pulled open the door. "I'm letting you go now as long as you never come back here again. This is a dangerous place and we don't want you kids getting hurt."
He helped Gabriella out, uncuffing her. "Thank you, Officer. I'll put in a good word for you to my dad."
"Speaking of Mayor Montez, he was notified and you should probably get home as soon as possible." Officer Coon added. "Come on son, you have a long night of ass kissing to do." He told me, helping me out of the car. He uncuffed me and I rubbed my wrists immediately.
"Thank you officer." I said through gritted teeth.
"Come on, Bolton. Let's get out of here." Gabriella said, reaching over for me. She held my arm and rubbed her thumb over my bruising wrist.
I helped her into the truck before I got in myself. "Let me see yours." I said reaching over for her hands.
"They weren't as tight as yours, they were just uncomfortable." She said, showing me the pink rings around her wrists.
I brought them up to my lips, kissing them lightly before I placed them back in her lap. "I'm sorry they hurt you."
"It's okay, Babe, I'm fine, honest." She said softly, reaching over for my wrists. "Yours look sore."
"They are, but I'll be okay." I said, stretching them out in her hands. She brought them up to her lips to kiss them. "Thank you."
"Anytime." She grinned, getting comfortable next to me.
I found my keys and started up the truck. I jumped on the freeway to go the quickest route to Gabriella's house. Hopefully, we could defuse the situation with her father and she wouldn't be in too much trouble. I was still planning to sneak into her room tonight after her dad went to sleep.
I parked in front of her house and I could see her father pacing back and forth in the window. I looked over at Gabriella. "Are you nervous?" I asked her, cutting the engine.
"Nah, I can handle my dad." She said, smiling at me. "Why? Are you?"
"I'm kind of shitting my pants." I said honestly.
"Oh, come on, walk me to my door and give me my first goodnight kiss of the night." She grinned teasingly as she slid out of the truck.
I grinned to myself. Man, I couldn't believe how lucky I was. I got out of the truck and shut the door behind me. I wrapped my arms around her from behind as I caught up to her. "You're so beautiful." I murmured in between kisses to her neck.
She giggled and stopped once we stepped foot on her porch. She turned to me and smiled. "I had a lot of fun tonight, Thank you Bolton."
I took her hands and grinned. There were so many words running through my mind, I wanted to string the perfect words together to tell her exactly how I felt. My heart knew she was special since I first talked to her. I know now, with my whole being I'm in love with the amazing girl standing in front of me. "I did, too. I have fun with you anywhere though, even in the back of a cop car."
She smiled at me. "You're so handsome Bolton. I'll call you when It's clear."
"Sounds good to me. I think I'm going to go to 7-11 to get snacks. Do you want anything?" I asked, playing with her fingers.
"Chocolate." She said, tilting her head. "And those sour things I like."
"M&Ms or Hershey's bar?"
"The bar, we can share." She smiled, standing on her tip toes to give me a kiss. "Thank you."
"Anything for you." I murmured, cupping her cheek to brush her lip with my thumb. I leaned down, kissing her lips slowly."I've been thinking an-"
"Gabriella, go inside." Her father said standing in the doorway. "I have to speak with Mr. Bolton for a moment."
"Dad, I'm not going anywhere. Whatever you say to him, you can say to me." Gabi said crossing her arms.
"Gabriella, you just got arrested. I had my chief of police call me to let me know my eighteen year old daughter was trespassing in a very dangerous area." Mr. Montez said calmly. "You're grounded for the weekend and I shouldn't even let you two see each other anymore."
Gabriella rolled her eyes. "I get the weekend, but I'm going to see Troy at school. You can't forbid me to do anything. I'm valedictorian like you wanted, I'm going to Stanford like you wanted. Isn't that enough for you? Can't I be myself for two minutes without you controlling me?"
I frowned. "Gabi, go inside, I'll see you on Monday." I kissed her forehead and she looked up at me. I nodded to let her know I was still going to make an appearance tonight.
She sighed and nodded back at me. "It's not his fault, Dad. It was my idea." She said, walking into the house and straight up the stairs.
