Chapter 12: Red Thread of Dread
Izuku had woken up early and dressed in the new clothes provided for him, which had been delivered outside his door. He had found them this morning upon leaving the room, only to return to change. The officer's consort outfit was a red, jerkin-style top with a plain white shirt beneath that puffed at the wrists. The top came down to his knees with brown stirrups in low-top leather boots. Looking himself over in the mirror, he said that this would be a new day for him, and that changes were going to start.
He calls Kirishima to his side as he leaves Bakugo sleeping in the bed. The presence of their coupling yesterday was a pleasant soreness in his inner thighs. Bakugo accepted the news of their baby, though the alpha didn't talk a lot about the child. Izuku figured it was due to Bakugo's personality, how he wasn't the type of person to show or understand emotions easily. Kirishima barks and runs off with Izuku calling after him, but the large red dog doesn't come back.
"Kirishima wanders the castle all the time,"
Izuku recognizes Tokoyami's voice and looks behind him to see the dark-cloaked omega literally emerging from the shadows.
"Oh, Tokoyami, you startled me a bit," Izuku says with a nervous chuckle. "Good morning!"
"Hm. Good morning," Tokoyami pulls his black cloak tighter around him. "I'm not one for the daylight, to be honest. No morning is 'good'," he smiles at Izuku's laugh. "I was coming to summon you," he says. "I'm glad we stumbled upon each other,"
"I guess it has to do with my new status and title?" Izuku questioned. "I was heading to the barracks…my new job is supposed to start right away, and I assume that's the first place I should start."
"Before you do that, please come with me to my chambers. I have something for you,"
"For me?"
Izuku was in awe of Tokoyami's chambers when they first entered, his eyes going right to the nearest wall sconce with the purple flame. He was prepared to touch it when Tokoyami's slight hand gently lowered his, telling him not to touch it or it would burn, just like any flame. Tokoyami also told him to speak softly, as Shoji was still asleep in the bed. Izuku glanced across the room to the canopy bed encircled with dark purple curtains, which looked too small for someone of Shoji's size. He focuses on Tokoyami again, mentally trying to picture how a massive alpha like Shoji can safely mount a small omega like Tokoyami. The dark omega comes up to just his shoulder and the start of Shoji's ribcage.
As he watches Tokoyami maneuvering on the large wooden table littered with magic items, he is reminded that Bakugo has been with him. Izuku, of course, trusted Bakugo's story, but he also knows that there are two sides to a story and his curiosity was beginning to get the best of him. He had a few questions to ask Tokoyami.
"Hey, Tokoyami? May I ask you something?" He asks softly.
"Sure,"
"Um…about you and Bakugo-," he sees the others' shoulders stiffen for a brief second. "He told me last night. He said it was happenstance…is that true? It's alright whatever the answer is," Izuku assures him. "I'm not going to be upset or angry! I just want to make sure that you're doing alright," When Tokoyami wasn't answering him, Izuku decided to drop the issue because obviously, something must have happened on the omega's side that Bakugo probably wasn't aware of. "It's okay, I'm sorry to have made you uncomfortable,"
"No. It's…quite alright," Tokoyami turns around and holds a glimmering medallion on a leather string. "This is the token of protection I want to give you," he says. "This is why I was going to summon you to my chambers."
Izuku took a closer look at the medallion, which was woven with some type of grass in a unique design.
"This is for me? For protection? Is there a spell on it? Is it dark or white magic? Is it really magic? What type of danger will it protect me from?"
"It's a gift," Tokoyami ceased Izuku's muttering. "While we were sailing on the ship to the kingdom, I overheard you speaking to Shinso, and your extreme kindness and willingness to comprehend complicated issues, like Shoto, struck me as…well…also divine."
Izuku tilts his head, slightly confused. "Divine? But…I'm just a fis- er, Keigo's cousin! I'm nothing special,"
"I know the truth," Tokoyami tells him. "But that's not what I'm speaking of," he places the medallion in Izuku's palm. "I fear you are too naive and too soft-hearted for this place," he focuses his eyes on Izuku's still soft green ones. "There's too much trust and hope in your eyes…they shine with so much light…it is almost blinding. The type of people who frequent this realm, this kingdom, THIS castle, are not to be trusted so easily. Title or no title, you are still beneath them, and many will want to see you hurt. And-" he trails off.
"And what?" Izuku asks.
