Notes: By now I think you've all figured out what it is Blaine does when he's not with Kurt or his friends. But before Kurt finds out, too, and things starts to get even more complicated, let's have a few happy chapters. So sit back, relax and enjoy some fluff!

Chapter 12 – The Date

On Friday night the diner was busy and kept Kurt on his feet all night. He made a fair share of mistakes with his orders and with the cash register simply because his mind was somewhere else. He kept glancing at the clock, counting down the hours and minutes until closing time, knowing Blaine would be right outside waiting for him. It was a blessing Santana wasn't there, it meant he didn't have to lie to her about Blaine (because they had agreed to keep their relationship a secret), and that in turn meant he didn't have to listen to her mocking comments about what a mistake it was.

Nervous excitement buzzed under Kurt's skin and the excitement only grew the closer it got to ten pm. Soon he was going on a date with his boyfriend! He didn't care that Blaine didn't want to call it a date, to Kurt that's what it was. The nervousness came from not knowing how to act in public with Blaine. Was it okay to kiss him and hold his hand when there were other people around? Was it only around Blaine's friends they had to pretend or was that a general rule? They had been texting earlier that morning, but Kurt hadn't thought to ask.

Kurt had texted Blaine good morning when he woke up followed by a heart emoji he spent five minutes deliberating if he should add or not. He didn't want to seem too eager or too smitten, but they were together now and Blaine must already know how much he liked him. Blaine answered with an 'I miss you' followed by a heart and Kurt wondered why he'd hesitated. Little thrills rushed through him every time Blaine sent a new text and he caught himself grinning stupidly at his phone more than once.

When the diner finally closed, Kurt rushed through the cleaning and closing routines and then he was finally free to go. When he opened the backdoor and stepped out into the warm night, there were butterflies in his belly and a drum in his chest.

And then he saw him.

Blaine was leaning against his motorcycle, all dressed in black and as sexy as ever. Only now he was Kurt's. Kurt wanted to run to Blaine, throw himself in his arms and hug him tight, but he controlled himself and walked over casually.

Blaine didn't show the same control. When Kurt reached the bike, Blaine pulled him into his arms and kissed him with so much heat it made Kurt's legs turn to jelly and he had to hold on to Blaine to not fall to the ground.

"I've missed you," Blaine said when he pulled away. Kurt had read it in the text that morning but hearing Blaine say it to him in person was something else.

"I've missed you, too," Kurt answered a little breathless after the kiss.

A smile spread across Blaine's lips and Kurt couldn't resist kissing him again. At least here, in the dark, in the parking lot, it was okay to kiss Blaine.

"Are you ready?" Blaine asked and reached out his helmet towards Kurt.

"Maybe I should drive there myself." Kurt didn't want to leave his car behind so he'd have to come back for it later and figured it would be more practical if he went in his own car.

"I thought you wanted to go for a ride," Blaine said with eyes that sparkled. "You and me and some speed."

Kurt swallowed hard and nodded. Yes, he wanted that. Why had he even suggested he'd take his own car? Just the thought of sitting behind Blaine while they sped down the streets sent thrills through his body. Before meeting Blaine, Kurt had never ridden a motorcycle and he didn't know that the speed and wind and seeing the city flash by could be that exhilarating. Holding on tight to Blaine, feeling Blaine against his chest and thighs was an added bonus. Or maybe that was the main attraction, if Kurt was honest.

Kurt put on the helmet and straddled the bike behind Blaine.

"Hold on tight," Blaine said and started the engine.

As if Kurt had any other plan.

Blaine drove them through the city to an area Kurt vaguely recognized but couldn't name. The store lay on a busy street, crammed in between a 24-hour tattoo parlor and a popular pizza place (judging by the number of guests sitting by the tables at the outdoor seating area).

Kurt felt lost in the store (especially being there in his work outfit), there were so many different motorcycle accessories and gadgets. Kurt couldn't even name what most of them were for, but Blaine guided him to the section with helmets and made him try out a few. Kurt selected a black one that matched Blaine's, paid for it and then they left.

Blaine stayed close to Kurt in the shop, never quite touching him except for when he helped Kurt put on a helmet. Then he would run his fingers through Kurt's hair to get it out of Kurt's face before the helmet came on. It wasn't obvious, but if someone paid them close attention, they might guess that the innocent gesture was more intimate than it appeared. Kurt made sure to brush his fingers against Blaine's when he handed back helmets he'd tried on. They were small touches but the feelings behind them were not small.

"Where are we going next?" Kurt asked when they were back on the bike.

