I had been sitting in the same spot for nearly an hour now. Alice couldn't decide what to dress me in for my first day of school. She was pacing the room – already in a ridiculously expensive-looking outfit. She has put me in six different outfits. I was trying to remain patient, but at this point I'd rather just wear sweat pants, a hoodie and call it a day. If she didn't decide on something soon, we would be late.
Jasper and Edward where already in the Volvo, waiting on us.
"You know Bella, if you have a certain style in mind, it would help me pick something out for you." Alice said with a pout.
"Anything will be perfectly fine Alice," I said with a weak smile. "I don't really have a certain style."
Alice held up two outfits. "I've narrowed it down to these two. At least tell me if there is one you would rather wear."
The first outfit was a grey long sleeve, plush-knit tunic with black skinny jeans. The second outfit was a soft white sweater with grey leggings and a wool cashmere wrap.
"I guess this outfit is okay." I said pointing towards the grey tunic. It looked incredibly comfortable. It wasn't too over the top, so I wouldn't have to worry about bringing any unwanted attention. Next to Alice – I might as well be invisible.
Alice beamed in delight. "Finally, now we are getting somewhere, you go ahead and get dressed. I'll find some shoes to go with the outfit." She tossed the clothes at me as she went back into the closet.
"Alice, I have a question." I said as I began to get dressed.
"I may have an answer." She replied from inside the closet.
"What was in your vision earlier?"
There was a brief pause – then a quiet sigh. "Don't worry about it. Please trust me, Bella."
"I want you to trust me too Alice, I know that you and Edward are keeping this a big secret. I just don't understand why."
"I do trust you," Alice now walked back in with a pair of stylish knee-high winter boots – it matched the outfit perfectly. "I just wanted to wait until Carlisle, Esme and Rose made it back home, before addressing the vision."
It was clear that Alice wasn't budging on this decision. I'd probably have better luck pulling information out of Edward. I let the conversation drop. At least Alice as finally finished dressing me. We could get going towards the school. It had taken nearly an hour, but my hair was curled in gentle ringlets, I had a bit of makeup on and with this outfit – I actually looked like I belonged with the others.
Alice and I walked at a human pace down the stairs as she reminded me of a few things to keep in mind. "Now remember, slouch when you sit, breathe often and keep your distance from the students – avoid physical touching, like handshakes."
"I think I can manage all of that."
"I know you can. But if you ever feel like you can't take it, just head out to the Volvo and I'll be there." She spoke with a bubbly smile on her face. I wasn't sure who was more excited about this, Alice or me. I've never really been one to look forward to school, but things were different. I had an infinite amount of time on my hands and the last few months have been great, but I wanted to be back in society. I wanted to feel human again – if school was the answer, I was looking forward to getting back to it.
Edward was waiting at the passenger side door – he opened it as Alice and I approached. He eyed me with an amused look on his face. Without even saying a word, I knew that he had noticed what I was wearing – and knew this wasn't anything close to what I would have picked out for myself.
"You look beautiful, as always." He said as I took my seat in the front. He closed the door behind me and was in the driver's seat in half a second.
"Thanks," I said with a ruefully. "You don't look too bad yourself."
Edward was wearing a long sleeve; navy polo, jeans and a grey pea coat. He was dazzling. Completely perfect in every way. I still couldn't fathom the thought of him having feelings for me. I had to be the luckiest girl in Forks.
Now as we drove through the sleepy town of Forks, I thought back to Rene and Charlie. I'm sure if they were still alive, this is what they would have wanted for me. They would want me to complete high school. I wished they were here to see it. I was beginning to forget my mother's voice. Although my sorrow was fading from their unfortunate deaths – I wanted to remember them. I wanted to always know who my parents were. If anything, I have their photos – maybe that would suffice.
Edward lightly took my hand in his – as if sensing my distress. I looked over to him – taking his tense expression. His lips were pressed together in a hard line. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "Nothing I care to talk about at the moment."
Edward groaned. "It drives me insane, not knowing what's going on in your mind. I'd almost venture to say it's unfair."
"Well, you and Alice aren't the only ones that can keep secret." I said turning away from him to silently pout. I knew I was being a bit childish, but like Edward – being kept in the dark was driving me crazy as well.
