Chapter Nine: Things Look Up a Little
Another day of training had come and gone with promising results. Bandit had told them that they had performed well and completed their training. That evening, Chili thought to do something that she hadn't been able to do for the past few weeks; take a bath. The she-dog was currently by the river undressing in the tall grass while King, who had a blanket on his back, Mushu and Cri-Kee let her have some privacy. But one didn't seem to enthusiastic about it as he nervously paced around in front of the shore. He let his concerns be heard by saying, "No, no, no. This is really not a good idea.
"What if somebody sees you?" Mushu asked an important question. But Chili had other feelings about it as she glanced back in the grass and said, "Just because I have to look like a man doesn't exactly mean that I have to smell like one too."
"So a couple of guys don't go and rinse out their socks. Picky, picky, picky." Mushu said when he had used his tail as support to lean on. He and King covered their eyes with his ears as Chili came out of the grass and walked past him. The dragon seemed to have different feelings on the subject when he grinned, "Well myself, I kind of like that corn chip smell."
He became annoyed when he was splashed when Chili had jumped into the water. Mushu uncovered one of his eyes to see Chili's head break through the surface. She let herself float with a sight of content. Mushu covered his eyes again when he walked over with a towel and tried to get her out, "Okay, all right. That's enough." He presented the towel to her and said, "Go on and get out before you get all pruny and stuff."
"Mushu, if you're so worried, go and stand watch." Chili suggested as she washed herself. Throwing the towel over shoulder, Mushu walked back and still didn't like it when he said, "Yeah, yeah." He imitated the Mulan by speaking in a high voice, "Go and stand watch, Mushu, while I blow our cover with my stupid girly habits."
He scoffed when he leaned against the rock where Cri-Kee was waiting and made the comment, "Hygiene!"
Cri-Kee suddenly noticed something and tried to get Mushu's attention by pulling on his whiskers as the sound of laughing dogs came to their ears. The two were nearly knocked over as Stripe, Pat and Rad came running down the trail naked. One of them unknowingly threw their underwear down and it covered up Mushu as Stripe shouted, "Me first! Me first!"
"Not before I get there before you!" Pat shot back and pushed against Stripe while Rad was right behind them. Mushu gasped when he pulled the underwear off his head to see the three dogs running to the shore.
"We're doomed!" Mushu worriedly said as the three drew closer to the water. Knowing that this could ruin everything, Mushu looked to Cri-Kee and pointed out, "There are a couple of things that I know they're bound to notice!"
He threw the underwear off of him and ran to help Chili. The underwear ended up covering Cri-Kee and the little bug gave a horrified squeak. Down in the water, Chili gasped when she heard the dogs coming closer and ducked down in the water when she saw them. Stripe and Pat were the first ones to jump in without hesitation while Rad took a moment to dip his toe into the water. When it felt just right to him, he took a big leap into the lake with a holler. Both Stripe and Pat cried out in amusement as Rad created a large wave that pushed them under the water. The two rose to the surface and the three of them broke out in laughter.
A frog hopped off when Chili quickly picked up the lily pad it was sitting on and hid her face with it to try and hide her face. She glanced to her left and noticed a tall rock that she could hide behind. The Red Heeler made her way over as the three male dogs started to splash each other. It was then that Stripe noticed the retreating Chili and called out, "Hey, Jackie!"
Pat and Rad also looked to see the Red Heeler when she froze after being seen. Chili tried to play it cool as she lowered the lily pad and said in her manly voice, "Oh, hey, guys. I didn't know you were here."
That only made the three dogs look to her with questioning looks as if they were wondering why she was acting odd. Chili put on a smile when she said, "I was just washing up. But now I'm clean enough and I'm gonna go now." She waved as she moved behind the rock, "Bye-bye."
"Hey, wait up, Jackie!" Pat called out as he backstroked over to the rock with a lily pad over his groin. He found Chili trying to hide herself and straightened himself in the water and said, "I know that we were jerks to you before…" He did seem to be sorry when he offered, "So, how about we start over.
"Hi, I'm Pat." He introduced himself as he extended his paw. Chili cautiously took the paw and nervously chuckled as she shook it. But when she let go and tried to swim away, she felt someone behind her and looked to see Rad floating behind her and he introduced himself with a nod, "The name's Rad."
"Hello, Rad." Chili greeted back with a smile. But she had to avert her eyes when Stripes climbed up the rock and declared, "And I am Stripe! King of the rock!
