International duty.

When the Gate to Another World opened in Japan in 2015, it was a shock to all mankind. The new world was like a fairy tale: it had other races, magic and even gods.

Japan monopolized the passage to another world, denying other countries contact with the Gates. However, many had plans for a new world, and the Russian Federation was no exception.

Russian soldiers will again have to shoulder the heavy burden of international duty, but now in another world behind the Gates...

Prologue Part 1

Russian Federation,
Test ground No. 403,
01.08.2016.

It was quiet in a well-lit corridor, and only a rare cracking of lamps violated the silence of this place. The corridor itself was of a very typical type for underground structures of the time of the now defunct Soviet Union: a not too wide passage, half-painted in green oil paint walls and a low ceiling with various pipes and ventilation on it.

Somewhere, as if in the distance, a massive door clapped, judging by the sound. In a dozen seconds, another one. And so, the heavy steel door leading into this corridor opens, and because of it, a low fat person comes out in a quick step. He takes several steps along the corridor, and behind him, an armored hermetic door slams with the efforts of an automatic finisher, from which the man once again shudders.

The man headed to the opposite side of the corridor, where there was the last door in this maze of tunnels and office space pressing with its heavy atmosphere.

From sticky fear — fear of the unknown, fear of responsibility and fear for his career and life — even general epaulettes did not save, so the person's face and body were covered in sweat, he often breathed and mentally cursed everything in the world, while persistently continuing to move towards his goal.

Stopping a few steps in front of the next door, above which hung a shabby sign, which read in a dry incomprehensible language of abbreviations: "Зам. нач. по ОБР исп. компл. №403/ДК-11", the general finally plunged into his thoughts, trying to collect them in a pile more densely. Not noticing this, the general rested his eyes empty on the chest of an FSO* officer, who was on duty at the cherished door.

The combination of a close look and the dissatisfied puffing of a representative of the Ministry of Defense in a high rank made even a lieutenant of the Federal Protective Service stir up, because of which he squeezed his AK-105 in his hands and began to secretly look at himself, trying to see a misstep that could anger the general of one of the most powerful organization in the world.

Sighing and quietly cursing, the general took his eyes away from the already nervous lieutenant. Having corrected his tie and peaked cap, he knocked and went into the guarded office.

— ...And you want to say that you inform the army about it at the last moment?! Y-you!.. — From the fear of the general there is no trace: he was washed away, leaving only indignation and anger. And now the general was hanging over a calm thin man sitting at a table in a black overcoat without identification marks.

— Don't be nervous, comrade Shashkin. This is due to the highest level of secrecy: we could not attract too many unverified and not specialized persons to this project. In addition, we were quite able to do it on our own. — A calm and emotionless voice, together with a piercing cold look of blue eyes, produced the desired effect, moderating the fervor of the general.

— That is, the army for you — unverified persons, and the VV-troops* — verified? These are yesterday's cops: half are bribe takers, and the other are those who were not allowed to us! But we!.. — However, until the end the general did not calm down, and with his monologue only again incited righteous indignation in himself.

— You, comrade Shashkin, are very mistaken. Here most of the contingent are employees of the FSO and the FSB. Rosgvard* performs the function of protecting the outer perimeter, and when the project is operational, they will form the basis of our forces.

— Why are they? Amateurs! Cops, riot police or PPS* — they are anyone, but not soldiers! They can't replace the army!

The general, who had already gained air in the lungs for continuation, looked at the cold and indifferent look of the interlocutor, who expressed absolute indifference to the opinion of the old officer. As if aged for a dozen years, the representative of the Ministry of Defense, breathing deeply and wiping sweat from his forehead, sat on a stool standing next to him.

— Of course, comrade Shashkin, the internal troops are not able to fully carry out the tasks facing the regular army. But you understand — we cannot use a large enough military force for this project. You know why? Because the sudden disappearance of several thousand soldiers is at least suspicious. And our army is being monitored. Closely monitored. And this will not go unnoticed. Given what happens, we have no right to attract the attention of our... "Western Partners". — The general grinned, and in the habit tried to lean on the back of the chair, which is why he almost fell off the stool.

— You want to say that the loss of a couple thousand soldiers, who could simply be sent to serve deep in Siberia, will attract all the world's attention, and the disappearance of employees of the most important internal departments will not be noticed? Some kind of nonsense.

— No, it is quite logical that the Rosgvard is not closely monitored, and they simply cannot establish a full-fledged and reliable tracking system for the FSB and the FSO. Our specialists are also trying.

— All right, damn it... But since you're doing so well without us, why even call me out? What do you want from us?

— Warn. I want to warn you. Our project is extremely important and promising, but it is also very... Unpredictable. So then maybe we need your help. — The man leaned on the back of the chair and waited for the answer of the general, who, with an ironic smile, stared at the interlocutor.

— Huh, that's how it is! You're the master of how to create some kind of crap, and how to fix the consequences is you call the army. Nothing changes! But can you at least give us something more concrete that we should expect? — Apparently, having come to terms with what was happening, the general decided to approach the matter from the point of view of the effective fulfillment of the task.

— No specifics — we know little ourselves. But just be ready, and about any strange incidents, anomalies and other heresy, immediately inform us, no matter how absurd the situation seems to you. Did you understand, general?

— Understood. Is that all? Can I go? — The general asked, getting up from the stool.

— Go, comrade Shashkin, go…

— How long before activation? — The man in the overcoat stood in a small room filled with various techniques and electronics.

A large frame with a thick armored glass was mounted in one of the walls of the room, behind which there was an extensive platform, probably the size of a whole aircraft hangar. The site had many people and equipment, both scientific and military, a pair of BTR-80 and a cordon from FSO Spetsnaz around the perimeter.

In the center of the "hangar", as if a large mercury spot, was a metal platform with a diameter of twenty meters, inside of which were directed arcs of steel, entangled with wires, thick cables and various devices.

— Mm-hmm? Oh, sorry, I was thinking... — A scientist with thick lenses of glasses glittering in light of old lamps turned towards the man in the shinel. — Yes, the MPL* will be activated in full — in two minutes and fourteen... In thirteen seconds, according to our order. As you already know, we received confirmation of the operation from your agent, now it is only left to run the installation at the specified time.

— Then we wait. — The man answered and turned away to the window, folding his hands behind his back.

Minute before activation. — announced a mechanical voice from a loudspeaker and a silence for a while. However, now everything has stopped - the tension in the walls of this complex has grown with every moment. — Ten seconds. Nine. Eight... ATTENTION! Three. Two. One...

— Well, God for us!

Start MPL!