I took a deep breath before I looked Mr. Montez in the eye. "You could have been charged as adults." He said, looking at me. "That is the last thing I want for Gabriella."
"I understand, sir." I nodded. "We just wanted a place to talk, away from the city noise and the lights. She wanted to watch the airplanes take off and I should have used better judgment. I apologize for putting us all in a difficult situation that could have easily been avoided."
Mr. Montez nodded. "I like you, Bolton. I always told myself that when Gabriella finds herself a boyfriend, he has to be able to look past the politics and the name. I had so many people ask me if they could pursue dating her. They were all respectable enough, came from good families of friends that I have. I said no, do you want to know why?"
"Sure." I said after a moment.
"Because I didn't know if they wanted to be with her for her or be with her for me. I know it probably sounds dumb to you because you're the first boyfriend and the first boy in public school who took an interest in her."
I shook my head. "I am definitely not the first, Sir. To be honest, every guy at East High would kill to have a chance to be with your daughter but they're afraid of you. I was and still am very intimidated by you but since I love Gabriella, I'll push past the fact that you're intimidating. I'll deal with the third degree and respect the curfews because she's the best thing that's ever happened to me."
Mayor Montez sighed. "Just take her out to a movie next time."
I nodded. "Goodnight, Mr. Montez."
"Goodnight, Troy."
I walked back to my truck and got in. What a night. I drove down the street to 7-11 and I walked around the store, replaying the whole night in my head. I grabbed a hershey's bar and some watermelon sour patch kids. I grabbed some skittles for me before I grabbed a can of sweet tea. I paid for the candy and walked back to my truck.
Gabriella has sent me a text letting me know it was okay to sneak in. I drove back towards Gabriella's house and parked around the corner. I put the snacks in my backpack and put it on my back. I locked the truck and walked over towards Gabriella's house.
The left side on her house was always dark, making it easier for me to hop to fence without being noticed. The tree and her balcony were on the left side as well. I climbed the tree effortlessly, landing on the balcony silently. I tapped on her window four times and waited for her to open the door. She slid open the door and gave me a small smile as I walked in.
"Long time no see." I said quietly, shutting the door behind me.
She wrapped her arms around me, pressing her head into my chest. "Let's lay down."
"Did you dad come and talk to you?" I asked, leading her to the bed. She climbed onto the bed while I turned the lights out. I took my backpack off before I climbed in next to her.
"He talked at me like he normally does. I can't wait to be out of here." She said with a sigh.
"Don't say that. You know you'll miss them so much when you leave."
"I'll miss you the most." She said, wrapping her arms around me.
"I'll miss you more." I murmured, pressing a kiss into her hair.
We lay in silence for a couple long moments. Just when I think she's fallen asleep I hear her voice. "What were you going to say on the doorstep?" She asked quietly, letting me know she was wide awake like I was.
"I was going to say that I've been thinking about us a lot." I started quietly. "We've been together for almost nine months and I have come to terms with something."
She looked amused. "What? That my dad is annoying and you want to dump me?"
I shook my head, grinning. "Just the opposite."
"You're in love with my dad?"
"Shut up." I laughed quietly, kissing her lips.
"You're in love with my mom."
"No, Gabriella." I emphasized every syllable in her name. "I'm in love with you."
A small smile took over her face. "Really? Why?"
I chuckled, kissing her mouth. "Because you're the only person who would ask me why. I love everything about you from your hot mom to your crazy dad. Like I told your dad today, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me, Montez."
"I love you too, Bolton."
"I knew it before tonight but just seeing you today just being yourself then we got arrested and you were just giving them shit. It just solidified everything. I wanted to tell you so many times tonight that I love you but I never find the perfect time for these kind of things."
"I think you're doing a pretty good job." She said with a small smile. "Sorry for going all wild child today."
"I love watching you get fired up." I leaned in to kiss her nose. "I love every minute with you."
"Dad says I'm grounded. My mom is asleep, so I'm sure she'll wake up tomorrow and be all sad and mom like. It's not like we were in any real danger."
I shrugged my shoulders. "I guess we'll understand when we have annoying defiant kids."
"Are we going to break up?" She asked, looking at me.