"Anywhere you want, blue-eyes," Blaine smiled and adjusted Kurt's helmet to a perfect fit.

"I have an idea," Kurt said, something occurring to him. "Will you let me guide you through the city?" He wanted to be alone with Blaine with no risk of interruptions, and he knew just the place. Blaine nodded and Kurt liked that Blaine trusted him without questions.

The city passed by in a blur when there was no traffic and stayed more in focus when cars clogged up the streets. Kurt guided Blaine by either tapping on his left or right arm when he wanted Blaine to make a turn. Blaine understood the soundless communication and followed Kurt's directions. Kurt squeezed his thighs tight to Blaine's, his hand sliding down on them every now and then. Blaine's thighs were hard muscles under the black jeans and Kurt couldn't get enough of touching Blaine.

After taking several detours just so he could stay on the bike behind Blaine a little longer, Kurt had Blaine slow down and pull up outside an apartment building near campus.

"Where are we?" Blaine asked, taking off his helmet.

"This is my place," Kurt said, removing his helmet too, and gestured to the building where he lived. "I was hoping you would like to come inside with me."

"Really, you live here? This is a nice neighborhood." Blaine looked around and took in the surroundings.

"What did you think, that I lived in a dumpster?" Kurt laughed.

Blaine let out a sweet laughter. "No, of course not." He gazed up at the building Kurt was pointing at. "I just, I don't know, pictured you in a dorm or something."

"Nope. Too crowded, I need my space and privacy."

Blaine continued to take in the surroundings, absorbing the neighborhood. "Is that the shop that sells that cheesecake you told me about?" Blaine asked, having spotted the little shop on the corner across the street.

"Yes," Kurt said, smiling because Blaine remembered. "It's far too close to my apartment for it to be healthy for me, but I do love that it's right there."

"You still haven't treated me to a slice like you promised," Blaine teased.

"There's always tomorrow." Kurt really hoped Blaine would want to spend tomorrow with him too. He had no plans for his day and couldn't think of a better way to spend it.

"There is always tomorrow, blue-eyes," Blaine answered uncommittingly even if there was a fondness in his voice.

"Soo..." Kurt said, dragging out the o. "Do you want to come inside?" He didn't know why, but he felt a little insecure having to ask twice. Maybe Blaine wanted a date with more action than the calm evening awaiting them inside Kurt's apartment. "I can make us some tea."

Blaine took his eyes away from the buildings around them and looked at Kurt and smirked. "I do have a tea craving."

Kurt lived on the fourth floor in a ten-story building. The elevator was out of order every now and then and Kurt was glad he didn't have to climb more than three flights of stairs when that happened. Like tonight. Kurt ascended the stairs with Blaine close behind.

Once inside the apartment, with the door safely closed between them and the outside world, Kurt couldn't contain himself any longer. He'd been wanting to kiss Blaine again ever since they left the parking lot by the diner. Every second on the motorcycle and every time Blaine touched him in the shop, Kurt wanted to kiss Blaine. Now that he could, now that they were finally alone with no one to see them, he didn't hold back.

Blaine hummed into the kiss, kissing Kurt back with the same intensity Kurt kissed him. When Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt's shoulders, holding him close to his body, it felt like Kurt's heart had gotten wings. Kurt was happy. It was the best way to describe his feelings. Being with Blaine made him happy in a way no one had before. Yes, his feelings were intense, and he knew they would cool down eventually, but he loved that intensity and he wanted to hold on to it for as long as he could. It was exciting feeling that way, like nothing else mattered than him and Blaine together.

Blaine was everything Kurt didn't know he was looking for. He was mysterious and secretive and sexy and sweet and Kurt's. Somehow he was Kurt's boyfriend and Kurt was falling hard for him.

When Kurt finally pulled away from the kiss, Blaine looked back at him with eyes bright and sparkling and Kurt's breath caught in his throat.

"I hope you don't greet all of your visitors that way," Blaine said, his smile a shade shy of mischievous. "I'd be jealous."

Kurt chuckled softly. "I'll make sure to reserve this kind of greeting only for you." He paused for a second. "I hope you don't mind me taking you here. I wanted to be alone with you with no one to disturb."

"Not in the slightest," Blaine said. "This is perfect."

"Come," Kurt said and took Blaine's hand in his. "I'll show you around." He felt that good kind of nervous excitement at having Blaine in his apartment, of having Blaine to himself.