"And there ain't a thing you girls can do about it." Stripe smugly said. While Chili didn't want anything to do with the matter, both Rad and Pat took it as a challenge as the two looked to each other with smirks and the latter said, "Oh, yeah?" He took a stance and nudged Chili when he said, "Well, I think that me and Jackie-Jack here can take you on."
"I-I, uh…" Chili started to say, but before anything could be said, Stripe jumped from the rock with a yell and tackled right into Pat and Rad. All three males made a large splash. The three started to play fight again as Pat and Rad tried to dunk Stripe while he splashed water on them. From the shore, Mushu decided not to take any chances and dove into the water.
Chili took the opportunity to try and escape by swimming away from the three boys. But Pat happened to notice this and called out, "Hey, Jackie! Where are you going?"
"Oh, just getting out." Chili said as she kept trying to swim for the shore. But Pat was able to break away from his friends and swam after her. Unbeknown to the Golden Retriever, a shape was following after him under the water. He was able to grab a hold of her paw and said, "Oh, come on. Don't be such a g-"
He cried in pain when he felt something bite him on the butt. The Golden Retriever's cry drew the attention of Rad and Stripe as they looked to their friends. Pat rubbed the area and looked about as he worriedly said, "Something just bit me on the bum!"
"Ugh!" Mushu came up between the two and started sputtering after what he just did. He shuddered when he said, "What a nasty flavor."
Pat happened to look and saw Mushu in the water. But knowing that he was a dragon, the Golden Retriever fearfully called out, "Snake!"
"Snake!" Stripe and Rad cried out as they all started swimming for the rock. They started screaming like girls as they clambered up the rock to try and avoid another snakes in the water. Chili took it as an opportunity to give a whistle. King happened to hear it and came running down the path with a whinny to help.
The trio continued to try and steer clear of the water as they kept a look out. King came down to the water's edge as Chili swam up to him as the trio screamed, "Snake!"
King moved to where he could shield Chili's body from the three's eyes and moved to keep her cover. Mushu kept a grip on the horse's tail as he continued to spit due to having bitten a butt. Chili glanced back to the screaming dogs as they started to calm down before disappearing down the path. On their little rock, Pat glanced to Stripe and commented with a quirked brow, "Some king of the rock."
Stripe's response to this was to shove Pat back in. The Golden Retriever screamed as he fell into the water with a big splash. Down the path, Chili was wrapping herself with King's blanket as she was still scared from the whole ordeal, "Boy, that sure was close."
"No, that was vile." Mushu said as he had a toothbrush and tube in hand was really scrubbing to get the taste out. He spit out the paste and looked up to her with a glare, "And you really owe me big for that."
The dragon opened his jaws wide and put some more toothpaste on his tongue. He started scrubbing hard again as he still couldn't get the taste out. Chili started wiping her fur with the towel from earlier as she said, "I never want to see a naked dog again."
King gave a snort of agreement with her. A series of howls made everyone look to see a pack of naked male dogs rushing down the paths. All eyes were wide from what they had just witnessed and King gave Chili a glance before shaking his head in disgust. All the dogs started jumping in the water and Mushu gave Chili and annoyed look and put his foot down, "Hey, don't be looking at me." He walked ahead of her and swore, "I ain't bitin' no more butts. Ever."

Chili was fully clothed when she and Mushu had come back to the main part of camp. They were walking by Ar Fe's tent when they could hear the Bulldog ask someone, "You think that your troops are ready to fight?"
They looked to see that Bandit was in the tent as well. And from the sound of things, it didn't seem to be going too well. They heard Ar Fe giving a mocking laugh before saying, "They would not last a full minute against the Huns!
"And they seem still lack discipline." Ar Fe added with a huff. In the tent, Bandit argued for the troops, "They completed their training. They've all mastered what I could teach them."
"Those boys…" Ar Fe said with disdain. The Bulldog had a disapproving look when he said, "are no more fit to be soldiers than you are to be Captain."
Bandit could tell that Ar Fe didn't agree with his father's choice. Ar Fe seemed so sure of it when he held up his notes, "Once the General reads my report, your troops will never see a battle."
"Oh no, you don't!" Mushu angrily, but quietly said as he had been listening to the conversation while Chili stayed back. He thought of the Bulldog with a glare, "I've worked too hard to get Chili into this war." Looking to Cri-Kee he sounded really ticked off, "This guy's going to mess with my plan."