I felt a wave of calmness bounce against me. Jasper's ability was hard to ignore. My body visible relaxed, the frown slid from my face as I turned back to Edward. His topaz eyes were locked onto me – I could see the conflict on his face. He had an internal struggle. I instantly felt bad for causing him any discomfort.
With a soft squeeze on his hand, I offered him a smile. "I was thinking about Rene and Charlie."
This seemed to snap Edward out of his inner turmoil. Relief appeared for a second, before concern. "Are you missing them?"
"I do, every day. But today – particularly more than usual. I'm having trouble remembering their voices. It's... disturbing." I admitted.
"I've also forgotten my parent's voices. I'm only left with a blurry image of my mother's face. It used to bother me as well, but I've come to accept it. I at least have a few pieces of her memory." Edward said with a light sigh. "I am sorry you're going through this." His words offered me some comfort.
"I'm just glad you are here."
"Forever, or until you tell me to leave." He said with a crooked smile.
The thought of me ever casting Edward aside was laughable. It just wasn't going to happen.
In no time at all we made it to Forks high school. Edward whipped his Volvo into a parking spot, closest towards the entrance of the building. Everyone's eyes now were on me.
"Are you sure you have hunted enough for this?" Jasper asked, taking note of my eyes and facial features. I could see that he was concerned, but I had confidence that I could deal with this. I've already proven myself in many of his tests.
"Of course, I will be perfectly fine." I said exchanging looks with Alice and Edward. "And I'm sure if something was to happen, Alice would see it and stop anything from happening."
Alice smiled brightly. "That's right, I have your back."
"Alright, but what story are we going with here? She can't be introduced as Isabella Swan. Because that person no longer exists." Jasper said folding his arms across his chest.
That's right, the people of Forks believe that the police chief, along with ex-wife and their teenage daughter perished in the middle of the woods. A fire had blasted through their campsite, no survivors. Carlisle had filled out the reports, ending my life completely. Emmett had gone back to the campsite and set fire to the place the bear attack happened, to make the story believable to the police as well.
The town held a memorial for Charlie and even added three gravestones to the Forks cemetery in honor of him and his family. He was a beloved police chief to this town.
Carlisle made no mention of Phil's demise – which I hoped wouldn't cause any concerns or questions from Phil's remaining family. I wasn't sure how we would deal with that situation. For the time being Alice was keeping her eyes on what the future holds.
"Well, she would have to be some kind of relation to us. She can't be a Cullen, not while openly dating Edward, after all." Alice said with a puzzled look.
Edward, Alice and Emmett were the Cullens, while Rose and Jasper were the Hales. I wasn't sure if I would make a believable Hale – I didn't share their blonde hair. Jasper and Rose didn't look anything alike, but everyone assumed easily that they were siblings because of their hair.
"She could be a Hale, we could just say that she takes after her father, while Jasper and Rose take after their mother." Edward said with a slight smile. "Plus, I'm sure Jasper will be hovering over her a lot today. I'm sure it will make the story more believable."
Jasper simply nodded, keeping a serious look on his face.
"Should we change her first name as well?" Alice asked with an excited smile. "It may be suspicious that Forks is getting another Isabella."
"It wouldn't be a bad idea, what do you think love?" Edward looked to me – lightly moving a strand of hair from my face. "Do you have another name you could use?"
"I guess I could go by my middle name, Marie." I said after a slight pause. I wasn't the biggest fan of my middle name, but if I couldn't go by my own while I was at school it would have to do.
"Marie Hale, I like it." Alice said bouncing in her seat. "Let's get you inside and set up to start your classes, Marie."
"Alright, I'm ready." I nodded.
The four of us all exited the car at the same time. The second I was out in the open, my throat began to burn. There were students everywhere and they all seemed to stop in their tracks as we all walked towards the school. I already had a feeling that there was going to be a lot of staring, but nothing could prepare myself for all the whispers and gossip already beginning. I was beginning to feel self-conscious as I was scrutinized.
"Great, another gorgeous Cullen girl, dressed like she is about to walk down the run-way. All the boys are going to be drooling over her." A girl was whispering to herself from the other end of the parking lot.
"Who is that, she is seriously hot. Maybe I should introduce myself." A boy muttered to his friend. They stood off in the distance by a decerped van, parked across from the Volvo.
Edward now wrapped his arm casually around my shoulders, bringing me close to his side. I felt much better, almost instantly. A smirk was on his face, he was planning something. I could feel it.
