The Talk

To say Percy was happy would be an understatement. A few hours ago, he was cooped up in a car, and now here he was sitting down next to his mother and father as they drank tea. Before the tea at the table, Percy's mother led him and his father around her giant silver tent, which greatly resembled his father's house. Percy tried to ask a few questions he was dying to ask his mother, but he was constantly told "soon". Now that he finally had his mother and father sitting, Percy would not take "soon" for an answer. Not even taking a sip of his tea, Percy opened his mouth to speak, but his mother put her hand up. Sighing, Percy began to fiddle with the cup of tea in front of him.

Selene knew her son was eager to know her whereabouts and everything that had happened today, but she did not feel like it was the right moment. Looking over at a moping Percy, she let out a sigh. However, it was not right to let him wait any longer, so she began, "I know you have been waiting a while to ask me where I have been or why I left, how we teleported her, and more, so I think it is about time to talk now."

Perking up upon hearing this, Percy asked, "Really?"

Selene nodded. She was happy to see her son smiling., so she wasted no time in beginning.

"As I told your father all those years ago, I could not stay for his, yours, and my safety."

"W…" Just as Percy was about to speak, his father placed a hand on his shoulder.

As his son looked back at him, John said, "Let her speak."

Nodding his head, Percy, blushing, apologized.

Selene continued, "You see, I am what you would call a goddess."

"Wait, like Jesus?" Percy exclaimed, as his eyes lit up. Suddenly, quickly realizing he had interrupted his mother once again, he calmed down and apologized once again.

Both John and Selene glanced at each other before beginning to laugh.

Confused as to why his parents found this so funny, Percy asked, "What?"

"Oh nothing," John said as he began to calm down. Wiping the tears from his eyes, he continued, "It's just that me and your mother had a little bet on what you might have said. And we were both wrong."

"We did not expect you to ask about the Lord of Christianity, but to answer your question, yes. But I am not involved with that group, but the Greek instead," Selene added.

Once his parents were done, Percy sat there as he processed what he had just been told. All he knew of was God, Jesus, Mary, the devil, and the angels, this was all due to his grandparents, as they were Roman Catholics. He was totally confused, and his mother noticed this.

"You see, Perce, there are more gods than just the one who rules over the current religions." Selene explained.

Nodding his head as he kind of understood, Percy asked, "so, you are a part of like Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades section of gods?"

"Yes."

"Oh wow... so do I have any special powers? Can I walk on water? Can I turn a bone into a human?" Percy asked as his eyes lit up once more.

Both John and Selene shook their heads at their son. They could not resist another short but quick chuckle.

"That's something we can talk about later," Selene said.

Sighing from his disappointment, Percy simply said, "okay."

"Now let us continue."

But just before Selene did continue, John excused himself as he was in desperate need of a bathroom. However, he also seemed to be a bit uncomfortable about something else.

"I'll be back in a bit, want to get a good look at these stars as well," John explained, "I'll let you two have some alone time."

"You sure, dad?" Percy asked, because he knew his father missed his mom just as much as he did.

Nodding his head, John said, "don't sweat it, Perce. I will be back in a bit." With that, John nodded his head once more before mumbling something under his breath and leaving.

"Your father and I had a little chat while you were exploring the tent, and what I was about to get into is something he disagrees with," Selene sighed, explaining what was going on before Percy said a word.

"Oh,"

"Mhm," Selene said, nodding.

There was an awkward pause between Percy and his mother for a few seconds before Percy spoke up, "so what was it?"

"Oh yes.." Selene said as she seemed to snap out of some sort of trance. Clearing her throat, she began," So, as I stated before, I am a Greek goddess. Which is why I had to leave. There are dangers that follow people like me. Dangerous things that seek to harm me and everyone I love."

"So that is why you had to leave?"

"Yes."

"Were you ever planning on coming back?" Percy asked.

Selene nodded her head in response.

"So, dad wasn't entirely lying then," Percy said with a small smile, "he just didn't know."

Raising an eyebrow, Selene asked, "What did he tell you exactly?"

"Well… he told me you would be coming back when it was my birthday. Then on my birthday, which just passed, he told me that you would never be coming back to us," Percy explained.

"Oh John," Selene chuckled, "he could never tell someone the truth if he knew it would hurt them. and oh, I almost forgot!"

Pulling out a small pure silver pouch from her pocket, Selene tossed it over to Percy.