Back inside the tent, Ar Fe was finishing something on the board. Deciding to keep fighting for the troops, Bandit moved the board with his paw and said, "We're not finished yet!"
"Easy there, Captain." Ar Fe said in a warning tone and removed Bandit's paw. He then reminded with a smug grin, "The general may be your father, but I am the Emperor's counsel."
Bandit glared at the Bulldog as Ar Fe walked up to the flap of the tent. But Ar Fe stopped and glanced back while snobbishly pointing out, "Oh, and by the way, I got that job all on my own.
"You are now dismissed." Ar Fe said and opened the flap of the tent for Bandit. The Blue Heeler just huffed and walked out of the tent.
Chili saw Bandit emerge from the tent and noticed the look on the Captain's face. She had heard the last few bits between him and Ar Fe. Trying to cheer him up, Chili jokingly said in her manly voice, "Hey, I'll hold him…" She punched her palm, "And then you punch him right in the kisser."
She chuckled as she thought it was a little funny, not to mention that Ar Fe had it coming. But Bandit didn't seem to find it funny at the moment as he kept walking. Seeing that her attempt to humor him didn't go so well, Chili took a deep breath when she thought of something else. Chili called out to him, "But Bandit…"
The Blue Heeler stopped and glanced back to Chili. She was sincere when she said, "For what it's worth, I do think that you're a great captain."
Her words seemed to lighten Bandit's mood and he gave a small nod. But he still ended up walking off and Chili sighed with a smile. Mushu walked up next to her and crossed his arms when he said, "I saw that."
"Huh, what?" Chili asked in confusion and looked down to the dragon. A knowing smile came about Mushu and Cri-Kee's faces as the former said, "You like him, don't you?"
"No! I-" Chili said, knowing that with the charade she was pulling, it would seem really weird. Mushu shook his head, "Yeah, all right. Yeah, sure. If that's how you want to play this." Then like a parent with a child he pointed and ordered, "Go to your tent!"
Chili turned to go, but stopped and gave a glance to the direction Bandit had went. A smile came on her face as she did think that she and Bandit would make a nice couple. Her smile didn't falter as she walked off.
Mushu and Cri-Kee watched her go before the former said to the latter, "I do think that it's time we took this war into our own hands."
With a sinister chuckle and a rub of his talons, Mushu slinked off to pull his plan. Cri-Kee looked to his little hands before hopping after the dragon. The two came to the side of Ar Fe's tent and didn't have to wait long as the Bulldog came walking out of the tent with a towel wrapped around his head and waist. Ar Fe hummed as he threw a brush over his shoulder and happily walked off to take a bath. When they were sure that he was gone, Mushu motioned for the cricket to follow and he snuck into the tent. Cri-Kee hopped up to the opening, but didn't seem to keen on sneaking in. He gasped when Mushu's clawed hand reached out and pulled him inside.

Ar Fe had come down to the river to take his bath when he saw all the soldiers going about. The Bulldog huffed in annoyance as he prepared himself. Little did he know, the soldiers were planning to mess with the Emperor's counsel.

Once they had everything that they needed, Mushu made Cri-Kee use some ink to make a letter that would seemingly come from the front lines. While Cri-Kee was typing away as he made a clicking sound when he hopped around, Mushu looked at portrait of the Bulldog standing next to the Emperor. While Ar Fe seemed to be having a good time, the Emperor looked as if this were a bad idea with his bored expression. When he finished, Mushu walked over and grabbed the paper, "Ok, let me see what you got.
"From General Heeler." Mushu read aloud. Cri-Kee seemed pleased as he wiped the ink off his feet as Mushu kept reading, "Dear son, we're waiting for Huns at the pass. It would mean a lot if you'd come and back us up."
Mushu stopped reading and didn't let his annoyance show as he lowered the paper and took a deep breath. Leaning down to Cri-Kee he started out calm, "That's great, except you forgot, 'And since we're out of potpourri, perhaps you wouldn't mind bringing up some.'"
While Cri-Kee thought it sounded like a good idea, he was proven wrong when Mushu shouted, "Hello! This is the army, man!"
Balling up the paper, he set it aflame and it quickly burned up. Then he told the cricket what they needed, "Could you make it sound a lot more urgent!" Then he asked, "You know what I'm talkin' about here?"
Cri-Kee seemed to get the message as he stood straight and saluted with a chirp in understanding. He jumped into the tray of ink before jumping onto a blank sheet of paper and started again. Mushu looked over Cri-Kee's work and liked what he was seeing this time. With a nod the dragon said, "That's better. Much better." When Cri-Kee finished he grabbed the paper, "Now let's go."