The apartment was a one-bedroom apartment and there wasn't much to show, but Blaine didn't seem to mind being led around while Kurt showed him the small kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom. They ended up on the couch in the living room after the short tour. Kurt removed his phone from his back pocket, placed it on the table, and snuggled into Blaine's side. Blaine lifted his arm invitingly and curled it around Kurt's shoulder, pulling him even closer. Blaine was warm next to him and Kurt exhaled a content sigh.

"Your place is so nice. One day I'm gonna live in a place like this," Blaine said and placed a kiss on the top of Kurt's head.

"I think your boat is nice," Kurt said then. He liked that it was small, it made it charming and cozy.

Blaine huffed into his hair. "It's cramped and impractical."

"But it's yours," Kurt said, echoing Blaine's own words from when Blaine first took him to his boat.

"True," Blaine said, a little less annoyed. "I still wish sometimes I could afford a place like this."

The money Kurt found in Blaine's cupboard flashed through his mind, but he still didn't know for sure the money was Blaine's, so he said nothing about it. Instead he lifted his face, looked into Blaine's gorgeous eyes and met his lips. The novelty of kissing Blaine hadn't worn off yet and every kiss sent shivers through his body. It was still a little unfathomable that Blaine was his boyfriend.

Kurt leaned his upper body against Blaine's and pressed him into the couch because he couldn't get enough of kissing Blaine. He would never get enough of kissing Blaine, not even when his most intense feelings simmered down. Kissing was intimate and a luxury, and Kurt planned to take as much advantage of their alone time as he could.

Blaine's cheeks were hot when Kurt leaned back again and his eyes conveyed a message that seemed to say damn, Kurt. Kurt couldn't help but giggle a little, biting his lower lip shyly, wondering if he was coming on a little too strong. He just couldn't help himself.

"How about that tea?" Blaine suggested with a teasing smile.

"You really want tea?" Kurt asked. When we can just sit here and have each other? He didn't ask.

"It's the reason I agreed to come up here with you, isn't it?" Blaine's eyes sparkled in the dim light.

"Okay then." Kurt placed one more light kiss on Blaine's lips before leaning back. "But first I'm gonna take a quick shower."

Being that close to Blaine it was like the smell from his work attire bounced on Blaine and back to Kurt and he could smell just how bad he smelled from working at the diner. He had half a mind to invite Blaine to join him, but he remembered what they said about taking it slow, so he let that thought rest. He would leave Blaine on the couch with thoughts of Kurt naked in the shower, letting his mind play with those images.

Kurt stepped out of his work outfit in the bathroom and hurried through the shower. He put on a pair of comfortable gray sweatpants and a snug white t-shirt, fixed his hair a little bit and then went to the kitchen to make tea.

"Kurt?" Blaine said from the couch. From the way he said Kurt's name Kurt could tell something was troubling him. "Why is Nick texting you asking if you're still on for tomorrow? What's happening tomorrow?"

Kurt returned to the couch and placed the two mugs on coasters on the coffee table. He sat down and looked between Blaine and his phone on the table.

"I wasn't snooping," Blaine continued as if he could read Kurt's mind. "You left your phone on the table and it kept buzzing. I could see the screen from here."

Kurt looked at his phone again and saw that Blaine was right, the phone was right there, screen facing upwards. He reached for Blaine's hand, but Blaine crossed his arms and waited for Kurt to answer.

Kurt's hand fell to his lap, his heart sinking a little bit. Blaine was more annoyed than Kurt thought he was. Kurt didn't understand what the big deal was.

"Nick mentioned you were going out downtown tomorrow and invited me to come along. I told him I already have plans to go out with friends but he wanted us to exchange numbers so we could all meet up somewhere. The more the merrier or something like that."

Blaine muttered something unintelligible, and then said, "Why do you have a heart-eyes emoji after his name?"

Was that what Blaine was really annoyed about?

"Nick added the emoji when he entered his name and number to my phone. I have no idea why, I guess he was trying to be funny," Kurt said with a little laugh, even though he had a pretty good idea why Nick had done it.

"You didn't enter it?" Blaine asked hesitantly.

Kurt shook his head. "No."

"And you…don't like him…?"

"No, I don't like him," Kurt said softly, understanding how it must have looked in Blaine's eyes. "I like you, Blaine. You say you've never felt this way about anyone, well neither have I." Kurt thought Blaine already knew that but maybe he hadn't been clear enough.

Blaine's whole body softened and warm fingertips reached for Kurt's hand. "Is that true?"

"Of course it is. It's scary how fast I've fallen for you, but it doesn't make my feelings for you any less real."