The whispering intensified around us. Most of the girls in the parking lot were horrified and outraged. While the boys appeared to have a sudden drop in self-esteem.
"Please tell me that she is just... his sister... a really close sister." A girl muttered to her friend. Her tone sounded glum.
"I don't think so, it's obvious that they are dating. Can't you see the chemistry between them?" The friend replied, sounding just as disappointed as the other girl.
Edward stopped us for just a second, letting Alice and Jasper continue to walk forward – hand in hand. I looked up at him curiously, meeting his gaze. His arm slid down around my waist as he leaned down and gently pressed his lips to mine.
I was surprised, but delighted to lean up and kiss him back. The kiss only lasted a second, but the response that it brought out of the students watching – was immediate and hilarious.
"You have to be kidding, she is already taken. There is not a chance in hell for us now." A boy muttered to the three others with him. They were standing at the entrance of the building. I could see the despair on their faces.
A few girls nearby groaned, a couple of them throwing glares in my direction. I did my best to ignore their petty remarks and jealous rants about how unfair life was. I peeked over to Edward, he seemed content and amused by this situation. Of course, he was probably getting bombarded with the thoughts of everyone around.
"I thought you wanted to blend in, I think that kiss might have gotten the whole student bodies attention." I leaned up to whisper in his ear.
He chuckled in response. "It was necessary,"
"Why was is necessary?"
"I wanted to make it clear – that you are mine," he said leaving a few kisses down my neck. "It's best to crush the spirit of any male rivals before it becomes a problem."
I couldn't help but laugh, enjoying Edward's public display. I liked seeing him act this way. It wasn't rare seeing him overly protective, but this was something else. It's like he wanted the world to know that we were together. I had no complaints.
Alice and Jasper were waiting inside the office for us. Alice and Edward exchanged smug looks – as if they were having a private conversation. Jasper on the other hand was watching me intently – as if ready to pounce on me the second that I lost control.
I had to admit, being inside the office was a lot more painful than being outside. The office was small; a little waiting area with padded folding chairs, orange-flecked commercial carpet, notices and awards cluttering the walls, a big clock ticking loudly. Plants grew everywhere in large plastic pots. The room was cut in half by a long counter, cluttered with wire baskets full of papers and brightly colored flyers taped to its front. There were three desks behind the counter, one of which was manned by a large, red-haired woman wearing glasses. She was wearing a purple t-shirt, which immediately made me feel overdressed.
The red-haired woman looked up, instantly her cheeks flushed. "Can I help you?" She had obviously noticed how good-looking Edward and Jasper was. Her eyes only seemed to be darting between the two of them.
"I'm Marie Hale," I cleared my throat to bring her attention to me.
"We sent in all the paperwork for her to start classes last week." Alice said with a convincing smile.
"Oh..." She dug through a precariously stacked pile of documents on her desk, but didn't appear to find what she was looking for. "I'm sorry, I don't have any documentation of having a new student join us today."
"That's odd, Carlisle said that he finished and turned in everything."
At the mention of Carlisle, the woman's demeanor changed. Her face became even more red and she quickly was gathering papers and scrambling around the office. "Of course, the wonderful doctor Carlisle is such a busy man, I'll get everything sorted don't worry about a thing, just give me a few minutes to get everything in order."
The change in her heart-beat was noticeable and all the extra blood flow to her face had me in agony. But I didn't make any indication that this was painful. I knew if I did – Jasper might decide this is too much for me and force me to leave. I could ignore the pain, instead I focused on Edward's hand rubbing circles against my back.
"If it isn't too much of a bother, could you have Marie scheduled to be with one of us, for each class? She is a very shy girl and I'd prefer one of us stayed with her at all times." Jasper said moving forward, making intense eye contact with the woman.
The woman stared at him for a moment, captivated by him, before stumbling over her words. "O-of course, I'll d-do my best to m-make that happen."
It took nearly half an hour to make all the arrangements, but the four of us left the office satisfied. My first three classes, history, Spanish and gym would be with Alice, the next two was trigonometry and public speaking, would be with Jasper and the final three, biology, economics and independent study, would be with Edward.
The woman went through my classes for me, highlighting the best route to each on the map, and gave me a slip to have each teacher sign, which I was to bring back at the end of the day. She was still nervous and jittery when we left to our classes. It was comical. But soon there were a sea of new faces surrounding me. My throat was burning, my mouth was filling with venom. I kept myself calm and under control.