"Never."
"Never? I doubt that."
I smiled. "I don't. You're the love of my life, Gabriella Montez. Unless you dump me, I'm not going anywhere."
"What about college?"
I shrugged. "What about college? You'll be at Stanford. I'll be in Albuquerque. You have to come home for Christmas, birthdays, holidays, spring break." I listed as I pressed soft kisses to her shoulder. "I'll fly out there for weekends and anytime that I can."
"But what if you find someone you like better?"
"You're kidding right?" I asked with a blank expression. "You're the absolute best. I don't even deserve you. The real question is, what if you find somebody better?"
Gabriella thought for a moment. "Bolton, I'm going to Stanford University. It's probably going to be filled with geeks and nerds."
"Geeks and nerds that you'll have a lot in common with. They'll be pretty ones like me there too."
She giggled, kissing his face. "But they're not you, Troy."
"They'll be better."
"If they're not you, they're not for me." She stated. She rolled over to lay on top of me. Her knees were tucked on both sides of me as she rest comfortably. "I figure this… I leave in August, I get to come back for a week in October. We have crazy hot sex. Cold spell until Thanksgiving then more crazy hot sex. When I go back I'll only have a few weeks until I get to be home for three weeks of crazy hot sex. Then spring semester."
I grinned at my girl. "Okay, I'm liking this."
"In between, we'll have skype dates and phone calls." She fell silent, studying my face. "Promise me something?"
"Anything." I said without a hesitation.
"Promise me we will always answer each other's calls, even if were mad at each other or in the middle of a fight. Promise me, no silent treatments and a ten minute window in case we don't answer because we're in the shower."
"I promise." I agreed, brushing her hair back from her face. "I love you Gabi. We will make it."
"We better." She agreed, kissing my lips slowly.
"You know what I think?"
"What?" She asked amused.
"I think we should turn on Netflix and eat our snacks." I said with a small grin, pressing a lingering kiss to her lips.
"Deal." She rolled off the bed and shook out of her pants, getting comfortable. I pulled off my shoes and pulled the snacks out of the bag. She glanced back at me. "Take your pants off you freak." She grabbed the remote and hopped back on her bed. She turned on her smart TV, turning the volume down.
I tossed the snacks on her bed and took off my pants. She was crazy, but I loved her. "What are we watching?"
"Documentaries." She said, flipping through them.
"Again?" I asked with a small smile. They were her favorite, besides horror movies. "Not the one about the whales, please."
She smiled at me, the television illuminating her face. "Don't worry, baby, I watched that one by myself. Ooh, we can watch the world series one… the one about the earthquake." She explained, turning it on. "Ooh, chocolate." Gabriella picked up the Hershey bar and unwrapped a corner.
I opened my sweet tea as quietly as possible. I took a sip before Gabriella reached out for it. I handed it over, scooping up the snacks and putting them in my lap. "Good?" I asked with a small smile.
She nodded with a wide grin. She handed me the can and I put it on her bedside table. "Want some?" She asked, breaking me off a square. I nodded, opening my mouth. She popped the chocolate in with a giggle before she cuddled against me.
I chewed as I wrapped my arms around my girl. "I love you." I murmured, pressing a kiss against the side of her head.
"I love you too." She smiled up at me, turning back to the screen.
The chocolate and snacks were soon forgotten as her eyelids started drooping. She did this all the time, but I didn't mind. Every documentary she turned on, she'd pass out within minutes, having to watch them all over again at a later date. I moved the snacks off my lap, shifting to lay her down. Her eyes flicked open and she mumbled something. "Shh…" I shushed her quietly, stroking her hair.
"Don't leave." She said more clearly.
"I'm not. I'm not going anywhere, baby, I promise." I whispered to her. I slid down on the bed and she shifted against me. Her leg draped over mine and her warm hand slid under my shirt. "Close your eyes."
"They are closed." She said with a small smile.
"Go to sleep." I whispered softly, pressing a kiss to her neck.
"Mhm." She hummed.
I gazed down at the love of my life. She was perfect even asleep and drooling a little like she does. My heart was full just looking at her. I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life loving anybody else but Gabi. I leaned down giving a kiss to her lips. A small smile formed on her lips. I held on tighter.
