In the morning following that awkward night, the three departed early to investigate the innards of Vah Medoh. Revali and another powerful Rito warrior, Gyuro, who had been responsible for toting Shiekah up and down to the perch where the giant mechanical beast rested, took Zelda and Link upon their backs so that they would not have to climb the stone face. Inside, Zelda allowed Revali to take the lead, and Link trailed behind them.

"You see this chamber here, Princess… The Sheikah who have been working on it are at a loss as to how to activate this particular segment. The puzzle is rather elaborate."

What stood before the three was a chamber walled off by what looked like glass with a large metallic gate against the back of the wall. There was some kind of mechanism against the far back, a raised stone pillar with a rounded edge. And then the slate activation panel to the far left on a small incline.

Link immediately walked up to the clear panel and banged his fist into it.

Revali sighed witheringly. "If it were as simple as breaking the glass, I believe the Sheikah could have achieved such a simple marvel."

Zelda felt herself unleash a slight glare at Revali. While she was at times annoyed with Link's simplistic views of the mechanisms of some of these procedures lacking simplicity or transparency, she could understand Link's confusion. He was a warrior, not a mechanical engineer. However, she also could not bring herself to say so. She could not tell whether it was because she did not wish to embarrass Link by making it seem he needed her verbal defenses, or that she took just a little pleasure in the fact that the chosen knight was in fact not perfect, and finally he too was receiving a reminder of this.

Link cast his own shadow of anger in the Rito champion's direction.

Revali took the hint. "In any case, they cannot determine how to enable the lever to be pressed."

Zelda thumbed her chin in pondering and said, "Is there possibly a secret entrance to this room somewhere?"

Revali shook his head. "I've scoured the entire innards of this beast. No "secret" entrances remain left to be discovered."

"What about the outside?" Zelda asked.

Link had begun to wander around the room, laboriously inspecting random features that apparently signified something to him.

The Rito warrior sighed. "We've even flown to parts of the ship that are not accessible on foot. We've been able to uncover nothing. And as I'm sure you're well aware"

Before he could continue, the floor beneath them trembled and lurched, and a loud series of bangs echoed around them.

Zelda slipped, unable to keep her footing as the floor continued to sway like a ship at sea. Closer to Revali, he swept over to her and prevented her from a harsh fall. Link was quickly at their sides. He and Revali exchanged looks.

"Yiga," Revali confirmed.

He set Zelda down on the ground only for it to shudder beneath them again. More loud booms reverberated from the exterior of Vah Medoh.

"Take her somewhere safe, chosen knight. I know - the chamber in the head - it has the smallest space and least obstructions."

Link nodded, and gently took Zelda from the Rito's grasp, holding her arm and guiding her away from the feathered warrior.

Revali rushed outside. The Yiga were taking advantage of Vah Medoh's lowered state, using firework cannons to blast the exterior, along with bomb arrows.

"They're trying to knock us out of our nest," said Gyuro, a fellow Rito warrior.

"They'll stop at nothing to assassinate the princess and that boy."

"What should I do?"

"Remain close to the big bird and provide cover. Try to deflect their fire with your own bomb arrows if possible. There's no way we're navigating this divine beast out of harm's way with swift evasive tactics. I'm going down to attack."

While Gyuro's instinct was to attack, he knew that Revali entrusting him with the primary defense role was to be taken as an indication of his was about to take flight when Revali interrupted him.

"Gyuro, the princess is towards the front of the ship. Please assign extra warriors to that zone."

He nodded in the affirmative, then they both leapt off of the divine beast's surface and soared in separate directions.

Inside the Divine Beast, Zelda looked at each place of impact as each explosion declared its violent presence. She wanted to do something about this, but what power did she have? None. None at all.

Link had nearly brought her to the zone where Revali had encouraged them to hide because of its stability and defensibility. He motioned for her to climb the ladder up into the head cavern.

The floor beneath them shuddered with the power of another blast.

"We shouldn't be hiding here, Link. We should be doing something to help them."

He shook his head with an adamance she'd not yet seen from him when it came to her commands.

"I know they have a greater advantage since they're able to fly but surely there's something we can do to help."

Link's stare was fiercely stern as he once again visualized a clear "NO" for her.

A sigh slipped through the small opening between her lips and she reluctantly took a hold of the ladder. As she climbed and was about three quarters up, Link on her heels, another massive blast rocked the ship and the grip she thought had been quite tight proved to be far more tenuous. She fell backwards with a horrifying rapidity and momentum as the divine beast lurched beneath them. She barely had time to release a scream and Link only had enough time to leap off the ladder and desperately try to break her fall, but it was too late. Her back and head thudded to the hard floor with a loud cracking sound that made Link's heart sick.
