Finally A Break

Frost and I headed to Jenna's dorm, hoping to catch the roommate before one of her classes. She was asked to be removed from the room, but all evidence was collected by now. When we knocked there was no answer, we decided to wait for a bit before we tracked her down back at the station.

"What did Jack want?" I leaned against the wall, running my hand through my hair.

"To give me his opinion about how I live my life."

"What has your life got to do with him, you barely talk to the guy."

"That is not going to change anytime soon, since he decided to give me his input on my life."

Frost always got along with Jack, even hung out with him on some weekends. When Jack came back that friendship never continued. I never told him about my time with Maura or even the boundaries that were set after Jack found out. I think he just noticed that I wasn't putting much effort into being Jack's friend, and as my partner, he had my back.

"How are Maura and he doing, will you be sporting a nice maid of honours dress?" I laughed like I would be caught wearing a fucking dress.

"You make jokes, but I think it will be you in that dress bro."

"Wait what! Why me!" I looked past Frost, noticing the roommate coming our way.

"It's Maura's wedding, that's why. She deserves everything she wants. Meaning if she wants her maid of honour in a dress, you will do it."

"Why would I be the maid of honours, you are her best friend." I nodded toward the person we were waiting for.

"If I don't talk to the guy, why would he want me part of his wedding?. Maura loves you, Frost, if she can't have the best, she will have her frosty." I smirked.

Maura's relationship with Frost was a relationship that I loved watching grow. It was a lot different than the one she had with my brothers. She saw my brothers, as well as actual brothers. Frost was a real true friend, who she trusted, whose friendship she made happen. No one ever saw their friendship, but I did.

"Hello, how can I help you two. "

"Sarah I am detective Rizzoli, this is my partner Detective Frost. Can we ask you a few questions about the disappearance of Jenna Barkey?"

"Of course, please come in." We walked into the room, I noticed all of Jenna's belongings were gone. Her parents were allowed to come to pick up the rest of her stuff, crime lab took most of her belongings.

"Sarah when was the last time you saw Jenna?"

" The weekend before her parents showed up looking for her, that Saturday. Told me she was heading to Alyssas for the night."

"For the night, so why didn't you say anything when she never returned?"

"She was an adult detective, I wasn't her keeper. Besides we barely even talked, she wasn't much of a talker."

"Have you ever met Alyssa?" Frost asked, taking notes as I asked questions.

"A few times. She would come here to pull Jenna out of here once in a while, the girl could just sit here all night writing in that journal of hers."

"Did anyone else ever come here to see her, or did she mention anyone?"

"I have been her roommate for two years now, and the only person that ever came to see her was Alyssa." Frost stopped me before I could ask another question.

"Two years with the same roommate, that doesn't happen a lot. Usually, by the second year, you want your own space."

"We got along great, so I asked if we could be roommates again. It's hard to find that random person that you can live with, and be able to juggle studies. Either you get smokers, tokers, or drinkers. I got the one person who didn't do any of those."

"That does sound like a good situation," I said, taking one more look around. I noticed a picture of Sarah beside others wearing what looked like bunker gear. I held it up to frost, turning it towards Sarah.

"My boyfriend is a firefighter, we were doing a fundraiser that day."

"Has your boyfriend ever been here, met Jenna?"

"Of course, but he would never hurt anyone. He wants to save people, not torture them by watching them burn. Isn't that how the other murders from last year happen, some psycho was burning bodies in the back alleys."

"We cannot comment on past cases, but thank you for your time. We will contact you if we have anything else okay?" I handed her my card, following Frost out into the hallway.

"Did we release that detail Frost?"

"Only to the parents, I will get a hold of Korsak. I think we finally got a break in this case."

"Don't be too quick, her boyfriend is a firefighter. He might have been one of them who was on scene those days. I do think that she has something to do with all of this, but first, let's do some digging. Taking my phone out as I feel it vibrating, a message from Maura popping up.

Please come find me when you are free, we need to talk. It's personal, not work-related.