Gabriella fell into a deep sleep. I gave her another kiss before I wiggled out of her grasp. I had to go home, soon. I decided to put my pants on, turn off the television and clean up her room a little. I left our snacks on the desk where I'm sure we'd finish them tomorrow night.
I slipped out the balcony doors, locking it before clicking it shut. I climbed down the tree and over the fence. I climbed in my truck that was parked around the corner. I drove home and headed straight to bed. My dad was surprisingly asleep on the couch with the television on. I closed the door to my room and face planted on my bed.
Four and a half years later
"Troy."
"Bolton…." A voice softly sang in my ear. "Wake up, I miss you."
A small smile crept onto my face. I opened one eye to look at the beautiful girl kneeling next to the bed. "I'm tired, baby." I mumbled, scooting to the far side of my bed. "Come."
She giggled, climbing into the bed. "Get up lazy. We're in Sweden! There's so many things to do and so many places to see!"
"We just spent fifteen hours on an airplane, baby. I didn't sleep at all." Gabriella brushed the bangs out of my eyes. "We'll be here for a while week."
"Can we never go back?" She asked, moving to straddle my waist.
"We have to go back because…. Well… I guess we don't have to go back." I grinned, sleepily.
She leaned down, kissing my lips. "We have to go back." She rolled her eyes. "We have to relive every detail of the wedding. My mom is going to bug us about grandchildren, even through my dad wants us to wait until we're financially stable. Your parents are going to be amazing as always and not crazy like mine."
"We're still waiting until we're thirty right?" I asked, thinking back to our previous agreement.
"Right." She said confidently. "We're going to travel and work and be happy with each other for the next eight-ish years. Then we are going to have babies."
"What about uh oh babies?" I asked with a chuckle.
"Let's hope that doesn't happen until after 25." She tossed her hair back, leaning down to kiss me again.
I sighed, kissing my wife. "Okay, Mrs. Bolton. You've convinced me to get up and get dressed."
"Good, I'm starving." She grinned, rolling off me.
I got up and took a quick shower. She finished her make up as I got dressed. We went down to the lobby of the hotel hand in hand. Our rings are still shiny and new on our fingers. They're matching silver bands- hers accompanied with the engagement ring I bought two years ago. I got so excited, I barely waited a month before I asked her.
Mayor Montez was surprised when I showed up at his doorstep while Gabriella was still in California. I was in town for my dad's birthday. I took him out for coffee and we discussed football, the only thing we really bonded over other than his daughter. I brought up the possibility of engagement and the color drained from his face.
When I took him back to the house a little while later, I sat both of her parents down together and officially asked for their blessing. Gabriella's mom cried and Mayor Montez looked like he needed an oxygen tank. After two painful minutes of silence, they gave me their blessing.
"Babe," My wife's voice caught my attention. "Are you ready to order?"
"Yeah, baby, I'll get whatever you get. I'm going to find a table outside." I walked to the outside terrace and found a table. I inhaled deeply and looked out at the city of Stockholm. It was beautiful and the air was fresh, the perfect setting for a honeymoon.
Gabriella came back with two cups of coffee and a tray full of food. She leaned down and gave me a kiss before she sat down. "Sweden was a good idea baby."
"It was yours." I grinned.
She looked at me, confused. "What? We never talked about going to Sweden."
"Sure we did." I laughed. "Remember when we got arrested? You said you wanted to go to Sweden."
"You seriously remember that from four years ago?"
"Of course." I grinned proudly. "Your dad almost killed me and I fell completely in love with you."
She smiled back at me. "I love you, Troy Bolton."
"I love you too." I reciprocated. "It was your idea to get arrested too."
She narrowed her eyes at me. "Not to get arrested."
"Okay, then to go watch airplanes on private property." I reached over for her hand.
"Good thing we did or else you could of dumped me and went to prom with Sharpay Evans."
I threw my head back and laughed. "Never in a million years, baby."
"Thank god for getting caught up."
"Amen to that." I winked at her before I dug into my breakfast.
