Chapter 1
It was 4am in the town of Tomobiki, and all was peaceful. Such was never the case in Tomobiki for long however, and sure enough, something was about to happen that morning which would kick off another sequence of wacky hijinks. In a random alleyway, a mysterious portal opens, and a young man tumbles out of it and onto the ground. Although only 17 years old, he already stands 6ft 2in tall; he has brown hair and blue eyes, but his most distinguishing feature are his two yellow horns on his head, which are a little longer than most oni's. He shook his head to regain his senses, then sat up on his knees to check his watch. "Yes, I made it! June 18th, 2020" The boy says to himself with relief. "Now I just need to find her before it's too late." He then took off into the night sky, like a certain flying oni girl we all know and love. We'll get back to our mysterious boy later; for now, we must jump ahead a few hours, and turn our attention over to resident pervert Ataru Moroboshi, who as usual has gotten himself into another heap of trouble.
It was around 10am, when our story proper begins. Lum was chasing and shooting lightning bolts at Ataru for hitting on another girl; a minor annoyance to everyone else in town, but by this point they had grown accustomed to this almost daily disturbance. This time however something different happened; when Ataru came up on a T junction street, someone pulled him to the left and before he knew what was happening, he was being incased in some kind of liquid metal. A second later, the metal took the form of a garbage can, so that by the time Lum had reached his location, she couldn't see him anywhere. But Lum wasn't stupid; she immediately suspected that her unfaithful fiancé was hiding in the trash can that definitely felt out of place. However, when she lifted the lid of the trash can, all she found was regular garbage. While still a little confused, Lum put the lid back down and flew away. A second later; the trash can quickly undid itself, revealing Ataru in its place, as well as a beautiful girl with short blonde hair. "Are you ok?" She asked him; he was still trying to wrap his head around what happened, but quickly gave up on that when he saw the girl behind him. "Not as ok as you are" he said trying to sound smooth; it seemed to work as the girl smiled with a blush on her face. "I noticed you were in a bit of a pickle, so I used my shapeshifting abilities to disguise us until your assailant had gone away" she said. "My name is Mara, what's yours?" She asked sweetly. Once Ataru told her his name, she said he could repay her by taking her out to lunch. He of course accepted her offer, and the two made their way to a diner that he knew well.
They didn't get far; when seemingly out of nowhere, the boy you read about earlier dropped down in front of Ataru and Mara. "Gotcha Zira!" He shouted triumphantly pointing at the blonde, "and don't even try playing dumb, I know it's you." Up until that point, Mara had given off a cutesy and innocent demeanor, but dropped it in a heartbeat once the boy was done talking. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you found a way to follow me sweetie" she said with a sinister smile and a much more mature voice. "Well, no matter, I can jump through as many time-warps as I need to to shake you off." Needless to say, Ataru was very confused, who was this tall and strangely familiar looking boy, who had brown hair and human ears, but the signature horns of an oni. He got the idea that these two knew each other, but when Zira's skin changed from its regular peach tone to turquoise, it just raised further questions. "Zira time and time again I've defeated you, just give yourself up come back to the present with me," said the boy; "what you plan to do here could cause a ripple effect, and shatter all of time & space." At this point, Ataru decided that this alien girl wasn't worth getting in the middle of whatever conflict she had with this boy. He was just about to walk away when suddenly Zira grabbed him, her arm coiling around his body like a snake. "I don't care if it causes the destruction my home planet, I'm going to marry Ataru and bare his child" said Zira in a very theatrical manner. The boy saw right through her hammy delivery, but Ataru completely bought it. He no longer cared that he was wrapped up in her elastic left arm, all that mattered to him now was that a pretty girl wanted to have sex with him. But suddenly The boy closed the gap between him and them, and gripped Zira by the collar of her shirt. "You forget Zira, we're from the future; I saw what you really did to him or what you're really planning to