"I'm not sure. Never mind. I lost my thoughts," he didn't want to mention the strange burst of energy or dark magic he had felt from the mirror to Izuku. One less thing for Izuku to worry about.
Izuku clenches the amulet in his hand. "Thank you for this," he says. "I hope I don't need it, but I will wear it. I guess I should heed your warnings more, Tokoyami. You know this world better than I do," he ties the amulet around his neck with the leather string.
"Never trust anyone at first word or glance," Tokoyami tells him, then lowers his gaze to Izuku's belly. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling fine," he says, gently patting his belly. "I told Bakugo about the baby yesterday and we-" he blushed, clearing his throat. "He was happy about it."
"...I see."
Izuku's eyes widened as he suddenly realized something that he had missed before; if Bakugo had been with Tokoyami while he was in heat, then did that mean…? Tokoyami appeared to have read his mind.
"You should be going now," Tokoyami says quickly. "Always wear that on your person. Good day to you, Izuku."
"Wait!"
"I have work to do,"
Before Izuku could press him further, he was suddenly back in the hallway. Izuku looked around, wondering how he got back here, then remembered it was due to Tokoyami's magic. He reaches up to hold the amulet, then tucks it beneath his shirt. Tokoyami wanted to be rid of him before he could ask if there were any children between them. Bakugo had lied about Shoto, would he be lying about Tokoyami, too? Izuku had to wonder, if Tokoyami rushed him out so fast, then there must be something he is hiding. He would have to make a mental note of it to ask Bakugo later. If Bakugo does have any other children, he would like to know about them.
Shaking his head clear of the assumptions, he heads towards the barracks, getting lost along the way, and runs into Shinso. Shino asks him where he's going and Izuku tells him the barracks, and that he lost his way. Shinso offered to guide him there and Izuku accepted. The alpha soldier is friendlier than he looks with a slight frown with tired eyes. The purplish-blue hair reminded him slightly of Bakugo's, and in a way, he thought, the two of them are similar. Well, aside from the yelling, of course. Bakugo yells, Shinso speaks little. But so far, in his time here, Shinso has been nothing but kind and helpful. He thanks the alpha for the support and notices a light flush on Shinso's cheeks.
'I guess he's not used to getting compliments,' Izuku figured.
At the barracks, Shinso takes the time to introduce Izuku to other officers currently present. Only two out of the six he met greeted him warmly while the others barely acknowledged him. Izuku placed a hand over the amulet beneath his shirt since he is beginning to understand Tokoyami's warning. Shinso offered some advice, telling him to not back down for anything, even if he is pressed on an issue, to gain their respect. And, Shinso added, that if anyone was giving him a hard time because he was an omega or otherwise to let him know and he'd help. Izuku thanked Shinso for his help and, beginning the first part of his new title and job, started to make his rounds to the guards in training.
"Officer Izuku Midoriya," a castle guard calls out to him. "Young Lord Shoto requires your presence!"
Izuku felt a small chill run up his spine at the mention of Shoto's name and his request. Would they be alone? Would Shoto try anything? Should he say he wants to talk to Bakugo first? Izuku could conclude that, since Shoto is the master of this castle, outranking both him and Bakugo, it's likely that he needs to obey. Izuku swallows hard and joins the guard, letting the beta male lead him through the castle and to the doors of Shoto's chambers. The guard left him and Izuku looked up and down the hall, searching for anyone else around. Should he just knock or announce that he's here? There shouldn't be anything wrong with knocking, so that's what he did. Would Shoto even hear his knock? The doors were huge and made of dark, heavy wood.
"Enter." Came the faint command of Shoto.
Izuku swallows hard again and pushes the heavy door open to step inside, closing it behind him. He didn't move from his spot, folding his hands behind his back and waiting for Shoto to acknowledge him. Shoto's room wasn't any less extravagant than the rest of the castle. Shoto sits at a desk near the fireplace, head down while the feathered quill in his hand moves gently. The room was so quiet that Izuku could hear the scratching of the quill against the parchment.
"Come over," Shoto commands, still not looking up from the paper.
Izuku swallows again and proceeds, stepping lightly, and keeping quiet, as was previously instructed on day one. He kept a few feet away from the desk, still waiting patiently.
Shoto places the quill back in the ink then dusts the drying powder over the writing. He blows it off, purposefully, in Izuku's direction. He finally lifts his eyes to look at the omega dressed in official clothing, which actually suits him. Shoto wouldn't say that to him, though.