"I'm sorry, Kurt." Blaine moved closer on the couch. "This is all so new to me and I… I..." Blaine stopped and ran a hand through his hair while making a frustrated sound. "That heart-eyes emoji just really scared me, and I didn't know what to think."

"I should have removed it immediately, but it slipped my mind that it was there. Because I've been thinking too much about you and not enough about anything else."

Blaine smiled at that, curled his arm around Kurt again and pulled him back into his body. Kurt moved willingly until he was resting in Blaine's arm again.

"I'll remove it now, it's silly to keep it there," Kurt said and reached for his phone. He erased the emoji, ignored answering the text, and put his phone back on the table. Then he leaned back in Blaine's arms again.

"Thank you." Blaine pressed a kiss to Kurt's temple. He relaxed and breathed in. "You smell good," he commented.

"Better than fried food and stale coffee, right?"

Blaine took another sniff. "So much better."

"Do you want to watch a movie?" Kurt suggested. He felt like doing something normal, just curl up on the couch and watch a movie with his boyfriend, because things always seemed to get so intense when they met.

They decided on a movie and Kurt didn't move an inch from the position he was sitting in with Blaine's arm around him and his body tucked into Blaine's side. He only barely registered what was happening in the movie, Blaine's fingertips drawing patterns on his arm and just the fact that Blaine was real had him distracted.

"I'm sorry I got insecure about you," Blaine said softly out of nowhere about fifteen minutes into the movie. "I feel like I don't know what I'm doing or how I'm supposed to act."

"You're not supposed to act at all," Kurt said, tilting his face so he could look at Blaine. "Just be you and we will be alright."

"I'm scared that me isn't what you're looking for."

"Hey, we've been through this before, Blaine. You are exactly who I want. There's something special between us, don't you feel it?" Kurt paused and watched as Blaine nodded slowly.

"I do."

"Then trust that feeling, don't think too much." Kurt sat up and leaned away from Blaine slightly so he could look at Blaine properly when he spoke the next words. "I want to be with you, Blaine, no one else. Not Nick nor anyone else. Okay?"

Blaine nodded again. "Okay. But I just-"

Kurt placed his finger on Blaine's lips to quiet him. "No buts. Unless it's my butt," Kurt added with a wink. He couldn't help himself, the situation needed to be less heavy. Less serious. They couldn't end up in the same conversations every time they met.

A wicked smile spread across Blaine's lips. "In that case…" He leaned closer, pressed his lips on Kurt's and pushed Kurt down on the couch. All of Blaine's concerns seemed gone and Kurt for one was glad he'd finally managed to make Blaine let it go.

Blaine laid down on top of him, kissing him silly. Kurt was dizzy with the attention but was in no way complaining. He had his boyfriend in his apartment, alone with no one to interrupt. Blaine was relaxed and Kurt was happy.

"Thanks for taking me here," Blaine said, leaning his head back to look into Kurt's eyes.

"It only seemed fair, I've been to your place more than once," Kurt said cheekily.

"No I mean it, I really am grateful for the time alone with you."

Blaine was becoming serious again, but Kurt had had enough of that. "I had purely selfish reasons," Kurt said and moved his face up towards Blaine's so he could kiss him again. Kurt's hands found their way under Blaine's black t-shirt, feeling the warm skin of Blaine's back. He traced his fingers up along his spine, hoping to distract Blaine's thoughts.

Blaine groaned into Kurt's mouth, squirmed a little under Kurt's touch and yes, that was all it took for Kurt's blood to travel south. He didn't thrust up though, didn't grab Blaine's ass to push him down even if that was what he wanted to do. Or at least he tried not to but maybe he failed miserably at that. It just became increasingly more difficult to think anything coherent when every kiss, every sensual lick into his mouth shot sparks from Kurt's groin up through his belly.

He was only human after all.

"Do you want to move into my bedroom?" Kurt asked between kisses.

Blaine leaned back then, sat up on the couch, and it made Kurt feel like it was the wrong thing to ask, but he didn't understand why when to Kurt it felt like the natural next step.

"Ehm…," Blaine said, running his hand through his curls. "I'm sorry if I've given you the wrong impression just now, but I meant what I said when I said I wanted to take things slow."

Kurt sat up too. "I know, I just thought… It's only you and me now, no one can walk in on us and I thought… I thought that was at least part of the reason," Kurt said and Blaine looked a little embarrassed. Kurt felt embarrassed for assuming and for the situation in general. "I'm sorry, Blaine. I just remember that night on the beach and that night on your boat when we… and I… Well, I kind of just want to be with you again. Like that. But maybe you don't want to?"