"Are you sure, that you are going to be alright?" Edward asked pausing outside of the door to my first class. Alice was hanging at my side as well – but she had a look of complete confidence. It was comforting to know that she trusted that I could do this.
"I'll be perfectly fine." I gave him a weak smile.
He pulled me in for a soft embrace and gentle peck on the forehead, before slowly walking away from Alice and I. It was hard watching him go. I felt alone when I wasn't with him. But with Alice here, it wouldn't be so bad. For some reason, I didn't find myself getting nervous. When I was human, these kinds of situation always made me anxious. But it didn't seem that big of a deal to me anymore.
The classroom was small. The people in front of us stopped just inside the door to hang up their coats on a long row of hooks. I went to copy them, but Alice stopped me. "Come on Marie – how long did it take us to pick that outfit, let's not ruin this fashionable look." She said with a grin, before walking to her seat.
I sighed, but followed Alice's request. They were two girls, one a porcelain-colored blonde, the other also pale, with light brown hair. Unfortunately, my skin was much paler, almost to the point that it made me stand out. Although, no one seemed to be paying much attention to my skin.
I took the slip up to the teacher, a tall, balding man whose desk had a nameplate identifying him as Mr. Veronesi. He gawked at me when he saw my name - not an encouraging response. "Another Hale, isn't that something. It's a pleasure." His smile was a bit too friendly, his eyes darted up and down my body.
Disgusting. I wanted to gag, but remained neutral. "Thanks, where should I sit?" I asked politely.
"There is an open seat in the back." He commented as he handed me a few books and a few folds – filled with papers.
I spun on my heel and attempted to walk at a slow pace to the very back of the room. I didn't want to accidentally move to quick and bring more attention to myself. Only a few students were watching me intently right now. It was harder for my new classmates to stare at me in the back, but somehow, they managed. I kept my eyes down on the materials the teacher had given me.
Alice was only a few seats away, which was comforting. I did my best to pay attention during the lecture, but Mr. Veronesi didn't make it easy. His continuous sly winks and flirtatious comments he muttered when he passed my desk left me feeling uncomfortable. If I wanted, I could end his life with the flick of my wrist. Of course, I would never do something like that. But this was so unprofessional and not to mention creepy. I wasn't afraid of him, but I was concerned for the other female students in the room.
Was I the only one noticing his behavior? Was my mind just planning tricks on me? I would be sure to ask Alice about this later. In my opinion, he isn't fit to be a teacher.
The rest of the day seemed to be more of the same. No one asked me to stand in front of the class and introduce myself – to my relief. Although there was a lot of whispering and staring. I did my very best to ignore it all. Most of it was ridiculous anyway. But I found myself distracted with the burning in my throat. I felt a bit thirsty, but I was managing myself well. It was challenging, but the others were close by to keep me in check.
It was the last class before lunch – public speaking, Jasper was seated in the back with me. He never took his eyes off me for the entire class. Understandably. But wasn't the only one. There was also a boy in the class that kept staring as well. When the bell rang, a nasal buzzing sound, the gangly boy with skin problems and hair black as an oil slick leaned across the aisle to talk to me. He was the first of anyone to dare talk with to me.
"You're Marie Hale, aren't you?" He looked like the overly helpful, chess club type.
"Um, yes I am." I said quietly.
Everyone within a three-seat radius turned to look at me.
Everyone was making their way out of the classroom, although I noticed a few were lingering behind to listen in to our conversation. Jasper and I stood from our seats, but the boy blocked our way out.
"I'm Eric, nice to meet you, I didn't know Jasper had another sister. Where did you come from?"
We never did talk about what my backstory was. I glanced towards Jasper for half a second, before thinking up something believable. "I used to live in Arizona, with my grandfather – but when he passed away, I came here to Forks to live with the rest of my family."
Bringing up death usually changed a topic quickly. I hoped that this would prevent Eric from asking anything further questions.
His expression turned apologetic. "Sorry to hear that, how are you liking Forks so far?"
I can't believe he was still asking questions. Maybe I was being too polite. I really don't want to bring any further attention to myself.