"I've summoned you here to tell you that you have been promoted."
"Promoted? But…I just started today?"
"This is your new contract," Shoto holds up the document he had been working on. "From now on, you're to be my personal groom. You will often be at my side and serve me in whatever way I need. Now that you have a title, you can advance, and how fortunate that I've decided to take you in as my groom." He hands the paper to Izuku.
Izuku reads it over, not once, but twice. He knew what Shoto was doing; he wanted to keep them apart. All of his duties to Shoto are similar to that of a servant. He would be accompanying Shoto daily and sometimes at night, doing everything from shining his boots to summoning and serving his meals. Izuku couldn't accept Shoto's offer for two reasons; one is he didn't want to, and two, being away from Bakugo for too long would hurt the baby. Izuku wasn't sure if Shoto knew about his pregnancy, but maybe if he tells the young lord, he'll want him to keep the Officer's Consort job.
"This is very kind of you to offer," Izuku tells him. "But…I'm afraid I can't be away from Bakugo for so long because," he places a hand on his belly, feeling the life there, and smiles. "We're having a baby together, and it needs the aura of its alpha father."
Shoto's blood ran cold with the reveal of Izuku's pregnancy, though he shouldn't be surprised. He suspected it, but Izuku confirmed it, and he wasn't pleased.
"Does Bakugo know?" Shoto asked, his voice stale.
"Yes. I told him yesterday,"
"Bakugo doesn't care for children. Did you know that?"
Izuku gently cleared his throat. "Um…I think that's the persona he gives off, but he was happy when I told him."
Shoto clenches his fists on the desk. The life he had pictured with Bakugo was snuffed out by Bakugo himself. Izuku, on the other hand, is living the life with Bakugo that HE wanted. Shoto always figured, and hoped, that love would blossom between him and Bakugo some time after they were married. And when they had a child, or children, Bakugo would warm up to them, too. Why is Izuku getting the easy side of Bakugo and he the hard side? Are Izuku and Bakugo actually fated mates? Is there such a thing? Or was that just for fairytales and romantic ballads? Bakugo says he doesn't believe in love, and yet the alpha is treating Izuku with more love and devotion than he ever showed to him.
Shoto has never known omega jealousy before; and now that he felt it, he hated it because there was no way to control it. Well, there were a few ways, but he can't risk Bakugo hating him. How could such a low-born omega from a small fishing village rise above him in the matters of Bakugo? He's known Bakugo longer, so why?
"There's a simple solution to that," Shoto says. "Bakugo will spend some time here, too. Now, sign the contract, if you can even write?"
Izuku ignored the jab. "Yes, I can write," however, he's never written with a quill and ink before, only charcoal. "But…I think I should talk with Bakugo first,"
"I rank above Bakugo, have you forgotten that?" Shoto narrows his eyes.
"Oh. Yes." 'I guess I have to do it. What other choice do I have?' He takes up the quill and, trying to keep his hand from shaking, signs his name beneath Shoto's. It's thick and sloppy, unlike Shoto's, which was thin and expertly written in perfect calligraphy. Izuku drips a large dot of ink at the end of his name when he finishes by mistake.
"You write like a child," Shoto mocks him, taking the contract. "We'll get you properly bathed and clothed. I can still smell the fish on you and I don't like it,"
Izuku couldn't say anything back even though he wanted to; he almost wishes to tell Shoto, and Bakugo, too, that they should try to come up with another insult that wasn't him smelling like fish. But now that he is working closely with Shoto, he can expect to hear this insult regularly. Although he knows it's going to be a challenge being Shoto's servant, it's also a great chance for him to get close to Shoto. If he can make friends with the other omega, then it would eliminate a lot of issues.
"I'm a fast learner, so I promise to serve you to the best of my ability," Izuku assures him.
Shoto didn't respond.
"Um…how am I to address you now?"
"Still as, 'My Lord,' and you still cannot speak unless spoken to," he reminds Izuku. "Is there anything you would like to ask?"
"Yes, I would. I want you to know that Bakugo and I share a lot of the same ideals and thoughts for change," Izuku starts. "He says that you also share those same ideas. I think we should work closer together than push us further apart."
Shoto turns his head away from Izuku. "You are nothing like myself or Bakugo in regards to political skill,"
"But, if you were just to hear me out-" Shoto cuts him off.
