Mission P.S.

Chapter 2

Just like the sun shined in Queens, it had graced upstate New York with the same courtesy, making the grass seem shinier at Avengers Compound. A place that was filled with energy and spirit, while each person walked through its ground with a purpose, seeing how the Avengers Compound was a place of business and national security.

Like other buildings Tony Stark was behind, the facade was clean and smooth, and looked straight up like something from the future. It had once been a warehouse for Stark Industries, but after the attack from outer space on Manhattan, Tony had moved the whole thing upstate, and rebuilt Stark Tower in Manhattan.

Although Tony was starting to regret ever saying yes to being a part of the Avengers. He did not regret funding the project, but as he stared at the inviting garden outside, he did regret participating as an Avenger. Because being an Avenger meant saving the world twice, followed by countless useless uninformative meetings, held by the holy Captain America.

Sitting in a meeting room, he began to envy Bruce, Clint, and Rhodey. While Clint still was active, he was an expert at dodging meetings like these, claiming family came first, which a man like Steve Roger couldn't disagree with. While Bruce had completely disappeared and therefore didn't attend these meetings either, making Tony wonder if it would be possible for him to disappear as well, perhaps in his lab. And Rhodey was lucky enough to work for the government as well, meaning he probably was caught in another meeting.

Tony didn't even listen anymore, while Steve went on about their latest mission, which Tony hadn't attended. He kept talking about how they as a team could improve, what went wrong, while at the same time trying to keep the spirit up by praising each individual. Sam Wilson, also known as the Falcon, was listening intensely to what Steve was saying, along with Vision. But Vision listened to everything with the same kind of intensity, while Sam was too loyal not to listen.

And Wanda. Well, Wanda was still new, and eagerly trying to learn and fit in. Not to mention Tony was positively sure Vision and Wanda had a crush on each other, meaning if Vision listened so did Wanda, and so on. Tony wasn't even sure Vision was capable of having a crush, but he was in new territory when it came to this guy.

The only one who seemed slightly bored like himself was Natasha, but to be fair she was difficult to read, and so Tony could never be sure whether she was bored, or just pretended while gathering intel on everyone.

But as her piercing green eyes suddenly stared at him, Tony felt himself wake up ever so slightly, as he just seconds later realized everyone was looking at him.

"Yeah, really great effort by everyone!" he said spontaneously, hoping this was some sort of circle where everyone had to say something positive. But deep down he knew it wasn't, and so he might as well mock the situation while he had a chance, and judging by Steve's face, he succeeded.

"I asked if you had any news regarding Bruce?" Steve asked, repeating his question, and Tony swore he looked slightly annoyed for just a second.

Bruce had disappeared after the battle against Ultron in Sokovia, being as kind as to take the Quinjet with him, meaning Tony had to design a new one. Although that was the least of their problems, seeing how worried everyone was about Bruce, as he hadn't tried to contact any of them, and Tony couldn't track him.

"Nope… still can't track him, as he turned that off. I know as little as you guys," Tony said honestly, and leaned back in his chair, noting how Natasha's expression seemed sad. But it was gone before Tony could confirm anything. "But like are we done here for today, or is there more that requires my attention?" Tony then questioned, wanting to get the topic away from Bruce. He knew his teammates were worried for the green guy, but Tony knew he could take care of himself. "I mean, I do have a company besides this," he added, although that was partly a lie. Tony didn't do much in Stark Industries any longer, as Pepper handled everything, while he just worked on his lap. Giving the world a new phone a tablet once in a while, to satisfy their needs.

"Of course, we are almost done, Tony. I just have one last agenda on the list, which I believe we might need your help for," Steve said with a smile, his voice as always clam and soft. Tony couldn't believe he had waited to talk about the thing that involved him until now, as he could have been back to Manhattan, had he started with this.

"What now… did any of you break your suits or something?" Tony asked, staring at everyone, trying to guess who had broken something.

"No. But I have been in contact with Fury, who gave orders…" Steve began, but Tony interrupted him before he could finish.

"I am just going to stop your right there! Are we still listening to Fury's orders? I mean, that guy is not head of anything anymore, seeing how S.H.I.E.L.D was taken over by Hydra," Tony reminded all of them. Truth to be told he had a tense relationship with Fury as those two never had gotten along, and Tony was not about to follow orders by a man who had no authority left.

"He still works underground, and his intel has been of value," Natasha immediately said, as always supportive of Fury.

"I can't see how that means we have to follow orders as well," Tony commented dryly. He was in general not happy about taking orders from anyone, and especially not from someone who had no power left. He had to listen to the government because they had a certain amount of power, but Fury had little left to say about the Avengers. Or at least Tony thought so.

"He cares about the safety of the world, and so do we," Steve said plainly, stopping any arguments Tony was about to give with a stare before he continued. "And he has brought it to my attention, that a vigilante is roaming the streets of Queens, taking the law into his own hands. What he is doing isn't per se wrong, morally speaking, but Fury would like us to take him in, and get control over the situation," Steve finished, and for a moment Tony was in shock, unsure whether he heard right.

Tony was a genius, no one could argue against that, but even he had a hard time processing just what Steve Rogers was saying. He almost feared he hadn't heard what the man was saying, but at the same time, he knew he didn't hear wrong.

He couldn't afford to appear weak or concerned, and so he never lost his facade, but his inside was a turmoil at this point. Afraid Steve was about to say what he feared the most.

"Just what kind of vigilante are we talking about?" he asked, trying to pretend he didn't care. Knowing Vision would be able to detect just how nervous he was, should he allow his heart to go wild in fear, he tried to control his breathing.