I turned my head, not making eye contact – I tried to convey disinterest and annoyance. "It's fine,"
"Glad to hear it. Look I just wanted to give this to you." He sheepishly handed me a flyer. "We are having a snowball dance in a couple weeks. It would be awesome for you to come."
I looked down at the flyer, it was bright, colorful and coated in glitter. It signified that it would take place in the gym, two weeks from now. I never really was a fan of dances when I was human. I'm not sure if it would be any better now. Thankfully Edward made an appearance, striding into the room with a smug grin on his face. He made his way to my side and wrapped an arm around my waist.
"Are you ready for lunch?" He asked leaning in to peck my cheek.
At the mention of lunch, I felt a prickle of heat rush to my throat. I nodded to him, pulling a smile to my face.
Eric stared between Edward and I with his mouth hanging open. Surprise and embarrassment covered his face. I wasn't sure what brought on his response, but Jasper appeared just as amused as Edward was.
"Eric was just letting Marie know about the school dance. Looks like fun." Jasper stated, exchanging a look with Edward.
"Y-yeah that's right. Just spreading the word. I of course wasn't trying to ask her to go... w-with me. She is clearly with y-you. I'll just... be on my way now. N-nice talking with you Marie." Eric said giving me a nervous wave before turning and practically running from the room.
Jasper and Edward snickered as we walked out of the room. Alice was waiting for the three of us by my locker. She was laughing as well; she probably had a vision of this happening.
"You're truly mean, poor Eric." Alice snorted, throwing a grin in Edward's direction. "You had to go in there and ruin his dreams of dancing with Bella in his arms."
I raised a brow. "Is that what he was trying to achieve? He was going to ask me to go with him, to the dance?"
"Couldn't you tell? The desperation was falling off him in waves. It was truly pitiful." Jasper smirked, keeping his arm around Alice.
I turned to Edward – taking note of his expression. He didn't appear bothered at all. He didn't feel threatened by Eric; and he shouldn't. "Well now I feel bad. I could have at least humored him."
Edward raised a brow. "Are you interested in attending this dance?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "I really haven't been to very many dances. I've never really had anyone to go with."
Alice seemed excited by this. "We have to go; it would be so much fun. We can go dress shopping, go out to get your nails done and hair, there is so much we could do."
Suddenly this dance seemed less appealing, but now I knew that Alice would talk me into it, with the help of Jasper manipulating my emotions. And then there was Edward, the thought of him in a suit... I felt myself melting. He would be dazzling.
Edward lifted my hand to press it to his lips. "It would be an honor, to escort you to the snowball dance. What do you say?" He asked with a crooked smile.
I felt a spring in my chest as I peered into his topaz eyes. "Alright, sounds good to me. But just to let you know, I'm awful at dancing."
The four of us entered the cafeteria together – but I wasn't sure how long I could manage staying here. There were so many students in this tiny room, I could hear their heart beats, the scent of blood in this room was overwhelming. The pain reminded me of the early days of my transformation. When I was just lying there, in agony. My body was frozen in the entrance.
Jasper quickly was next to me, sending me waves of calmness. It helped keep me focused. I held my breath, but I couldn't manage to pull my eyes off of the necks of everyone that passed us by.
"She isn't ready." Jasper muttered quietly towards Edward and Alice.
"Let the choice be up to her. She knows herself better than any of us." Edward spoke quietly with a hard look at Jasper.
"I haven't seen any visions of her hurting anyone today. I think she handle this. Let's put some faith in her." Alice said with a tight smile. I could see that even she was having her doubts.
I turned around sharply and walked out of the cafeteria. I had to get some distance from all the temptations. I felt Edward close behind me – Alice and Jasper stayed behind, probably heading into the cafeteria. I felt embarrassed that I couldn't do something so simple. I still couldn't manage big crowds for very long. I didn't stop walking until I made it outside – to the parking lot so I could take a big breath of fresh air. I was relieved that the burning in my throat became more manageable.
Edward took one of my hands – that were balled up into fists at my sides. "Bella, it's alright, it gets easier over time."
I sighed, trying to relax my body. "I just really thought I would be ready for this." Edward was watching me intensely, a small smile on his face as he lightly stroked my cheek.
"You don't even realize how much strength it took for you to turn around and decide to not risk the safety of others. You did the right thing. I'm proud of you."
His words did cheer me up, but there was still a part of me that was so disappointed. Today was supposed to be a normal day, I would get to act like I was still human. But I couldn't even manage that.