"I've had top schooling with the best tutors and Bakugo's education is only one step down from that," Shoto said. "And just what level of schooling do you have?"
Izuku clenches his fists, glad that he still had them behind his back. "I'm self-taught," Izuku replied.
Shoto let out a small, amused scoff. "Self-taught? Self-taught in what, exactly? Small town politics and reading phases of the moon for tide control are hardly considered academics."
"But since I grew up mostly a commoner, I understand the plight of the poor person, and I can bring all that forward, so we can start to fix it!"
"And what's the first thing you think we, the kingdom, should do to help the common man?"
"Stop the tributes," Izuku says. "The people need to build up their own money to survive before just giving it away to rich people who don't need it for free. If well off people have the money to spend, then why are they sitting around and having everything handed to them by hard working people for no price? You can't say that the revolutionists rose up because they just feel rebellious. They have strong reasons."
Shoto tapped his finger on the desk. "You almost sound like one of them,"
Izuku froze, trying to hide the reaction on his face. He shouldn't have mentioned anything about the revolution, but Shoto's mocking words had him wanting to prove himself that he is just as smart as them. Did he just shoot himself in the foot?
"I…I don't agree with some of the things they choose to do," Izuku says. "But I understand how they feel. I just think there's better ways to go about it, and from what Bakugo has told me, you agree that changes need to be made."
Shoto wouldn't admit that Izuku had some inkling of what he was talking about, and perhaps the omega wasn't as dumb as he assumed. This is just another reason to dislike Izuku, for if he can properly debate with Bakugo, then he's not just some flaky omega. Bakugo always admired intelligence and strength above all else, and Shoto knows he has both. However, Izuku processes them as well, at least to some degree. A small part of him kept chanting to have the omega killed and disposed of, but Shoto wouldn't do that, especially now that there is a baby. He could wait until the baby is born and then have Izuku eliminated, but again, his subconscious annoyingly advised him against such an act.
"My lord? Are you alright?"
Shoto lifts his gaze to Izuku. "I'm fine. Go over there and pour me some wine," he watches Izuku cross the room to obey. Aside from the omega and alpha instincts, just what does Bakugo see in Izuku, Shoto wondered. 'There's nothing charming or alluring about him.'
Suddenly, Shoto had a realization. Maybe, he thought, he was going about this issue all wrong. Instead of viewing Izuku as a constant threat and trying to find ways to get rid of him, maybe he can get Izuku to leave willingly! He's focusing too much energy on Izuku when he should be focusing on winning Bakugo back. That makes a smile touch his lips. Bakugo fell for him before, and the alpha can do it again. He's been so blinded by omega jealousy that he failed to see the simplest solution. Nothing is going to change with Izuku's servitude, however.
Shoto takes the cup of wine from Izuku and says, "Call the servants quarters and have them bring up hot bath water for you. I'll allow you to use my bathing chamber."
"Which direction is the servant quarters?" Izuku asks.
"Go to that wall of cords over there," he points to an area near the door. "Pull the cord for 'bath' and a bell will ring in the quarters."
Izuku goes over and finds the cord that reads 'bath' and gently tugs twice at it. Shoto didn't correct him, so he must have done it right. He shouldn't be surprised with how the Todorokis live after all he's seen so far, but the bell thing was a little over the top. Though he won't say 'no' to Shoto, he doesn't think he needs another bath at all. Bakugo had made sure the fish and ocean smell was gone from his skin, so this was just another way of Shoto insulting him.
'Just keep positive and do your best to make friends.' Izuku tells himself while taking a deep, calming breath.
Bakugo stirs awake when there's a knock on the door. He groans for Deku to go and answer it but opens one eye when he receives no response. Deku wasn't in bed, nor was Kiri. Bakugo shouts to the person at the door to 'go away' and they do because there's no more knocking. As usual, he cursed his arm and leg for hurting as he got up for the water closet and then to dress. It was hard dressing on his own but he would never ask for help. Where was Deku anyway? He wondered. He assumes Kiri went with him since the dog wasn't here either.
'Oh, he does have his new job to start,' Bakugo tells himself. 'That's just like him to get up early for work,'
'We're going to have a baby!'