"Happy belated birthday!" Selene smiled.

Picking up the small pouch, Percy looked up at his mother, who urged him to open it.

Pulling apart the rope that kept the pouch sealed, Percy dumped the contents onto his palm. To his surprise, out came a silver necklace with a medallion of a wolf.

"Wow, thanks mom. This looks sick!" thanked Percy as he placed it around his neck.

"You are welcome!" Selene answered, "Keep it close, and when danger comes your way, take it off and say Βάλλω."

"Βάλλω?"

"Yes," Selene responded.

"But why?" Percy asked.

Not wanting to ruin the surprise, Selene said with a grin, "You can find that out for yourself."

Sighing, Percy simply nodded his head. He knew there was no point in pushing further, so it was best to just return to their previous topic.

"Does this have anything to do with what you disagreed on dad with?" He asked.

Selene's smile dropped as she nodded her head. "Your father did not want me to give you this. But what he does not understand is the danger that I have been trying to protect you from is moving on all of us regardless of me being around. There is something brewing within my world, and I think it is best that you have that necklace plus something else."

"Okay, but why are we in danger? And what else do I need?"

Slowly shaking her head, Selene reached across the table and caressed Percy's hand. "These things are best kept a secret for now, as it is best for you to know as little as possible. You will find out in time," Selene promised. "All you need to know is that there are things in this world that live to hunt people like you and me. You will know when you see them. "

"Like monsters?"

"Exactly," Selene confirmed.

Taking a moment to process this, Percy recalled everything that his mother had said so far.

"So let me get this straight. You left me and dad to protect us from monsters that would harm us, you are a Greek goddess, you came back to us because this danger was getting worse, and this necklace is supposed to protect me from said danger?"

Selene simply nodded her head.

There was, however, one thing that bothered Percy, and that was when would his mother have returned if this danger was not so close. However, Percy knew it was best to leave this, for she was here now and that was all that truly mattered. There was no point in starting a potential argument that led to a conclusion he did not like.

"Now for something else. There is this camp that I feel would help you better than I or your dad could. This danger cannot follow you within," Selene stated. "We call it Camp Half-Blood."

"Half-Blood?"

"Half god, half human," Selene explained.

"Oh yes, of course," Percy said, as if he knew the answer all along. "And dad does not want me to go?"

Sighing, Selene said, "He thinks that this would worsen things. Would make you more of a target, and he would be right. However, things will be getting worse, and this small amount of luxury will soon die out. This camp is your best bet at staying safe."

"But will I ever see you guys again?" Percy asked. He was a bit bothered as it seemed his mother was trying to get rid of him only after coming back, but Percy did his best to hide this.

Still, Selene could see through her son, and noticed the waver in his voice. " Don't worry, of course you will," she replied with a reassuring smile," this is not some sort of isolation."

Nodding his head, Percy relaxed back into his chair. He did not really want to leave his mother and father, but it was reassuring he would still be able to see them. "So, when will I be going to this camp?"

Taking a moment to think it over, Selene said, "In a week. Gives us some time to catch up, I think."

"Well, we do have a lot to catch up on," Percy laughed.

"Indeed, we do," Selene smiled, as she rose from her chair to collect their teacups.

Not wanting to waste this chance, Percy rose from his chair as well, rushed over and embraced his mother from the side.

Surprised by the sudden hug, Selene was careful not to drop the cups. Placing them back on the table, she repositioned herself to face her son before wrapping her arms around him.

These were the moments Percy had been waiting, to sit and chat with his mom and hug her whenever he wanted to. The small amount of cold that lingered within him was instantly consumed by the warmth radiated from his mother. It was perfect and Percy did not want it to end.

"Love you mom," Percy whispered.

"Love you too," Selene cooed.

After what seemed like an eternity standing there hugging his mother, Percy stepped back before looking up at the clock. "Dad has been gone for some time, should we go and look for him?" Percy asked, concerned.

"I…," Selene was just about to answer when a loud yelping sound came from outside the tent. Both Percy's and Selene's eyes lit up as they looked over at each other. Rising from her chair, Selene grabbed a bow from under her table before motioning to Percy to grab his necklace.

"Get ready to use that," Selene commanded.

Nodding his head, Percy rushed out of the tent with his mother.

"We are coming, John."

Well, thank you for reading. I do hope you enjoyed it.