Blaine was silent, thinking. He had always been an enigma, two persons in one and Kurt had a hard time figuring out who Blaine really was at times. This time Blaine was the one who initiated things, he was the one who pressed Kurt into the couch and now he didn't want to follow through?

"When I first met you, I got the impression that you weren't shy about having sex, that I wasn't exactly the first guy you picked up. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's a little confusing." Confusing was one part of it, but it was also frustrating. How many times could Blaine turn him on only to turn him down?

"You're right, you're not the first guy I've picked up, but when I pick up guys, I'm Devon. With you I'm Blaine."

"There's a difference?" Kurt couldn't help but frown. He didn't see the logic in Blaine's thought.

"Devon doesn't really give a shit. He takes what he came for and then he leaves. He doesn't get emotionally attached. There's a reason why I don't use my real name."

"You gave your real name to me quite quickly."

"Because with you I don't want to be Devon. You're different from the guys I've picked up in the past, it didn't take me long to feel that. It only took me some time to figure out how to handle it. And now I want to do it the right way."

"So on the beach and on the boat…?"

"Those times…," Blaine started. "…that happened because we weren't serious then."

"But now we are?" Kurt didn't mean for it to come out as surprised as it did, and he wished he could take it back and say something different.

"Aren't we?" Blaine hesitated.

"I mean, I am. I couldn't be sure about you..."

"It's just all very new to me, you and this relationship and I don't want to rush it or fast forward." Blaine paused for a second before he continued. "I guess I have this silly idea in my head, that I don't want to miss out on the experience of that first time in a relationship when everything is new and exciting, and the slow build up to… something more. Because this is my first. Does that make sense?"

Kurt smiled at Blaine. "Yes, Blaine, and it's not silly. It's actually really sweet," Kurt said and slid his fingers through Blaine's and rested their linked hands on his lap. "You're right, there's no need to rush this. But you do want to, at some point, have sex with me again?" Kurt asked and then hurried to add. "Not that that's why I want to be with you, but I do want sex. At some point."

"At some point, yes," Blaine agreed.

"Good," Kurt beamed. "Good. Well, I guess this is a good thing, that means you're planning to stick around for a while."

"...Yes."

If there was a slight note of hesitation in Blaine's voice Kurt didn't catch it, he was too busy feeling giddy about the commitment Blaine had just spoken out loud. Kurt snuggled in close to Blaine, kissed his cheek and rested his head on Blaine's shoulder. A thought made its way into his mind. He wouldn't say it bothered him, but he couldn't stop himself from asking Blaine about it.

"So, when you say you've picked up guys, how many have there been? Exactly."

Blaine cleared his throat. "Does it really matter?" He put his arm around Kurt's shoulder and squeezed him tight. "None of them compares to you anyway."

No, it didn't really matter to Kurt. Blaine was there with him now. That was the only thing that was important. That was all he cared about. The number of guys Blaine, or Devon, had been with before they met was irrelevant.

"Shall we watch the movie again?" Kurt suggested.

Blaine made a humming, agreeing sound and they both returned their gazes to the TV and the movie that had been running all along. Kurt actually liked this better than the alternative. The two short relationships he'd been in before he met Blaine had both been the kind that jump straight into the sex bit, and they hadn't lasted for very long. But Blaine was different. Blaine was special and so was their relationship. Taking their time was kind of exciting and a chance to build something solid and lasting. Something his previous relationships had failed at.

"You're one of a kind, do you know that?" Kurt said fondly.

"Am I?"

"Yes, definitely. I'm glad you walked into my diner and made a move on me. I don't think I would have been so bold as to make a move on you even though I found you extremely attractive."

"I'm glad I did that, too. I never imagined I'd end up here with you, but I wouldn't want to change it for anything." Blaine leaned his head against Kurt's. "You're special, Kurt, and being with you is the happiest I've been in a really long time."

Hearing Blaine say words like that made Kurt all warm inside and he turned his face up to meet Blaine's lips in a soft, lazy kiss. They then returned to watch the movie which had probably reached the halfway mark or more. Kurt didn't care about the movie. Just sitting there with Blaine, he could watch whatever movie there was, it wouldn't make a difference. Finding Blaine, having him in his life, that's what made the moment special.

Later, when the movie was coming to an end, Kurt noticed that Blaine's breathing had evened out and that he had fallen asleep. He looked so peaceful that Kurt didn't have the heart to wake him up. Kurt was exhausted too after a long day at work and a long night with Blaine, so when the movie ended, he simply turned the TV off and pulled a blanket over himself and Blaine. He was asleep within minutes.