"Maybe you're right, but now that we are out here... what do we do now?" I asked looking around the parking lot. No one was out here, but I could still hear the buzz of hundreds of student voices inside the building. I tried to tune it out and focus.
"Are you up for continuing the rest of the day? Or did you want to go home and do a little hunting?"
"I think I should at least make it for a whole day of school. I wouldn't be right to ditch on my first day." I chuckled.
"I suppose you and I could just take a little walk until the next class starts." Edward gestured towards the forest that sat quietly behind the school. It wasn't a very thick forest, but it would get the smell of human blood even further away from me.
"Lead the way."
Edward and I walked hand in hand towards the woods. We started out in a very human pace, but once we were out of sight we went racing through the woods. We spent the time just talking about how our day went so far. It was like we were in our own world. I was able to think more clearly now, so there were a few things I wanted to ask him.
But Edward knew exactly how to keep me distracted, his lips were running down my neck. His hands were on my waist. We breathlessly began to kiss. I felt my back hit the trunk of a tree. The force and passion growing between us had me getting more and more aroused. Edward seemed to be losing a bit of self-control himself, I felt his hips pressing into mine, pinning me to the tree.
I hadn't noticed that something was approaching us at an incredible speed, not until Edward quickly spun around, crouching into a protective stance in front of me. I was so surprised by the speed that I jumped a bit. And right before my eyes a huge wolf came barreling towards us.
I made a face – confused as to why a wild animal would attempt to attack one of us. Of all the hunting trips I've been on, an animal never came after one of us. But my confusion only intensified as Edward straightened his posture and approached the wolf cautiously.
"Sam, what is it? What are you doing here?"
Was he seriously talking to that animal?
As if like magic I watched in horror as the wolf phased into a very naked, man. I turned away quickly, adverting my eyes. But it was hard for me to do so. I could barely believe what I had just seen.
"I couldn't get in contact with Carlisle," The man spoke calmly. "There were three blood-suckers that crossed over the boundary. Are they friends of you Cullens."
There were more vampires in town?
"No, they aren't friends of ours. They have been causing trouble around Forks, there has been a few casualties." Edward said with a tense look on his face. His eyes flashed towards me for a moment. I could tell that he was reluctant to talk about this.
I wonder if this is what he and Alice were hiding.
"Well, we will keep our eyes out for them..." The man paused. "I see you have a new addition to your... clan."
I glanced over to him, relieved to see that he had covered his lower body with an old, ripped up pair of ball shorts. He had an intense presence, standing so tall and with authority. His skin was sun-kissed and his hair and eyes were a dark brown. A tribal tattoo was on his shoulder.
"Bella," I said.
He raised a brow, looking closely at me. "I'm Sam Uley," He hesitantly glanced between Edward and I, before resting his gaze on me. "You wouldn't happen to be... Charlie's daughter."
"You knew my dad?"
"Yeah, he would come to the reservation to hunt and fish on occasion. I'm... sorry for your loss." Sam replied without emotion. "Although I'm sure he wouldn't want to see you in this... state..."
I felt a glare come to my face now.
This guy was a complete jerk. Weird wolfman.
"You may be right, although I'm sure he would be more horrified if I turned into a big dog." I folded my arms across my chest and turned myself away. I was finished with this jerk. I had nothing further to say to him.
Sam snorted in response, before turning fully back to Edward. "I'll want details on how Charlie Swan's daughter was turned and why. This goes against our treaty. I'll stop over at our usual meeting spot later this evening."
Edward nodded, not showing much interest in what Sam was saying. Instead, his kept peeking over to me. I got the feeling that he was worried about how I was taking all this. "Fine, I'll be sure that Carlisle will be present."
With that exchange Sam turned into a wolf right before my eyes. I couldn't help but gasp. He turned his back to us and went running away, just as fast as he had arrived, he was gone. We stood there in silence for a while. Neither one of us knew what to say. At least that's how I felt in this moment.
I had been wondering what Edward and Alice was hiding. I wonder if it had to do with these three vampires that Sam had mentioned. There were three vampires in Forks... killing innocent people. It was awful, it was scary. But why didn't they tell me about it? There has to be something more to this. I wasn't sure how willing Edward was going to be to tell me anything further. All I knew was that we needed to have a serious discussion about all of this.