"His name is Spiderman," Steve explained, while several images and videos of said Spiderman appeared on the windows behind them, which at the same time served as a screen. Tony could only assume Steve had asked Friday to put this together, as the man didn't even know what youtube was.

But Tony could only watch, as videos and images he knew so well began to play, of a young man swinging through the streets of Queens. His suit was a hideous ordeal, and wouldn't protect the boy underneath the mask against anything. But Tony knew he was nothing more than a boy, and didn't have access to any better material. He was impressed he even managed to make the fluid he used, as that in itself was an achievement above most people's scientific level.

The word vigilante seemed to fit his profile well, as Spiderman had caught several thieves, stopped a bank robbery, and broken up quite a few fights. Tony personally preferred whether he helped elderly ladies cross the road or that one time he found a kid's glasses.

"From what Fury could gather, he had been active for about four months," Steve continued, but Tony knew that was four months and twenty days. "And judging from this footage he appears to have some kind of enhanced power, at least regarding strength," the captain told, while an image of Spiderman stopping a car from crashing into a train, only using his hands.

"Is this Hydra's work, like Pietro and I?" Wanda asked, both curious and horrified. She had not met anyone at the base in Sokovia like her, apart from her brother, but that did not mean they hadn't created this one at another base.

"We don't know, but that's why we need to get hold of this person and make sure he is under control," Steve answered, while Tony tried to gather his thoughts enough to protest. He had not expected this kind of bullshit would be dropped upon him when he woke up this morning, and if he had known, he would not have attended this meeting. Preferring to live in bliss.

"I don't see how this is a job for the Avengers," Tony finally spoke and tried to avoid looking at the videos, seeing how some of them made him feel particularly sick. "And I specifically can't see what it has to do with me!" he added, trying to appear like he was himself because that was what calm uncaring Tony Stark would have said.

"Tony a strange is taking the law into his own hands, and possess enhances abilities. This is a job for the Avengers, and no one else. And we need you to try and run some statistics, seeing if you can find a pattern in his or hers whereabouts, perhaps even an address or name," Steve said with a sighed, while running his hand through his hair, making it seem like he was explaining something logical to a child.

"And let's say I did that, what are you going to do Cap? Tell him he can't help an elderly lady cross the street?" Tony questioned, trying to sound like his old sarcastic self, as he pointed to a photo of Spiderman doing just that.

"Tony he possesses abilities that could be a danger to the rest of us, and he works outside the law, there is no saying he might have a dangerous motive for doing so, and we don't know whether he works for Hydra," Natasha insisted, and it became apparent to Tony she was supporting Steve and Fury in this ridiculous scheme.

"You think Hydra would equip someone with such a horrible suit? It looks even worse than your costume back in the days," Tony commented, looking at Steve Rogers as he spoke.

"We don't know what they are playing at Tony, so we need to bring this Spiderman in for some questioning, and take it from there," Steve insisted, and Tony was about to explode on the inside, but couldn't allow anyone to see.

"Perhaps we should just wait, and do nothing unless things escalate?" Tony suggested, leaning back in his chair, trying to appear relaxed. "To me, it does not look like Queens is complaining about Spiderman's presence," he added, which was true. He knew Queens were thankful for Spiderman, some of them had even started to spraypaint his portrait on walls, calling him a hero.

"NYPD has started complaining about him, and it would end badly if they started chasing him. We can really make a difference here, and help the local police by doing this task," Steve argued, while Tony wanted to curse. He hadn't even thought about the NYPD, but that could be a problem too.

"I don't mind searching for him," Natasha offered out of the blue, while Tony had to stop himself from glaring at her. "As Tony said, he does have a company to run, and I don't have too much to do at the moment," she added, smiling toward Tony. It was one of those smiles where Tony wasn't sure whether she was trying to be kind or was mocking him, but he didn't like a word of what she just said.

"I can scout the area from above," Sam offered, while Steve nodded in approval, making Tony want to murder all of them in cold blood.

"I will of course be of assistance as well, should you need anything?" Vision offered, making Tony's heart stop beating for a second, seeing how very little managed to hide long from Vision.

"And I will help too, although I am afraid my abilities won't help much finding him. But perhaps I can help when you get hold of this person?" Wanda suggested while tony fought hard not to scream. He knew he had to get out of this room before he managed to get a panic attack, which would be hard to explain.

"Well, I suppose it's settled them? The Avengers will spend their time chasing some clown in a costume, while I spend my time productively, trying to keep the world going, yes?" he asked as a rhetorical question while putting his tinted glasses on once more. He tried to keep the tension light, but on the inside, he was about to explode.

"The team could use you too," Steve tried to press, but Tony just shook his head giving him a calm smile.

"I don't take orders from Fury, buddy," he told him, sounding as lighthearted as he could while walking towards the door. Never turning around to look at them as he walked away. "Try not to destroy the TV again while I am in Manhattan," he called out before he disappeared behind them.

From there he went straight to his helicopter, collapsing in his seat, as Friday flew him toward Manhattan, meaning Tony was alone.

"This time we are fucked Friday," he groaned, staring at his hands in desperation.

And so reality changed for Peter and Tony on the same day, none of them knowing yet how close together these events would bring them. But Mission P.S. had been brought into motion by actions that never could be rectified.

There you go! Another chapter served! I know these chapters aren't that long. But at this point I prefer the short chapters, knowing it's easier to keep going. Anyway, reviews are always nice, and thanks to anyone who is reading along!.