Deku's words echoed in his head and he's reminded that, in a few months, he is going to be a father. That gave him a moment of pause and he suddenly felt unsteady on his feet. The reality of it had begun to sink in and his first thought was, 'what is Shoto going to think?' He's thrown enough shit in the omega's face already with Deku, and when he learns of a baby…then Shoto might kick them both out. He won't lose his chance to climb higher. There has to be a way to secure his place by Shoto's side while also having Deku. It was selfish, he knew that, but he was struggling with the thought of giving up one over the other. He didn't want to give up either Deku or his chance at a higher position.
'If only I didn't leave on that boat…then none of this would have happened! But it's all Shoto's fault!'
'We'll figure something out,' Deku's other words on the boat reminded him that they would find a way to manage this situation.
'Stupid Deku,' he sighs. 'Maybe I should go see Shoto…'
Hobbling to the door, Bakugo noticed a piece of paper slide under it, most likely from the person who had been knocking earlier. He picked it up and read that Izuku has a new position as Lord Shoto's personal groom. Bakugo growled and crinkled the paper in his hand, throwing it across the room.
"That damned Shoto! He did this on purpose!" Bakugo shouted in the room.
He knows that a groom must stay with their lord or master for long periods of time, serving them. Deku would have been better off staying as just a commoner. But then, he had a different thought, which turned his rage into smugness. Shoto must not have thought the whole thing through because now that Deku was elevated even higher, that gives Deku the right to marry someone of high office; like himself. If Keigo shares the wealth of the Takami family with Deku, then he will have some status- not the level of Shoto's, but better than what Deku has now. He could still reach higher AND get his own castle AND keep Deku. However, that meant completely pushing Shoto aside, and it wouldn't be wise to make an enemy out of a Todoroki.
But there is the possibility of Shoto demoting Deku; unless he can get Keigo on their side? Keigo holds sway over Enji, who in turn holds sway over Shoto. Yet that solution came crashing down around him because of Keigo's father-like relationship with Tokoyami; and how he screwed that all up. He swore under his breath, cursing both omegas and alphas and the whole cycle of dynamics.
Izuku couldn't complain about the bath because it was nice and warm with a relaxing aroma of herbs and oils. His skin had never felt so silky before, and he assumed this is how Shoto kept his skin so supple and clear. Shoto really is an attractive omega, Izuku thinks to himself, feeling a little jealous. He was never vain, but he also never had another omega to compare himself to. He did have to wonder if Bakugo chose him over Shoto because of the bond and not looks; if it were looks, then he would be rejected. Shoto can enter a room and all heads will turn as if a bright, beautiful light has mesmerized them. Shoto could have so much influence over people with just appearance alone. But Shoto cannot sympathize with the regular person because he's never experienced poverty or hard labor. Looks would only get him so far.
He got distracted from his thoughts when he smelled the bar of soap, indulging in its floral scent. He couldn't stop scrubbing himself and even played with the bubbles the soap was making in the water.
But his peaceful, playful moment was cut short by Shoto entering the bathing chamber.
"There's someone here to see you," Shoto states flatly and Bakugo enters from behind.
Izuku's eyes light up. "Kacchan!"
Shoto sneered a little at the nickname.
"Stupid Deku Fish, you didn't wake me up before you left this morning!"
"I'm sorry, but you were sleeping so soundly that I didn't want to wake you," Izuku says with a smile. "You still need a lot of rest to get better."
Bakugo approaches the tub. "So, this is your new job now?"
"He signed the contract," Shoto pointed out.
Bakugo met Shoto's eyes with narrowed ones. "You should have consulted with me first,"
Shoto shrugs his shoulders. "I didn't have to," he replied. "I outrank you both."
"You got me there," Bakugo says but kept his smirk to himself. He would play Shoto's game for now. "I'm so used to this type of lifestyle that I want Deku to know how to live it,"
Izuku pipes up and says, "Um, I'm really okay with what I had before all this,"
Shoto tells him 'You're lying' and Bakugo tells him to 'Shut up,' both at the same time.
Izuku pouts and sinks into the tub a little more. Something was passing between Shoto and Bakugo for he swears he can see the bolts of lightning bouncing off their gazes.
"You can't keep him for long periods of time," Bakugo tells Shoto. "He needs to be with me,"
"For the baby, or for the bond?" Shoto asks, raising a calm brow.
Bakugo growls. "For both, stupid!"
Shoto circles around Bakugo, looking him up and down, and says, "It's not really going to matter once you're healed and back to work as an officer. You have much to catch up on."