do to him" he said in a much angrier tone. "You know you can't beat me in a fight, so for the last time give up and come back with me." "Never!" Zira snarled, "if I can't have you then no one can." It was at this point that Ataru heard Lum calling for him from a distance. She didn't sound angry anymore, she sounded concerned and he wondered how she would respond to the current situation. Zira also heard Lum's voice, and with a sly expression absorbed Ataru into her body and took on his form. The boy wasn't as concerned as you might think; he was still holding onto Zira but now he was inspecting her morphed body as if checking for something out of place. He seemed to find it once he turned her around, still holding her by the arms. She had on a yellow backpack which the real Ataru definitely wasn't wearing before, and this backpack twitched and wriggled as if something inside it was trying to escape. By the time he figured out what her plan was it was too late, Lum came flying onto the scene which was Zira's cue to get into character. "Help me Lum! Help me!" Cried Zira, perfectly imitating Ataru's voice. "This mugger wants to kill me and steal the gift I just bought for you!" The boy scowled at the dirty trick, but he had to admit, Zira was a damn good actress. Good enough to fool Lum into thinking that she was her dim-witted beloved. "Get away from my darling!" She shouted as she rocketed straight for him. Zira was able to duck just in time as Lum punched him in the jaw, sending him skidding 10ft across the asphalt. The punch only seemed to disorient him for a few seconds; he quickly regained his senses just in time to notice Zira trying to sneak away. He tried to go after her but again he was stopped by Lum, who this time used her electric powers on him. Much to her surprise, the shock seemed to have no effect on the boy; he then grabbed her by the wrist to pull her hands off his shoulders. "You're wasting my time Lum!" He shouted, "that isn't Ataru, that's a shapeshifter from the future here to kill him."
Being an alien princess, Lum could accept a lot of ridiculous sounding things, but time travel was a step too far. Now even more upset, she kicked the boy in the chin which sent him flying. She quickly flew after him, grabbed him by the shirt, spun him around to keep him disoriented, and threw him onto the roof of a nearby building. Despite all that he remained conscious but Lum was soon floating over him ready to strike if he still had some fight in him. "Now who are you really? And how do you know mine and darling's names?" She said, less angry but still stern. He rolled over onto his back to look her in the eye; "I know what I'm about to say will sound crazy, but I have proof. My name is Seiji Moroboshi, and I'm your son from the future." By this point Lum had unfolded her arms and was actually looking at Seiji's face intently; she did start to notice some similarities between him and herself and wondered if this boy was actually telling the truth. "Wait, you said your last name was Moroboshi right?" She asked with sudden excitement. "Does that mean Darling is your father?" "Yes, Ataru is my dad" he answered; he then pulled out his cellphone and brought up a photo of himself as a child riding piggyback on an older looking version of Ataru. Lum immediately noticed the wedding band on his left hand, "So he does eventually marry me" she said with delight. But before she could begin to imagine what her wedding was like, Seiji got up to his feet and shook her back to reality. "Mom listen to me! We don't have time to dream about your future marriage, Dad is in grave danger. That shapeshifter I mentioned has travelled back in time specifically to kill Dad and thus erase my very existence!" Saving the love of her life was incentive enough, but now Lum also wanted to protect Seiji whom she was just beginning to connect with. "Let me help you" she said almost pleadingly; "I could use all the help I get" Seiji replied. "Zira could be anywhere now, disguised as anyone. But if we find her in time, we can easily defeat her with our combined abilities." Lum felt guilty for attacking her own son and allowing this would-be killer to get away in the first place, but Seiji reassured her that she couldn't have known she was an imposter. "Among the ditto people of planet Dissimulare, Zira is one of the best. Luckily I know her well enough by now that I can find her in crowd. Follow me, I'll explain everything while we search." So Lum flew off after Seiji, a million questions and happy fantasies running through her head, and the hope that she and her time traveling son could save those fantasies from being destroyed.