Cri-Kee cried out and fell when Mushu pulled the paper from underneath him.
The two quickly searched before finding King getting some water from a trough. They climbed up the blanket and Mushu leaned against the rolled-up letter. The horse's attention was stolen when Mushu said, "Kingsley, baby." The horse looked to the dragon and cricket as Mushu asked, "Hey, we need a ride."
King's response to that was spitting some water into Mushu's face and knocking him off his back. When the dragon had fallen to the ground, King gave Cri-Kee a questioning look and the cricket took the hint and jumped back with a nervous chirp. Without another word he hopped off the horse's back.
Cri-Kee hopped over to Mushu as the dragon picked himself back up. Chili's guardian sighed and said, "Looks like we're going to have to find a Plan B."
The two headed out of the camp to find something that they could work with.

Back at the river, a humiliated Ar Fe came running out of the water. He held a broken brush in his paw and looked at it with a glare. All the other dogs in the water were laughing from the fun that they just had. Ar Fe started walking off and growled, "Insubordinate ruffians!" He turned back, shook the broken brush and shouted, "You no good dogs owe me a new brush!"
That just made the laughter continue and Ar Fe turned away with a huff. But before he left, he tried to sound as manly as he could, "And I do not squeal like a girl."
He ended up squealing like a girl when a big paw knocked the brush from his hand. The paw belonged to a panda bear as it started sniffing around. Ar Fe calmed down a little when he saw a soldier sitting on the back. But it was a makeshift soldier as it was being controlled by Mushu and Cri-Kee. Mushu was working the arms while Cri-Kee controlled the face. Mushu made a hand with the letter in it extend and said in a different voice, "Urgent news from the General, good sir."
But Ar Fe wasn't believing the makeshift soldier as he looked down at the panda. While Cri-Kee made a questioning look, Mushu then questioned, "What's the matter? You've never seen a black and white before?"
Ar Fe straightened up and looked over the makeshift soldier. The Bulldog took the letter from the puppet's hand and looked at the scroll with suspicion. He came a little closer and questioned, "Just who are you exactly?"
"Excuse me?" The puppet soldier questioned, looking annoyed with Ar Fe. Then he threw it back by jabbing a finger at Ar Fe and questioning, "I think that the real question is, who are you?" He used the same hand to smack Ar Fe in the nose and pointed out, "We are in a war, man! There's no time for such stupid questions!
"I should have your hat for that dumb question. Could snatch it right off your big head." Mushu said as the panda started walking. In a quick motion, Mushu was able to turn the top half of the puppet soldier around one eighty as he continued, "But I'm feeling really gracious today…" Now with a wave of the puppet's hand he ordered, "Now carry on before I go and report you."
Deciding to take the puppet soldier's word for it, Ar Fe unrolled the scroll and started to read it. The panda climbed up into the tree and Mushu had to keep a grip on the top half when it started to fall. The Bulldog became very surprised by what it said and looked about for the soldier, but couldn't see him anywhere.
Knowing that what the scroll said was urgent, Ar Fe quickly rushed to find Captain Bandit. When he reached the tent, Ar Fe burst in and frantically said, "Captain Bandit, urgent news from the General!" Bandit looked back to him with wide eyes when Ar Fe told him, "We're desperately needed at the front."
"Okay, go and let the troops know." Bandit ordered. Ar Fe turned to leave when Bandit said, "And, uh, Ar Fe?"
"Yes, sir." Ar Fe said and turned back to the Blue Heeler. Bandit covered his eyes and pointed to the Bulldog when said, "You might want to cover up."
Ar Fe was a little confused at first before looking down. He gave another high-pitched scream when he saw that he wasn't wearing a towel around his waist. With an embarrassed cry, Ar Fe ran out of the tent to cover his shame.
\_|_/
Ar Fe, upset as he burst into the room: You had my towel fall off during that last scene?
Hands on his hips he questioned: What do you have to say for yourself?
TheWriterForGod42: Mostly that you still need to cover up.
Ar Fe looks down and lets out another high-pitched squeal as he realizes that he didn't change into clothes.

Author's Note: And we stop it here. Hope that this chapter was filled with plenty of humor for you. I know that it made me laugh a couple of times. The next chapter we do one of the best songs from the whole movie. Not to mention its one of Disney's best romance songs in my opinion. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