"Doesn't matter. Deku needs to be with me,"
Shoto flipped his cape behind him. "Then you'll simply have to spend more time here,"
'Oh, very clever, Shoto,' Bakugo says to himself.
"If you'll excuse me, I need to refill my wine," Shoto says, leaving the room.
Bakugo hobbles over to make sure Shoto is out of earshot then goes to Izuku. "Listen fast, because I'm only going to say this once!" he whispers harshly. "Stay on Shoto's good side! Make yourself climb to a higher status! Then we can marry and I can obtain a higher rank! Play along for now!"
"I'm fine with that," Izuku whispers back. "And I think it's a good thing that you will be here with Shoto and me more often! We can discuss topics for change,"
"One damn thing at a time, and stop being so compliant! It's annoying!" he dunked Izuku's head under the water as Shoto came back inside. "Remember to rinse your hair out, Deku!" Bakugo covers for them.
"Yes, Kacchan," Izuku sputtered a bit from the water.
"You are dismissed now, Bakugo," Shoto tells him. "I already let you in without an invitation, and now you may take your leave. I have much to teach Izuku."
Bakugo scoffed. "Yeah, whatever,"
"I'm sure I'll see you soon," Izuku reaches his hand out and takes Bakugo's. He shouldn't have done it in front of Shoto but he couldn't help it. "Don't overwork yourself, okay? Be sure to take long rests, so you heal faster."
"I don't need to be coddled!" Bakugo pulls his hand away.
Shoto leads him out of the bathing chambers to the doors. He pauses with his hand on the handle and says, "Izuku will sleep here tonight."
"Now you're just being an asshole," Bakugo tells him.
"It's just for tonight, and perhaps every other night after that for he is my groom and I need his services."
"Then I might just come here to sleep," Bakugo countered.
"Then be prepared to sleep on the floor like a dog. Good day,"
Bakugo was pushed out of the chamber and Shoto closed the door loudly behind him, hitting him in the ass. Bakugo toppled forward but caught himself before he fell.
'That bastard!' He growls at some passing servants who saw his stumble and they hurried off. Then, he collected himself. 'What is Shoto up to?' He wondered. 'He said I can sleep in there, too. That's unlike him.'
Enji Todoroki sits at his large office desk looking over documents while two scribes work and three more organize the bookshelf. The room was quiet save for the scratching of quills and the sliding of books; but that stopped when there came a tapping on the glass window. Enji looks at the window to see that it's one of the kingdom's messenger birds. He tells the scribe nearest to the window to open it and remove the note. The scribe does so and brings the small piece of parchment to Enji.
"My Lord, it's tied with a red thread," says the scribe, their eyes growing wide.
"That means something is amiss," Enji replies, pulling the thread away to read the small print content of the note. His heavy brows furrow. "There appears to be a large rally of revolutionists gathering near the south port," he tells the scribes. "The gentry there are requesting backup."
"The south port? But, that's a stronghold of noble houses," says one of the scribes. "How can there be that many people that can overwhelm the soldiers?"
Enji gets up from the desk. "We won't know until we assess the situation," he says. "Fetch my groom," he tells one. "Go to the barracks and let the officers there prepare a small army to move out as soon as possible." He says to another scribe. "Let Natsu know that he is to come as well, and let Shoto know that I will be gone for a bit."
"Are you sure you should go, sir?" Asks one of the scribes. "Can't we just send one of the officers instead?"
"No. This note is specifically addressed to me, which means there is something more going on than just a revolt. Make sure to tell the officers to place more guards around the castle, and post some to guard Shoto and Fuyumi."
"Wait, where are you going?"
Enji turns to see Keigo standing in the doorway with the baby. "There is trouble at the south port," he tells Keigo. "The gentry are requesting help; I need to lead a small army there to put down the revolutionists."
"Let me come with you!" Keigo asks quickly. Since he felt the pain in his bond with Dabi, and Tokoyami had that strange magic barrier in the mirror, then this sudden rise of revolutionists could be a starting point to finding his mate.
"No. You have a young child now. It's best that you stay here," Enji tells him.
"But I want to come! Please? I need a break from being 'mommy'!" He whines at Enji. "Shoto can watch my son! It'll be good practice for him! Besides, the baby needs to start separating from me a little bit, don't you agree?"
Enji frowned slightly, then nodded. "Very well. But you must be quick. Ready yourself and meet me at the barracks."
"Captain Hawks is on duty, sir!"
