Hermione hated surprises. She hated them with a passion. She was a planner, someone who had to know every detail about what was going on, how things worked, why they were the way they were. So, as you can imagine when she found out she was a witch she did a deep dive into the world to find out every possible thing she, legally and sometimes illegally, could do.

But this, this wasn't in any book, there was nothing that could prepare her for the societal differences between Muggleborns and Purebloods, hell the differences between Muggleborns and Halfbloods and Halfbloods and Purebloods. She hadn't even known it was really a thing until the first time a teacher told her how well she was doing, for a Muggleborn that was. That was when she realised, she and her counterparts were viewed differently.

In even with a war looming, one that stemmed purely on blood prejudice, the idea of stolen magic and forgot traditions, no one, not one professor, headmaster, any adult thought to suggest, maybe, just maybe, instead of just having Muggle Studies, which was terribly outdated and inaccurate anyway, that we also have for lack of better term, Pureblood Studies.

Imagine the good that might have done, to have a class for Muggleborn students to learn about the culture and ancient traditions of the wizarding world. Yes, they studied history but that was of battles and historical figures, they never touched on the values ancient families held. She understood that, yes perhaps some of them would be horrific and that part of the reason this was probably never written down was due to the fear of "stolen magic". But perhaps if we taught students about the culture they were now to become a part of, they wouldn't offend those who had known their whole lives this was who they were.

And that is how she found herself in the Headmistress' office the Friday before her 19th birthday.

"I am just suggesting that perhaps an update to the curriculum would be beneficial to all."

"Miss Granger, I understand what you are saying but please think for a moment how it may look if the first year after the war I introduce 'Pureblood Studies' when we all just fought to irradicate the prejudice that it lead to."

"Well maybe if we had an accurate Muggles studies class that doesn't make non-magic folk out to be either complete idiots or a threat and this type of class originally there wouldn't have been a war!. So don't call it 'Pureblood Studies', we call it 'Cultural Studies', we make it so every Muggleborn stands a chance of understanding this world a little better. I don't want another student to feel as foolish as I currently feel trying to navigate this new road with Theodore Nott. I don't want any wealthy Halfbloods accidently betrothing themselves to a Pureblood because they don't know the etiquette. I don't want another child to come in here at 11 when you track magical signatures SINCE BIRTH and have their whole world turned upside down and next to no help navigating it. Oh congratulations you're a witch, no your family can't tell anyone, no if you fall in love with a Muggle you can't tell him either until your married by which point they may feel utterly betrayed, oh and by the way, most your classmates will have known who and what they are since they were born and will probably think less of you, albeit most subconsciously."

There were sparks coming from her hair by the time she stopped to take a breath.

"Are you done Miss Granger?"

"Yes Headmistress"

McGonagall removed her glasses and pinched the bridge of her nose.

"You are not wrong Miss Granger and I do see your need for this class. But the school year has already commenced, we have no teacher, no curriculum and no way to get the school board approval for it to be an, official, class. Do you understand what I am saying?"

Hermione paused, puzzled for a moment and then it came to her.

"Headmistress I would like to seek permission to form a new student run program."

McGonagall smiled at her, "Agreed Miss Granger, I take it you have someone in mind to run said program with you."

"I do"

"At whilst I understand the need for this class, can we agree that perhaps, for now, the program stays between the upperclassmen, perhaps focusing on etiquette and courting traditions for now."

"Agreed Professor, thank you!"

Now all Hermione had to do was get Astoria to agree to run it with her.
