Chapter 16 - The Escape

Blaine zig zagged between cars as he sped down the street. He wanted to - no needed to - escape it all. He didn't care about the rain, barely noticed the thunder, he was focused on getting to the highway where he could accelerate and outrun his miserable life.

Once there, on the highway, the speed was liberating. It always had been for him. When he was younger, he used to love when they flew across the water with their boat. He used to laugh and feel like nothing could bring him down. Then, when he got his driver's license it was the same when he was in a car. He didn't laugh, but the feeling was the same. But the thing he loved the most was sitting behind his dad on his motorcycle. The freedom and the power were exhilarating, made him feel invincible. Now that motorcycle was his, but he had no reason to laugh or feel invincible anymore.

Kurt knew it all now. He was never supposed to find out but now he knew and now he was repulsed by Blaine. He should have known not to open up his heart. Should have known it wouldn't last. It never did. All good things were taken from him, why did he think this would be any different? But he had wanted to believe. Wanted to feel happy and to pretend he could live a normal life, just for a little while. But it was all a lie.

Kurt had been special. Kurt was special. Being with Kurt had made Blaine feel as if he was on the most thrilling ride of his life, better than speeding down the street on his motorcycle. Kurt had made him smile, had made him feel normal and as if he was truly worth something to someone. Blaine hadn't felt that way since his parents died. Kurt had made him feel as if there might be a different future ahead for him.

But the way all hope he had for a normal life had vanished when Kurt said Blaine had ruined everything between them, that feeling broke everything within Blaine. It was like falling into a deep, dark, bottomless abyss. He saw no light, no reason to care any longer. No reason to change.

Not only Kurt knew, but Nick too and soon they would all know. Soon they would all look at him differently, despise him. Judge him. He really needed to make more money, and fast, so he could get out of there. He would make himself available every night, do whatever it took. Everybody already hated him, if he hated himself a little bit more it wouldn't make a difference.

When the highway cleared and he was the only vehicle on the road, Blaine sped up his bike even faster. He raced against time, against his past, against his present. Against his ghosts. Escaping. He had no perception of where he was or where he was going. He would follow the highway until he ran out of gas. Just for tonight. One night of not giving a damn, of running away from his problems, and from his heart. He knew that when he stopped, he would feel everything he was running from and it would hurt twice as much.

The bike skidded on the wet road but Blaine managed to hold it upright and steady. It happened again a few minutes later, but nothing would make Blaine slow down tonight, not even the wet road. He didn't care. In fact, he wanted to face death tonight, stare him in the eyes, challenge him. He had nothing to lose. Not anymore.

Notes: Okay, maybe this is the lowest, darkest point of the story…

There is a song that has been a big inspiration for me when writing this story, especially this part of the story. It's called Miles Of Blue and is performed by Jill Johnson feat. Robin Stjernberg – I love this song and you should check it out!
